I will have an elecetive section.. Although...... I have been chewing on this alot. I am scared this go round. I had a difficult birth with Nic * my 3rd* failed 21hr labor that failed, my kids NEVER want too come out.. Well anyway, he was presenting arm firs, so off for Emergency section, then I bled out, needed 2 units of blood, then I got uterine infection. So I am really Scared, but then again... It is fast, and easy. My incision was from Belly button too pubic bone, not sure how my uterus was cut, depencing on that.. I may be able too try for VBAC.. I am going too discuss this on the 21st when I go.

I had my first via induction by a midwife in a hospital. I would love to have a midwife deliver this child, but I have been told that they do absolutely NO medical intervention, and I'm all about my epidural. ;)
So I'm going to ask every single one of the OB's if they are willing to give me the type of delivery *I* want (where there isn't 4 tons of blue sterile cloth everywhere, where I can have my friends in the room and we can have a good time in between pushes, and hopefully I can be induced a little bit earlier this time, since they waited until 41 weeks and I had a 9-pounder. SIGH - keeping my fingers crossed that I find someone willing to work with me.

We are planning a hospital birth with a midwife (insurance doesn't cover homebirth). We are moving to vermont this fall. Once we get settled I would like to look into a :aqua:.

We'll be doing a homebirth for our first baby.
Lizzo, we're in the same boat, and the same state. Are you using a MW? We're going with Womanwise (they do PA, DE, MD area).

My first two were c/secs, and my last four have been healthy homebirth VBACs with a great group of midwives. We're praying for another healthy homebirth with the same group of midwives that attended all my other homebirths.

Well, this is a very complicated question for me to answer.
I've had two hospital births with midwives. The second one I was in the hospital for a total of just a few hours, an hour to get changed, get monitored once, and then to push, an hour to eat a pizza I ordered after the birth, and another hour to nap then I walked out.
This time, though, I'm in Korea. Korean drs and hospitals are very, very 1950s. The nursery takes your baby and you can see the baby twice a day through a glass wall. If you are nursing you can go on down there three times a day for ten minutes and they will "let" you hold your baby.
Then there are the crazy old wives tales that remain firmly within conventional medicine here. Like the need to have the mother overheated during labor, birth, and postpartum. They keep the rooms 90+ degrees. You cannot eat or drink during labor and afterward you are given only seaweed soup and rice to eat while you stay in the hospital for week.
Needless to say, I won't be going that route. So.
Homebirth in Korea. But where do I find a midwife willing to come out here? And where to I house her while we wait for the birth? And what are the laws regarding such a thing?
I'm overwhelmed by it at the moment and am preferring to hide my head in the sand for the duration of the first trimester.

That is a tough situation HeatherKae! I can't imagine. I hope that you find a mw that will be able to help you. If not you could always UC. :)

I'm moving to NJ soon where there don't seem to be any freestanding birth centers :( , so probably hospital birth with MW and/or doula. Home would be nice but not really an option in a tiny apartment/big building...

We are planning a home water birth for this baby. Being a doula, I know all the best people and have known for years who would be at my birth if we ever have another one. :) This will be my first homebirth though.
My first was the typical hospital disaster - when I was young and knew nothing. We had considered homebirth for my 2nd, but the town we lived in did not have a good hospital -and had no L&D unit at all - so I was afraid of going there if we needed an emergency transport. We planned on having her at a free standing birth center since they would transport to a better hospital if needed. At 30 weeks with my 2nd we realized that she had a kidney abnormality and would need a hospital birth. So she was induced in the hospital - with a mw - at 38 weeks. It was a natural induction with no drugs involved, and afterwards the ped who worked on her said that her not having any drugs during labor probably saved her from a very long NICU stay and a lot of other problems. She did have surgery shortly after her 1st birthday and is now completely fine.
With my 3rd I finally got that birth center water birth and it was absolutely incredible. I can't imagine ever giving birth in a hospital again - unless I had too. You can read her great birth story here (http://www.epinions.com/content_2020384900)
We have now moved to a bigger city with a bigger hospital so feel comfortable having a homebirth here. But will definitely rent a tub :) My wonderful doula partner will be with me (although she doesn't know it yet!) and a wonderful homebirth mw who I have worked with many times in the past - and also only lives a mile away. Which is important when giving birth in February in MA!

Courtney - My sister had a CNM in the hospital with an epidural. She was very happy with her experience. :)
HeatherKae - Wow, what a situation to deal with! Where are you located in Korea? I bet the more rural areas still have midwives. Do they have LaLeche League there - maybe you could get a referral? I hope you can find someone soon.

We are undecided about where to have this baby. My first was an unmedicated hospital birth, which was okay except the doctor was totally unsupportive. But, the nurse was fabulous! Our second baby was born at a free standing birth center and our third was a homebirth. Ideally, I'd like a homebirth again, but only if I can find someone to take my children while I am in labor. Even with a babysitter it was tough having them there last time.
I meet the local homebirth midwife on Sat. She is a CNM and takes our insurance - amazing! Next, I'll go visit the local free standing birth center and I might even check out the practice of CNMs that deliver at our nearest hospital. Then, I'll pick who I like best :)

The more rural areas MAY have midwives, but I don't think they'd be what I was looking for. More along the lines of medicine drs. And, honestly, I really don't think they even have them out in the rural areas. Korea is very modern with an emphasis on technology. I think even in rural areas the women travel on in to the hospital. Going to the hospital here is like taking a vacation. People are hospitalized for all kinds of scrapes and bruises.
LLL, I don't know. I"m from Chicago and my parents live about ten minutes from the HQ in Schaumburg. I'm going home for a visit so I will pop in and ask them what they know. If they know anything. Obviously, breastfeeding isn't a priority here (which is strange given the Korean penchant for heath foods and improving their children's chances of intelligence and education).
I forgot to add the one major monkey wrench in my plans. I was diagnosed with Interheptic Cholestasis of Pregnancy last time. Supposedly, it returns and gets worse with each subsequent pregnancy. If it does, I will probably wind up in a Korean hospital regardless, induced at 36 weeks and hating my lot.

We are planning our first homebirth with 2 midwives & 2 doulas along with some family & friends. Our first was a hospital birth with midwife...early water break with OP & ascynclical presentation & partially medicated labor after 36 hours of getting from 1 to 4 dilated...unmedicated birthing (pushing) though:thumb No episotomy or tearing!!

Both mine were hospital births...this one will be too. There are no midwives in my area (too rural) and the ones I did contact while willing to take me on as a client I would have to travel to far to see them :(
However, I'm not to torn up about it. With my last, I was left to do my own thing as I wished so I was happy with that.

I am planning an unassisted birth with this one. I had a hospital birth with ds, which was horrendous and a UC with my dd which was fantastic. I will probably book a homebirth with the community midwives in case I want them on the day.

This is all I could find about LLL in Korea. I hope you'll find a situation that is perfect for your birth, or that you can make perfect! Best wishes!

We're planning a hospital birth with CNMs and a doula. I dream of a homebirth, but DH is not going for it. This seems like a good comprimise.

My first was an awful hospital birth with a "too medical" CNM. This time I'm definitely trying for a home birth with a midwife. I HATE hospitals.

Yeah, like I said, at this point, I'm doing the head in the sand. I'll go into the HQ when home and see if they have anything else they can offer.
Thanks! I appreciate it.

My first was a c-section. My second was an unmedicated hospital VBAC w/ an OB. We are checking out a free-standing birth center next week but I still haven't decided between that and a hospital with CNM's.
Minta
My 1st two babies were delivered in a hospital with CNM. 1st experience not so good, my water broke early at 38 weeks, I was induced with pitocin after 24 hours and had neubane. I was naive. 2nd went 2 weeks overdue and I had to be induced but no pitocin. No meds and wonderful midwife and doula (sister in law) but lost 2 liters of blood after birth. I am thinking about a home birth but hubby is against it. He thinks because of problems with 1st 2 deliveries that a home birth is not a good idea. I'll work on him though, do lots if research and have sister in law and midwife talk to him. Maybe he'll come around. I think my losing a lot of blood really scared him last time.

tls, i lost a lot of blood after my 3rd dd. I was very close to a blood transfusion. I have went on to birth FOUR more babies w/o any problems. A natural birth and natural birth of the placenta will help tremendously with any bleeding problems. :)
Thanks for the encouragement 7kiddosmom. I'm gonna really work on hubby :p.

I had a hospital birth with my son and I had the BEST OB deliver him.
The only problem I face now is he no longer works at my OB clinic. I'm soooooo sad!! He was seriously the best doctor I have ever seen in my life. He was very gental, he made sure I didn't rip or need an episi., he was supportive of any position I wanted to try, he didn't push drugs...he was just wonderful.
I hope I can find another OB who is just as good as he was at the same clinic because my birth experience with my son was amazing.
