Spotlight Thread sign-ups are now closed. Thanks to everyone for volunteering!

Spotlight threads (aka Get to Know You) threads are a great way for us to learn more about each other. Each Spotlight thread is hosted by one person who shines the spotlight on another member of our ddc. We all get to ask questions of the spotlighted person and hopefully she will answer most of them.

Our Spotlight threads are now 4 days long each, either running from Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday. Please be sure to start your thread on time. If you are due to start a thread and it isn’t up by the following morning, Astromom or I will go ahead and start it for you. This is not meant to offend anyone in any way. We just want to make sure everyone gets their due time in the spotlight with this new shorter timeframe.

When it's your turn to be a hostess, start a new thread on your specified date with the title "Spotlight on [username of the person you're hosting and thread dates]". Include a few questions in the original post to get things rolling. If your person doesn't reply to their thread or you know they don't post much, PM them a little reminder that it's their week to be a DDC superstar!

If your assigned date doesn’t work for you, please PM me asap and I’ll get you a new date. :)

So the hostess would post those first ones and then if the thread gets slow you can bump it up with a couple more. Once everyone is signed up, I'll post a schedule in the first post and probably have it stickied too.

Any suggestions for the initial set of questions to start each thread with? Do you all want me to do the first one as an example?

What sort of initial questions would be good to get each thread going? I'll throw out some ideas for that initial set...

What's your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Do you have any pets?
Are you planning a homebirth, birth center birth, or hospital birth?
How did you meet your SO?

What other/better questions would be good to start them all out with?

Ok, I posted the schedule and will start making matches this evening. I'd do it now but I'm due for high tea at the Four Seasons in an hour and a half. No really - we're going out for a tea party for my friend's birthday! :lol

There's a new and improved schedule in the first post. As a wise Mama pointed out to me (thanks Astromom :)), by doing one thread per week we were getting too close to some of our due dates. So to avoid anyone having to answer questions between contractions ;), I switched things around and now there will be two threads each week. As always, any questions or problems, I'm your gal. :D

And to everyone - should we skip a week or two around the holiday season? Maybe the week of 12/24 and maybe even the week before for Hanukkah and all us holiday procrastinators? What about Thanksgiving too? It falls on 11/23 this year, so what would be the best week to skip - the one before or the one after? Input, advice? :lurk:

Thanks! We 6+ers need to stick together! :lol That should be OK...I'm actually starting my vacation October 19th, but I'll have access to a computer during that time. Will definitely be around for the hosting--no plans for Thanksgiving (except being pregnant, dumb, and happy! ha, ha).

I think it would be best to skip the week of Dec 24th, as many people will be off work/traveling/taking it easy/stressing out/dealing with relatives and visitors/all of the above! I know I won't be around, anyway.

Yeah, it would be good to skip around the winter holidays. I know that chanukah sneaks up on me WAY too fast and I'm always stressed around that time!

And maybe the week of Thanksgiving, so the Monday before don't have anyone, but do someone the Monday after. Anyway, that's my 2 cents!

I also added in some weeks off for the upcoming holidays. Now here's a question (if anyone is still reading this :lol) - do we want to shorten the time span of the threads? I saw that Feb 07 is only doing theirs for a couple days each. Does this sound more appealing or are the week long threads working well? :lurk:
