On Sunday my Great Grandma Grace died. :crying I am soo sad, yesterday and today has not been good for me at all. She was almost 87 and very ill, at least she went out peacefully in her sleep. I am sad that I didn't get to say goodbye and that a generation in my family is now gone. It was so neat to have 5 generations alive at once: my great gram, my grandma, my mom, me, and then my dds. In the car yesterday driving to my grandmas house (2 hrs away) I got to have a really nice talk with dd1 about death. I was open and honest about it with her and she seems to understand, she compared it to when the trees lose leaves and die. It was really sweet. Tomorrow we are going to the funeral. Anyways, I just needed to share....:crying

Oh Rocketmom - so very, very sorry.
It sounds like your grandma was a very influentual person in your life and I'm so sorry for her loss.
You really helped your dd by talking to her about this loss. I remember when my grandma died helping my son thorugh the loss was very difficult, but he learned a great deal. Please come hear and share as often as you need. We're hear to listen.
You'll be in my thoughts over the comming weeks. This is going to be a difficult time on you.

I'm so sorry to hear. I know it's no comfort, but at least she went in her sleep. Peace to you and your family!

I grew up with having great-grandmothers in addition to grandmothers....I never really thought much of it until I was older and realised it wasn't something a lot of people had...I treasured knowing them and I have many wonderful memories of them....
sadly I now have none living...it is such a loss...
My last living grandmother died a week after abigail was born...I didn't get to say goodbye either and it is so haunting....I loved my grandmother I am still so sad....
write down all the memories while they are still fresh...better yet try and get her fam to tell you stories..

I am very sad to hear about your loss....
I too had 5 generations on this planet: ds, me, Dad, Grandpa and G Grandpa. He died a couple of months ago. I did not know him, he has not really been with us for quite a while. It was special though, having him here. About a month before he died my father went back to Philadelphia and went to visit him in the nursing home where he lived. He said to him "Grandfather, I just wanted you to know, I'm a Grandfather." It was very special for my Dad.
God Bless you
