Has anyone bought you a cool gift as a "congratulations! you're pregnant!" type thing?
Baby brain has struck again, I had some cool ideas recently as gifts to give friends when they find out they are pg, something for the mama. Now I remember, oh, none of them.
Has anyone received anything nice or purchased something for a newly pg mama? I really hate that I can't remember anything anymore. I really need to write things down....

Here are some things I put in a gift basket for my pg friend
Mothering Magazine!
Lotion for her tummy
Slippers in case her feet swell
A nice insulated cup with matching straw to keep her hydrated
Hard candy to suck on in case of morning sickness
Some Dr. Sears books.
When my SIL got pregnant, I sent her some lotion, bubble bath, bath gel, and a bath poof, pregnancy tea, a couple of pregnancy books, and The No Cry Sleep Solution . Wish someone would do something nice for me, like that!

A body pillow. Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. Childcare for any children she already has. So she can get some rest. Candles and relaxing music. Bringing over dinners occasionally for those nights when just the smell of food can make you...lose it....a journal to record her pregnancy thoughts and feelings.

A prenatal massage, depending on your budget. I like the pregnancy journal idea. A gift cert. for a pedicure. Film and a photo album/scrap book with a page for each week/month of her pregnancy.

You are so thoughtful! I second the gift cert for a pedicure...one of those ones where they take the time to massage your feet and calves. It feels so great! Or, if budget allows, a prenatal massage to work out some of those knots and stretched muscles. A bit of pampering can go a long ways in the sanity (or perceived thereof) of a pregnant woman! The books mentioned previously are great too. Maybe offering to come over once a week to do the photo shoot of the growing belly. It's so easy to let time speed by when you yourself are pg!

Yes! I have started purchasing 2 things for sure for every woman I care about who finds out she is pregnant. All other gifts are secondary:
1. A subscription to Mothering Mag
2. (If and when they discover the babe is a boy) A copy of the book by Paul Fleiss: What your doctor may NOT tell you about circumcision.
Great question, BTW.:)

What wonderful ideas! I haven't ever gotten anything for anyone early in pregnancy, though I don't have many friends who are having babies. It is a wonderful idea. I know I would love to receive something nice. I'll have to remember that next time I hear the good news from someone.

A girl friend from high school just found out she's pg, & i have a feeling i may be her only chance of an AP or natural parenting advocate in her life. we live several hours away or i'd just offer to loan her my whole book collection.
As it is i'm going to mail her a package, with some red raspberry leaf tea and a book, but i'm *agonizing* over which book, since i can barely afford one (which i'm considering getting used, lol!). It's between Birthing from Within, Ina May's Guide, or Sears' Baby Book or Pregnancy book. I think I'll include one and then a "reading list" of others - since she has directly asked me for recommended reading.(Even tho i'd do it anyway, lol :p )

I didn't receive anything for me when I was pregnant, but I know what would have been most appreciated (this time or last time)!!
FOOD - home cooked, ready to go in the microwave, in individual serving size containers!
And most importantly - CONVERSATION! Oh, gawd, where did all my friends go?:(
You know, those things would be nice after baby is born, too!
