My just-turned 4 year old will have to have one molar filled (chewing surface and back inside corner.) The dentist will use nitrous.

I want to use the Peace/Calming and Roman Chamomile oils from Young Living to ease her stress (mine too.) Are they effective if I apply them before the visit? We have a 30 minute drive.

Or should I just apply them at the office when she is laying on the chair?

I may have missed the answer to this on the archives, so feel free to point me to the thread if I missed it!

Thanks!!!

edited to add a non-dental question...my 4 1/2 month old hates!!! riding in the car, can I use the Young Living Oils on him to calm him for long rides? I figure there are mommas here who understand the car problem too:)

I think you can use oils whenever you want. ANd reapply them regularly. I used them on my dd about 20 mins before the actual dental treatment. She hated them, but I think they actually helped me a bit :)

They are mentioned a few times in the archives, but they don't have their own thread. You may want to do a search just for "oils" or "peace" in the archives, and tell us all what showed up ;)

Thanks, Smilemomma!!!

We actually got through most of the appt without nitrous.

I used lavender oil (both my girls love the scent and I know it's a calming essence.)

My 4 year old was the biggest worry, as it turns out, they couldn't get the nitrous mask to fit her! She did great until the dentist used the little air gizmo to dry off the tooth. She freaked out (this is the one step I didn't describe to her in advance.) When she calmed, we got a temp filling in.

Her 5 year old sister made it through with flying colors (two places in front on top where she has crowding.)

So, we've got to schedule the appt for the permanent work on the 4 yr olds molar. I'm hopeful it will go well.

I love my dentist and his staff. They are absolutely great and very patient!!!! He rarely refers to the pediatric dentists here (they are all for using the papoose & nitgrous on every kid who walks in the door.)

Thanks for your help on this board.!

Do you apply these neat or in a carrier oil?

Thanks-
