Has anyone purchased one yet? if so, what kind? why do you like it?
I'm leaning toward getting a wise woman sling with my birthday money - a hybrid between a pouch and a ring sling. I also had a friend give me her kozy karrier when she moved away.
Just curious...

I haven't gotten mine yet, but a friend of mine is buying it for me. This is the one I'm getting Mamma's Milk Adjustable Pouch (http://store.attachedtobaby.com/detail.aspx?ID=206&Name=Mamma's-Milk-Invisibly-Adjustable-Pouch). I'm so excited to get it too.

I haven't bought mine yet, but I know which ones I'm getting. We'll be getting a BabyHawk Mei Tai and an Ellaroo slighly padded ring sling. (I don't have time to link now, but I'll come back and do it) These will fit both DH and myself that was one of the reasons why I choose them.

I avoid slings just because they are really hard on your back because they put all the weight on one shoulder and the muscles really wrench to accomodate that. I dunno, if you have a sensitive, sore back I would avoid them and perhaps try a wrap instead! My dd hated to be squished and lying on her back in a sling as an infant though, she prefered to be upright where she could see the world :p Sorry to be so negative but I thought Id add my opinion.
I think wraps are perfect and versative for newborns and they distribute the weight evenly. I picked up a moby wrap and cant wait to use it!
Before you pick a sling I would check out the reviews on http://www.thebabywearer.com/ , very helpful!

I love padded ring slings, I made my own from online instructions, it was really easy and I got to make it exactly the way I wanted. BIG BONUS! It only cost $15 and its gorgeous fabric

I'm just going to make a pouch sling for the begining and then maybe a mai tai after that? Not sure yet.

I splurged on a Rockin' Baby (http://store.attachedtobaby.com/detail.aspx?ID=169&Name=Rockin'-Baby-Reversible) unpadded ring sling and absolutely love it! By far the best ring sling I've ever worn, and well worth the money. I've carried my 35lb 2yo in it several times, he loves it and so do I.

I've made a pouch sling, a ring sling and a mei tai carrier. You can see pics in my blog...
So far the mei tai feels like it will be the most comfortable and secure.

I'm a big pouch fan myself. The only downside is that it can be hard to get the right fit when you're pg. One option would be an adjustable pouch, like the fleece pouches from Kangaroo Korner---- www.kangarookorner.com or the hemp fleece ones from Mom and Me Creations----- http://www.mom-and-me-creations.com/
Both of these are wonderful pouches. I really like the Kangaroo Korner fleece for fall and winter. They are really cozy and warm.

I bought 2 hotslings (one padded, one for the pool). I never used a sling with my dd when she was an infant, but I've been trying them out with her now. She loves it! I took her downtown to a baseball game with the sling instead of the stroller. We were out 3 hours and it was heaven. She loved it, it's easy to use, and I didn't have to mess with a stroller. She's 20lbs and my back only started to hurt near the end of our trip. The back pain was probably due more to me being pregnant than using a sling though.

So far I have a Maya wrap sling (this is what I primarily used with DS and I really liked it), a Moby wrap (stretchy), an Ellaroo wrap (woven, but thinner than the German type wraps), and a Baby Hawk mei tai.
The Ellaroo and BH are new, I got them off of the FSOT board at thebabywearer.com...I can't recommend that site/message boards enough, SO much great info! :thumb

Hi ladies! I'm new around here, but I've been discussing slings on another board I go to...
I'm having a hard time deciding what to get! We had a infantino sling with my god son..which he loved and we loved, but it can only be used in a cradle hold, so I was looking at slings like hotsling, and new native baby carrier, that can be used that way, and then as the babe gets bigger can be used in sitting, and back posisitions...I need to order one soon as its my mom's gift for me for my July 22nd shower!!
Reading your suggestions is helpful, but adds a whole 'nother set of things to consider before making my decision!! :-)

I've bought (and am happy with...although I haven't been able to use them yet)
a Hotsling & a Zolo. One is a pouch, the other an unpadded ring sling.
Definately check out The Baby Wearer as the PP suggested.
I bought mine from www.attachedtobaby.com & have been really impressed with their customer service (and prices!)
