Hi all, I've lurked here some, posted a little, but I knew this would be a good resource for finding like-minded moms.

I just moved here from the Seattle Wa area, and I am just floored by the culture/everthing else difference. I took a job within my company and moved out here with my son, we had to leave my husband behind, because he's stationed in Wa with the Navy.

So, I've found some whole food stores in Melbourne, which made me feel better. I need friends too, I'm so darned lonely. Everyone around here seems so conservative & not quite my pace, so are there any cool Mothering moms to maybe get together with nearby?

Also, I read on another thread about the lack of concern for recycling and stuff. I guess that answers my questions I was going to ask the management at my apt. about when I get my recycling bins. Are there at least recycling stations to do drop offs at?

Hi Pixi!

I used to live in Satellite Beach but have since moved to St. Louis (MO) for school and have decided to stay here while dh is in grad school. My parents still live beachside and I know they have recycling service pick-up at their house. I think that the Satellite Beach library may have some recycling bins you can drop off at, but it's been a few years and I don't remember exactly.

Whenever we go home to visit is is a bit surprising (in terms of how conservative it can be there.) St. Louis isn't nearly as conservative, but is a lot more so than the west coast.

My sister was looking into a Le Leche League meeting in Melbourne, but that was a few years ago; maybe you could meet some like-minded mamas there? You could call the hospital and see if they have any groups set up, or even try a kiddie class. Wickham park is usually pretty busy, also - you may be able to meet some mamas there during the day.

I hope this helps some! We lived on base when I was little so there were always plenty of at-home moms and kids to play with - it seems like it takes so much more effort now to find people to play with. Good luck, though! I wish I could help some more. Please feel free to PM me if you need some more ideas or even directions! Heidi
