View Full Version : DC area - any interest in a get together?

Hi there,

Especially now that the weather's getting so nice, I for one am getting cabin fever! And as a new SAHM without any other SAHM friends in real life, I find myself getting lonely, too. There's only so many hours a day I can/should spend hanging out here!

So, anyone interested in a DC area get together? Coffee/tea? Play date? (Although my 8 month old ds doesn't play with others yet, he loves to see other babies and kids!)

Let me know if you're interested, and we can go from there!

:hippie

oops: edited to clarify, I'm not looking for SAHMs only, but I was thinking it would be nice to do something on a weekday, although I'd be open to doing something on a weekend as well if that was the consensus.

anyone? anyone?

Jane that sounds great! I am in D.C. (Northwest). Aalicia would have a blast.

Cool, our babies are just about the same age!

Bumping to see if there's any more interest...I'm hoping the weather gets warmer again, I really want to get outside! Maybe a trip to the National Zoo? I still haven't seen the new pandas!

I wouldn't mind a get together either. I live in Northern VA. I think it's so neat that everyone who has replied to this post has babies born within a month of each other. I've been dying to find some AP mom and babies in this area. Weekdays are good for me.

Sorry to be so slow getting back to this: let's plan!! I threw out the zoo idea, what do you all think of that? Advantages: it's free, it's Metro accessible, it's got pandas!! Disadvantages: our babies could probably care less. :D Any other disadvantages? Alternative suggestions?

How about some time next week - what are the best days/times for you?

Another idea is the DC Children's museum on H and 3rd.
Adavantages: metro accessable (union station), kid friendly, air conditioned (if it EVER gets warm here), great fun if anyone has preschoolers.
Disadvantages: cost $7.00, kids under 1 free, again babies not too interested, moms not too interested :shrug

I actually went to the zoo last weekend and surprisingly Piper was into a couple fo the animals. Her favorite was the giraffe, second favorite was the rhinos. As far as the Pandas, this was the second time I went in the past year and both times, you couldn't see the Pandas. It was just a crowd of people starting off into the Panda cage forever. But I really like being outside, so I'd be up for the zoo again...or the museum which I've never been to. I hear the Air and Space is good too. It would be nice to have some time outside on a blanket too so Piper can move around. She gets really ancy when she has to spend a long time in the sling or stroller or carseat these days. Maybe a picnic?

Thursday is the best day for me, but I could rearrange and do any day except Tuesday.

Can't wait to meet you all.

Anybody home? Anyone want to go to the National Zoo, say week after next? (I'm seeing a lot of rain predicted for next week on weather.com). How about Thursday the 8th? We could bring our lunches and picnic on blankets somewhere. Here's the zoo website for information and motivation :D

What say you?

I can be there on Thursday. This will be Piper's first venture out on the metro.

Anyone else?

I think winterbaby and I will try to attend....with our respective dd.

I would love to go! (Thanks Jane for the PM letting me know about this.) Thursdays are great for us... no conflicts in upcoming weeks. Fridays are also OK.

My dd and ds will probably be more inclined to watch than play, but it's always nice to get a change of scene!

Count us in. :)

So are we all on for Thursday 5/8 at the National Zoo? I am so excited to meet other moms and babes in this area. And it does look like most of our little ones are about the same age! YAY!

I don't want to be the weak link in the chain  but with twins, I'm a little restricted as to times that will work for both babies! Late morning (say 11 or 11:30) or late afternoon (after 3) works best for us. Otherwise, I'll have two cranksters on my hands. If everyone else wants to meet at a different time, we'll try to work around that too!

Since I've never done this before, should we all provide our email addresses and then figure out details via email instead of this thread, posting our final plans on the thread so others can attend? Whatever works for the group. I know I see email many more times throughout the day than this site and plus we can all respond together. My $.02.

I'll start. I'm at karen_shore@earthlink.net

I can't wait!

11 am would work for us - why don't we meet at the main entrance and go from there? Woodley Park-Zoo is the closest Metro stop, on the Red Line.

11 works perfect for me assuming no work comes up for me -- I work part time from home and the work is sort of unpredictable. My email is kelly _ dillon @ comcast . net without the spaces. Can't wait.

Great! We're all set for next Thursday May 8th @ 11am, at the main entrance to the Zoo!

Looks like most of us can come. Thanks so much Jane for initiating this get-together!! :)

After looking at the long-range weather forecasts last week and suggesting May 8 because of the rain predicted for tomorrow, now it looks like the weather tomorrow is going to be dry and the weather next Thursday has a 60% chance of rain. :( But knowing that things can change, let's just wait and see what it turns out to be - we can make the call the night before if it looks too yucky for an outdoor gathering. Does anyone have any rain-date suggestions for an indoor venue that's kid-friendly and preferably Metro-accessible?

Plans still on for this thursday at 11? Dd and I are looking forward to coming :)

We're still on!

11am this Thursday, meeting at the main entrance to the zoo (Conneticut Ave).

Note - for those driving, park near the top if you can. Otherwise it's a loooong walk uphill to the main gate!

If it's raining, we don't have rain date plans now. We'll probably have to re-schedule in that case.

Looks like we may be in luck - the weather forecast is saying cloudy, mid 70s, but chance of rain only 20% !! I'll check the forecast again Wed. evening and we can make a final call then, but for now it's a go!

I'm planning on bringing my lunch; I hope we can find a flat area to throw down some picnic blankets and eat and talk in between looking at the animals. :)

tomorrow, thursday at 11am at the main gate on conneticut ave in dc. I will unfortunately be missing it since my daughter has been throwing up all day. You can usually recognize MDC moms by the slings...

not yet, but keep an eye on the tribe area...the dc moms and the annapolis/baltimore moms each seem to organize something every 3-4 months.

in case anyone sees this, winterbaby is running a few minutes late...she'll be there, has dark hair in a bob, and a chubby 10mo girl. She'll be with a tall thin blond woman, also with shortish hair, and a latino-looking 10 mo boy.

so try to look for them, 'k? I sent her because hanging out at my barforama house won't be much fun today. :)

Found 'em!! :p There were 5 moms, 6 babies all told - and I forgot to take a group pic! Drat.

Clarity, I hope your barforama baby is feeling better - I was sorry you couldn't make it.

It was a lot of fun; I'd love to try to get together again soon!

I haven't checked this tribe forum in a very long time - I'm bummed I missed the zoo trip. It sounds like it was fun. Does anyone want to try to get together again in June? The National Arboretum might be a nice place to gather for a walk and picnic - it's beautiful there. What do you think?

I'd love to visit the National Arboretum! I've read great things about the recent rehab. Maybe it would inspire me to do something about my weed-filled garden! (Or maybe it would just make me feel inadequate. :LOL)

Anyone else?

Hi all!

I'm a new mom and new MotheringDotCommune poster. After a month straight of rainy, cloudy weather, my 2 1/2 month-old and I are climbing the walls! So I am very interested in an outing--especially those planned for a week day and metro accessible (hubby's got the car).

Is the Arboretum on the metro? I'd love to see it, and taking a walk would be great...Let's hope the sun joins us! This week's weather still looks wet. Maybe next week? Any day works for me.

Oh that sounds good - nature...

Must be time for my monthly outing :)

here's the website

oooh it's free, and "ample free parking".
looks like Metro would be difficult but not impossible. Lakins's Mom, I'm sure one of us could do a pick up. PM me if you want, with your whereabouts.

How about next week, Wednesday 4th?

I don't know what I was thinking...next week is one of my busiest weeks of the whole year. I would love to come, but couldn't do it until the second week of June. But don't move it back just for me :D

Hi everybody! :wave I and ds are in the area as well - we live in Northern Virginia, just a few miles from the Key Bridge. We'd love to get together sometime!

Also, our local FNL (Families for Natural Living) chapter has organized a food co-op. We order monthly and are always looking for new members. The pick-ups are, for now at least, at my home in Arlington. We also go do fun stuff fairly frequently and would love to have any or all of you along :)

Hope to meet some of you soon - is the Arboretum thing happening? It sounds like fun!

I just checked the weather forecast and although today and tomorrow look really nice starting from Wed. the weather looks to be pretty rainy. Again.

Any interest in going tomorrow? I know it's short notice....
