I am 27 weeks pregnant with our second dd (Our first is 18 months) I am having a very hard time wiith names for some reason this time. I do seem to be drawn to "S" names for now that is.
My dd,I and our dd have unusual names so i would not want a Mary or Jill...
But I also want to be nice to her, not go to far :D

Any suggestions/comments/additions/different spellings... would be great!
this is what I have so far
Thanks!

*Seren or Serenity
(call her Seren?) Pronounced (ser-in)
to much like sherin? serenity to much like a porn star?

*Seiran (like sear-in)

*Sephra

*Soleil (soul-lay)

*Saoirse (seer -shih or sare-shih)

Too much like the deadly nerve gas, IMO. But I like Serenity. It doesn't sound like a porn star name to me at all. I like the other names you've chosen as well. I think Saoirse is interesting--people aren't going to know how to pronounce it, but I don't know if that really matters in the grand scheme of things since there are plenty of names that people don't know how to pronounce.

Could you educate me? what nerve gas are you talking about? I was not aware of it? is it a common known nerve gas or something?
Thanks for the warning

My dd's a Serenity and we love it and are constantly getting compliments on it! Its proved too difficult to abbreviate, but I kinda like it that its a name people have to slow down and actually pronounce! Oh, but there's also "Serena." Could work as a shortened form....I like Soleil a lot, too...

Sarin (sah-rin) or is the nerve gas, most recently used in the Tokyo subway attack a few years ago by the Aun Shin Ryuku (not spelled right) cult. It is pretty well known.

I think Sera (see-ra) or Rena (ree-na) or Ren (rehn) would be good nicknames. Sephra is a nice name too...unique, so it may cause spelling problems.

Serenity is by far my favorite.

I immediately thought of the nerve gas! I would go with Serenity or Soleil from the list you posted. I think they are the least unusual (from a list of unusual names). I generally like something different but I do like to balance that with the amount of trouble it will cause the child to constantly spell, pronounce, explain a very, very different name. I like something different but not so different that it causes raised eyebrows. Just my opinion....

Good luck deciding - it is harder with the second, huh? You are kind of forced into something that goes with the first child's name - which I totally agree with - it just narrows your choices. Maybe a good thing....

I like Serena, though it's not on your list! I like Saoirse, but being Irish, I'm biased!!

I really like Soleil :sunshine

And I agree about the Seren being too much like sarin - that's the first thing that popped into my head!

Serenity is my dd's middle name! I like it. We also picked it because she is named after her dad- he's Orion and she's Aurora and Serenity souded a little like Sarah- my name to me.

I like Serenity too. Serena and Selena are also nice names to consider. Soleil is also pretty, meaning Sunshine in French. Good luck in your decision-making process!

hi AutumnMom-
For S names I like Sophie & Sadie- maybe they are too old-fashioned or cute for your style, though. I also like Selena. And what about Serephina- Sere or Seren as a nickname?

I myself do not prefer Serenity, or other names like Hope, Faith, etc, too much pressure to be that all the time :D Also Serenity makes me think of "Serenity now!" from Seinfeld, but maybe I'm the only one that would happen to.

For the names on your list, I like Seiran (sear-in, rhymes with Keiran) better than Sarin (rhymes with Karen). I do think the vowel sounds make Seiran more unique. Does Seiran mean anything or is it original? Is it Irish?

OT: We are struggling with girls name, too, but have had our boy's name all picked out for some time- except I think the baby is subliminally sending me "Oliver" which DH & I do not like- but where it's coming from I do not know! I hope the baby is just joking around!:eek (Sorry to any Olivers out there)

blessings, Maria

My daughter's name is Soleil....seems weird to see someone else contemplating it...:o

I am french though, and don't pronounce the way you do.

I love her name, so does she, when people ask her her name, she says, Soleil the sunshine! :D ...then she's says, I know it's long, but that's me!(she's 3.5) :LOL

Peace,

Okay, lets see, how I should explain it....

...but not like so, more like sa i guess maybe, it's hard to explain, trying to think of something it sounds like, cause how do I put french on it? to me it sounds exactly as written so-leil....do you know how the french say ear in french? cause it sounds like that! LOL...sorry, not much help!!

But most english people here to pronounce it so-lay.

um...you can use my name if you come up with a good second girl name for me! :D

Thanks for the explanation, Mamasoleil. All I know about pronouncing that name is from the Punky Brewster actress, Moon-Soleil Frye, and the Ban de Soleil sunscreen. There used to be commercials for it in the early 80s. I think I say SoLay, but I don't put the emphasis on the So, so it comes of sounding kind of like suh-LAY.
