I'll be moving there next summer (yay!) and would love info on pediatricians, schools to live near and schools to avoid, hospitals, etc. :) We'll be going to visit sometime later this year but in the meantime I'm trying to learn all I can. :)

I just moved from CC in September. I'm a teacher so I can mostly tell you about schools and where to live. You want to stick to the Southside area, in the Mireles Elementary School attendance zone if possible (that's considered the best elementary school in Corpus). I didn't teach at Mireles, but we lived in the area. There are a lot of newer homes and some still being built there as well. We lived in the area off of Lipes, just south of Staples, called Barclay Grove which was right near Kaffie Middle School. The schools in Corpus are not the best, so try to live in the best school zone you can. There are some other good schools too, but Mireles is really at the top to be honest. There are a ton of families w/young kids in the area (because of the schools there). Also right near there is the new hospital Spohn South and right across the street they are just opening (it wasn't open when I left but it should be by now) a branch of the Driscoll Children's Hospital so there are lots of options and amenities there. That's really where I'd recommend looking for housing. We rented a home but I know our home sold for under $150K after we left (the landlord sold it). It was a 3/2 with a 2 car garage, fenced yard, and about 1600 sf. So it's pretty affordable. If you are looking for a nicer home in the same area just south is a neighborhood called King's Crossing which is also zoned for Mireles Elementary but the homes are more in the $200-$350K range.

Hey!

We also used to live in Barclay Grove in the southside of Corpus. I think it's a great neighborhood for that area. Ultimately we left CC and moved back to Portland, OR. CC was just too small, conservative, and HOT for us in the end.

We live in Portland, right outside of CC.
