I had mine yesterday, my first pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage, so my ob always checks for heartbeat (visual) as soon as he can.
I had an ultrasound and got to see my little bean! So tiny, but I saw his/her flashing heartbeat, it was great! I can get excited now, woo hoo! I have another appointment (the "get naked" one) on the 29th. :thumb

My first appointment will most likely be in october. I used the same homebirth midwife last time and she doesnt really do appointments until you are at least 12 weeks. I will have an u/s at some point so I guess I will have to see an ob but I just want to do 2 appointments total. I wish I could just call and schedule an ultrasound. I am thinking I might make an appointment with an ob for around 16 weeks. My midwife works underground so to speak so she cant order one.

My midwife is my friend, so I see her all the time anyway :p
Officially, I guess I'll start around 12 weeks...

I havent scheduled one yet. Im planning on calling tommorow. Last time, when I knew this early, my ob did nothing by confirm with u/s (dont know why) and sched. me for the next month. He wouldnt run any tests or do bloodwork that early "just in case".:irked:
I transferred to a midwife halfway through and at my last annual found a new ob, one who said they do not put babies in warmers if mom prefers to hold baby under a blanket because afterall, she didnt want HER baby taken away at birth either! (LOVE it, the practice has three women, all who have kids and are adding a midwife this summer!!)

"Last time, when I knew this early, my ob did nothing by confirm with u/s (dont know why)"
To answer your question...money. They get to charge your insurance for an ultrasound.
Sorry if that sounded snarky. :innocent

My first app't is next week, Aug. 17. I won't quite be 6 weeks so I don't know if we'll see a heartbeat yet. But I hope so...

I had my first appointment last Friday, and will go in again Tuesday to make sure the BV they found is all cleared up. Then I have my first ultrasound on the 29th (for dating, since they wouldn't just believe me that I ovulated later than day 14... though I'm excited to have one to ease my worries that much more - I didn't realize I'd get to see the heart beating!). :thumb

I called this morning and will go in Aug. 31st. I'll be just shy of seven weeks then.
And yeah, I guess money was a reason for my last ob to confirm with u/s. I mean, bloodtest worked just fine with my first two. If not for that first u/s, I would have never known that my last pg. started out as twins. (the next month, there was only one).

I already posted that mine won't be until late Sept...well my first real, be seen by the doctor, have an ultrasound one. Anyways, I kept thinking that that's a really long time to wait, condsidering I've had 2 m/c, one at 16 weeks. So I called our OB case manager and explained it to her and she said she certainly understood that and would get me in as soon as I got my referral over to the OB clinic!!! And she said we'd go ahead and do a dating ultrasound, since we're not sure exactly when I'm due because I got pregnant coming off of BC. Woohoo for health care professionals that actually take you and your feelings seriously!!!

I have no clue! I have flippin Kaiser and no one's calling me back to set up an appt. I am diabetic and my regular MD wanted me seen right away because I am taking a medication that's not technically supposed to be used during pregnancy. I probably need insulin, and need it ASAP. I wish they'd call me back. :gloomy:

Had "get to know you" consult Wednesday with midwife.
Going to Primary Care Physician (whom I have never even seen before!) for referral Tuesday so insurance will pay my midwife!
Initial appt. with midwife scheduled for Thursday.
There's no way I could wait until 10-12 weeks, I am so excited to start seeing a midwife!!!

The place I'm considering using for my prenatal care, a birthing center, does not schedule first appointments until weeks 10-12. I thought that was a bit late...after all, I wanted to make sure all my hormone and blood levels are where they should be at this point, but she explained over the phone that since it's my first pregnancy, I cannot be considered "high risk" since I've never had any problems with a pregnancy before (true, I guess, I've never been pregnant before), so there's really no reason to see me before that time. I'm supposed to go on a tour of the facility next Wednesday evening...not sure about it...I guess going won't hurt.
I'm also going to call an OB's office that was recommended in the Tribes area of MDC...that OB (it would then be a hospital delivery...not sure how I feel about that) is closer to home. I'll call Monday and see when is the earliest they see someone.
I'm a little worried b/c I don't have any symptoms anymore really....I know they can come and go, but still...

I'm meeting my midwife at the end of August. I had the appointment made from my last pregnancy which ended in miscarriage last month. I just never considered that I wouldn't be pregnant again by the time my appointment time rolled around. And sure enough, I'll be about 6 weeks by then, which is far enough along for a meet and gree I.M.H.O.
By the way I'm so excited. My other pregnancies I had OB's and they treated me like a slab of meat. This is so nice! Already I've talked to my midwife on the phone and she's a real sweetie.

Are you doing a UP & UC?
Do you have a "check-up" that you do at home?

:shrug I dunno. I haven't even called yet. I don't see much need to go in during the first trimester so I'm thinking somewhere between 12-14 weeks I'll go in for the initial pap and chart history stuff. Though with my first preg I started seeing the midwife right around 5 weeks.

I haven't called yet. I don't see any need in going in until 12 weeks at least unless there is some concern. I am already on prenatals and such.

I had my second appointment last night, but it was the first with the woman who will be my midwife. And it was great!! There are two midwives in the practice that I need to go to to deliver at the hospital I want, and I randomly chose one for my first appointment at around 4wks. It was a really bad experience, and I had a very rough time. So I decided to get over the awkwardness and ask to see the other midwife. She's so great! The appointment last night was completely opposite to the first - she took the time to ask how I was, listened to me, talked to me like an equal, was reassuring and explained things - and all this after having delivered two babies in the middle of the night before and working a full day. It's such a relief, and a relief, too, that she seemed to think everything was looking good based on my hcG counts & symptoms. DH was able to come, and he really liked her, too - said he feels like she'll take care of me :love

I saw my midwife yesterday -- kind of odd because she is a very good friend and my midwifery partner and business partner. But it felt right and I can't imagine going to anyone else. I had already done my own bloodwork and stuff, but we went over my previous births (lots to talk about there!) and what we wanted. We want to prioritze cord blood collection as my son has a genetic disorder that will likely be helped by stem cells in the future. So we talked about the logistics of that, and communication and stuff. I will go back in a month or so and let everyone hear the heartbeat (we're not doing an early ultrasound or genetic testing or anything else like that, but I will conceed to a doppler check for the baby's heartbeat). It was fun!

We've been searching for a hb mw (it's not legal in our state) since I found out I'm pregnant. We *finally* talked to one last night on the phone! She comes very highly recommended by several aquaintances and we really, really liked her on the phone. She seemed surprised that we were looking for a midwife so early (I'll be 7 weeks on Saturday), but my dh wants everything lined up *yesterday!* We'll meet her face-to-face in a couple of weeks and make our final decision then, but I think she's the one.
The first actual prenatal appointment (with her or someone else) probably won't happen until I'm closer to 12 weeks, I suspect ... that'll be the end of September. I think I'm okay with that ... we'll see in a couple more weeks!!

Just had my first *real* appt (as opposed to the consult where we just talked last week).
I gave a sample of urine AND they had me do my own strip test for various things, can't even remember what the ones were that were negative/normal. But I had slight ketones in my urine (sign that I am not eating!! ketosis is the basic state of starvation that the Atkins diet encourages people to attain) Yikes!! It was slight, and probably had something to do with it being a morning appt and I had only had a smootie so far.
She did a Pap, and ended up causing a tiny bit of spotting, the only even tinge of blood I have seen yet. Even though I rationally *know* why I spotted for 10 minutes (like 3 drops), it still bothered me. I'm up tight, huh? :wink
She took 3 vials of blood and said I could call on Monday for info.
And I made another appt for a month from now, so I guess that puts me at about 10-11 weeks.
ETA: I LOVE my MW--I already feel very comfortable with her!!

I just had my first appointment on Monday (8/14), and I was almost 6 weeks at that point. I had a pelvic exam, swabs, bloodwork, urine, etc., and she went over my history.
My next appointment is in the second week of September, and we'll probably do an ultrasound then.

Yay! I had my first midwife appt this afternoon, and it went great. I'm so thrilled I'll be under midwife care this time, so far it's met all my expectations as to what midwife care is about. With ds #1 I had a ob who ran a clinic with 3 other ob's at the hospital, and patients see whoever's on duty. (In Ontario Midwifery is a government paid service, and you can choose where to give birth)
My midwife is so cool; she's a mom of 3 daughters, soft-spoken, middle-aged, wears attractive 'natural' clothes (hemp/cotton/linen i assume) and she has dreads! I was showing her my first attempt at charting and she noted that one weekend I wrote 'at Hillside-hot,tired' and she told me she was there too, and her husband is one of the Hillside Folk Festival coordinators-- how cool is that??? Seems like she shares some interests and is the type of person I would like as my birth coach and prenatal caregiver-
She took so much time with me, about an hour. She was totally cool with my son who wasn't feeling good today, and of course I love the whole midwifery care standards and ideals. Informed choice, respect, etc.
I'm just over 6 weeks- it's so great I was seen that early and not brushed off! My dr. hasn't even returned my call (2 weeks) informing him I got a + hpt!

My first appt with a family doc here at the clinic is 8/24. I am excited to hear the heartbeat but not excited to defend all my beliefs to this doc. I am currently trying to find a midwife for the rest of the prenatal/birth care but for now she is all I have.
