Hello all. We are investigating a move to this area and I am looking for more information about the area in general, schools, LLL, safety, shopping, amenities, proximity to conveniences. etc. What can you tell me? Thanks.

Hi...
I just moved to the area from Hawaii.
I am living in Glen Rock. Very close to all that you mentioned.
I am out in the country and have not done much looking around but here is what I know.
The schools are supposed to be good... I have only heard that.
I have not spent that much time in York but I have not seen anything that would frighten me. As for the surrounding areas..... very quiet, safe, and country. We are in hillbilly (no offense) haven and it is different from anything I have experienced.
There is a LLL in York and I went to a meeting. They were all very nice and parented in the same way I do. Apparently, there is alot of natural living out here and many resources... just have not found one yet.
Any questions I can answer for you ... please let me know

I live in Dallastown right next to Red Lion,I have lived here for 2 yrs now, what would you like to know? It's very small town living here, and then you can go into east york to all the shopping,I think it's pretty here with alot of farms and open spaces and lots of cows. And it's very hilly here, which doesn't make it to nice for driving in the snow. But as far as safety goes it's very safe here, and the schools are suppose to be pretty good. There is alot churches here and chicken BBQ's,that seems to be the highlight here and town festivals. And alot of parks and not to far from Lancaster where there are alot of things to do there for kids.

We are moving to New Freedom in the fall. I'm looking for a good peditrician and any info about pre-schools in the area. I found this great Waldorf school in Marietta but I think thats an hour away. I only know Glen Rock because of Spoutwood Farms----we were just at the Fairie Festival and it was a blast.
I'm a little nervous because we are moving from a very secluded piece of land in Maryland which I love to a VERY suburban new area. I would love to find some other women to hang out with. But I am excited about the small town feel even if it is just 30 mins. from Baltimore.
I haven't been to York yet. Does anyone know how far it is from New Freedom?
By the way I have a 3 yearold and a 2 month old.

Hi there...
I worked the fairy festivle!!!!
It was a blast!
New Freedom is very close to me... I am in glen Rock. York kind of sucks and its about 20 minutes from me... a little longer for you.
I am still looking for friends and contacts. I am starting a mom and baby yoga class.... and a prenatal yoga class. Hopfuly I will meet some women that way.
I have a 10yo who does not live with me year round and a 14 mo... both girls. I am pregnant with #3... about 6 weeks.
If I can be of any help please let me know. I live pretty rural.

Rianna, thanks so much for your reply!!! Sorry it has taken me so lot to come back to this thread :o
After much soul searching and trying to work out the details, it looks like a move to pa is not in the cards at this point. I have checked out the area some and a friend of mine just moved to Felton and it seems like a lovely area. But my dh works near Washington, DC and even though pa would be the perfect spot for me to sahm, i'd never see my dh and neither would the kids. It took us an hour to get from Shrewsbury just to Columbia (where we now live) and that wasn't in rush hour. And we know it takes about 45 minutes to get from where we live to dh's job.
A 3 hour commute is just too much LOL!!! I can't even believe we considered it, but all the other aspects were great. Perhaps at some point dh can change jobs -- until then I'll visit ;)
Thanks again for your info, it was quite helpful to me and others!

Thanks rianna!
You are really close. I'm planning on joining Spoutwood's CSA, so hopefully I'll meet some people there. And we would love to take a yoga class. My dd is obsessed with the Yoga for Kids tape and I know she would like a class with other kids!
Do you use a ped. in the area? Any recomendations? We are selective about our vacs. and our ped in Baltimore is so great...
I talked to a woman who runs a Montessori about 10 mins. away called TLC Montessori. She was very kind and gave me lots of info about the schools. Anyone heard of it?
Glen Rock is where we orginally looked for a house. We decided to buy a house in a community until we know exactly where we want to move. The community houses seemed to be the best investment for now. I'm just excited to move. It seems like a cool area of small towns.
How about health food stores?

Sadly, I have not been able to fing a doctor for my dd. We dont vax and no one will see us:angry
Sonneywald is the natural food store close to me... its in York New Salem. I dont know of any others that are as good.
I am thinking about joing Spoutwood farm as well... we will see.
I have been here since Dec. We moved from Hawaii. I am slowly learning my way around. We are curently looking for a place to live but it will be in this general area. When I find a place I will start the yoga! I cant wait.
When are you moving?
