My son's birth story can be found at

(he's my second kid, now two).

My question is this...........

While I was laboring, with each contraction, some blood tinged amniotic fluid would gush out. When I finally got up from the bathroom floor to go to the tub, there was a decent sized puddle of fluid/blood on the floor.

Also, when my son was born, the tub ended up being this blood tinged birth soup.

I'm wondering.......what was all that blood? My midwives were never concerned that I was bleeding badly, and my placenta looked fine. Maybe I'm being dense, but what would be bleeding while you are laboring, bleeding enough to tinge 150 gallons of water??

Did you ask your midwives? They were there and saw it firsthand, so they are probably the best judges.

My guess would be bloody show from cervical dilation.

I would guess bloody show. You can have quite a bit of it. And even a little blood will tinge water. And blood mixed with fluid looks like a lot mor than there really is.

thanks dear mamas..........

I *kind of* thought that, tara.......about a little bit of fluid looking like a lot.......

but, for some silly reason, I always thought the term "bloody show" refered to the mucus plug. :duh

In thinking about it being blood from my cervix, that would make sense, because I dialated really quickly, I went from 3 to 10 in about two hours.........so I guess that does make sense there would be some bleeding from that.

Thanks for the insight!

I wonder if that speediness contributed to the prolapse I ended up with..........

I would agree - blood from your cervix opening. I had this in major amounts this last baby....it freaked me out actually. My mw said I had a "vascular cervix..."
