View Full Version : 24 weeks & breech... too early for concern?

Hi, everyone! I'm wondering if anyone has experience with encouraging a baby to turn out of breech position. I had my 24 week appointment a few days ago and found out the baby is transverse. (Actually I already knew that from the movements I could feel... I guess it was the doctor who found out this week!)

Anyway, I'm wondering a) is it too early to even be concerned about helping the baby turn? b) what are some effective ways to get the baby to move? and c) will the fact that I've been put on bedrest affect baby's position?

(Bedrest is due to uterine "irritability", which we want to keep to a minimum because I have a cerclage.)

Thanks for any wisdom you can share!

Short answer: Yes, it is too early to worry. Even on bedrest

I had that exact same situation with my second baby (bestrest, irritable uterus and all) and she did turn a few weeks before birth. When she got to about 35 weeks I started doing the spinning baby exercises. Specifically the downward facing dog yoga exercise, followed by back arching on all fours (forgot the name of that one) exercise. She turned within days. :)

Good luck to you, and hang in there!

Yes 24 weeks is too early to worry about it. I am 26 weeks and this little guy has been breech half the time, and head down the other half. I am hoping he settles for head down in the end!
My first baby was breech and she never turned: but there was never any concern about it until I was around 36 weeks along.

Yes it is too early. My last baby remained breach until about 31 weeks and then she turned. Arghh that was painful when it happenned.

Wouldn't worry.

My DD turned at 39 weeks after one trip to the chiropractor.

Don't worry now! I know of babies that have turned right before birth!

I always kinda thought that a LOT of babies are breech around that time, or even that they switched position freely at that time. I know DD didn't turn until around 33 weeks. I don't think you should worry-- your babe has TONS of time left to turn.

Yup, way too early. My own son turned at 34 weeks, but a friend's son turned at 40 weeks (all 10lbs of him). Some babies don't turn, and that's okay too :) . A breech vaginal birth is nothing to worry about if you're informed and educated.
