We currently have Verizon and I HATE them... they've really screwed us around and I just don't like the company! SORRY :innocent

We have DSL which is $30 per month (they told me the cheapest in the area I live) and local calling ONLY for $65? a month

Does anyone have Cavalier or Cox? Do they work well?

THANKS MAMA'S!

Wow, my Verizon phone service is unlimited anywhere in the US for $30 a month. I can't believe you pay so much-- I live in NJ, where do you live?

They don't have DSL where I live; our only broadband option is cable, so that's what we have. It runs me about $50 a month, which is way too much, but it's the only thing I haven't been able to bring myself to give up...

I live in MA and I have Verizon for phone, $50/month unlimited US (with all the stupid fees, the plan is actually $40), though I'm thinking I don't need that and I'll cut it down to something where I pay long distance. I dumped Verizon as internet because my DSL was constnatly up and down and in order to get them to do anything about it I had to spend hours on the phone with the stupid CSR who just wanted to wipe all my internet explorer settings when I know that isn't what the problem is, it sucked. I now have Comcast. More expensive, but at least its reliable.

ETA - actually this thread reminded me that I want to go to a lower service, I don't need all that unlimited crap - so I'm going to try the $30 package and see if it saves me.

Well . . . I despise Verizon too, but that's what I have. I did switch to Cavalier a year or so ago, and would NOT recommend them. They completely lied about the fees. When I signed up, there was a monthly charge that sounded great, but I was shocked when I got my first bill--they added on all these cockamamie fees that added up to over $60 (on TOP of the monthly fee). So I switched back to Verizon after a few months. Cavalier had awful customer service, too. I decided Verizon was the lesser of two evils.

My monthly bill is about $20 (it's a $14/month plan where I get 4 free calls a day, then pay for any extra calls I make, which usually works out to about $5/month). My long distance is through a company called ECG, about $5/month (I'm not joking, the fees are only about $1, and calls are 2 cents/min., and I rarely make long distance calls). My DSL is $17/month, but next week I'm moving to an area that doesn't have it, so I have to get FIOS, at $30/month.

Speaking of DSL, Verizon is now offering it at $14.95/month. Check out their website. So way cheaper than the $30/month they told you. If you stick with them, I'd switch to that DSL plan.

I've never heard of this $14 plan.. I wonder if we're able to get it. I'll have to call and ask.
As for the DSL we USE to have the $14.95 per month and then moved, and it changed to $30. They said because of the area we live thats the cheapest :irked: I am so sick of them :(

I guess reading from everyone else's replies it just depends on where you live. We are in VA and it seems like the prices are more :(

Wow, we have Verizon and like other's have mentioned the prices are way cheaper.

Something like $18 (including taxes & fees) for DSL.
Around $25 (including taxes & fees) for basic phone.

I have Verizon too, and pay about $48 total a month for local phone service, plus DSL. When I signed up, DSL was about $30, but then I kept seeing ads for much less, so I called them about it. They claimed the cheaper rate was for DSL, for for some version of it that's not as fast :rolleyes I think they just try to discourage you, because they know you can get the cheaper rate. Well I took my chances and got the cheaper version and it's been the same for me!

As far as local calling service, I know at first they said the cheapest plan was like $50 or something. I was like: There MUST be something cheaper! I told them I simply wanted a DIAL TONE, that's it. I kept pressing the issue and finally they admitted there was a plan for $26 or something. And you know, I bet there's an even cheaper one, who knows.

I'm in NY state - maybe it's different in my area, but all I know is that they will not volunteer their lowest pricest! It's pulling teeth - but keep pulling!

We have SBC, and the DSL is $14.99 per month, but the catch is that you have to have local that includes extra services, plus sign up for a long-distance plan with them (the cheapest is $2/month plus $.10 per minute). So, it's about $50 for DSL + local (plus the long distance plan we never use, I just use a calling card with a local access number). Still, that's not too bad of a price.

We do not have a home phone because there is no DSL in our area. Instead we have Verizon wireless and insight cable internet. We're really happy with our internet except that it's $40/mnth because there is no competition. Cell phones are cell phones. We pay 60/month for those things. I hate it but I'd be lost without my cell and high speed internet!

We currently have RCN for cable TV, Internet, and phone. However, we're switching back to Verizon for our phone service -- it's about the same monthly cost ($23 including taxes, etc.), and our phone service has been down FOUR times in the six months or so since we switched to RCN. Twice, they had to send someone out to fix the box attached to our house, and every time, I had to spend 30-45 minutes on the phone with them "troubleshooting" the issue before they'd even try to fix it from their end.

The only thing I'm going to miss by going back to Verizon is Caller ID -- I like Caller ID, but I'm not willing to pay the $7.50 a month they want for it. Not only is that way more than it's worth to me, but I'm also offended by the idea that they charge so much for a service that costs them almost nothing to provide. (Caller ID was included with RCN.)

We haven't had any problems with RCN for cable TV and Internet -- we've been with them for several years. It's just the phone service that stank!

T-mobile switching to Cingular at the end of the month and Time Warner Roadrunner. No landline and no cable tv.

We have Cavalier (I'm in PA). We are generally happy with the service. We use them for both our phone and DSL and my bill comes out to about $75 including some long distance charges. This cannot be beat!

I say 'generally' because we did have some trouble with our dial tone about a year ago and it took them 3 weeks to figure out the problem. We were without service the whole time and it was all their fault. Then they messed up our billing because of it. They didn't charge us for a few months until I brought it to their attention. We were very frustrated then, but all in all, the price is great.

Also, I've noticed that friends have had similar problems with other carriers (i.e. Comcast) so I think it may just be a phone provider thing.
