I am planning a waterbirth UC with DH. He is a bit nervous but fully on board. I can't wait! DD was supposed to be a waterbirth at a birth center. When I was 41.5 weeks an u/s showed little fluid remaining and I was sent in for an emergency induction which was far from ideal and had many interventions. I feel lucky I didn't have a c-sec.

I'm still thinking about it.

I was unable to find any midwives in my area last pregnancy, so I don't know if I'll find one this time. Last time I went to hospital since we don't have a birth center, and neither of us felt comfortable with a UC. Overall, I was pleased and ended up with the birth I want, so if I have to go that route again - I think I'll be okay with it.

i'm planning a water birth at a birth center (www.beststartbirthcenter.com). i have my first appointment with the midwife on monday, and i'm going to call their bookkeeper on wednesday to find out what the out-of-pocket expense will be. i went in yesterday for a stealth scoping out mission. i got a walk-in pregnancy test and then managed to have the tech give me a little tour of the place. it is BEAUTIFUL. they're building brand new rooms upstairs, and they are so gorgeous.

what does the UC in unassisted homebirth stand for?

I am still looking for a midwife, but we are having a homebirth, maybe a waterbirth this time! Sounds so relaxing!

I'll most likely have a waterbirth at home. My first two kiddo's were waterbabies and I had them at my mom's house, in her large garden tub. I had them at my mom's because I always lived in apartments or something and didn't want to set up a pool, plus, I just felt really comfortable at my mommy's house. I really got to be pampered while I was there, since we usually stayed for a day or two.

This time, we'll probably do it at my house, since we own our home and have a huge tub. Then again........it's really nice to be pampered at my mom's......We'll see!

Either way, I'm all lined out with my midwife and ready for a homebirth. I might try to talk DH into catching, although I really liked having him support me from behind, also.

I will most likely be having a repeat c-section. I have a pelvic kidney and no one thinks that it is safe for me to do it any other way (birth centers, midwifes, or MD's).

hospital birth with a midwife - I'd love to do a birth center, but there are none around here. I've heard good things about water birth, so I'm interested in that, though when I asked the midwife about it, she said she doesn't recommend it for first birth, but that we could do it if I wanted. So we'll see - it does sound really soothing.

we already toured the hospital we plan to use (while we were still ttc :o ) and both felt really good about it - sounds like it'll offer a lot of freedom, and the nurse that took us around was great - we felt very comfortable, so I'm pumped about that :thumb

homebirth with midwife, here. kelsi, i'm jealous of your planned uc, though! i've been processing a lot of details about hazel's birth, lately--it mostly went really well, but there are some things i'd like to change with this one. she was a sort-of waterbirth (shoulder dystocia, so i had to push her out above the waterline between contractions, with the midwife putting traction on her head), but i feel like the water limited my choices, so i'll probably get a tub but just labor in it.

I was surprised when DH easily agreed to it! He tends to be conservative to my crunchyness, so I was prepared to fight for it, but I didn't have to!:lol

I'm planning a UC waterbirth also. I don't know if it will end up in the water or not.. I'm just gonna go with the flow and see where I feel most comfortable. This will be my first homebirth and I'm really looking forward to doing it my way with no one yelling at me and telling me what to do!

Oh, I want to add that our birth center does waterbirths. I can't think of any earthly reason not to take advantage of that!

The only other birth center we would consider is at a hospital, and is pretty well-known for being fantastic for natural births and midwives. However, you can only labor in the water/tubs, but have to get out to actually push. I can imagine that being the most annoying feeling ever - getting out of the water when it starts to get hard!

I would definately pick a homebirth with a midwife if I could, but unfortunately I may not have that option since I am living in Japan. I know there are midwives here, but the people I have asked have said that they may not take me since I don't speak Japanese. I don't know what to do right now! In fact, since I just found out this morning that I am pg--I'm still a little overwhelmed with that info (had an appt for IUD next week--LOL).

I'm in South Dakota so the options are really limited to either unassisted home births or hospital births. There are midwives at the hospitals but I prefer the family doctors at my local clinic. I'm planning on using one of them. The only way I would consider the home birth is if there is an April blizzard.

I'll be having a hospital birth with a midwife. We're military, so it's pretty hard to do otherwise and I feel great about my midwife...he's very pro-mommy.

So far at the moment the plan is a homebirth with a very hands off midwife. I used her for my hbac last year. My husband isnt quite comfortable with uc yet. I dont think its the actual uc but that he likes the conveinance of a midwife. (cleaning up, having help, etc.) I am kinda hoping he comes around before the end of this pregnancy. I know at some point(we plan to have a large family) we will uc. I am just not sure when it will be.

I voted homebirth with midwife. My first three were born in the hospital, varying degrees of disappointment and trauma. My last baby was born at home in the water, with no one there but my dh and the photographer. :heartbeat

My midwife is totally hands off and I look forward to having her with me, but I don't want the assistant and the doula and and and and... So if the time comes, and I don't want anyone there, I am completely comfortable having a uc.

But I will have prenatals for sure with my midwife, just cause she's my friend and I love hanging out with her! Its a good excuse to get to talk about my pregnancy/baby with someone who loves birth as much as I do!

My midwife won't do VBACs at home, so it's the hospital for us.

We're crossing our fingers and toes that the Mennonie midwife who runs a birthing center out of her home will take us. She lives about a half-hour away. Otherwise, it's a hospital birth for us. The nearest homebirth midwives are over an hour away. One is Amish and has missed a couple of births in our area, and since this is my fourth, things happen pretty quickly. The last one shot out like a cork, :lol!

We are planning our second HBAC and my 3rd VBAC. I am open to being in the water as we have a BIG garden tub.

I LOVE my midwife and I have my first prenatal visit on Monday. I had had hyper-emesis with all my other pregnancies so we are planning heavily for several months or bed rest.

I voted undecided. I would love a homebirth with a midwife but have had 3 c-sections and for a variety of reason's I am not sure what will happen this time. Definitely on my mind a lot lately and it's going to take some time, patience, research and soul searching before I have an answer :D

Because of insurence issues and some spotting that I had where I needed to be seen right away, we are going to a really nice obgyn right now. She is so sweet and respecting of my wishes that we will probally stick with her for the entire pregnancy. I do not want to deliver in the hospital though, unless we land up having huge complications or twins. So the plan right now is to labor at home and have an "oops we didnt make it to the hospital in time" baby. We have not metioned this to anyone IRL because of lack of support. I am so excited that I get to have a baby!

hospital birth with midwife! In and out in no time at all. The midwives here only make you stay for a couple of hours after the baby is born.
NO DRUGS, NO UNNESSECARY FETAL MONITOR, NO NURSES PEEKING AT MY CROTCH, NO OB BOSSING ME AROUND!

we are planning our second homebirth with the same midwife that we used with our son. she's very laid-back, which we like a lot.

Our first choice would be a homebirth with a midwife, but the midwife I really want to use is about an hour and a half away from us. She runs a birth center close to where she lives, so we will go there to have the baby. I think it would be unrealistic to have her drive an hour and a half to our house while she may have other clients due around the same time frame that are giving birth at her birth center. I feel pretty comfortable with that choice since they say baby #1 tends to come relatively slow and we will probably have plenty of time to get there. I also know that many of her clients do travel from far away towns and just stay at the center for a few days if need be. I can't wait until my first appointment with her - it will be so exciting to discuss birth plans!

I voted Birth center, though it's still possible that I might stay home. I don't know where we are going to be living when the baby is born, so I'm hesitant to commit to a homebirth if we're going to be sharing apartment walls with too many other people. I also think DH will be more comfortable with a birth center.

I'm planning a birth center birth with a midwife, but it's a bit complicated. I live several thousand miles from where I'll be giving birth and there are no private practice midwives here, so my prenatal care is being done by an OB. I'll go up to have a visit with my midwife during my first and second trimesters, and then I'll go up from probably 36 weeks or so until a week or 2 after I give birth.

We're planning a homebirth with the midwife I used to assist. She was the first person I called when we found out yesterday, but she's on vacation until next friday so I left her an excited message that she probably won't be able to understand for whe she gets back:lol

I would love to give birth in a birthing center or at home but dh is NOT on board w/ that idea so, I am hoping for hospital w/ midwife. Dh is still trying to get me to go with the same ob as last time. She was nice but they wouldn't let me eat anything but popcicles and I was starving and I am NOT going through that again. If I want to eat then I'll eat. :lol

I'm not sure yet. We might be relocating to another state during this pregnancy. Right now we're in a rural area, far enough from a hospital that I couldn't find a midwife willing to come out here in the past. If we move we'll be closer to a town. Also, I had blood pressure problems at the end of my last two pregnancies. I've lost quite a bit of weight since my last, though, so hopefully that will help.

I also developed an unusual medical condition since the birth of my daughter; I convinced my midwife that I'm fine under her care and the care of my neuro-opthlamologist, but I don't know if another midwife would take me on.

So, I'm going to just wait and see at this point!

Finally have DH on board with a home birth:jumpers: unfortunatly the choices here are hospital/gyn (my last two) or home birth. The midwives here have an excellent rep. I would have love to have used them last time but dh wasn't ready for that yet, this time he is totally psyched!:wink

I'm having a hospital birth with a midwife. I did this last time and it was just fabulous. I knew my midwife really well by the time the birth came around so it was like having a friend there for support.
