Thought I'd start a general thread for us. How is everyone doing? I went to Trader Joe's last night and stocked up on high protein foods. Apparently high protein foods are expensive, LOL. Anyway - I am hoping to avoid the massive morning (all day and night) sickness I've had in the past. My midwife OKed vit. shots so I'll be starting on those tomorrow.

My best friend just had a homebirth Friday night and I was there. Watching her labor reminded me about how much it hurts, LOL, though she did great! Her baby was face up (as was my third and my sixth) and I'm going to investigate how to avoid the face up baby. Those labors stink!

Well, apart from being sooooo sleepy :yawning: I've got no other symptoms. In fact, in a paranoid moment I took another pg test :bag I shouldn't complain right?

I'm in a pickle though as to what to do about a healthcare provider. There are no midwives in my area <sob> so I guess I have to find an ob. Scary thought, we're so new to the area and I don't want to freak people out by asking who their dr. is :lol There is another mom in my dd's preschool group who is due right now (!) so if she's around tomorrow maybe I can ask her. sigh.

It seems my nausea is rearing its ugly head a little more the last few days. I know it'll pass, but ugh...:( We spent the day swimming/playing in the backyard, and then we(gasp!) went and got McDonald's. I know that's very bad, but the salty fries with lots of ketchup sounded soooo good. That was the first junky meal I've eaten since finding out about the pregnancy, and now the thought of eating fast food sounds disgusting at best. I've mainly been craving lots of fruit & veggies and ice water. Just finished eating a juicy nectarine. Yum! My last couple of pregnancies I've already started gaining weight and feeling full by this point, but this time I'm dropping a little and feeling light and not bloated at all. I guess it's because I'm eating healthy and walking, running, & swimming almost everyday, and I'm drinking tons of water and no sugary drinks. It feels good to not be ballooning up so fast... I know it'll happen soon enough.:duck:

Tonight after we ate we went and looked at some new 12 & 15 passenger vans. Just window shopped, since the dealership is closed. They seem huge compared to our 8 passenger mini van, but we have to get one since we'll be a family of 9! All the space will be great, but I'm intimidated at the thought of driving something that big. I was nervous when we went from a car to a mini van, but now I love sitting up higher and no longer like riding in cars. Is anyone else having to buy a bigger vehicle this pregnancy?

We'll have to add a seat in the back of our full sized van. It's meant to seat 11 but we don't have the back seat so it seats eight. I love the extra space in the back and will miss it when we add the extra seat. We upsized to the big van from the mini van last pregnancy. I was intimidated too but it's really not that bad. The front end is actually smaller than a mini van front end so it's a bit easier to park, IMO. I do the pull through alot. I really miss having doors on both sides of the van. Four doors would be ideal in a big van.

One of my first thoughts when I saw the positive test this time was that, yuck, I have to go through labor again. Isn't that horrible? I guess it's still fresh in my mind, and to be honest I'm really dreading it already. It's not like I've had horrible labor experiences or anything either. I'm just tired and don't relish the idea of the hard work ahead. I hate that I feel that way and know I need to work on my outlook. Speaking of avoiding a face up baby... I'm already focusing on leaning forward while sitting instead of leaning back with my feet up. I remember reading all about how important the mom's posture is for proper positioning/lining up of baby last time when I was trying to get my oblique baby to turn. I got the information from a site called spinningbabies.com or something like that. I need to go and read it myself! My babies have a tendency to want to go breech.

I'm doing good so far -- had a little queasiness this morning when I woke up, but it was short lived. DH and I took a nice long bike ride today to go watch the International Pro Cycling Race (its in Philadelphia every year). Now, I ride my bike all over town - but today, I was huffing a puffing not even a mile from my house. I could tell that I was much much more tired than usual, and when we came home I fell into bed and took a nice long nap. Its about 10pm and I am ready to hit the hay again.

I am on a Dragon Boat Racing team (we practice three times a week) and after today's bike ride, I am a little worried about overheating, or overdoing it (heart rate) in the next few weeks, so I guess I will have to see how I feel with that.... It is a low impact endurance sport (kind of like outrigger canoeing), and I know lots of women have done it while pregnant, but since I am not ready to tell the team (they will be happy, and encourage me to stick with it through the summer) I may have to lay low for a few weeks and guage the heat index and get a heart rate monitor for the first few weeks until my body mellows out. I look forward to exercising, swimming, doing yoga throughout my pregnancy. I am lucky to have my sister in law, a yoga teacher, living right across the street too, so I know she will be a great help over the coming months.

We still havent told anyone yet - just kind of letting the news sink in over the weekend. But I think we will probably tell my family next weekend when my parents are over for father's day dinner - I am very close to them, and they will be ecstatic. I also cant wait to tell my younger brother who will be so so excited to be an uncle. As for DH's family, I dont know when to share the news with them -- my MIL is a blabbermouth, and she has a really big family...while I love them dearly, I know that if I dont want the whole world to know yet, I cant tell her the news...so I am trying to figure out when would be the right time to release the news to his family since it will take all of about ten minutes for the 50 of them to find out once we tell her.

We also want to come to terms with what to tell people about our plans re: homebirth. My family will be supportive b/c many women in my family have done that...but DH's family, his mother will be really scared about it, and I want to avoid discussing it with her as much as possible. I dont even know if we will tell them.

I have been looking through the Dr. Sears Pregnancy book, and another one that I have by Penny Simkin to read about what's going on and stuff.

Otherwise, not much to report.

We're going to need to upgrade vehicles this time as well. We currently drive a giant Suburban so at least I won't be to traumatized by the enormous size. LOL!

Ooh, I had a breech! Number 5. What a nightmare! I went to a chiro with number six and at least avoided breech but still got sunny side up. I love spinningbabies.com and it really helped last time. I just think I'm so stretched out that baby can do whatever in there! I'm going to try and stay in shape this time and maybe that will help? I don't know but I'm majorly dreading labor as well. Do you homebirth? I loved my homebirth but after watching my friend I was thinking "hmm, maybe a hospital with drugs is a good idea":lol

It's nice to hear that they're not that hard to drive. Most of our friends have 15 passenger vans, and they keep telling us to get the 15 instead of the 12 and that they're not hard at all to drive once you get used to them. We're going to try and get one that has doors on both sides if possible.:thumb

My first was breech and a scheduled c/sec. My 4th was a double footling breech, sunnyside up with arms extended overhead. It was my 2nd homebirth after a really fast labor. I didn't tear and my ds was just fine. The midwife joked that he wanted to come out landing on his feet, since he was the first boy surrounded by 3 older sisters. Then my last baby flipped flopped side to side and spent a lot of time oblique. She would snuggle down low in my pelvis for a day or two and pop back up and go oblique. She did that right up until a day or so before I went into labor. I got so nervous that she would flip breech, but after paying close attention to my posture and scrubbing the kitchen floor on my hands and knees a few times she stayed head down and got really low. I guess the more you have the more roomy and stretchy it gets in there. Little buggers have all sorts of room to play.:lol

Oops... forgot to answer that! Yes, I homebirth. My first two were c/secs, and all the rest have been born at home. I have the option to go to a very natural birth friendly hospital with a midwife... they even allow water births, but I have a hard time picturing myself laboring anywhere but home with my kiddos around right afterwards. I just love right afterwards when it's just our family. No hospital staff coming in and disturbing. Me, dh, and baby getting to cuddle up in our own comfy bed and actually rest. And... I DO NOT relish the idea of transporting to a hospital during labor, especially close to transition. Kudos to women who can do that! I'm sure I'll probably go right back with my sweet midwives who've delivered my last four. The thing is, is that we have to pay 100% out of pocket for the homebirth, but if we went the hospital w/ midwife route we wouldn't have to pay hardly anything. I entertained the thought for a little while, but deep down I know I want the satisfaction of having a drug free homebirth.

I loved my homebirth! I loved having my kids around after, dh got to play an active role, it was just a wonderful experience all around. We also have to pay out of pocket for homebirth and not for hospital birth but it was so worth it. Not sure how we're going to swing it this time as we're in a worse financial situation than last time but we'll figure it out.....

We had a homebirth with baby #3. I have mixed feelings about it this time around. I *loved* being in my own home, not having to drive to the hospital, having supportive women (midwife, doula and right after birth the student midwife came) helping me. The problem was I really wanted my dh to be able to be with me (he is the best doula!) and my ds wanted him all to himself. We had a friend watching the children, but ds is *very* attached to daddy (which is a great thing!) and wouldn't leave his side. Poor dh almost missed the birth, but thankfully my pushing stage was short (9 minutes) so when dh told ds he'd be back in 10 minutes he wasn't lying!!

I'll admit it, my kiddos are loud and I deal with labor by becoming very quiet and introspective. I am wondering if it would be better to have my MIL come to our house and watch the children while dh and I go to the free standing birth center by ourselves. I keep thinking of it like a date - lol!

I had a uc homebirth with my dd and it was the best! So nice to be in my own home, with dh to help.
I am feeling very sorry for myself today. I have a horrible stomach bug with nasty cramps. It is making me so paranoid - I am going to check for spotting every 10 minutes! :( I hope dh has had a good day - he is getting two bored toddlers dumped on him when he walks through the door! :lol

Ugh - I so need to get some things done around here but I'm SO tired! I don't feel horribly queasy yet but it does come and go. I just want to get some loose ends tied up but I would prefer to sleep all day, LOL.

In preperation for heavy m/s I ordered a couple Wiggles DVD's for my 15 month old. We don't have cable and clearly the TV will be my lifeline for a few weeks while I'm down and out. :lol

Do you mind me asking what kinds of high protein foods you bought? I need to up my protein. I've been slacking on protein intake the last few days, and now my nausea is really peaking maybe as a result of it. Meat and dairy just hasn't sounded good, so I've been shying away from it.

Well, I'm not generally a meat eater but it is loaded with protein so....
I got lots of chicken in many varieties. I got it all ready made and/or frozen. I got already cooked grilled strips to put on whole wheat tortillas with cheese for lunches or snacks. I got some balance protein bars which are actually pretty good. They have 20 grams of protein per bar so that is awesome! The peanut butter ones are really good. I got Kashi vanilla protein shake powder. It not only has tons of protein (29 grams) but lots of fiber as well. It tastes good too. I got shrimp for a snack, cheese, eggs ( I hardboiled a bunch though they don't really have that much protein in them). I'm having granola and vanilla yogurt for a bedtime snack. I keep nuts by my bed to munch on in the night when I wake up. Magnesium, b6 and b12, folic acid, and salt are all important interactions with the protein so I'm eating lots of those too. I cut out coffee and most sweets as sugar really agitates morning sickness. I'm not a huge fruit fan but have been snacking on blueberries or melon throughout the day. Lots of salads and carrots too. This is a pretty big change for me menu wise and I'm hoping I can stick to it. I was a grazer, at best, before, and drank a few cups of coffee/day. Anyway - I'm taking this really seriously and hope it will pay off but who knows? I just don't want to be sick!! No one does, I know. ;)

Kids need me. BBL....

Those are great ideas. I'm jotting them down! I'll have to look into the Kashi protein powder. Do you mix it with skim milk just in a shaker? Protein bars are a good idea too, and I even have some Zone bars in the kitchen. Thanks for the ideas! I needed a kick start!

Hoping your hard work of eating healthy pays off and prevents bad m/s for you.:-)

Those are all great ideas! Very similar to my diet with my last 2 pregnancies (and really, even when I'm not) I had gd with both girls and I expect to have it again :gloomy: The good news is though it was controlled with diet & excercise. I suppose I should count myself lucky that I've never been a "sweet" craver when pg, but bring on the savoury! I loves me some vinegar!
