I am 38 weeks 4 days with my 7th pregnancy. I had 4 girls, who all went at least a week over and then 2 boys. My first boy was induced at 38 weeks due to my BP. Second boy was born on his own at 39 weeks.

Which brings me to this pregnancy! My midwife is really pushing for an inductions because I am measuring really big. The little one was estimated to be 8 pounds at an ultrasound 3 weeks ago! My largest baby was my third at 9'3" with no problems what so ever.

My induction with my first son was a NIGHTMARE. He was NOT ready...and still has some lung "issues" to this day. I had 30+ hours of labor!

Basically, my cervix is "softening" but not doing much else.

What can I do? My wf gave me the whole speel about shoulder dsyplasia, etc.

I am not usually one to freak out, but I am finding myself really afraid.:(

I bought some evening primrose and some red raspberry tea. Anything else I can do? Helpful websites?

Thanks

The little one was estimated to be 8 pounds at an ultrasound 3 weeks ago!

Keep in mind that late term u/s's are REALLY inaccurate!!!! I have a friend whose baby was measuring 42 weeks at 37 weeks, and they induced, which ended in C-section. :irked: The baby turned out to be 6 lbs 8 oz - hardly the size of a 42 weeker. The u/s was just way off! They can be off by +/- 5 lbs at this stage in pregnancy, so I absolutely would not rely on a 35 week u/s saying the baby was already 8 lbs.

But even if it was... it sounds like you are perfectly capable of birthing "large" babies! As long as you don't have GD, your body shouldn't grow a baby bigger than what you are capable of birthing. Sounds like you have a MEDwife, and I'd be a bit scared at having her attend my birth. I wouldn't be scared of your ability to birth your baby though - you can do it. And she can't force you into induction either. As long as you and baby are healthy, keep that baby cooking until it's ready to come out on its own!

Thanks so much....that is EXACTLY what I needed to hear.

And you are right. She is a MEDwife. I have never heard them called that before.

Speaking of US being totally unreliable when it comes to estimating size... my sister just gave birth to her first babe a week ago. She was 42 weeks on the nose... supposedly. Her OB was freaking out about induction at 40 weeks saying that her babe was estimating to be about 7 1/2 to 8 lbs. Well, let's just say her little peanut was born 2 weeks late at a whopping 5 lbs 15 oz :eek Hmmm. Oh and I guess I should add that the only reason she came at 42 weeks is because she was facing an induction the next day and she decided to take the homeopathic forms of Black and Blue Cohosh ( NOT the tinctures). Her cervix was favorable so her body agreed to labor. We really think the baby needed to cook a little longer though.

I wouldn't be concerned about size, it seems like you have some uh, experience in the birthing department.
