My BF is FREAKED OUT about the baby moving. I mean, full blown panic attack if he knows the baby is moving inside of me. And to feel it... FORGET ABOUT IT! He literally shakes. His heart rate triples. He breaks out in a sweat. Now, sure, he's not happy about the fact that we're having a baby, but it's the MOVEMENT that he is actually afraid of. He also has a phobia of blood being drawn, and he has said he considers it very similar. It's the realization that we have insides. There are other phobias similar that I've known he has. It's not just psychological due to fear over the pregnancy.

But, while he's trying to deal with his phobia, I'm trying to respect him and not mention movements. I really want to be able to share the movements with somebody!!! Everybody shies away, and I'm miserable as a result. The baby has only been still for two half hour periods all day long. So, I'm constantly reminded that I have this little "secret" inside of me, that nobody even wants me to share with them.

So Sorry. :(

You can share with us. I know it is not the same thing, but I'm always so excitied to feel baby move. Very cool.

I hope he can deal with it later 'cause when you get closer to being finished you may actually be able to SEE baby move very easily. -But, don't tell him that.

Whoa.
You can share here, Mama! I am so happy for you that your little baby is getting bigger and stronger. I don't know if this is your first baby but I remember after my son was born how AMAZING it was to see his jerky little newborn movements and to remember those same movements in my belly.
Maybe, just maybe it would help if you would rent some newborn care videos or even better, if your boyfriend could be around someone else's newborn so he can make the association a bit easier.
I did use to know a pregnant mom who used to feel weird while she was pregnant and feeling the baby move...she said it was like having a little alien inside of her.
But...she is now a mama of 2 and loves both of her kids very much.
Some people don't really connect with their children until they are born...the baby is a little anonymous to some until then.

I often wonder if it freaks out my dh too. He doesn't mention it if it does but it seems like he's a little weirded out by it. I don't know about an extreme phobia, but you know, I can kind of understand it. I really get a kick out of it myself (no pun intended!). I think it's the neatest thing ever! But it is a little weird and like some alien movie. If you think about it, this baby is an extention of yourself so of course you don't think its gross or weird. But, I really don't think my own boogers are gross and I don't think my farts stink like another persons do :lol . No seriously. Just another observation...

Well, it freaks my dog out, and she won't snuggle with me anymore. But that's not exactly the same ...
