Hi Everyone,

I'm going to beat a dead horse in here so let me start by saying sorry. I've been searching the archives for answers, but I haven't really found answers for my specific questions. If anyone can share their knowledge/experience I would be forever grateful!!

1. What age did your dc begin seeing a dentist?
2. Can fluorosis be reversed?
3. Do you brush your dc's teeth 3 times per day?

I ask these questions because I've done endless research on flurosis due to the fact that ds has started to have some light brown staining on his front top 2 teeth. It appears that he is in the beginning stages of fluorosis. I have only given him filtered water but we have now switched to spring water. I feel so guilty because I thought our filter took out the fluoride of our water, but I guess not.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thank you so much!!

Sorry, I know nothing about fluorosis but my kids started seeing the dentist at 3 years. The only fluoride they get is at the dentist and, now, at public school during the day.

And, no :tsk I need to be more proactive or strict or cheerful about making them brush their teeth frequently.

May I ask how you know it's fluorisis? We just came from the dentist who said that it's very rare unless you're in an area w/ naturally high levels of fluroide in the water.

Sorry, there's nothing you can do to reverse fluorosis. I don't think changing his water now will really do anything. I believe flurosis effects the developing teeth. Fluoride is in a lot of products actually. You can brush your child's teeth three times a day and it will not prevent, nor should it cause fluorosis.
Are you sure it's fluorosis?

i brush my sons teeth twice a day. he first saw the dentist a twelve months. he had pits in his teeth....which decayed by 14 months and where crowned at 16. i dont know a lot about flourosis but do know it causes pitted teeth and pitted teeth can be remineralized to protect from decay.

I'm not positive that it's flurosis. I was just guessing based on information and pictures that I had seen. I brush his teeth at least once a day, sometimes twice. Up near his gumline, the teeth are light brownish so I figured fluorosis was the culprit. It sounds like I'm most likely wrong....

...does anyone think it could be cavities forming?

I don't want to be a bummer but I would see a pedi dentist sooner rather than later. Our ds had some discoloration and our pedi blew it off because he was so young (under a yr.). I worried anyway and finally took ds to a dentist at 14 months and sure enough it's decay. The dentist said that if we had waited it would have been an entirely different story--not a good one. :( If it is decay I think it's better to catch it as early as possible.
