View Full Version : yeast cures?

As I sit here sipping my apple-cidar-vinegar-water and thinking about my lunch of plain yogurt, I am wondering if anyone has ideas for ANY OTHER yeast infection treatments that are safe during the 1st trimester. I'm also taking baths with vinegar, acidophilus supplements, and avoiding sweets. I am not going to take ANY drugs until at least the 2nd trimester (if I'm not in a mental hospital for insanity-brought-on-by-itchiness by then).

After a long stint with recurring yeast infections and trying numerous natural cures, my experience is that they don't work. I hear lots of people recommending various things - Hope you get a solution you are comfortable with. And they must work for some people - but never worked for me.But if it's very uncomfortable, I would seek out advice from your midwife or ob/gyn.
You can use the acidophillus supps as a vag. suppository also - but I don't know if I'd do that when pg wihtout consulting some expert source.
Sorry - I'm jaded on natural YI remedies.:duck:

Jenny,
I guess I get to be one of those "natural yeast infection healer" people, LOL. But I just had to post because I have had the forutne of helping some very dear friends who had incessant infections.
I just saw my m/w yesterday and she totally supported this remedy; one I also tend to use for the beginnings of a pelvic infection.
3 acidophilus
2 odorless garlic 500 mg (I prefer Arizona Natural Allirich odorless)
3x a day for 3-5 days.
I swear it's safe for you and the babe. I realize it's more than the dosage on the package. What it does is bring the body back into alkaline balance (acidophilus) while amping yor immune system and beating away and infection (garlic is a natural, safe anti-biotic that works with the pro-biotic)
I have yet to meet someone for whom it didn't work. Please let me know if it doesn't.
Your avoiding sugar is great. Other instigators are white refined bread and too much meat-veggie/fiber ratio. (makes the body acidic)
Most of all, good luck!

People on these boards have also suggested shooting a syringe of plain yogurt or putting a clove of garlic directly into the vagina. I pretty much have a 9 month yeast infection when I'm pregnant so I feel your itch :)

I have only had three yeast infections and this last one showed up the day after ovulation :irked: At least it was AFTER.
This is what I did:
Plain yogurt mixed with powdered acidophilus orally and topically
Acidophilus pearls - I took two 3 times a day
NO sugar including sugary fruit
Very little white flour
Bioron makes a homepathic insert I used at night for 3 nights
This was the WORST YI I never had and after 4 days I was 90% and after 6 days I was 100% and back in the sack again ;)

Thanks you for your suggestions and support, Mamas! :flower I am one more day on the vinegar/yogurt/acidophilus thing ---- which actually seems to be working (don't want to be too optimistic yet -- I'm superstitious)!
Will try the garlic supplements, & avoid fruit if things don't go well (forgot to mention I am already trying to avoid white flour).
When (***optimistic vision***) this infection is over, I will continue to take one acidophilus a day and eat yogurt at least every other day throughout the pregnancy.
The hardest part is not sweetening my tea. :(

I usually stick a clove of garlic up there, take the skin off and wrap it in a piece of gauze. You've done enough when you can taste it. :)

I usually alternate between the yogurt and the probiotic (up there:lol ) and it seems to work great. Give it a couple of days, though

One thing to AVOID while dealing with yeast is fish. Yeast eat mercury so instead of your body flushing a certain amount the yeast eat it and in effect your body stores the mercury. When you finally kill the yeast your body not only gets the nasty yeast toxins but the higher loads of mercury that the yeast was storing. If you eat a lot of fish you could in theory get mercury poisoning. This is something I learned while dealing with thrush and bfing. HTH
