I've been really nauseated for 4 weeks now (I'm 9 weeks due to miscalculation of due date) and people keep telling me that constant nausea means I'm carrying a boy. Seems weird to me but I didn't have sickness with my daughter so I was wondering what y'all think...

That's interesting...I had always heard the opposite! I don't think there really is anything to it. Each pregnancy is different.

That's funny... I thought I heard it the other way around, m/s = girl. I could be wrong though. All I know for sure is that I was terribly sick with my dd.
I don't know...but when I was pregnant with DS, I was only nauseous once or twice.

The old wives tale is that lots of sickness and weight gain = girl, as the girl is trying to steal her mother's beauty. ;)
I've had a boy and a girl, and was more sick with the girl, but I don't think there's much truth in the story.

Nope.
Lessee, what is true... girls make maternal asthma worse. And morning sickness indicates reduced odds of miscarriage. (Both of those are small but statistically significant differences - doesn't mean they're terribly useful as predictives.)

That is very interesting. I had very little morning sickness with DD. Didn't even feel nauseaus till about 10 weeks, and then still never really puked.
But morning sickness is killing me this time round. It is a constant struggle and rush to the toilet.

I had always heard that girls made their moms more nauseous. I had occasional waves of nausea when pregnant with DS and alot of food adversions. Someone should do a poll to see if there is any truth behind these myths.

Nope. No truth to that. I was only sick a morning and a half with my ds and my friend was sick the entire first trimester with her ds. So....:shrug......to each their own.....

I have 2 boys and 2 girls and was equally nauseaus with each of them.
I also don't buy the whole 'being sick is a good sign' The pregnancy I was the very sickest ended in m/c at 10 weeks, however, it was twins so that is likely the reason I was so sick but I still think it's crap.
Oh, and I also don't buy the whole 'girls make your butt bigger' and 'you carry boys in front' or that you gain weight in different places or that you gain more with one sex or the other. My first and third pregnancies were the most similar and one was a boy and one was a girl. #3 and #4 were very different symptoms, ie tireness, breast tenderness, body shape etc and they are both girls.

I think it has more to do with *your* body. My friend had very different pregnancies with her girls than she did her boy. I'm finding my own pg different this time, and I'm thinkin' it's a girl this time. We shall see... :D

I think the wives tale is that ms=girl. A few years ago they did a study in Sweden or Norway and found there is some truth to it. Women who were expecting girls actually were significantly sicker than those expecting boys and was attributed to hormones.
I haven't been sick with either of my boys and am not very sick now (though I did have plenty of weight gain during both past pregnancies)

I had nausea with DD so I think it's an old wives tail!

I always heard that you had worse morning sickness with a girl. In my case that was absolutely true. I had a little on off queasiness with DS, but with DD I was very nauseous up until the middle of second trimester.

Just to add to the thread, I had no M/S with my DD, carried in front, and only gained 19 lbs. Everyone in the states told me I must be having a boy. Funny thing is, at around 6 months, I went on a trip to Jamaica. Everyone took one look and told me it was a girl! Maybe old wives tales differ by culture?

I had 2 boys and then a girl - and I was WAY sicker with the girl than the boys. I've heard there's an increased amount of progesterone circulating with a girl pregnancy so it makes you sicker - but I think if that was truly substantiated it'd be more widely known. This pregnancy is #2 out of the 4 for morning sickness... with my girl, I was sick 2-3 times a week (throwing up) for the whole 9 mos. I've never heard more m/s = boy.

I've had 2 girls and 4 boys. Sick with each one. I vote for old wives tale and not true. I think if any of these old wives tales were true someone would have figured it out and no one would have to wait for their us to know what the sex was :lol
