oh, hi guys!!
so glad to see some korean mamas.
i forgot to subscribe to this thread so i had no idea you guys posted.
welcome to the mothering forum toraji, by the way.
i felt like the only minority here...
well, this forum seems little more diverse than the amitymama that i frequent.
anyways, let's introduce more about selves.
i am 30 (gosh, that sounds OLD!).
live in new jersey and had my first kid who is eight months now.
i stumbled upon these 'forums' when i was searching hi and low for some cloth diapers.
i grew up in the US most of my life but i am in very close touch with the 'roots' so to speak.
enough about me..
where are you guys?

I'm a big lurker on Amity but not too involved over there. I found Mothering because of CD also!
I'm 25, and DS is 13 mo. I'm 2nd generation, grew up in pretty much white communities, then I met my DH who's 1.5 and grew up in Chicago's Koreatown and here I am cooking and eating Korean food and watching Korean videos. Never pictured myself like this I tell ya!
I have not met a single KA mama who's AP around here. Pretty much all the Korean people here are international students (DH is a grad student) so I don't hang out with any of them. I wish I lived in a big city so my options were better, but maybe someday.
Nice to meet you! :)

hey sparkeze,
i went to purdue for undergrad and used to go up to chicago everyweekend.
feel like i met a old neighbor..
i know, when i was in highschool, i was a biggest twinkie with big hair and all. but as i grew up and went through life meeting more koreans and with more chances of experiencing korean things, i am quite different now.
i dated korean guys all through college but i married the last man i dated and he happened to be a taiwanese...go figure.

Strange how things turn out isn't it? I dated all white guys, with the exception of one Taiwanese guy (who was a frat boy!) until I met DH.
And I got married at 21! Looking back I can't believe I thought I was old enough to get married, but it all worked out for the best. When I got married I could barely speak any Korean and my ILs all only speak Korean!! Well, 1 out of my 3 SILs speaks English, but not primarily. But now thanks to all the Korean TV I've been watching I'm functionally fluent speaking.
So how are you planning to raise your baby? Do you ever think about how rough it will be for an AA man in the US? I really hope that I will be able to raise DS in a way that he feels confident about his status in society and not succumb to AA stereotypes. Whatever that means! But I worry...
