I'm so excited. I got the name of 2 LMs in town that were highly recommended and have appointments with them this weekend for a consultation. I don't really know what to ask though? This will be my first homebirth and my first natural birth. Ds's birth was very medicalized...an elective induction actually. I am definitely set on a homebirth, there's no question there. I guess I just don't know exactly what to look for in a midwife? What kind of things should I be looking for? What kind of qualifications, etc?

Here's a great thread with tons of questions.

Basically I'd just see that you mesh with her on some level.

Awesome thank you! I'm finally getting truly excited about being pregnant since my blood test today came back positive (I had fears that 5 HPTs were wrong lol) and now I've got meetings set up with the LMs. It's like everything is feeling more real now :D

:bouncy How exciting.
for me I wanted to know how often she transferred people and for what reasons. I wanted to know what if any drugs she kept with her and reasons she would use them. I think those were my two biggest questions. I know I had a lot but those are the first ones I can remember.

You could ask about their transfer rates, and what the procedure would be. Would the midwife come with you to the hospital? Do they have a doctor they normaly work with? Also you might ask what infant ressucitation equpment do they bring to a birth? My midwives were certified in infant ressucitation, and of course happily we didn't need that a bit, but it was comforting to know. And you just want to see if you click with the MW. I'm very excited for you!

Glad this was posted with the links to previous threads. I just printed out a two page list to take with me to my first appt/interview tomorrow. Thanks!
