Hi

I'm new here :) . My intrest in pregnancy and childbirth goes waaay back but I trained as a Doula in 2004 in the UK and then had my son in 2005 (now living in Cape Town).

I have close friend in JHB who is having her second child and is interested in an HBAC (Home Birth After C-section) but has not been able to find any midwives in her area who are willing to assist her.

I'm also interested in an HBAC if I decide to have another child but with the midwives I've spoken to here they are all anti-HBAC. In the UK I know it is quite a common thing and in the US it also appears to be. Why is SA so conservative? :irked:

If anyone knows of any midwives who would be willing do assist with an HBAC then please let me know! :help

regards,
Sarah

Hello Sarah,

If you look at the earthbabies.co.za site there is a lot of info there and a forum as well. Most of the gals on there are up JHB / Pretoria way and I am sure that they will know of a good midwife.

Are m/w in SA allowed to do HBAC? I know my m/w said she was not allowed to do any births that weren't straightforward like breech etc.
