I live in Colorado and am an avid Telemark skiier. I haven't gone since I found out I am pregnant and am trying to decide if I should turn in my pass and buy cross-country gear with the refund.
The last time I went 2 weeks ago I had a pretty big fall, even though I was trying to play it safe. Plus, the ski resorts out here are all above 8,500 feet.
AND- I am so freaking tired!
I guess I could go and just stay on the blue groomers while my friends scout out the powder stashes, but would that make me happy or frustrated... mmm...
My friend told me that after 3 months she had a hard time bending over to get her boots and skiis on and off.
But a season with no skiing? Ahhhh!!!!
What to do, what to do...

if you're anything like me, you're a wind in your face speed-junkie type skiier (i assume this since you mentioned the fall). i wouldn't last an hour on the bunny hill...
i would sit it out for a season, or go snow-shoeing or something less vigorous. a drag, yes, but much safer for the babe, kwim?

I agree with farmama, better to be safe.
I love snowboarding and the mountains are covered in fresh snow it seems like every day. *sigh* But I just can't do it confidently when I am pg, I'd be a nervous wreck which would probably make me fall more. :lol And I would never forgive myself if something happened simply because I decided to 'board that day.I'm just going to stick to the safer outdoor winter sports. I've never tried cross country skiing...that might be fun. But I hear ya, not the same as barrelling down the mountain in some nice fluffy untouched power *drool*. :o

No.
I went skiing. Once. I fell bass-ackwards down the bunnyhill while all the 2 year olds sailed by me on their tied-together skis and laughed their diapered butts off at me.
It is not a humiliation I plan to repeat. Ever.

As you can probably tell from my screen name, I too am an avid tele skier. Unfortunately we're having a terrible winter so far out east so my longings haven't really started yet. We barely have any snow on the ground!
I asked my OB last time around and she said you can not hurt the baby for at least the first 12 weeks by a fall, that it is safely tucked behind the pelvic bone. She recommended not skiing/teleing/boarding downhill after 16 weeks though, mainly because of the potential for others to hurt you.
I did a ton of backcountry with the last PG as it gave me the feeling of being out there without the full-on high speed downhills. (Though I guess trees can be considered just as dangerous...:) ) Just keep in mind the tiredness thing. I definitely overdid it a few times and paid for it the next day with super low blood pressure/dizziness and such.
If we ever get real snow (and my MS subsides) I'll definitely be out there! Enjoy it now because you may not want to go out later in the season!
