I have horribly chapped lips, in part I know it's because of the weather but this happened with my last pregnancy. Anyone else experience this? I know I am not drinking AS MUCH water as I should be but I am drinking far more than I do normally because I am just always thirsty.. maybe I am dehydrated but if I drink anything more I will be chained to the toilet. :lol

I am always thirsty too! Ok, I do live in the desert so that's kind of normal, but I've definitely been way more thirsty since getting pregnant. It's like my throat is constantly parched. I've been using the chapstick like crazy but it hasn't really been working.

I am addicted to carmex.. it's like the only thing that feels like it's working for me, I need to keep a constant coat on my lips otherwise I start picking at them and then they bleed.. not a very good example for ds3 who I constantly tell not to pick.

I just realized last night that my favorite "chap stick" has peppermint oil in it. I know you are supposed to avoid peppermint oil during pg so I guess I need to find a new kind. Yuck! I really love this stuff!
Yes! My lips are super chapped now. They were really bad during my first pg no matter how much water I drank.

I looked it up today, and everything with peppermint oil should be avoided for all of pregnancy. I think it stimulates the uterus. I think I used stuff with peppermint oil during my first pregnancy, but I don't want to take chances!

I am parched! I remember this distinctly from my other pregnancies too . . . constant dry tongue. I hate it. Plus I have sinus problems and am a mouth breather, which totally doesn't help. Anyway, I feel your pain. Drink drink drink!
Maybe hard candy would keep your mouth watering.

I made my first appointment today and the nurse said to keep drinking fluids like I have been.. I need to wean myself off the Dr. Pepper.. really I am being good.. one or two a day when usually I drink way more than that. I have been drinking lots of water which is uncommon for me but I feel constantly parched.. she also told me peppermint tea was ok to drink for nausea or peppermint candies. So I don't know if that has peppermint oil or does the same thing but I know mint settles tummies.

A little bit of dried peppermint (like the tea) is ok from what I read, too. It is just the stuff with the actual peppermint oil that is dangerous.

I am so into the Dr Pepper right now and whenever anyone in my house goes out right now they ask if I want any:lol
And I hear you with the chapped lips but I hadn't really thought about a reason, or pregnancy related reason anyways. More water, or Dr Pepper, whatever's handy!

I got myself down to 1 can of DP a day now and 1 cup of tea.. still more caffeine than I am supposed to have but the rest of the time I am chugging down loads of water. My lips seemed fine for a few days but are totally chapped again.. I need something else for them I *gasp* ran out of my carmex! Maybe this time I will try Burt's Bees.. I didn't like the stuff in the pot but will give the stick a go. :wink

Carmex and a lot of lip balms contain petroleum and/or petroleum products which (or so I've read) aren't the best for promoting healing. Something like Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm doesn't contain petroleum, although it does have peppermint oil. I just use shea butter or cocoa butter straight out of the tub.

I'd say I agree with you on the petroleum containing products but seriously I have tried everything under the sun (not while pregnant but throughout my life) and the only thing I have found that does work and heals my lips is carmex. It helps to peel off the raw part and protects it at the same time. After a day of using it my lips aren't chapped anymore but I also must continue to apply it. I've had stuff with cocoa and shea butter in it and didn't have much luck but never used it straight out of the tub. I have some burt's bees but it doesn't contain peppermint oil and it feels nasty and tastes disgusting. I only use it in a pinch and it really doesn't work at all. I will look into the cocoa or shea butter as I do like those as a lotion for my skin. :)

I know a lot of people who use Carmex and absolutely swear by it and would never consider using anything else.
Remember those nasty chapsticks a long time ago that were so waxy it was like rubbing a candle on your lips? Ack!
Good luck in your search. I hate hate hate having chapped lips.
