Midwife needed in Reno

Is Nevada not midwife friendly? I have a friend who lives there and I don't want her to have to go to the hospital again. She said the closest midwife she could find was 400 miles away!

Hi...I am not in Reno, but in Las Vegas. Nevada isn't overly populated with natural birth resources unfortunately. I know there are midwives and doulas in Reno though. I will check on my resources and see what I can find.:)

I hope you find some, I'll be interested to see what you find. My best friend had a 1 1/2 hour labor, and a 1 hour labor - she can't have a homebirth cause she couldn't find a homebirth midwife anywhere. Seems a shame, since she pops them out so easy! A handful of contractions, a 5 minute transition, three pushes and they are born! She pays thru the nose at the hospital cause their insurance isn't great. I'd love to give her the name of a midwife to give her another option.

In my opinion, Nevada is not only NOT midwife-friendly, they are just plain not CHILD-friendly. I've never seen so many medically managed births - it's quite the norm there apparently! My sister got off easy with epidurals, episiotomies, and the whole nine yards (but birthed vaginally all the same!), discouraged from nursing and sent home with formula samples. Oye.

That is so crazy, I didn't realize how lucky I was to have my baby in Oregon. wow! i would never have a baby in a hospital. Yikes. Pharmaceutical companies they own everything . . .

aw, c'mon you guys! Don't be so hard on Nevada. I was raised an hour south of Reno, and I would hardly call the place NOT child friendly.

In fact, both my mother and sister had very natural labors and deliveries there without even being asked if they wanted meds. Both in hospitals.

My best friend is still in Tahoe and was heavily involved in Bradley classes there.

As far as midwives, I don't know, although I do know people that birthed at home while I was growing up, so it does exist.
