This is one of my favorite parts of being pregnant. I just love thinking of new names for new little people.

Do you guys have anything in mind yet?

For a girl, I've got a couple that have been buzzing around my head lately.

Sophia Skye W
Jocelyn Sophia W
Stella ...... W

For a boy, this one is a lot harder. I want to have something that isn't super popular, nor super weird. DH and I had some strange names going on before we came to our senses and named DS Mason Gage.

Miles James W
Sawyer .....W <DH totally nixed Sawyer, but I still like it.
Ridge........W <our last name end with "ch" so I don't think this will work, but I like it.
Adding Camden and Asher
Griffin nn Griff
Coran
I scan EVERYTHING for baby names. Movie credits, books, baby books, websites, songs, cities.......

Hmmmm. I'm wondering if we can create a sticky so we can all keep track of names we like and add/delete? I'll always think up a good name and then forget it. I know I had another girl name to go with Sophia, but now I can't remember!:irked:

yay! nichole, your choices are all BEAUTIFUL.

ours are:
girl -
1. Margaret (Maggie)
2. Edith (Edie)
3. Audrey (H is lukewarm on this one, but he'll come around. JUST YOU WAIT.)

boy-
1. Henry
2. Charlie

We honestly can't think of anything else for a boy, and I don't really like Charles, just Charlie.

I've been contemplating a girl's name. Both dd and dh like the name Ruby but I want something more unique, natural and meaningful. Dh says "what's more meaningful than a precious gem?" :lol :shake

I might have to give in because nothing else has struck me, thus far, as right for us.

well me and my fiance have decided totally on a girls name

Madison Kaylah

But for a boy we are not too sure, I really like the name Cameron. But no one else seems to like it.

Rayna
Sofia
Elisabeth

We went with Nadya Brielle

For a boy we were going to go with
Antoni Edward

the first name being my great-grandfather's name (Polish) and the middle name being my grandfather's name.

I love Audrey. I think it's a very classy name. We have some friends that named their dd that.

Henry is also cute. I couldn't stand it a coupla years ago when a friend was thinking of using it, but now I like it!:duck: Of course, we can't use it because then they'd think we told them we didn't care for it so we could steal it. (Not that they didn't use it just because we didn't like it) Another friend did name her ds Henry and it's just so cute on him.

I like Charlie for a girl. I think I would go with Charlize or Charlotte and then nn Charlie. Charlie for a girl makes me think of a hip, independent young thing.:p

Ooh -- I love talking about names!

I tend to favor more unusual names (DS is Sorin, DD is Halsea). We haven't really discussed names yet but are open to unusual suggestions. I like names like: Rory, Chapin, Hayes, Sebastian. I do like Charlotte. Hmm, I've got to start my list!

We've picked the girl name, but both DH and I believe it is a boy, and we haven't found anything that both of us like. I like unusual and he likes traditional names.

The girl name is Abigail Layne.

DD is Eirian Gail (AR-re-an) and she goes by Ari:wink

Yay!!!
I love reading everyone's names!!
Our girl name is pretty much set, but we're struggling with the boy names....
I'm also big on family names, so our girl name will be Eveln, after my H's late mom and some middle name from my side of the family....
Evelyn Cheri, Evelyn Cora or Evelyn Julia.

and for the boys... dunno...
maybe
Timothy Richard, Antone Richard, or Richard Hale.
All family names too.

This is the fun part...ok let's see.
We named the little girl that we lost Sophie Lucille.
Other girl names we like are...
Grace Lorraine
Audrey Elise
Eisley Marseille

Boy names are harder for us...mostly because DH is passionately opossed to naming our firstborn son anything other than his name. :dizzy: So it looks like it will be
Jonathan Matthew, II
but I also like...
Ethan
Caleb
Gage
Aiden

Right now, we have three boys and a girl so we are hoping this baby is a little girl...for no other reason than my dd wants a sister! :duck:

We generally name our babies DAYS after they are born...much to my family's chagrin! :lol I need to meet them and get a feel for them before naming them.

That said, I've always loved the name Katey, since I was a kid and felt kinda sad I never got to use it. I considered it for all my kids - clearly didn't need to use it for my boys, but my dd was just not a Katey...she is most definately a Victoria!

All my kids have pretty traditional names. I'd love to be daring and exotic, but our last name is awful! Makes any "unusual" first name sound like a cough and a sneeze when said together. :lol

So my goal is to find a very cool, fitting name that I adore that has Katey as an obvious nickname. Marie is the middle name for sure, its family tradition. So far I have:

Katrah Marie
Katia/h Marie - just seeing it how would you pronounce it?

For boys, I don't have a name at all but I'm sure he'll tell us what it is after he's born. :wink

This is SO much fun! :lol

Our dd is named Emma, which we love, but apparently so did everyone else in 2004. We won't make that mistake again.

A boy will be Jackson Albert. Albert is after my grandpa and we really just like "Jack".

For a girl, I really like Jane or Margaret (Maggie). DH doesn't like either of those so we'll see.

I can't believe all of the names you all have been thinking about! Then again, we had Maddie named before we were even married. We just knew that was the name.

Here's some unusual names that I've heard and I don't think I can get DH to use:

boys:
Truan
Safin

girls:
Bergan
Beldaran
Brynn
Amyah
Briyah
Azure

DH likes Maeve. Something Irish like our last name and the others have Irish/French names.
I'd like Susannah as a middle name. That's as far as we've gotten.

We've never been able to find a boy name that we've both liked. Maybe it is a sign that we just aren't destined to have a boy.

We ave a Katherine Marie (call her Kate or Katie) and Grace Elisheva

I really like Cadence, but Cade is too close to Kate. And Caris, but it means Grace (poo)

I like Ainsley, Annaliese, Rachel, Alison and Kirsten for a girl.

Josiah, Andrew, Christian, Jameson and Grayson for boys.

My DH and I have been having issues about it for a girl he likes

Kornelia Thyme
Grietje Dael(both names are dutch)
Hendrika Sophia

And I like for girls
Rebbekah Vittoria or Rebbekah Sophia
Suzette Maria
Samara Franscesca
Reannon Natalia

And we are sure we're having another girl...

I keep adding boy names, but hardly even thinking of girl names!

I wonder what that means.....?

Either I'm having a girl and she already knows her name or I'm having a boy and will have to obsess over boy names for the next 35 weeks!:lol Not that that's a bad thing.

ok so for girls we would need something that flows with the other two girls (sophia & emma)

we are debating over
Abigail Grace
Fiona Grace
Sarah Grace
Mia Grace ( I really like Mia but it I think it sounds too similar to emma?)

:banana :banana

boys:

Well, as of right now we have pretty much decided, but that doesn't mean much in the first tri. We are definite on the boy, but girl could change.

Our last name is single syllable, starts with D and is Irish

Bodhi Foster D
Bodhi Michael D
or
Bodhi Marshall D
(Middles are all family names , not sure if we will use one of these or something else...)
~But isn't Bodhi awesome!!?? Everyone is predicting a boy too, so maybe we won't have to stress about the girl names...

Berkeley (not really sure on middle) maybe Scott? Anna?

My list has been long and varied, but these are the names that dh likes too!

Some girl names I have liked...

Laurel
Kaia
Cora
Hazel
Fiona
Finnuala
Moira

All shot down by dh. Well not really. Cora and Kaia were good but he likes Berkeley more. Laurel he likes but he knows a "hot banker" by that name. lol

LOL ... I'm rather partial to Bodhi (Bodi) *and* Fiona! :thumb

Berkeley is an awesome name, too, and Finnuala was on our short list with dd.

I personally thing that names of English & Irish derivation sound best with our last name, but I think dh wants something German this time ... we'll see!

I like it w/ a "Z" better, because I think it balances out the "X" in Axel. DH really wanted an "A" middle name so his initials would also spell out his NN which will be "Xan" or "Zan".

Favorite girl names:
Tallulah Grey N______ (NN "Lulu" and "Lula")

Me too, sort of!
Well, I figure I'll be joining you all once I have the confidence to call it! :wink

So, we also picked our names a long time ago, and while for some unforseen reason they may change (like me urging for a 3rd name), this is what we have settled with:

Justin Andrew [family name on DP's side], and I might push for Ingvar to be added, depending on how my Grandfather does in the next 9 months. My EDD would be 1 day after his birthday {April 23}, and he's currently in the hospital.

or...

Sadie Madeleine (currently a varient of my DP's middle name [Madeline], which will be legally changed before the birth to a male name), and I would push for Luna (cause I love the moon) or Norah (my deseased maternal grandmother).

Boy:

Quinn Herrick (we both LOVE Quinn, and Herrick is family name, DH is distantly related to the poet Robert Herrick)

Girl:

We have had the name Annika FOREVER (actually I chose it when I was about 17), and DH loves it. But I am starting to think maybe its been in our heads a little TOO long. Plus, our daughter may very well have very dark hair, and I am having a hard time picturing Annika with dark hair.

I also like Celeste and Helena pronounced Helen-uh, no idea on middle names yet.

We are pretty sure this is a boy, BTW.

My MIL hated all our name choices when I told her, but I didn't mind. I knew she would. She suggested Jessy for a girl. Hhhmm....not spectacular, but nothing wrong with it....but then I started thinking.....she used to have a cat named Jessy. I am not naming my child after their dead cat and I think it's hilarious that she would even suggest it! :lol The sad thing is, she was being totally serious, like it would be a nice tribute. I'm not saying how many, but I'll just say that she has ALOT of cats.

I haven't started thinking about names yet with this one...

Last time, our names were:
GIRL - Amari Rose J...
BOY - Reid Harlan J...

If we have a boy this time, his name will be Reid Harlan.
If we have a girl, we'll have to think up a new girl name. *sigh*

08-15-2006, 12:13 PM
I really like the name Reid Harlan. I have found that I'm drawn to names that end in "N", but our last name starts with "N", and I don't care for names that blur together like that.....unless you pause in between the first and last name, it just ends up sounding like all one word. Maybe I'm crazy. It will definitely sound good w/ a "J" last name, though. :wink

Even though the boy name we really like is Xander, his nickname will be "Xan" and that ends w/ an "N". Doh! :duh Oh well, I'm going to try not to let that bother me.

I love names! Why are girls names so much easier???? For a girl, I lOVE Ava but my sister told me about it and she's "claimed" it although she has two boys...is it legal for us to use it if we have a girl???? Thoughts??? I also like Lucy, Abigail, Emma and Lily. For a boy, the only one DH and I can agree on is Aidan...I like Joshua, Jacob, Andrew and Zachary but he hates all of those.

I'm not into the "claiming" of names. Especially when someone doesn't even have a child. What if she never has a girl? Or has one and then decides she likes something better? Personally, I think names are in the public domain. But of course you know your family dynamic and I don't so you should figure out what you are comfy with.

It's funny that most people seem to find boy names harder. I am just the opposite! I can think of at least 5 boy names I'd use but have trouble coming up with even one girl name! And DH already vetoed that name!:dizzy:

I really like the name Samara for a girl. My mom's name is Gertrude and we would like to find someway to honour her without actually using the name Gertrude (which she hates).

Girl:

Samara True (top contender right now)
Lucy
Danica
Susanna
Maia (I love this name, dp nixed as good friend has dd named Maia)

Boy:

Matias/Mattias/Matthias James (top contended right now)
Orion James (other top contender right now)
Jude
Graydon (dp nixed)
Skylar (dp nixed)

Still looking though. Borrowed a couple of books from work on baby naming and just collecting names. DP just vetoes names pretty much. I come up with them and 'present' them I got Kai by working on him for awhile though!

Here are the new ones that I found today (all girl names):

Janya - Sanskrit for "life"
Jaya - Sanskrit for "goddess"
Kerani - Sanskrit
Kirtana - Sanskrit for "praise"
Shanti - Sanskrit for "peace"
Dyani - Native American for "deer"
Kaya - Native American for "wise child"
Dara - Hebrew for "compassionate"
Liora - Hebrew for "light"
Diantha - Greek for "flower of the gods"
Drea - Greek for "courageous"

And my favorite.....
Ceyla - Greek for "moon"

Ceyla Irene = peaceful moon

Irene was my grandmother's middle name. She passed away in 1996 and I miss her very much still.

I'm imagining that you pronounce Ceyla as "SAY-lah"

Katrah...how would you pronounce this?

If I saw it, I would probably say kat-tra. But I want a name that Kate/y could fall from.

I think I might spell it "Kaitrah" (pronounced kay-tra) so people know it is a long a sound. But do I need the h at the end? I kind of like it, but kind of don't.

I've checked on every baby name site I could find on google and not one has this name listed! That makes me happy :thumb because I want something original, but not unusual. Although I think I might be borderline on the unusual part! At least being able to call her something common (Kate/y) will make up for it! And that's the other thing...I have these stupid little rules in my head...if I spell it Kaitrah, how am I supposed to spell Kate/y?!? Kait? Kaity?

What are your thoughts? Good or bad welcome!

grapejuicemama

I like Kaitra. I think it looks nice and shouldn't get messed up too often, though she will always have to spell it.

I've seen the name Jasper on a lot of lists for fave boy names lately. I don't know why, but I really like that name right now. But for some reason, I can just picture it on a cute little girl. :duck: Would it be too much of a stretch to name a little girl Jasper? My last name has 2 syllables in it, BTW.

Well, I have a feeling I may be in the minority on this one, but I kind of like it on a girl! But then, this is coming from someone who so far only has: Rory, Rowan, and Graeme on her girl list (with Charlotte as mn).

I was talking to sme neighbours the other night . They do missionary work in Africa, and they told me of an African name for a girl that I thought was pretty:

Shanara: God's blessing

Kind of sweet, but a little too close to "Shania" for me - lol. Anyways, I thought I'd put it out there. I did think you could shorten it to Shane, which I think is an ok girl name.

I love Kaya, think I'll steal it from ya!

I like Tessa and Rowan for a girl. Dh nixed Rowan.

I like Declan for a boy, Dh nixed that too.

Im clueless. Ive always like Josh, but dh nixed that one too.

Plus, the first three kids all have names that link back to a family member so I feel like I have to carry that on. And the name kinda has to sound "right" with the other three kids....

Everyone else keep posting, Im getting ideas from you guys!

Here are the new ones that I found today (all girl names):

Janya - Sanskrit for "life"
Jaya - Sanskrit for "goddess"
Kerani - Sanskrit
Kirtana - Sanskrit for "praise"
Shanti - Sanskrit for "peace"
Dyani - Native American for "deer"
Kaya - Native American for "wise child"
Dara - Hebrew for "compassionate"
Liora - Hebrew for "light"
Diantha - Greek for "flower of the gods"
Drea - Greek for "courageous"

And my favorite.....
Ceyla - Greek for "moon"

Ceyla Irene = peaceful moon

Irene was my grandmother's middle name. She passed away in 1996 and I miss her very much still.

I'm imagining that you pronounce Ceyla as "SAY-lah"

Ceyla Irene J...

I love your list. Ceyla Irene is beautiful. Btw, dh saw me looking at this list and likes "Drea". :)

It's so important to me to have a meaningful name but so far the family's favorite is "Ruby" for a girl so I might have to stick with a meaningful middle name :lol. I just can't find a girl's name that completely strikes me as "the one". It's driving me nuts. At least we have a while...

I have two girls now, Madeline Louise and Charlotte Hazel, so I want whatever we choose to 'fit' with the other names in the family. Our last name is one syllable, starts with a C and ends with a K. And is pretty common. :lol

I like the names Ivy and Irene for a girl, but I don't know if I like them with the other girls' names.

I have no clue for a boy. I've never had boys. I have no brothers. I just don't know what I'll do if we have a boy this time around! :dizzy:

2. Edith (Edie)

It's the name of an old family friend and about 3 years ago I thought if I ever had a girl, Edie would be a lovely name :) I also like Enid.

I haven't given names much thought yet (bad me!) but for a boy I like Vincent, Dominic, Francis (shortened to Frankie).

We are really having a hard time thinking of names this time around. However we really like Naiya (water nymph) for a girl, but haven't come up with a middle name to go with it yet. Our previous DC are Aiden Sky and Ilana Claire. When we named Aiden we didn't know anyone else with that name, now it seems like if he was going to go to public school he would have at least 6 in his class:irked:

Okay, for our someday-children:

We pretty much have decided upon Sophie Ann for a girl (Sophia technically, I think, for her official stuff). I feel odd spelling it the British way because part of the reason I like it is because it's Italian (as is my family, at least that's our one major identification) but whatever! Ann is both grandmas' middle names so while I like it better with an "e" (thanks Miss Shirley! lol) it seemed a nice tribute to our mommies :)

For boys, right now Nathan seems to be the top choice. I'd like a three-syllable name for the middle name (we have a harsh one syllable last name)... I'm thinking Forrester, Emerson, Benedict... that's still VERY up in the air! But then again, I'd better check to see if I need to do a saint's name (we're Catholic)-- I've heard that in fact it doesn't have to be and the kids pick their confirmation name from the saints. That way we'd leave them more good options, right?

Rosanda
Birdie
Sebastian
Bruno

My son's middle name is my dad's name, and my daughter's first and middle names are after my mom and sister ... makes me feel like I have to use one of my dh's family names for a middlename this time around -- aack! Does anyone know any variations of "Barbara" that are nice?? If it's a boy we can include his family by using dh's name.

Well, everyone around me is convinced that we're having a girl this time. They all say they have that "girl feeling". I'm starting to feel inclined to agree since I suddenly have the most incredible sweet tooth, just like I did with Ayla. With Mason, all I wanted was protein/meat, but now I am eating the strangest things. I've gone from being a total healthnut to downing two bowls of Fruit Loops in the morning, craving pastries dripping in butter and sucking on hard candies all day long. I actually fell asleep last night dreaming of Jolly Ranchers!

Anyway, back to names-DH said this weekend that he wants to name our daughter London.

London.

I think I like it. I'm thinking London Skye W.... I want the middle name to be something simple and celestial. Ayla's mn is Star and I'd like to tie the two together like that, ykwim?

What do you guys think?

I would adore the name Jane for a girl. I have always loved it. Unfortunately, my husband's last name is Bond and for obvious reasons, that won't work. So we're using Jane as a middle name... Zipporah Jane. I love it. However, I think we're going to go with Ziva Inari for our first one (provided she is a she). I love names from other ethnic origins. We're Messianic, so we want the names to have some Hebrew in them (first or middle) but other ethnic names as well. Ziva is Hebrew and means brilliance, Inari is Japanese and means successful one. Our boy names are Jaden Bryce- Jaden means God has heard and Bryce means fast moving or Asher Nathaniel- Asher is Hebrew and means blessed or happy and Nathaniel is Hebrew and means gift of God. I have a fat list of names at babynames.com

My DH and I have been tossing around Inanna lately. We both really like it, but are afraid of people mispronouncing it...do you think kids would make fun of it in school? We certainly don't want that, either. It's pronounced EEE-nah-nah. We'd call her either Ani or Noni. It's a Goddess...Queen of Heaven. I especially like it because it contains Anna, which is a family name, but at the same time our DD would have her own name.

Anyway, DH is still liking London. While I like it in some respects, I wonder if she'll get sick of hearing/seeing it everywhere. And also, I heard a radio advertisement for london broil the other day and that kind of made me say, "WHOA! Stop right there with that name!"

Ah, this old thread!

My girl names are still the same, but we're coming up with middle names. We love Edith and Margaret (edie and maggie). I think we could pair both with Grace as a middle name. Grace is our goddaughter's big sister. Our goddaughter is Natalie, so that would be lovely, too. Especially with Edith. Edith Natalie. We also like Edith Lillian. Edith is prime for a 3 syllable middle name, especially since we have a 2 sylable E last name.

We've also beefed up our boy list, since I'm talking myself into the fact that I'm growing a wee lad. So far, we love Henry, but it's too popular. I also love William, but my husband's cousin has a baby William, with our same last name. Ours would go by Billy, though. My dad was a Billy when he was a kid. We also like Oliver a lot. I could definitely see myself with an Olly. Ethan would be nice, but if we ever have our Edith, it'd just be too much e-th in the house. *tears*

And speaking of LOST stealing all the names. Margaret Grace would be a lost actor's name - Maggie Grace who played Shannon. She got killed off, though, and it's just the actor's name, so I think we're safe :thumb . bwahaha.

Speaking of LOST, Sawyer is actually one of the only boy names I really love. That and Dawson. Dawson probaby wouldn't work well with Mason, our DS, though. DH has nixed Sawyer.

Grant. I like Grant, also, but one of my very good friends married into Grant. So now her name is J*** Grant. Do you think it would be weird to give my son the same name as a friend's married name? I haven't decided.......

I knooooowwww I used to have Sawyer tucked away as a boy's name option... not any more! I love Lost and all, but they sure know how to take good names and use 'em up, huh?

I keep praying with each new hit TV show that none feature a breakout character with our chosen names! Hopefully now that we've picked them out, though, we'll feel that they already belong to the kid, and the TV is copying US. :)

Seriously, Sophie Ann and Nathan... erg, need a three-syllable middle name that goes with a single syllable jewish/german last name! I have begun threatening DH that I'll just name him after whatever's around at the time... Nathan Toothpick... Nathan Lampost... etc... or just use a girl name I love and don't get to use! Nathan Sylvia!

Actually, I kinda like Nathan Eliot... hmmm. That just came to me, which is dumb b/c I love the name Eliot... why didn't I put it together as a middle name choice?

One of the reasons we decided to find out the sex of the baby early was because we're going to spend the next six months arguing about a name! Turns out that our Little Fish is a girl, so that narrows it down a bit. Plus, her middle name is already established - I'm the last (quite literally) of my paternal line, so she'll get my maiden name as a middle name. It's Irish and begins with Mc, and our shared last name is very German, so we've got to find something that works with both. Also, my husband is stridently against nicknames. He thinks that if you name someone something, you should call them by that name. I think he's nuts, having been called by various nicknames my whole life!
Currently in the running are:
Brianne
Casey
Faye
Lily
Rory

I have to admit that she'll probably be a few days old before she gets a name. I know too many people who were set on a name, then realized that it didn't fit the baby and had to come up with a new one. So I'll have my list with me when I meet her!

we were *just* talking about this.

we have some serious limitations; baby's last name is italian, 4 syllables, and 11 letters. needless to say we like short and sweet. And the baby will have dual citizenship, and we have a bilingual home. so the name needs to be easily pronounced in both languages.

and to make matters worse, both my husband's name and mine begin with m. and we made the HUGE mistake of naming our daughter maya (which works with the other criteria but is a third M meaning if we DON'T use an M this time we're totally leaving the poor kid out.)

I like Xander Justice for a boy and Jaydin Liberty for a girl but DH thinks they are too wierd he likes normal names. I also came up with Emma Faith for a girl. he liked that one. who knows. you all have any thoughts on these?

I like Emma Faith, too.

we were *just* talking about this.

we have some serious limitations; baby's last name is italian, 4 syllables, and 11 letters. needless to say we like short and sweet. And the baby will have dual citizenship, and we have a bilingual home. so the name needs to be easily pronounced in both languages.

I know someone with this same issue--only German instead of Italian. They named their daughter Amy.

reading this thread had me bring up the issue with my hubby last night. I told him all the boy names I liked, and we narrowed it down to 2...but I can't decide

Brooke
Austin

Middle names will come at a later date

If it's a girl, she'll definitely be Tierra Casmire.

We have the hardest time with the name game, although we both agree that we want unusual names we usualy compleatly disagree on actual names so it keeps the list very short

for a girl we are still waiting to use Galadriel Lenore
and for another boy we have come up with NO prospective names:irked:

If we have a boy, we will likely follow the naming convention in boy's family, although I get all itchy being constrained like that. If we do follow the naming convention, our son will be known by his middle name, not his first. There are enough Toms in the family as it is. If we don't follow the naming convention, I have no idea what we'll go with.

If we have a girl, we have a first name picked out, though middle names are more difficult. The "make sure it's not weird" argument doesn't fly with me. My name isn't particularly common, but it's also not incredibly odd to our ears and I've met more and more Jocelyns as I've grown older. I've certainly had my share of folks who couldn't pronounce it (including extended family) and I got made fun of for having a "weird name". I never really cared, since I loved my name (and still do). My middle name is a family given name (one used by both men and women).

I kept my maiden name, but we will give any children my husband's name. That part is easy. ;)

Jocelyn is actually one of the names I'm seriously considering. I think it's lovely and classic, without being overused.

Plus, I can think of a couple of cute nicknames.

I think Joss is a cute nn for Jocelyn (not sure how it should be spelled).

Now that we know we are having a boy, we have been focusing on boy names. So far, we have: Chapin, Rex, Hadden, Beau, Hayes and Beck. We are tossing a few others around but this is our list so far.

Yep. I like Joss, Jocie and even Jolie. I love the name Jolie, but one of DH's friend's has a child named Jolie and we see them fairly regularly.

I like your choices of Hadden and Hayes. I've been trying to get Holden on our list, but DH says no way.

My parents called me Jossie when I was little. My friends call me Jos. My Dad's family calls me Josh, which I vastly prefer to a mispronounciation of my full name. ;)

shh, don't tell.
it's a big secret (actually the secret's out...)

for a boy we don't really have anything yet. I like Red but that's about it.

For a girls we have a definate. Dh and I both agree, and the reason it's a secret it b/c we know we're going to get some grief for it.
Diesel
We love it. The only problem is that our son's name is Axel, and it seems there is a auto theme going on, which is just coincidence.
However, I also like Onyx and Hazel. There are a lot of other pretty, feminine names I like but would never consider naming my kids because they're overused and popular right now.

Ok, you can laugh now.

I'd be the last one to laugh. I prefer unusual names myself and much prefer them (including your picks) to "names of the day." It is just really important to us that our kids have meaningful, unique, and not overused names. Everyone has different criteria but those are mine. Personally, I'd way rather my name be Diesel than one of the really trendy names.

Im peeking in from the March DDC you guys have some fab suggestions.

We are having a girl.. dh and I have mostly decided upon Ruby Mae...our other kids have really unique names so I am hoping this wont be common where we live..( I have never met a Ruby mae) So I am hoping its old fashioned enough to have not have a full swing revival just yet.. :lol

Thanks PeaceLovingMama! You hit the nail on the head- I was always one of 3 'Amanda's' in my class at school- and not that I don't like my name, it just has no personal identity attatched to it for me, it's just my name, how I'm called. My sister was 'Genieve' and to me her name is her because it's absolutely unique- my mom shortened Genevieve to get it. And it's not that I want my kids to be 'so original', I'd just like them to feel that their names identify them, that they're unique and mean something, maybe.

Oh, and I hate trendy things. Blah. trends are for sissies.

YummyMummy740 I think Ruby is a beautiful name. It was my grandmothers name, but for that reason my husband doesn't like it...lol. Not too common!

I am also really partial to unique / unusual names. (I think Diesel is a strong, sassy name that a little girl could wear REALLY WELL!) Most of all I have found that there is never much point in narrowing down the name choice too far during pregnancy because often when you meet the baby you will decide the name just doesn't fit. My second child was supposed to be named Cohen, but when he came out it just did not fit. And with this little babe, although I have some names that I love, who knows what will suit him/her when the time comes...

Queen of my Castle

Wanderinggypsy- so true. With #1 we really didn't know what we would name ds#1- although we had a couple names we liked. Right when he was born, though, even in my self-drugged state I thought- 'he's an Axel, this is Axel'- he came so fast (3 hrs45min), and was a fighter from birth-- even though it took us 4 days to actually commit to a name!! (and even though 'rocket' which we were jokingly considering would have been quite appropriate) We had to mull it over and make sure it was right- even though I knew- and it was so perfect because he was the firstborn grandchild/son so we also gave him both grandfathers' names as middle names- and how proud I am to call his name now!!
As well- personally I find it's so nice NOT to know the sex so you CAN'T pre-name your child- and therefore assign him/her an identity before they enter the world- somehow to me being named is a rite of being born- and although that baby sure does have an identity and personality IN the womb it's not until they are birthed that they are named...weird? well, whatever. that's the first time I've actually 'verbalized' that, even though I've thought about it indirectly....
anyway...I think it's high time for my shower...

Zion is cool. I was crazy about the name Xavier for a while but then a lot of people named their babies that, and insisted on mispronouncing it, which kinda ruined it for me. Since half my family is french, and Xavier is typically a french name, hearing it prononced EX-AY-VEE-ER just grates on me. But pronounced properly, it still ROCKS OUT in my opinion.

Not from this ddc, but i love this thread. You guys have so many cute names picked out. If we hadn't already picked out names i might've stolen a few for my list. Oh well , there's always the next baby.
So far for a boy we've picked
Lucien Kai or Mason caleb ( leaning toward lucien)
And for a girl
Lelaina ( leina or lane for short) can't figure out a middle name, but we want it to start with M

It seems like a strong name that a boy and then man would wear well.

Thanks :) "Ardent" means passionate, and the forrest of Arden is a famous place in Shakespeare... I am going to keep thinking about and Nathan, try it out with my family... I did hear that it's an Armenian name, so others have even heard of it :) See, honey, it's not THAT unusual :)

Resurrecting this because I feel like I have to confess to someone:dizzy:
Firstborn son named Axel.

If it's a girl, we're pretty sure to name her Diesel or Onyx.
It is' a boy, probably gonna be Payne (dh likes Slash).

I'm already planning my combacks:
So, do you guys like unusual/rocker/weirdo names?
'What do you mean?'
So, do you guys like weird names?
'No, we're just breeding wrestlers'

I still say Diesel sounds feminine to me, once I disassociate it from it's common usage.

I named my firstborn Kazimer, and we call him Kaz. A great many people will never understand why I couldn't have just called him Jacob or something similar like most of the other little boys born in 1999.

Anyways, he wears that unusual name like a pro, and he has never seemed to mind having to remind people of how to pronounce it. Strong name, strong kid... it just fits. It fit at birth and it fits now. So name your babies from your hearts. It will work out in the end.

I like Archer, Earnest, and Oliver. So far dp is only happy with Elliot, which I used to like, but not anymore:p !
Also, I don't want any names that end with an "n" because Finn and every one of his cousins on dp's side all have names that end in "n" (Ethan, Deven, etc....).
I actually love Archer and am hoping dp'll just go for it once he sees me push the baby out!
Btw Queen, I love the name Diesel! I would almost like to steal it, but can't really use it with Finn! :lol

lol, Finn and Diesel!
and yet I think I can use it with Axel! haha..
I love Archer. Great name! I heard another little boy at the playground called 'Carver' and thought it was kinda cool. It sounds to me if you were to go with Elliot or Earnest, your little family would be heading towards intellectual, softer, literature types, and if you chose Oliver or Archer it would be a bit edgier, still romantic but....let English! haha
always interesting to hear what others think, eh?
A girlfriend said to me tonight....'why don't you just like nice names? you're picking all these tough names cuz Chad (dh) is tough, but you're not tough...'
lol, so true, but I LIKE them!! And I can't think of anything else I want to call my child!!

And speaking of Arden- I really like the name, I think it's handsome and unique. A friends' father's name is Arden, and he's this tall, musing, slightly confused kind of gentleman, and when my friend told him we named our son Axel, he said, 'hm. well, I never really knew why my mother named me Arden'.
lol!

Bella Babe
11-27-2006, 10:10 AM
Well, the babe is a boy and we have decided on Bodhi Michael D---. We had a he!! of a time for a couple days because, little did we know, we both had different spellings in mind for Bodhi. DH liked, shudder, Bodie (No offense to those who like that spelling, but in TX I just feel like we would be naming a future cowboy, possible friends with Cody, Brody, Jody...NOT the name I have pictured.) I also felt like Bodie reminded me of Bodie Thane??? A christian romance novelist. Again. Not the hippie surfer name I liked. DH thought Bodhi was girly, I thought Bodie was girly.....
But Bodhi? The bodhi tree, etc. Very cool. Finally I won. After a couple days I asked him if he wanted to think of different names, because I sooooo didn't like his spelling. He said, "eh, I don't care. I like the name the best so whatever."

I love my easygoing dh.

So Bodhi Michael it is!
