Wow, I've hardly ever been so early into a thread before! Hope I can remember all the things I am supposed to say about myself...Okay, here goes :

I'm Mia (but please, don't call me "Mama Mia"--years of that has made me hate that nickname), mother to two wonderful redheaded girls, and wife to Mark, my excellent dh who cooks (need I say more?). I'm a writer/public relations flak at a large telecommunications company (no names mentioned). The job is okay for now, and I've gotten a lot out of it, but after nearly seven years in telecom I'm looking for something different. DH is an architect with his own firm, so I carry the benefits for us and make sure that the mortgage is paid on time.

For fun I sing (hence my screen name) and am very active in my Quaker meeting.

I could talk about my kids all day and all night, and it would sound like how everyone talks about their kids. So I'll spare you (for now...).

You mean I'm supposed to have only one favorite flavor of ice cream?

Glad this board is here!

Peace,

Benjismom

Ooh, I can't believe I am first since I'm online so infrequently these days!

Who are you? Beth, a work at and outside the home mom in New York City

What do you do for a living? I am a lawyer/consultant to pension funds on active ownership, which means exercising their power as shareholders to change corporate behavior. I work primarily for union and public employee pension plans. I also consult to a company that does research and analysis on corporate governance (boards of directors, CEO pay, and the like).

What do you do for fun? Read, play cards, ski, hang out with my sister, knit, run

Tell us about your SO if applicable. My wonderful DH Nick works in HR information systems (yes he's a tech geek) and is a fantastic dad and all-around great guy.

Tell us about your kiddos. My DS Benji is almost three; he's an exuberant, funny boy who sings constantly. My new DD, Maggie, was born prematurely six weeks ago (her due date was Monday). We don't know her well yet but she appears to be a real fighter. She's home now and doing great.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat". My current favorite ice cream is Ben and Jerry's "Brownie Batter."

Can we see you? IE post a website addy if you have it. I am too technologically deficient to accomplish this. Plus I hate all pictures of myself.

Who are you? I am a 28 year old teacher mama, currently teaching 2nd grade at a public school. I have been teaching for 6 years with only a 4 month leave of bsence when my son was born.
For fun I read, exercise at the gym and outdoors, go to the park with my son, who is 2.5 years old. Four days a week, he attends a home child care (the same one since he was 5 months old) and receives excellent care from the 2 women who watch him. My husband does not work on Firdays, so that is the boys' day together. They do a swimming lesson in the morning and take a field trip (zoo, museum, etc.) in the afternoons. Glad to see this forum at last!

As a once and future WOHM (I just quit my job a couple of weeks ago, will have to go back to work later this year) can I join too? Please please please?

I'm Jane, 34, and my career to date has been as an environmental attorney specializing in wildlife conservation. I just left a job that I loved as marine wildlife program counsel for The Ocean Conservancy to stay home with my ds for a while longer. For fun I read, hang out here at MDC, cook yummy vegetarian meals, and scuba dive when I can. DH Mark is 35, an engineer and computer geek. DS Evan is 7 months old yesterday! and is desperately trying to crawl. You can see all of us, even though I too hate all pictures of me, in our website in my signature line!

Who are you?

I'm Jesse! I'm 27 (Birthday in April).

What do you do for a living?

I teach Drama to high school students and run the Drama Department--ie I direct several shows a year. I teach six classes of drama a day (!): three beginning, one advanced and one special ed. I'm currently on maternity leave until May 5.

What do you do for fun?

I love to cook and travel (not at the same time!). I also like to write, read and play with my babes. I'm beginning to get addicted to ebay, too. My biggest stress-relief is the internet.

Tell us about your SO if applicable

My dh is Mike. He's an actor and carpenter for a local theatre. We met in college whilst studying theatre. We've been married almost four years and have been together for six. Been friends for eight years. :)

Tell us about your kiddos.

Two dd's: Violet and Zoe. Violet is 2.8 years old. Zoe is my newbie--she is four weeks old. Both girls were born at home, breastfed and we co-sleep. (Well, Violet has her own bed now)

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat"
Coffee Heath Toffee Crunch Ben and Jerry's.

Oh Yay!

I'm Leah, I'm a school psychologist. Currently I work 80%, which means I work Mon-Thurs, Sept-June (157.6 days yearly, to be exact  ). I'm sitting for the licensing exam next weekend, and if I pass, then I'll start looking into starting my own practice as well....

For fun I play with my kiddos, browse WAHM diaper stores, read read read, spend inordinate amounts of evening time here, belong to a book club, and during the summers (when I'm home full-time), I join a playgroup.

DH is currently an 8th grade science teacher working on his M.A. and credential in school counseling. He just began this journey about a year and half ago, when dd was diagnosed with kidney reflux and we realized that his company had absolutely no sympathy or compassion for his family and need to be with his kids. At that point he worked 6 days/week and dd had very little idea about who he was. We are far less affluent now in money, but very much happier than we were before.

Liam is 3.5 and Emma is not quite 2, but less than a month away. They are both firecrackers--assertive, opinionated, talkative and highly active. I guess with two rebels for parents, what else could we have expected, right? They are the loves of my life, even when they are making me insane. They are cared for by a nanny whom we stole from their previous daycare center. It's working out fairly well, although it certainly has its disadvantages as well.

I love mint chocolate chip ice cream best these days and I love to make sugar cookies with the kids because they get to decorate them and that's a lot of fun.

Cool, hi y'all!

Who are you?

I'm Sadie, I'm a 32 year old anarchist from Vermont, currently living in San Francisco.

What do you do for a living?

I'm a legal assistant/paralegal for a solo practitioner lawyer. he's pretty laid ack and very pro-kid. also it's good situation because i have essentially been learning the job on the job, so I'm (finally) sort of getting into a line of work that is worth continuing in (holy moly, do i have a career????)

What do you do for fun?

I'm a big Sci-fi reader. I especially love science fiction that presents visions of how the world could be a better place. I love to cook, though I don't get much chance these days, and i am also usually pretty active in organizing and politics. usually with an anti-racist, anti-poverty edge, currently (of course) anti=-war. I'm kind of on maternity leave from the group I usually work with though.

Tell us about your SO if applicable

My partner is a super gentle, super kind, super feminist guy. He's also a total freak, an amazing artist, and an art teacher at an "under achieving" public high school. And a completely committed father.

Tell us about your kiddos.

Natasha! wow, she's just the most amazing thing to ever happen to me! she's 4 months old, 17 pounds (yikes!) and a super happy, easy going baby. if I'd known it was going to be this great, i might have hd a kid sooner!

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat"

Currently I'm really into vegan chocolate pudding.

My dh is MIchael. He worked with computers for over 12 years before we got tired of all the downsizing. Four jobs in three years with decreasing salaries each time eventually takes a toll. He has gone back to school and by next December will be certified to teach Math and Science at the Secondary level.

Tell us about your kiddos.

The beautiful Samuel Austin, Age 3 as of 2/28. He is a very spirited little guy who favorite things are Play Doh, Star Wars Legos, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Hot Wheels. In his spare time he fights monsters.

Hey - I'm a 33 year old research professor, specializing in health law, at a law school here in Houston. The job allows me to work a substantial amount of time at home, so I've been able to spend far more time with my daughter while working than would've been possible had I returned to private law practice following her birth, so in that respect (as well as many others), it is fabulous.

For fun - well, other than the time I spend with dd (usually going to the park, playing outside or taking her to a local stable to pet the horses, about which she's crazy even at her early age), I run and cook. I also try to read as much as possible (nowhere near what I used to read, prior to dd's birth!).

Dh is a 41 year old pediatric urologist who absolutely loves his work and is totally committed to it (leaving him with very little time at home, except for the weekends).

My wonderful, fabulous daughter is 22 months old, intensely curious, and exuberant. She's the light of my life!

We all seem to love B&J's! Coffee heath bar crunch and Phish Food are two of my faves.

We are in the process of opening a cafe where DH will be wearing dd while running the business (plus they will be right across the street from my work - yippie - I can see dd at lunch) He is a good daddy and an even wonderful DH (now if I can just get him to do more housework)

Tell us about your kiddos.
DD is a little over 8 mos. She is an absolute doll. She loves to crawl, play in her jumping johnny, pull herself into a standing position and swipe whatever is on the coffee table and eat people food. She makes me want to have have 20 more children:)

I am Catherine, age 35. I am an ob/gyn at a university hospital in Philly. I actually am the medical director of the clinic, where we see the medically underserved. We have great ancilllary staff, who provide case management, social work, nutrition, family planning counseling, etc. I also work 80% time, and look forward to reducing that even further, jsut to be home with my DSs.
for fun, I enjoy reading and eating out, neither of which I get to do often. My DH is an ENT physician, specializing in head and neck cancer; he spends most of his time doing research in cancer vaccines. He too loves his work and hence is not home as much as I would like. My DSs are magical, they just turned two, and are typically blessed two year olds (God help me, where is all the patience I thought I had!!!). Josh's favorite thing to say these days is "What's going on?!" and Sean's is "What does a rhino say? I dunno!". they love going to the library and finger painting, and, for Sean, anything that involves jumping. My favorite treat is icecream, preferably two scoops--coffee and mint chocolate chip, with hot fudge on top.

Who are you? Monica, age 33

What do you do for a living? I'm an attorney with Legal Aid. I represent poor people in civil matters, primarily disaster-related consumer and ownership issues, social security disability and domestic violence.

What do you do for fun? Before dd was born I loved to read novels, hike, sea kayak, ski. I haven't done much of any of those since she was born but plan to begin at least hiking and sea kayaking again this spring! Since my third trimester, reading has pretty much caused me to fall asleep (currently I'm trying to get through "The No Cry Sleep Solution" and DH suggests we give it to Hannah to read bc it keeps working on me). My new favorite activities are playing with dd and going on long walks with dd.

Tell us about your SO if applicable. DH is also 33 and is currently a SAHD, working PT on weekends. He owned his own business until dd was born and has plans to start that again in the future.

Tell us about your kiddos. We have one child, Hannah, who will be 8 months in a few days.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat." I guess my favorites are Ben&Jerry's Chunky Monkey and Phish Food.

:p HI! I'm so excited that we have our own forum! Not to be exclusive or anything, but I sometimes feel like a just need to "talk" to other mothers who are going through the same stuff. It's hard to WOH and be a parent. Anway, Hello!

My name is Libby and I'm an attorney. I am currently clerking for a judge and I work about 30-35 hours a week. I have a 14 month dd (the love of my life). I bf, make homemade food for her, and we are switching to cd. I carry her in a sling whenever she'll let me and we are working on our sign language. I love going to play groups with her and hanging out with dh and dd at home.

Lately, I have been having a really hard time dealing with work and home. I had to go back to work when dd was 11 weeks old. It was really tough. Now, almost a year later, I feel that I have totally slacked off at work. I come in late, leave early, and take every imaginable day off that I can! Needless to say, the stress is getting to me. DH and I are trying to figure out right now whether I would be able to work part time. I'm definitely at a cross roads. Whereas I worked so hard to go to school and I am in a field that I really like, I also feel like I want to be at home more. I don't want to have to pay a babysitter/nanny to stay with my baby when I want to be there! :crying KWIM? I'm sure you all do. Anyway, it's nice to have a place to go to and vent, talk, and chat about our families. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and talking to you soon!!:thumb

Tell us about your SO if applicable. My dh is 29, a graphic designer/web programer/multi-media programmer/comic book artist. wow, this forum is great!

I'm Lauren, in Vermont, 39. I am a clinical social worker and I work at a rural mental health center, serving children and families. I get to focus specifically on early childhood, preschools, and children with attachment disorders. My job is half time, but it leaks into my home time all the time, because I do supervision and folks have questions in between!

My spouse works at the same place, but with adolescent programs. He's a blast!

Our kids are a son, almost 8 and a daughter almost 5. DS is quite spirited, daughter more mellow.

We love outdoors stuff--hiking, caving, gardening, X-C skiing. This winter has been too cold to do anything. Reading is a passion. Karate for ds, ballet for dd.

favorite ice cream-- Cherry Garcia.

I don't do photos on the web..... too many horror stories I've heard about how they are misused.

Nice to meet y'all.

Hello! I'm Brittany, age 32, born in July.

I'm a journalist. I have the benefits of WAH in that I don't have a boss. On the other hand, I am at the mercy of numerous editors at any given moment. I'm a member of a freelance group, so I have an office with other other writers and photographers, and most often I work from there.

What do you do for fun?
Well, I've always got a book going, and I am truly a news junkie. Love to travel, and can't wait to move back to the US (May 8th!!) so that I can get politically active again.

Dh just turned 33, he's a music school grad turned graphic artist turned computer consultant, and for the last three years he's been coordinating an EU tech project. (And I'm crazy about him!) We're strong believers in shared parenting/shared work, and I feel great about having created a family-centered, two-career household.

Tell us about your kiddos.
We have three great boys, 10, 6, and 4, and I'm ten weeks pregnant.

As for treats, I love, love, love chocolate, but haven't wanted it, or any other sweets while I've been pregnant! It's funny, I still *long* for chocolate, but I'm never actually in the mood!

I never worked out of the home when we lived in the US, so I'm going to be facing some new challenges. I'm glad to have this board and the benefit of all of your experience.

What do you do for a living?I'm a social worker for Head Start
What do you do for fun?I like to scrapbook and spend time outdoors with my kiddos
Tell us about your SO if applicableMy DH is Patrick. He's a CNA and he is in nursing school, too.
Tell us about your kiddos.Anna Esther is 2. She is very spirited and lots of fun. She loves shopping and going to Starbucks with me, my mom and sisters every Saturday. She loves to dance and listen to music. She also loves "Thomas the Tank Engine"! My son Thomas is just about 8 months. He is quite the charmer. He had a stroke before birth and wasn't supposed to live, so we feel very blessed! So far, he is mildly developmentally delayed but doing better than anyone ever imagined. He loves being in the sling and is particularly fond of flirting with women everywhere we go!

I know we've been waiting for this board, and now here it is. I've been crazy busy with work for the last three weeks, so I've got a lot of posts to plow through!

Anyway, who am I? Dinah, and I'm 38.

What do I do? I am a Process Improvement Specialist. Right now, I am leading an effort to design and implement a Career Development Process. It's pretty fun, but my heart is with writing.

For fun? As it is right now, precious little. I am still struggling with the family-work balance and at the moment I'm having a tough time just getting my day-to-day operation accomplished. When I pine for fun things, reading, gardening, telemark skiing, and dancing come to mind. I do have fun with my DS, and we dance and laugh together a lot.

I have a DH, who is 42 and a carpenter. He shares much of the parenting of DS and that has made a huge difference in our life together.

We have Owen, our DS, who is almost 15-months. He's a brilliant, active, happy redhead (just like his mother  ) and is the light of my life. I won't say that I wish I were a SAHM on most days, but when 4:30 rolls around, I have tunnelvision back to him.

Ice Cream? Pretty much any kind, but mint chocolate chip is high on the list.

I spend so much of my life on the computer that I have no energy to incorporate it into my home life....so no cyber-pictures available. Picture red curly hair, green eyes, and two huge letdown spots on my professional work blouse! :)

I'm going to catch up on posts now! I love being here!

Here it goes

Who are you? I'm mama to one 6 mos toe-head (don't know where she gets it) DD, wife to college sweet heart, and mama to two dogs, a cat and some fish.

What do you do for a living? Attorney

What do you do for fun? Fun? Ok, seriously. I run, I do yoga. I LOVE to read. Tried to learn to knit (noticed some of you do that) but gave it up. Will maybe try to crochet? Have heard that's easier. I'm wiccan - any other Pagan WOHs out there?

Tell us about your SO if applicable. Too cute for words. He does nearly all the housework and cooking now. And he has finally come to grips with the fact that chemlawn is evil.

Tell us about your kiddos. She's the absolute funniest thing. She can't get enough of Dr. Seuss. She loves her sling and her bjorn. She's recently just learned she can put her feet in her mouth. She makes up faces and noises which she proceeds to teach the other kids at the DC to do (yes, I have "that child" that teaches all other kids in her class to do horrible things)

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat" I've given up ice cream as I am lactose intolerant and was told by someone along the line that if I take lactaid when I eat dairy it will also kill the lactose in my milk. Truly I don't know if I believe that, but hey, do I really need any ice cream on my post pregnancy thighs right now?

Who are you? Hi! Thanks for the thread - this is great. I'm Julie, 38 and mother of two beautiful dds

What do you do for a living? I am an Adminstrative Assistant for a financial info company. Been going thru a lot of changes and lay offs lately. Luckily (or unluckily depending how you look at it) I've escaped the chopping block thus far. Our group is one of the few making money. Not too thrilled with the job itself but hours, benefits, $, and group very nice for being a working mama. And, like others here, I've been slacking off some lately.

What do you do for fun? Get together with friends and family. Love to read. Not much time for crafts but when I have it I knit, crochet, quilt, and cross stitch. Oh, and pictures, I love to take them and develop them but can't seem to get them organized in albums...

Tell us about your SO if applicable My dh is 34 and a senior lab technician. He is great with our dds and I love him to pieces. He picks up the girls and starts supper until I get home. He is very active in sporting things and is training for his first marathon!

Tell us about your kiddos. Katie is 3 1/2 and so much fun. In preschool and learning something new every day. Abby is 1 1/2 and going through the vocabulary surge.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat" Ice cream is my favorite treat - love chocolate peanut butter and mint chocolate chip.

Can we see you? IE post a website addy if you have it. Sorry, not that techy yet :D

Hi! I'm new, so I thought I'd take advantage of this thread to introduce myself!

Who am I?

I'm Carrie, a 27 yo pagan mommy who lives in the Houston area.

What do I do for a living?

I teach chemistry to high school students -- or try to, anyway.

What to I do for fun?

I write, read, take photographs, and spend time with my son and hubby. I used to do calligraphy -- serious, time-consuming study -- but that has fallen by the wayside since the babe. Maybe one day I'll pick it up again.

Tell us about your SO.

I'm married to a 28 yo dreamboat who has a MS in biochemistry that he doesn't use. He works for a big company now. He's a great guy and a great dad.

Tell us about your kiddos.

I have one almost five month old perfect child. There isn't much to tell about him other than that he's perfect. :)

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Either Blue Bell Lemon or Blue Bell Peppermint. I can't decide.

Can we see you?

My hubby maintains an ugly website; if I did it; it'd be prettier. ;) Lots of pics of Nate, but one of all of us:

Here (http://home.earthlink.net/~sww97/nate.html)

I'm Leah. I'm 31 (and I actaully had to think for a minute to remember, I still think I'm 28! )
I currently share a teaching contract with another teacher and work 40%, which is 2 days per week. From a financial standpoint, it was the stupidist thing we could have done, and it may take years to recover, but I get to be with ds 5 days in a row, so I'd don't give a rats a$$:D . I will have to go up to 60% next year and I'm trying not to think of it! I do love teaching, though, so that's a bright spot. I have always taught k-1 spanish bilingual classes. This is my 10th year teaching.
Ds is 2 and 3 months and is just amazing. He was completely potty trained by his 2nd birthday, but has just now begun to talk. It's intensely fun! His new word today is "iron".
For fun, I read, read, read, do yoga, and am currently taking a quilting class to make a funky quilt for ds. I used to bike a lot (both mountain and road), but haven't so much lately as I'd rather be spending time with ds.
Ice cream? Pretty much any ben and jerry's , but I have a bit of trouble with lactose so I try to stick to Soy Dream and my fav is vanilla. But with me at 40%, we don't get it very often!
My dh is a very fun, inspired and sensitive Daddy who has always had a bit of trouble earning a steady income. That part of him was never attractive and it's just creating intense stress this week, so it's hard for me to think of what to say about him. Maybe later?

Leah--I will have to e-mail you sometime. I am dreaming of cutting down to 50%--by 2004....but it scares the heck out of dh. As we are both teachers--he just doesn't know how we can do it. I'd like to find out your perspective on things. Sorry to hear that it isn't working out like you hoped.

Amanda, wife to Tim for (almost) 5 years, mother to 9 month old Madeleine.

What do you do for a living?
I'm a clinical scientist. I manage international HIV clinical trials.

What do you do for fun?
I like to jog and I LOVE to read. Reading is my passion.

Tell us about your SO if applicable
My DH is currently a SAHD. He was laid off right before our dd was born. Honestly, I think this has worked out for the best. He was born to be a dad and loves every minute with her.

Tell us about your kiddos.
Madeleine will be 9 months on April 5. We've been breastfeeding despite a rocky start and some supply problems. She's into everything now that she's crawling. She recently started pulling up and cruising along the couch. She's a really happy baby, rarely ever cries, and is still co-sleeping part of the night. For the first part of the night we put her in her crib (in our room) and when she wakes to nurse at 1 or 2 I bring her to bed with us.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat"
I'm not a huge ice cream fan, but I LOVE Godiva chocolate. LOL!

Mama to Violet and Zoe

Okay, I'm late. Let's see:
I'm Tracy and I've been director of a medical transcription company in Knoxville, TN for about 7 months. Before that, I was one of the at-home/in-house employees. (meaning, I did both at different times)

For fun by myself, I either sneak out to a bookstore and browse, or go to the used paperback store and buy a huge stack of regency romances and consume as many as possible in a weekend. Ahhh! LOL. For fun with the family, we usually go to the park and walk while the boys ride their bikes. We just got a good deal on an old RV and hope to camp this summer.

My SO is my DH. We've been married 15 yrs as of this month. He's a peach of a guy, a real handyman, and my true soulmate.

I have two boys, 6 and 3, who are my darlings. I always wanted a girl, but now can't remember why. :p Seriously, though, DH and I have talked about perhaps adopting a girl, maybe a China orphan. I haven't looked into it at all yet as we are not really in a position to do that at this point. But we would like to have a girl child but not another pregnancy, so we've talked about that as an option and maybe a way to help someone.

My real weakness is not ice cream, but Raspberry Zingers. (I know, I know, they're evil Twinkies in disguise!!) Can't help it.

No web site at this point! Guess I've gotta be banonymous!

Hi mamas!

I've posted a couple of times in this forum, but here is my intro:

Who are you?

I'm Cate, 33, living in Northampton Mass. We're a two-mom, two-baby family. I'm also an earthy type, spirituality-wise, though we go to the UU society locally for community and connection.

What do you do for a living?

I work at a women's college doing institutional research, which is basically studying the college itself. Right now I'm working on a 3-year grant to study the college's decision to make SATs optional for admission. Interesting stuff. It's part-time, 20 hours per week. I do 4 5-hour days so that the kids don't have a full 8 hours in daycare, which made for rushed days. I am missing my second day off, though--it just doesn't feel like as much time with them when it's just the afternoons. I know, I am very lucky to only work part-time. It's a great job too with benefits and a very flexible boss. There are days, though, when I just want to stay home with them.

What do you do for fun?

I used to know. :) I'm not sure anymore. Having infant twins does not make for much recreation. I do like to knit, though I have made all of one sock since the kids were born. I also like to make diapers, though I rarely have time. Cooking, ditto (it's all about the crockpot these days). I also was a skier and biker though that's a while ago, and I love to play cards and board games.

Tell us about your SO if applicable

My partner is my co-mom, and she's a 36-year-old tax accountant who develops software for a big 5 firm. We met in college and celebrated our 11th anniversary last month.

Tell us about your kiddos.

Henry and Eleanor are the best thing that's ever happened to me. They turned one last week, and I can't believe the first year is over! Henry is one hour older. He's a real charmer, loves to smile and flirt. He has this deep belly laugh. At daycare teachers come from other rooms to see if they can get Henry to laugh. Eleanor is a wild baby. She is completely self-possessed. She loves music and bouncing and movement of all kinds. She will sit on your lap and bounce and giggle for ages without getting bored. She is sometimes operatic in her expressions--she will reach out her hand very dramatically and make big speeches--of course they're all the word "maymaymaymaymaymaymay" but it's clear that *she* knows what she means! ;)

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat"

I have been on a cookie dough binge for a while now. My best way to explain EN is that I tell people that I eat cookie dough every night and I'm losing weight, and therefore I plan to nurse them until they're 14 or so. :P

Who are you? "Ione"... 34, 1st time mom since 1 Jan 2003... American but (permanently?) living in Paris (DH is French), eh... I hate this question 'cause I really have no idea what to say. I'm just me.

What do you do for a living? I'm an in-house translator (French to English) for an NGO that works with developing countries.

What do you do for fun? Read, knit, movies, play with DH&DD, go out to dinner, visit & hang out with friends, translate documents (sad, but true, I love my work).

Tell us about your SO if applicable French, a real peach, journalist (proofreader/editor), a great father already (if still terrified by the whole thing)

Tell us about your kiddos. One DD born on Jan 1. Ever so cute, chubby so far, sunny & happy most of the time, already showing signs of "do it herself-itis" (didn't ever want help finding her thumb, would fuss when she couldn't find it and fuss more if we tried to help). Want more kids... the only question is when.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat" Macadamia Nut Brittle... other "treats" include anything with milk chocolate, hot oatmeal with brown sugar & butter (yumm!! does that make me wierd?), foie gras... umm... lots of stuff, I love to eat!

Who are you? Kathleen, 32 (almost 33). I'm a first time mom to my dd (5 months old). I love being a mommy, I had no idea, if I had, I may have started having babies a lot earlier.

What do you do for a living? I work as a clinical psychologist with mostly children and adolescents.

What do you do for fun? Anything outdoors, hiking, camping, biking, running, roller blading, etc. I also really like to read.

Tell us about your SO if applicable: My dh is a computer "geek," but very happy and good at what he does. He's a great daddy, if a little rambunctious at times.

Tell us about your kiddos. One DD born on Oct 30. She is the most amazing thing in the world. She has the greatest laugh and smiles all the time. She loves the dog and gleefully gives him grins and chuckles whenever he passes by.

So, a proper introduction.

I'm Piglet68, moderator and mama to Emily Jasna (pronounced "Yass-na") and another little one on the way. I'm from Vancouver, Canada and in the past 3 years have lived in Cleveland, Boston, Cambridge (MA), Vancouver again, and now back in Cleveland!

I'm a research scientist. My official title right now is "post-doctoral scholar" since I'm only here on a short-term contract. I was a SAHM until DD was 15 mos then started working this past November. I'll be finishing up this project before the baby is born and taking another year or so with this baby. I do research in the field of cardiac electrophysiology.

My DH is an electrical engineer by training, used to work in the telecom industry making the big bucks. The industry has since gone down the drain and, seeing the light (and already hating his job) he became a self-taught investment trader a couple of years ago. He's a genius with math, algorithms, etc. and he's been doing an admirable job so far!

My interests are a deep passion for horses, which is on hold while I have babies...very much look forward to getting back into riding, training, schooling, and competing in the sport of Dressage.

What do you do for a living? I'm a post-doc in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Michigan. I define "post-doc" as "a professional holding pattern." I'm looking for a permanent professorship right now. Things ain't lookin' good. My field of study is called mineral physics. I recreate the pressures and temperatures of the Earth's interior and study how material behave under those conditions. (In case you're wondering, the pressures are ~3 million times atmospheric pressure and temperatures are ~6000 K, which is the temperature of the surface of the sun)

What do you do for fun? Play soccer or volleyball, cook or bake, garden, have friends over for bbqs. In a former life I played the piano, but we don't have one right now.

Jeni,

Wow, your sling look great! Your prices are so downright reasonable that had I found your site earlier, I would have bought one of yours instead of making my own! I hope you manage to do good buisiness.

Your page is bookmarked for future baby presents...

Thanks! I've been doing very well with it. It is a very new business, but already I have a good reputation built. I love making the slings, it is the best job I have ever had. The design of my sling is very unique. I've only seen one other WAHM that has a similar design...the adjustable pouch. I tried making every kind of sling, a pouch, a Maya wrap style, this one was the best thing since bread and butter!

Sorry to brag myself up! I am just very excited about it :)

Pretty new here so this thread is great!

My name is Cheryl and I'm 28.

I have been in the U.S. Navy for 8 years. I just finished 4 years of sea time last year and am FINALLY on shore duty. I have 2 years left in. I am working on becoming certified as a massage therapist/naturopath and eventually a doula.
I spend just about all of my time off making up for lost time with my 6yo DD and being a human pacifier for my 6mo teething DS. When I can break free (no pun intended), we hike, go to the beach, and plant things. I am interested in sustainable living and spend a lot of time reading about it and associated topics so that whwen we finally escape the grip of urban San Diego, I will be at least somewhat knowledgeable. Recently, I have been trying to teach myself to sew in order to make my own diapers. Pretty much a neverending quest to live as natural a life as possible on an absurdly tight budget.

DH Chris, 30, and I have been married for 7 yrs, together for 7 yrs and 3 weeks :LOL. Gotta love Vegas! We met in the Navy and within a few days were head over heels. Haven't looked back since. He got out when we were pg w/ DD and has been a SAHD ever since. He is a USMC Reservist and luckily didn't get activated. He plans to join AK state troopers once I am out and let me stay home for a while because he is the most awesome man ever.

DD, Mina Isobel, is 6 and HUGE. Her b-day is in Dec so she is in kindergarten and towers over all the children in her class. She is full of energy, never stops talking, and wants to be an artist. Lately, she has become fond of Star Search and is always asking how to get on. (How do you tell your child she's tone deaf??) I love listening to her offkey singing. Especially when it's the Star Spangled Banner on the toilet. DS , Duren Michael, is 6mos today! It is a totally new experience with him. I knew nothing about pumping w/ DD so only BF for 3 mos. Now I can't imagine stopping. He is a chunky little cuddlebug and I love it. He is way more mellow than DD but i think that is b/c of a more AP approach.
He is a captive audience for DD and will watch her antics all day long and giggle, wiggle, and yell. They are my joy.

My favorite ice cream is Godiva Chocolate Rasberry Truffle but I only crave it when AF is in town, so hopefully that will be a while. For treats lately, I can't get enough cherry licorice.

Hi there, So fun to read all about you. I thought I should join in after checking the boards regularly for a few weeks.

Who are you?
I'm Erin.

What do you do for a living?
I'm a sociology professor. I teach, do research, train graduate students, and help run our department. My research is on gender, work, and family in the U.S. -- so I'm learning about it all from the inside now that I'm a mommy!

Who do you do for fun?
Right now - hold, kiss, play with ds. I used to and hope to soon practice yoga, read (mysteries!), go for walks when it is warm enough, cook and have friends over. We're active in a Unitarian Universalist Church.

Tell us about kiddos:
DS is 8 months old, teething, *about* to crawl (he wants to so badly!), pulling up to stand some. He is a super fun guy, who smiles and laughs a lot and gives me very wet kisses that melt my heart.

Tell us about SO:
DH is in transition... He's a terrific daddy and has been at home PT since DS was born. He's now unemployed and trying to figure out if he wants to continue being an art director for an ad agency, go into political organizing as a job, or be a SAHD who does a lot of political organizing as a volunteer. It is cool to see so many of you have SAH/WAH partners -- makes me think we should talk more about that option.

Favorite ice cream / treat:
Love all ice cream, especially B&J's Cherry Garcia. But I'm off dairy while bf'ing so I've been making do with Girl Scout cookies this week. :)

You can see DS (and occasionally me) at www.davidkrewinghaus.com/graham

Who are you?
I'm Debi.

What do you do for a living?
I work for a major non-profit professional association, heading up their web operations (which are complex and many!).

Who do you do for fun?
I love to play my fiddle and sing old country/bluegrass/old time music. I also read a lot of contemporary literary fiction, and actually enjoy cooking and baking vegetarian and non-dairy food.

Tell us about kiddo:
DD is 22 months and a delight! She's very talkative, curious, sunshiney, and affectionate. Right now, her big interests are coloring, mothering her dolls, and going to the tiny zoo in our nearby park to see their odd collection of animals -- 5 llamas, a cow, a sheep, two goats, and a swan.

Tell us about SO:
My husband is a wonderful husband and father, a true partner in everything. He's gorgeous, sweet, smart, and fun -- I literally have NO complaints!

Favorite ice cream / treat:
I'm allergic to dairy, but I love both Safeway's store brand of chocolate sorbet and Tofutti's Chocolate Cookie Crunch.

I don't have online photos anywhere that isn't password protected, but picture the gerber baby as a toddler, and you've honestly got my little doodlebug!

Wow, it's quite neat seeing all the different things that we do. I'm Alison, and have just gone back to work. My DS Andrew has just turned one--we get a year of paid leave here in Canada, which was wonderful, because I wouldn't have been able to afford to stay home this long other wise (two words--student loans!). I'm a Children's Librarian at our local public library system, and for the most part, I do love my job. For fun I read, knit, hang out with Andrew (he loves outdoors and animals). His dad is a research chemist for a local nutriceutical (sp?) company--can you say fish oils? The cats certainly like the way he smells when he comes home sometimes!

Anyway, it was nice to meet all of you through your introductions.

He is training to be a pharmacy tech, and eventually wants to get into a hospital. He may take another course after this one- he's quite keen on the Nuclear Technician course but I'm trying to talk him out of it politely. The potential side effects of this job frighten me a lot. Of course I want him to be happy in what he does, but I'd also like to have a husband for a while, too. Selfish? Other than that, he is a fantastic father, and we are getting married on July 17th of this year.

Tell us about your kiddos. James is 13 months now, and has just begun walking. His favourite thing to do is to walk around with the phone and 'talk' into it all day long. He is the light of my life. :)

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Or other "treat" I can not tolerate ice cream- the dairy makes me loopy. My favourite treat would have to be Tim Horton's timbits.

Can we see you? IE post a website addy if you have it. Sorry ladies, my site is temporarily down for the moment.

Tell us about your SO if applicable He's Gabe, and there is no one else like him. He's the lab manager of a photography studio. Taking pictures and playing with and in photo chemicals are his true loves, right after me, of course. We've been married for seven years, together for almost nine. :love

Tell us about your kiddos. My son, Maverick is 5. He's spirited, crazy, and hates to sleep. His mind and body move a million miles an hour and he talks, non stop. He's sensitive, loving, and my sweet, sweet boy. My daughter, Charis, is 3.5. She's an angel. She's happy and sweet, and so, so special. She's much more laid back, but very stubborn, and when she makes up her mind to do something, that's it. She loves to sing and laugh and play. She's absolutely fearless, which is crazy to me. They have an amazingly close relationship. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever gotten to witness. I love them, desperately. :D
