With my last two pregnancies I only let the MW use the doppler once and that was at 11-13 weeks before I could feel movement and before it could be heard with a fetoscope. The doppler was not used again until labor and only 1-3 times then - I birth pretty fast though :)

So this time I am thinking about not using it at all during pregnancy. It is nice to hear it around 12 weeks so you know everything is ok but I am trying to get more comfortable with the idea of not using it at all.

Anybody else?

Keri

I've been toying with that idea as well...

In past pgs I have used the doppler till we could use the fetoscope then use that till the birth. Last pg I had really spaced out prenatals so I think we only used the doppler once.

I won't be using doppler at all, didn't with dd either. Actually, her birth went so quickly that the midwife didn't get there in time to use the doppler during labor either.

We were able to get her hb at 16 weeks with a fetoscope. Oh, that's a long time from now...... 9 weeks from now, ugh. So hard to be patient....

I say I wont use it every pregnancy, but I always seem to revert back to it. My HB midwives always ask before pulling it out, and we always wound up using it. I think my excess belly fat makes it hard to hear with a fetoscope.

How cool! I am like most of you. Doppler at about 12 weeks, just once, and then not again until labor (and maybe not even then). I thought I was unusual. And I always kind of feel like a "difficult patient" but my MW is quite cool about it, and totally willing to use the fetoscope.

I am not even 100% convinced there is any real risk, but I am also not convinced it is 100% safe! :lol
