Just wondering if anyone has scheduled their first prenatal appointment? I'm going to wait a couple more weeks before calling to schedule mine. I've been taking prenatals for awhile now (since July-Aug)and this is my 4th pg so I'm pretty sure I know everything that I should or shouldn't be doing. Is there any good reason to go early? I've never had a high risk pg and the only reason I may be considered high risk is because of my age (will be 34 in a few weeks).

Hello!

I go to an OB, and the first appointment is with a nurse. They just go over all the details and paperwork, give lots of fliers and samples of vitamins, etc.

That appointment is on Nov 13th. Our first appt. with the doc is on Nov 30th, and that's when we'll get to see our little one for the first time on ultrasound!!! I can't wait!

My first appt. is Nov 7th. I am going to my regular midwife and OB office until 20 weeks (stupid-a$$ insurance!!), then I will switch full-time to my homebirth midwife.
We debated about whether or not to consent to the 7 week ultrasound, I know the exact time of day that I got pg!
I finally agreed to it because we have had an early miscarriage and I want to make sure that we have a heartbeat.

We are still arguing about the 20 week ultrasound! To be continued...

I'm in the process of calling some midwives to set something up. Looks like we'll have to see a CNM at a birth center or clinic for my prenatals and then switch over to a homebirth midwife because of cost. I'd like to wait a couple of months to see anyone but I'm going to go in early because I haven't had a pap in a few years, which worries me, and I need prenatals and if I can get a prescription so insurance will pay for them, jolly.

I haven't called my midwife yet. My first appt. has always been around 10-12 weeks. I don't see any reason to be seen earlier this time :).

There is a big midwife shoratge here in Vancouver, so I called the midwifery practice that I used for my last 2 births to set up an appointment right away, like pretty much 15 minutes after I got the positive pregnancy test. No way I want to risk getting stuck with an OB (can't have a home birth that way). My first appointment is November 21st, I'll be 9 weeks along. Too early to do a heartbeat check but it's always nice to just go in and chat with the midwives. Kinda makes it feel more real, you know?

My dr is the only ob in our town so as you can imagine he books up pretty fast. As soon as I found out I was pregnant I called and have my first appointment on the Nov. 20th I wasnt high risk with my daughter but have miscarried once since then. I would rther go early and find out nothing is wrong then go later and have something happen.

I am not sure. We're new in town, and I don't know who I want to see yet. I imagine that we'll not be in until about 8-12 weeks, though. I'm sure of my conception date (charting), and while I'm tempted to try for an early ultrasound for my own peace of mind (previous miscarriage), when I had one the last pregnancy (my son's pregnancy) the ultrasound created more questions and worries than it answered. So, this time I am not going to havean early ulreasound; therefore there is no reason for me to get in early to see anyone--so I'll take my time and discover who I really want to see. Sorry, I rambled on and on...

I am using the same mw as my sis. She came over my house and was here for 3 hours! It was really wonderful. Ususally she waits until 10-12 weeks or so but since I had a miscarriage before we thought it would be great to start early. I really feel this one is going to stick as I am feeling a little queasy and have more symptoms, last time I had none at all. From now on she will come over every 4 weeks. She gave me a paper and I have to go to a clinic to get my blood drawn and then they will send her the results.

Just booked first appointment for 7th. Didn't mean to go so early but was booking dh an appointment and sort of "by the way..." got one with the midwife. That's good though as had lots of problems being granted homebirth last time so more time to convince now.

I have my appt with the nurse on the 16th. They said they'd set up my first appt with the Dr then...

Right now I have a call in to my general Dr. I called my OB this morning to say I've been bruising a lot this past week. They recommended I call my main Dr. So I am waiting for a call back from them about if I need to come in or not.

I called my midwives yesterday and they told me what supplements to be taking and that I should call back around 12 weeks for my first appt. They also said I can come in at 8wks if I get impatient. :)

I just found out today to my great surprise that I am pregnant. I think I'm due in july but I'm not sure. With my other children I waited until 12 weeks I think, but I am going to call tomorrow with questions. I am taking some medication I am not sure about and am not taking vitamins....... I'm still a whirling from the news......:dizzy:

I had my first appointment yesterday. It was really just to go over my history (again), get prenatals and ask questions. Since, it's been 7 years since I've done this, I forget everything you should and shouldn't do. Plus, I also think some newer recommendations have come out since 1999.

Anyway, it was weird going over my history. One of the boxes to check was for infertility. I did go through fertility treatments in 1995 and 1996 and was blessed with triplets. But, now that I'm working on #5, it seems weird to think about me being infertile.

AND, I got nervous because of all of the warnings/precautions they feel they need to take because of my "advanced age" (36). But, really, I think I'll just be nervous for the whole 9 months until I hold this little one. Actually, I'll probably be nervous for the next 18-20 years!! :lol

I am still trying to find a midwife or birth center for this baby. We have two places to interview. Hopefully we will be doing that in 2-3 weeks. I am in my 6th week right now!

I haven't called yet. I've been on prenatals for a long time, I know what to avoid etc... and I didn't want to go in until we could hear a heartbeat.

I did start getting nervous last night and talked my husband into giving me an ultrasound. He's an OB/GYN resident. He wants to wait until 8 weeks for that (right after thanksgiving for me--unless I can talk him into earlier). So, I'll call for an appt after that I guess.

my mw is my friend, and she was coming over for tea on the day that i happened to test. so i left the test prominently displayed in the bathroom and she freaked right out, like i knew she would. she's such a birth junkie. so i suppose my first appointment was an hour after i tested...

Emma's_Mommy- :( That's horrible. Make sure to complain to your care provider also.

DH and I interviewed a CPM today, and we're making the final decisions (although it looks like a great match!) I imagine our first official paperwork/blood pressure/ history appointment will be within the next two weeks, and then not again until January at some point.

I am going in on December 12th for my first real appointment and ultrasound. I should be around 7 weeks then. I called and was in the office within hours of getting a positive test though. I needed to have my hcg and progesterone levels checked. Its a good thing, because my progesterone was on the low side, so I got started on progesterone supplements the next day. Hope that they help make things all sticky for the little one. :wink

My first appt is Dec 14th - I will be 9.5 weeks and we hope to hear the heartbeat. I probably would have waited till the following week - but we will be in FL visiting my family for x-mas/solstice so we bumped it up to the week before...

I go for my first doctor's appt on Wednesday, I'll be 9 weeks then. Our family doctor delivered our 2nd child. The high risk OB at the hospital delivered my oldest due to extreme pre-e. But was seeing my family doctor until then. I love our family doctor, he awesome!!!

I go in on Monday.. I have an ultrasound and then my first visit. It will be nice to see how far along I am.. I'm thinking between 7 and 8 weeks but am not sure so the ultrasound will help verify that for me. Plus I feel really nervous this time around so I am hoping to see a heartbeat to relieve some of my anxieties.

I interviewed the homebirth midwife and we decided to go with her but that was weeks ago and I haven't set up an appointment yet :bag: I just don't see the point this early on. I'm not doing an early u/s, I'm going to refuse a large number of the blood tests, I eat healthy, I've got prenatals that I've been on for months now. I guess I will call sometime after Christmas and make an appointment. I think I am putting it off a little because she said she likes to see her moms every 3 weeks and that seems a little much to me. I was hoping to go less often with a mw but we clicked with everything else.

Haven't scheduled any appts yet, we may be moving mid pregnancy. I really am not too anxious to have a prenatal visit though. I am healthy and low-risk. If I find out we are moving in Feb or March I may see if I can wait until then to schedule my first visit. I don't see any reason unless a problem comes up to schedule a prenatal with an OB or midwife that won't be at my babies birth.

Neverrrrr! :lol We are using a midwife this time around, and we're interviewing the first one next Thursday if the appointment I suggested is okay with her. We will probably interview at least three before I decide who is the best fit.

I'm going to see my midwife on the 7th. I will be 7w1d. I'm not sure what to expect though, since I had an OB the last time. The appt. will last 2hours so I'm guessing an exam(no U/S yet)bloodwork, lots of questions, etc.

Yesterday. I met with my new Doctor. Wow, she's great. A midwife in doctor clothing. Her standard tests are almost none. No routine ultrasounds, okay with no doppler. And she does homebirths.

Amazing.

Other than the assitant taking my blood pressure and weight, no testing at all yesterday. I'll complete week six today. She said my lack of nausea is not a concern, since the baby hasn't implanted yet. That is will come soon, but eating lots of protien helps. She recommended 100 grams of protien a day. She loved my vitamins and suppliments, and didn't change a thing.

I'm so happy. I wouldn't have left my unlicensed midwife, except my employer says no maternity leave this time without a doctor. She might even be able to certify my last leave, from the records, and then I'll get what should have been paid two years ago. Amazing. If she can recover my salary for the last leave, that will more than pay for the cost of the homebirth.

Doing many happy dances.

I go for my 1st appt tomorrow (12.6.06) I can't wait! My hubby is all excited and we're both hoping for an u/s...me mainly because I want to make sure everything is where it is supposed to be... my mom had an eptopic b/n my brother & I and I have been having on/off pains in my side (by my ovary) so I just want to make sure the baby is actually in my uterus and my mind is playing tricks on me! (I also want to see how many are in there :o ) I've been having crazy twin thoughts/dreams and I just want to see! My little boy is saying its fricken TRIPLETS so I sort of want to verify that it's NOT. (of course, if it were, I'd deal--but I'd really like to know like--YESTERDAY if I were).

So. I'm all giddy... hubby's all excited!! I could not ask for more!

We've scheduled one for Sat the 16th. We were going to go with this awesome homebirth midwife, but DH is just too skittery. We made an appointment at a birth center she told me about though, and I think it will be a good compromise.

I had an "interview" last night with a midwife we heard about...we liked her immediately, though, so it turned out more to be a "get to know each other" which was so nice for two hours.

Heartbeat appt at 11 weeks I think!
