I already went last week. I had a miscarriage last time and they wanted to test my hormone levels since I was low on progesterone last time (probably because I was going to miscarry anyway) I go back next week when I'll be 7 weeks and have an u/s to see the heartbeat. Hopefully after that, I won't have to go as often.
My last pregnancy, I didn't go until about 11 weeks.
mine is Jan 10th, Noah's 4th birthday, and my doggie's 1st birthday! :D I must say that I have never waited that long for an appt, at least it doesn't seem like it. Maybe it's because I didn't really figure out I was pregnant until I was 8 weeks with either of my boys. Hmm.

Not yet. I still have to find a midwife, and although I know I definitely don't want an appointment until at least 12 weeks, I might get to that point and feel an appointment is still unnecessary. My first pregnancy was a surprise, which was kind of stressful, so this time around I'm keeping everything low-key and just enjoying it!

I have an appt on 12/18. My OB likes her patients to sit with the nurse and "do a full work up". I told DH if it is a coupon giving sit down like the last time I am leaving.

I have my first appointment (tentative get-to-know-you) with a midwife on Friday. I absolutely don't want a hospital birth this time around, so I moved fast :lol

I've got my first apt for Jan 2nd. I think I'll be about 9 1/2 weeks then. The practice I go to has OBs and one MW (and I don't remember which one I'm seeing). I had attempted to use the MW last time but unfortunately we had a very difficult birth and ended up with the OB. Hoping this time I can use the MW the whole way through!
I can't wait to hear the little heartbeat!

i have my first OB apt on the Dec 28th....
i wanted to get in sooner but the B!tch of a receptionist was not processing the fact that i have a complicated bladder condition that requires me to take medication, and that i had a missed misscarrage back in July and was left sick and puking for 3 weeks before anyone thought to do a U/S to make sure things were ok.....
so yeah but i am gonna sneek in an early pre OB apt next week b/c i still have my apt for my 2nd checkup after the d&c (which was back in JULY remember?!?!?!?!)
and did i mention im on the fence about finding a new OB as well.....as much as i LOVE mine his staff has really gone to the crapper, and they are sooooooo fricken slow and its always a month wait!

I called my MW the other day to let her know. She called me back yesterday, but I didn't get a chance to call her back. Then I ran into her at a party tonight and became her granddaughter's new best buddy. It's a small town after all.
Anyway, I'll be calling her tomorrow to set up an appointment.

I went in on Friday because I was having some weird pain that was localized on one side & they wanted to rule out an ectopic... so I got a quick scan & all looks ok. They also wanted to start me on Lovenox :)
I go back on the 14th for a follow up to make sure the dosage of the Lovenox is right & he wants to do another scan to be sure there's a heartbeat. Then on the 28th is my OB Class (argh, as if I don't know what to expect after this many pregnancies) and Jan 8th is my OB Physical. I hate the way the military does things... but it's how you have to go to get into the system and unfortunately because of my complications I need to play along.

I had my first appt on the 21st. I actually had scheduled a pap etc, but then when I got my BFP a few days before it just turned into a prenatal visit. Which is good 'cause I've had a lot of early miscarriages the last 18 months, so we wanted to make sure my beta's were rising normally and I'll go for an u/s next week as well just to make sure the little bean is okay. I mean not that there is much they can do if BabyKoz isn't okay, but I guess mentally I would rather know ahead of time and prepare as best I could.
I'm having a UC/homebirth I was considering going UP, but with all the kidney problems and what not in my family, I'd rather be monitored a little throughout my pg. My doc is a family doc and she is awesome and pretty crunchy, so I'm not worried about unessessary interventions etc.
My u/s is on the 13th, I'll feel a lot more settled and secure once I see that little heartbeat thumping away in there. :love

I'm doing my own prenatal care for now. Eventually, I'll have to go see my OB to be able to later get a birth certificate, but that'll probably be around 20 weeks and maybe one more later in the pregnancy just to touch base with him.

My MW appointment is next week Wednesday. I don't know her personally yet and she only does home births. I wanted to get a feel for her and her practice, to see if I "click" with her and whether home birth is for me or not. She seems really nice over the phone.
This is my second time and going early will give me a chance to change my mind if I need to and drive 1 and a half hours to my old birth center instead. This lady is only about 40 minutes away.

I am making appts to meet with mw. I'm glad I'm moving on this early because I am finding that a number of them will be traveling this summer around my due date.
I am also going to see a dr... I want to hear the heartbeat! Does this mean they have to do an u/s? I was thinking there was other technology...

I have an information session with a MW on Dec. 19 then I will make my first actual appointment after that which I'm told will be around my 12 wk mark. I thought it seemed far away too but ith my first ds I saw my family dr. right away because I didn't trust the HPT, then we used an OB who we started seeing around 12 wks.

I still have to interview the MW, but I have spoken with her on the phone before and read a lot about her birth philosophy, and she sounds great. For now, I plan to set that up around the first of the year. Not sure when the first prenatal visit will be...

I think I want a certain midwifery practice, because (1) it is the only group practice that works with the birthing center I want, (2) I have the best feeling about it from reading about it, and (3) it is the most conveniently located. BUT MDCers in my geographic tribe are sharing reservations based on experiences they had. OTOH, they may just have different birthing philosophies -- they want me to homebirth. We have to first research if this practice takes our insurance; if so, we will set up an interview and I will make a big list of questions and sort of audition them. My big fear right now is EDD from LMP vs. O -- it they use LMP, it's 8 days earlier, and I don't want to be (mis)labelled post-dated and lose the opportunity to labor in the birthing center. I also, e.g., don't want fetal monitor all the time. So I will test them and see. Do folks share my feelings about a group practice being superior to a solo?

I've been emailing with my midwife... we might go meet with her this weekend (an interview kind of meeting even though we know we'll use her, just to touch base...)

Nope. I would not want a group practice. I want one person who I can trust and make sure we're on the same page.

I'm doing my own prenatal care, as the midwives are too medicalized here in ON and I just don't want to deal with any bit of it. I know of a GP who is UC-friendly, so I can go to him for recs for labwork or U/S if I need them.
LadyLeigh, your midwife should be able to pick up the heartbeat with the doppler after about 10 weeks or so, if I remember correctly. You don't have to have an U/S to hear it.
