Type1 diabetic mother seeking info on possibility of home birth

I am a new father to be and my wife has type 1 insulin dependant diabetes. can you give any/all info on the possibility of having a natural home birth. thank you

I did a Google search on this recently. Basically the consensus is that the key is to monitor the blood sugar levels during pregnancy and that blood sugar can go wonky during labor (can't remember the details, I think that spiking at the start of labor is common). You're going to find it harder to find a midwife who's willing to take your wife on for the birth because of the diabetes, but it's not necessarily impossible.

Have you and your wife discussed this with her endocrinologist?
