I live in Hod Hasharon, which is right next to Petah Tikvah. It's a great place to live (well except for the security issues.)

Hey! Well dh is stuck in Istanbul right now. They just opened the airports, but there are 400 Israelis in the istanbul airport fighting over 250 spots on tonights flight. So we're not very happt right now. other than that ds is in a private Gan and dd is home with me. So we're okay. Everything else is dealable. But did tje country really need this strike????
Where up North are you??

Hi, I made aliyah 12 years ago from NJ; DH is from a dati kibbutz in the Negev. My dd 9 has been enjoying the strike and was too tired to go to school today! (Her sleepover was cut off prematurely:angry ) My 7ds 7 is in special ed so he had 1/2 days this week. My dd 2 metapelet follows school schedule so she's been home with me but she's sick anyway. I am down to my last shekel, but I can wait until Sun. to go to the bank. And next week is a 1/2 work week as well! Oh wll, at least the weather is nice--the zoo was very crowded yesterday.
Shabbat Shalom!

I am in Tzfat, Dahlia. :) and we LOVE it here.
Did your Dh make it home??
I am so confused about the strike, it was over, right? Now there was no bank machine today... but our phone got cut off for outgoing, in the midst of pesach, then the strike, it never got payed... but he paid it today, so I guess there was a post office.
My kids are in private school with private hasaah...
I just got the first part of a root canal. I have a major phobia of the dentist. I also hate having to speak hebrew when under stress.... My mouth HURTS now. :(
So how long has everyone been here? How well do you speak hebrew?
What do you miss most from the states?
I have been here on and off (mostly here) since I was 17, thats 10 years. I speak passable hebrew, not very impressive. I miss my family, and lots of [junk] food.

I'm currently in the US (well -we've been here for the past 4 years), but I lived in Israel for 9 years and dh for 13. I'm still trying to come to terms with being an American again.

I've been here for 12 years. I met my dh while on junior year abroad from college, and we got married 3 years later (after a lot of ff miles and long distance phone calls). I didn't make aliyah only because of him, but it helped push the process.
We were on shlichut from 1998-2000, and I came back pregnant with dd3.
My spoken Hebrew is fine (as long as I am speaking about familiar topics), but my reading and writing is atrocious. It is holding me back careerwise. I came here with no Hebrew, and I'm not a language type. Also, my DH's perfect English doesn't give me an incentive to improve.
I miss "healthy junk food" like Veggie Booty, organic cereal, organic french fries, Stonyfield yogurt, etc. I feel like my food options have been cut in 1/3 from America (well, we were in Teaneck on shlichut, so it wasn't normative treif America). Israel is so far behind, health-conscious wise. I also miss reasonably priced English books and thrift shops!
This summer will be the first time since I've made aliyah that we are not going back for a visit. The kids and I are so bummed:( but it is just too expensive and too difficult.

I've been here for 7 years. My Mom is Israeli so I grew up speaking hebrew, and I went to Solomon Schecter for grade school and Yeshiva for high school so my hebrew is very good ( my accent is pretty good as well). I moved here because I love it here and always felt like I fit in more here. Alot of my friends in the US are children of Israelis so we all grew up in this Israeli -American atmosphere. I met dh here after I had already been here for a year.
I miss the shopping most of all. You get so much more for your money in the States. I always come back with an extra suitcase full of clothes and stuff. There is so much more selection in the States. I also miss my family, but my I see my Mom about every 3 months so it's not too bad. But other than that I love it here (strikes and all). Although the Piguim can really get to you after a while. I try to focus on the kids and our daily lives, which is great!!!!
I just recently came back from the US and I was so happy to come home. Summer has begun and everyone is outside. It's great!!!
Anyway Chag Sameach to everyone. Enjoy your Yom Haatzmaut!! (I love Yom Haatzmaut, but you always have to get thru Yom Hazikaron the day before, and I usually spend part of that watching the sad shorts about the young soldiers who have died, and cry my eyes out. It got worse after I had my son. For some reason I need to watch it and cry. What a sad reality we live in:( )

I know of one, a friend of a friend. She is originally Australian. When I met her at a Shabbat lunch, I was very curious about the diapers and she told me she orders them, since she hasn't found a place to buy them here. I must say, my dh and the other dad weren't so supportive ("oh, I'm sure that you won't last long with those" type comments) and I let it pass when I should have told them off.
I personally never CD (and now my third and last is toilet trained except for night) because it never occured to me (books like "What to expect" told me it wasn't any better than disp) and it would have freaked out my DH. I pay lip service to the environment, but truth be told, I love paper towels and long showers.
I know Mom2Five uses CD, but I don't know if she did when she lived in Israel.

Thank you Amy. My son goes to school on French Hill, so this one felt "close". I think that if we all fully "felt" the agony of each pigua, life would be unbearable. Denial is key.
Just found something to keep up our spirits: http://www.newsoftheday.com/israel/
