Hi mamas, my mom owns an organic/wildcrafted aromatherapy store, and I requested this info from the woman who supplies her products. She is a master herbalist and aromatherapist, and I hope some of you can appreciate/use the info!

Some good oils for pregnancy and their properties

Rose (Morrocan)

Uterine relaxant
Softens ligaments
Helps pubic bones to expand and regain elasticity after birth
Slight analgesic
Good cardiac tonic

Neroli

Facilitates easy breathing
Increases oxygen content in blood and brain
Antiseptic
Aids confidence
Anti-depressant

Lavender

Stimulates circulation
Analgesic
Calming
Antibiotic, antiseptic, antiviral, antiinflammatory
Relieves headaches

Nutmeg

Strong analgesic
Calms CNS (central nervous system)
Alleviates anxiety
Increases circulation

Clary sage (NOT to be confused with Sage)

Increases uterine and muscular function
Mild analgesic
Uterine tonic- facilitates bith
Euphoric
Calms lower part of spinal cord

Geranium

Best oil for circulation
Nourishes uterus and endometrium
Contractive- pulls together muscular tissues
Good for function of whole reproductive system
Emotionally uplifting


Recommended ways to use the oils


Choose 1 or 2 of the oild and blend 16 drops (combined) with 125mL (1/2 cup) of base oil (almond, jojoba, grapeseed etc.) Use this blend for uterine or back massage in pregnancy and/or in labour.
Place 5-6 drops (combined) of oils in diffuser with 2TB water.


Special blends for after birth/breastfeeding

For infection after birth

Blend 20 drops lavendar, 10 drops yarrow, 10 drops chamomile.
Add 3 drops in water for sitz bath.
Soak gauze in 1 pint water with 3 drops of blend, apply topically.
Mix 5 drops of blend with 1 tsp base oil and massage on stomach/lower back to boost immune response.

For cracked nipples

Mix 5 drops calendula oil per tsp (5mL) of base oil blend (90% almond oil, 10% wheatgerm oil). You can make as much of this as you want in this ratio. Massage over nipples and areola.

For plugged ducts/inflammation

Make a blend of 15 drops German chamomile, 10 drops lavender and 5 drops eucalyptus.
Place 10 drops of this blend into 1/2 cup chamomile tea, use to soak fabric for use as a compress.
Apply compress 2 times a day for 5 days.
If inflammation persists, mix 30 drops in 2TB oil and rub over breasts.

To increase breast milk

Mix 15 drops fennel OR clary sage OR geranium with 2TB base oil.
Massage over breasts, under arms and in cleavage.
