That can be shipped to Canada cheaply?

I've searched through many threads and every site that's been recommended to others has its stock sold out. I've e-mailed companies and nobody seems to be getting more in stock in time. (End of January.)

I can't spend more than $60 in total (Believe me, I would put ourselves in debt to do this but we are in debt, my hubby's job just crapped out and we literally have barely enough to live off of without the added expenses of the hyperemesis meds I have to take and we're working on just keeping our home.) for the pool and shipping. :(

Does anyone know of any other sites that are in-stock for fairly cheap?

Or even one that sells secondhand pools? I'm comfortable with buying a secondhand pool and bleaching it and using a birthpool liner.

Or does anyone know anyone who'd be willing to sell theirs?

I'm getting kind of desperate. I really want to have a water birth at home, but everything seems to be trying to prevent us from doing so and my tub is not enough. I have scoliolis and am uncomfortable with the slope of the tub at the best of times and it's obviously not deep enough. :gloomy:

I am going through a similar situation. I can't seem to find a pool to birth in!!! I did find one on e-bay....it's big, but then my midwife says bigger is better when birthing in the water. You want to be able to really and freely move around. I labored in the aquarium pool that the previous post referenced. It's big, but not big enough for two adults to move around in freely....

I would look on e-bay!

I JUST found this (http://www.qualityinflatables.com/56494.html) pool. How did I miss it? I've been searching for WEEKS! It's 90 inches in diameter and 22 inches high AND it has an inflatable floor! How great is that?:lol

To the Canucks, I'm in BC and the total (American I'm guessing.) with shipping to Canada (Shipping is $34.35) was $62.30. Not bad seeing as the price without shipping hovers around there on a lot of the "birthing pool" sites for the fishy pool.

(The large fishy pool that I see everywhere that's either too expensive or sold out!)

But just a bit larger (90 inch diameter) and 22 inches deep which isn't bad. I have the room for it in my living room (Which is pergo over concrete so no weight issues!) and I think it's big enough for chunky ol' me AND my DH very comfortably! Not concerned about the hot water tank either.

The 'Electra' is another name for the Sevylor, it also has an inflatable bottom, and it would definitely be your best bet to replace the round fishy which is out of stock everywhere. Here is another link for it: You'd have to ask them their rate to ship to Canada.

I would be EXTREMELY hesitant to use a pool with a NINETY inch diameter and a 311 (!) gallon capacity.

I say this because the wider the surface area, the faster the heat will dissipate and the faster your pool's temperature will drop. Also, the massive capacity (311 gal.!) will DEFINITELY tap out any home's water heater, and you won't be able to fill it.

All of these inflatable pools are the same depth at 22"-24", so you need to get one that is of a smaller diameter and a smaller gallon capacity. The round fishy is 100 gal and 60" diameter and the Sevylor is 72 gal. and 60" diameter. Either of those will work well.

I used the hexagon fishy in my first birth, (200 gal. and 72" diameter) and we ran out of hot water from the water heater, and the water in the pool cooled very quickly. So, for my next birth, I used the smaller round fishy and everything was great! Whatever you do, just remember to turn your water heater up a week or so before you're due.

I actually have an extra fishy pool (the large one http://www.brandsonsale.com/itx-56493.html), that we purchased for our recent birth. I never opened it, as we already had our pool from our last birth and just wanted a backup in case the old one sprung a leak or something unexpected. I didn't want to get caught scrambling for a replacement and since they're so cheap, I figured we'd just keep it for the kids. But since its the "ideal" birthing pool, I can't hang on to it if someone needs it for a birth... I'd feel too guilty. PM me if you're interested... I'd sell it for the cost I paid (just for the pool) plus shipping costs to you.

I ordered the Sevylor Electra pool & with shipping it was less than $52. I should be getting it within the next week or so. I actually heard about this brand on this forum & it got great ratings from HBing moms!

Hey y'all... I just wanted to say that I got the large, octagonal fishy pool from Brands on Sale (cost round $47 with shipping to NY) and it was GREAT!! I loved the inflatable floor, and it was very roomy and great for both my DH and me during birth (I'm 5'8" and DH is 6').

Also, my MW recommended we cover the pool with a plastic tarp or shower curtain while filling it and then up until I got in it (I was only in it for the last hour and a half of labor/birth), which we did, and we also put a down comforter on top of the plastic tarp (shower curtain was too small as the fishy pool is big!). It held the heat fairly well, though we did do some baling and refilling after I got in it as it had been filled by that point for about four hours. It seemed to hold heat very well though!

I talked to my midwife and she said that she doesn't feel comfortable with the pool size even though *I* feel that my place is big enough. (Again, hot water was not an issue! We're hooked up to a massive heater that does a whack of places all at once with no issues regardless of consumption.)

So back to hunting for the fishy pool. The one posted on the link to the ismartshoppe site doesn't ship to Canada! Neither does the brandsonsale site which was sold out.

Thanks for the added suggestions with the other pools, but with pools priced around $50 the exchange rate alone means that I can barely afford it without shipping. $60 give or take a few dollars is LITERALLY my limit. I've scrimped and saved over a couple of months to get that much, and even then it's cutting into my cloth diaper money.

I found the fishy pool!!!! Along with a lot of other supplies that I need for my upcoming (God willing) waterbirth.

There's something to be said for living in England - with each birth there, I was easily able to rent/hire a birthing pool locally!

I just have to chime in and say that I bought the La bassine pool and just tried it out last night... It is so comfy and I love the height and the shape... the oval shape just makes it SO cozy and it is not too big nor too small, I think I wouldn't be as comfy in the round pools....
I also like that it takes less water to fill than the other pools... we have a small water heater and I was able to fill it at the perfect temp in around 25 min and one tank full only....

I hope that I'm not getting off topic, but I did want to mention that I ended up ordering the La Bassine this afternoon.

After talking about it with my mw and viewing different options online, this is the pool that we decided to go with.

I do hope that those of you who are looking for a cheaper route find a pool. You'd think that with the demand for labor/birth pools-especially the aquarium ones- that they'd make enough to sell all year long. How frustrating!

Yes I too just ordered the fishy one from ismartshoppe, I have looked all over and that is the best price for the size that i could find. It did show a different pic, but lists the dimensions 76x71x25 - so it has to be the larger hexagonal one. With shipping it was just $33 (us shipping). It does take a lot of water, but being a first time mum I should have enough time to fill it, even if I have to wait for the hot water heater to fill a second time! :wink
