Hi KeysMama or anyone else!
My family is planning a dive trip to the Keys this summer and I'd love to know if you have any advice. I'll be traveling with my (then) 3 yo and 10 month old, dh, 10 yo cousin, and my parents (who are the dive masters). Possible some others.
Can you recommend an area to stay at that would have resources for young kids (a playground?)? I'm not sure how far down the Keys we are staying, maybe Key Largo, maybe further. Is that area bfing friendly? I'll be nursing the baby and want to make sure I don't get arrested. :D
Any idea how warm will it be in June?
Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi! I think your best bet for fun will be the State Park rec areas. Beaches, playgrounds, SAFE!
Upper Keys John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park Key Largo
Middle Keys Long Key State Park
Lower Keys Bahia Honda State Park
All have enormous amounts of keys quaintness and are near other areas to explore.
I am in Islamorada, the Upper Keys. We divide the chain into Upper , Middle and Lower. Upper and Lower have the most to do with most charm and people. Something about Marathon and the middle keys is just seedy....maybe because I worked for the Highway patrol too long down here! LOL
I will be happy to make some recommendations ( my kiddies are 6 and 2 so boy do I know.....)
about places to stay, but tell my your pr$ce range as we are pricey down here!
Key Largo Marriott has a playground and the KL Westin
Islamorada check with Cheeca Lodge and Holiday Isle
In June, HOT 90 degrees or more baby!
The Keys is very laid back....most don't care if you are topless really.....

I've been wanting to visit the Keys for years! Glad to read this and have a better idea of where to stay and what to do.
Thanks,

I've recommended Cheeca Lodge to a few people, and everyone has raved. They all say how family friendly the resort is, and how they have great kids programs.

We are headed down there on Saturday!!!!
We always stay at Sunshine Key Campground.
A state park would be much cheaper, but they need like an 11 month reservation.

I am just popping in here. I was born and raised in S. Fl and now live in Michigan. The only things I miss about Fl. is my family, the beach and snorkeling in Key Largo. My family had a camper at a campground in Key largo almost right across from the holidayinn, I think it was Holiday Inn,where you board for the glass bottom boat rides. I loved those summers. So just popping in to reminiss(sp?:p )When I got married dh and I use to pack an overnight bag and drive down to Key West and hang out all weekend, great energy down there.:love
