Had anyone heard of united healthcare and what do you think of it?

It's a big healthcare provider.

I've heard some complaints about it, at least in its poor coverage of chiropractic. Nothing exceptional though, just another big health insurance company. Can't say anything good about any of them.

i dont know much else about them except that they are a big health care provider. their rules may be different depending on what state you live in, what plan you're on, etc.

they *might* have a preexisting condition clause that includes pregnancy. the UHC plan from my old employer had that, and it basically means that if you havent had prior insurance for a certain period of time (i dont remember if you had to have prior insurance in the month before getting pregnant, or how much time before) but that if you didnt have prior insurance, they wouldnt cover the pregnancy.

you may want to call their customer service number and have the type of plan handy and ask them all your questions. depending on how much cobra costs, it might be better for you to do that for the rest of your pregnancy (ie, UHC wont cover it, your provider doesnt accept UHC, they have limited chiro care, wont cover homebirth, etc).

I hope that his doesn't come to late, but avoid united at all costs. I myself am a chiropractor, so I deal with alot of insurance companies and United is by far the worst when it comes to what they will pay for, and they will find every reason in the book to not pay the claims resulting in big bills for you. Colleagues in the medical and dental fields have all said the same thing. I practice in IL and am sure that there are some variances state to state, but my colleagues throughout the midwest (IL, IA, WI, IN & MO) feel the same way.
