We are toying with the idea of moving from the West Broward area up to downtown Lake Worth. Housing seems to be a much better deal. We still need to roam around the area and get more of a feel for the place but I was wondering if any of ya'll had any experience with this neck of the woods. I've heard good things about the downtown area being revitalized into an artsy, activist-ish funky town. :thumb
It would mean an extra hour or so (!) to dh's commute, at least until he could get a transfer, so we are wondering if it'd be worth it.

If you are still considering Lake Worth, it is a very interesting, funky little town in transition... they call it for the newly-weds and the nearly-deads:p The real estate is Very affordable and ripe for fixeruppers so if you don't mind tearing out 30 year old lime green shag carpet, you're in the right market! There is a thriving gay culture downtown, nice park on the water, a breeze almost year round, 2 minutes for the beach, and much less rain than you get further west (most of which used to be swamp 10 years ago).
The bad news is that if you go two block in the *wrong* direction, you end up in a pretty depressed neighborhood with a lot of single males hanging out on street corners on a sunday afternoon. Much of the East coast seems to be this way though.
If you want to talk with the locals, take a Friday evening off and come down to Lake Avenue: the restarants and shops are all open to the street and next to the library, there's usually a free concert. you'll meet lots of couples on dates and families with slings and strollers who would like nothing more than to tell you about their city:D
Good luck! Jenni
