View Full Version : September 2007 Check in!

Okay, since they won't give us our own DDC right now, and it looks like August didn't appear until December 1 (so ours maybe January 1?), let's do a little check in and get to know one another. I feel like I'm in limbo and I'm anxious to get to know my fellow DDCers.

Some basic info?

Name: Melissa
Location: Ontario, Canada
Due Date: around September 1, 2007
Previous Pregnancies: 2---resulting in 2 kids--ages 5.5, and almost 3

Other: I am feeling exhausted these days; going to bed as early as 6:00pm! I really want to keep up my exercise and weight training, but it's nearly impossible with this kind of exhaustion and this high a need for sleep. I've already gained a few pounds. I've also been very hungry, so put those together and it's dangerous! I gained a lot of weight with my previous pregnancies (most of which I've lost) and I don't want to gain too much again.

I have never had trouble getting pregnant and I've never experienced a loss, so there is this cautiousness I have about it all; it's almost like I've been so lucky so far that I'm bound to suffer a loss. And statistically, I am supposed to or something. I'm trying to have more positive thoughts. Like, I'm only 26 and my partner and I are in excellent health. I have had 2 healthy pregnanies and 2 healthy babies. Our odds of miscarriage are lower than average since people have later pregnancies these days and the rates of miscarriage go up for people who are older than I am. Also, the rates of miscarriage are higher for those who have previously suffered a miscarriage. Those ones are included in the overall stats. So in all of this, we have a lower-than-average (based on all pregnancies today) risk. (See, I really need to convince myself because I'm terrified--this pregnancy is PERFECT timing in relation to my school schedule).

Good idea, Melissa!

Name: Becky
Age: 31 (32 next month)
Location: Just north of NYC
Due Date: around September 2, 2007
Previous Pregnancies: 1, ended in miscarriage in October 2006 at around 5 weeks.

Other: It took a lot for me to feel ready to start a family. I've always wanted kids, but emotionally the thought of being a mom was totally overwhelming and scary to me. My husband, however, was more than ready for kids when we got married in August 2005. In May 2006 I went off the pill and started charting, just to see what my cycles looked like. Found out I had a short LP so I started taking Vitex, which worked like a charm to not only lengthen my LP but also to move up my ovulation date. We decided to start trying in September and got pregnant immediately and I was happy but terrified. I started miscarrying only 5 days after getting my BFP. My cycle went right back to normal after that ended. With this cycle, I felt such happiness and peace right after we conceived, I just knew that I'd be pregnant and that it would stick (I hope I'm right about that!!).

Nice to meet you Becky! I live not too far from NYC (okay, well an 8 hour drive :lol ).
I was there last summer anyway.

Sorry about your recent loss.

I don't know about Vitex, though I have heard of it. Is it by prescription?

Thank you Melissa for starting this!!!! :)

Name: Rachel
Age: 29
Location: Northwest Ohio
Due Date: I think it will be around Sept 4th ??? Not sure yet. :)
Previous Pregnancies: 1 son born 5-05

Other: I am still feeling nervous and worried! I have never had a miscarriage but I had placenta prevera with ds and I did bleed almost every other week and had tons of restrictions! It was wonderful that it cleared itself up before delivery as most cases do! :) I am very excited and emotional! :) Already feeling nauseas, having tons of cramps (some of which are so bad that I am worried!) and light headed. Trying to conceive was more emotional than I remembered with ds so I am very happy to be apart of the ddc and also to get to know my ddc buddies! This is going to be such a wonderful and beautiful journey for all of us!! :)

Hey, me too!

I'm Helen, 29, and live in Wiltshire in England. I have two gorgeous boys, Alex and Isaac, and a daughter, Skye, living, but this will be my 9th pregnancy in total- I've also had four miscarriages and my eldest daughter Rowan was stillborn at 24 weeks as a result of a cord accident. Wow, that sounds like a lot when you put it down like that.
We think I'm due around the 31st, based on when I got the bfp, but I tend to go overdue anyhow so my due dates are really a work of fiction. I figure little eggy will be out by Halloween, one way or another.
It's great to meet you!

I don't know about Vitex, though I have heard of it. Is it by prescription?

No, Melissa, it's a supplement that helps the body to balance out its own hormones, specifically progesterone and LH. It's good stuff! :)

Nice to meet you, Helen and Rachel!

I JUST found out tonight that I'm pregnant! My dh is working late, I can't get a hold of him...I wanted to tell someone! But I want him to know first before I tell anyone else we know...so I thought I'd come here! So glad you all started a group already! :grouphug

I'm excited to call my midwife tomorrow, I was just thinking of her the other day and now I really have a reason to call. :wink

Looking forward to getting to know everyone! Congratulations to you!

Love & Peace to each of you!

Congratulations Salihah!!! :carrot :banana :broc: and welcome!!! :)

How did you tell you DH last night??? I bet he is so happy!!! :)

I called each of my family members on the phone... nothing too creative, I was just so excited I had to tell them!! :) I did buy a cute t-shirt for my son to wear that says 'I'm Going To Be A Big Brother'. My husband does not want to tell his side of the family until we are 12 weeks along. Our two families live in different cities... so it will not be hard to follow his wishes. Anyway... I think I am going to put my son in that shirt when we are past that time frame and we are all together (or take a pic and email it to everyone) and see if anyone says anything!! I am sure that will be so excited! :)

How about you?

Congrats again!!!! :)

I will only tell the people who I would want around me for support if something goes wrong. Everyone else can wait a while! ;) My sister knew I was testing, so I called her the day I got my BFP. I'm telling my mom and stepfather tonight when I see them for Christmas eve (I gave my mom a heads up last week that I might be pregnant, so she's expecting it!). I told a few of my good girlfriends who knew we were trying. And, you know, the entire internet! :p

I've been having a lot of cramping too, which I attribute to gassiness and bloating that is supposed to be normal for pregnancy. But I can't help but worry they're the 'expelling' type of cramps, kwim? It's kind of sucky.

The other major symptoms I am having right now are exhaustion and (ironically or not) the inability to sleep! I have been up since 4am, and it's not because it's Christmas morning. I've been waking up around 4 every day for a while now. And I tried to go back to sleep; laid in bed for an hour afterwards. Ah well; at least I know I can nap later.

We told DP's parents last night (Xmas eve) with a reindeer ornament holding 3 little reindeer. We labelled two of the little ones with our present kids' names, and they caught on pretty quick. They took the news very well, and seemed genuinely happy for us. I had one when I met their son, and the first I had with their son wasn't, in their eyes, the best timing. To their credit, they were still very supportive, but the mood wasn't as celebratory as it is this time, almost 3.5 years later. As we were handing them the present, we said: "we brought you something back from Rome" because we conceived there in early December. It was cute--they were the ones who had watched our kids while we were away for a week.

I have been to the Europe, but not to Rome. What a great story to tell your little child!!! :) I too am facing the inablilty to sleep! I never knew that was a symptom. :) Hopefully is passes very early for both of us!! :)

Wishing everyone a very wonderful Holiday Season!!! :)

Wow, Helen, that is a lot of losses. :hug I'm so glad you're back here with another pregnancy to enjoy, though!

Melissa, I was also having a lot of trouble staying asleep in the morning up until a few days ago. I'd wake up around 4am every morning and have trouble getting back to sleep. Now I'm getting totally wiped out around 4pm! Other than that, though, I'm not having any symptoms, but I'm not too worried as that's not unusual for only being 4 weeks.

That's also very sweet how you told your partner's parents!

I told my parents yesterday on Christmas (Christmas eve had too many people around and I didn't want anyone to overhear). They were so happy. I'm hoping that having another grandchild (they have one, and another one coming in 3 weeks, then mine in September) will convince them to move back to the area. Right now they live about 8 hours away from me, which is kind of scary for me -- I really want my mom around when I have my first kid, you know?

I hope everyone else had a great holiday!

Other: I'm totally overwhelmed right now and still in shock. This new babe will have almost the same due date as my son, who was born a month early due to my health issues. I'm hoping against hope we don't have a repeat of the same stuff.

Oh and my sis is expecting twins in a couple of months, and I have another sister who also has twins, so I'm freaking out a little at the possibility of more than one. :dizzy:

We have only told my one sister so far. We're having dinner with my parents tonight and I'm hoping to find a "Big Brother" t-shirt for DS to wear. I can't wait to see the look on my mom's face. :D

I figured I should join up with you ladies too since I will probably give birth in September, this being my first baby and all. No huge symptoms yet, sore breasts and a little abdominal cramping, backaches if I stand too long and I've just started getting tired (fell asleep at 9:30 last night, however Christmas is tiring even if you're not pg).

I told my dh by giving him the book Be Prepared. Its really funny and informative for the new dad. We just told our immediate families yesterday by writing little notes on the gifts for our moms. His mom screamed and my mom started crying (tears of joy).

Hi, everyone! Just found out I'm pregnant yesterday. What a Christmas present! I am in shock b/c this is the first month we tried to get pg. I expected to at least have a couple of months or something (not that I am complaining or anything...).

I'm Renée. I have a beautiful daughter who will be 3 in Sept. My due date is somewhere around the 3rd of Sept.

We did tell close family and friends...we showed up at my parents yesterday with envelopes that contained a little quip in each of them that said that we were pg. My dd gave each of them an envelope.... It was very cute.

Symptoms: sore breasts, exhaustion, early waking (4 am for me, too! In fact that's why I tested yesterday...I was awake at 4. Then I left it in the bathroom and told my dh that there was an early Christmas present waiting for him), dd said that "Muckie (mama milk) is yucky!" last week already. I am also feeling crampy. Is that normal? I don't remember it from last time.

Nice to meet you all!

Renée

Me, too, Renee! In fact, I felt that I knew it would be this easy, but then kept forcing myself down to earth by reminding myself of stats and averages and telling myself that it would not happen right away. I guess I just didn't want to be disappointed. I was trying NOT to get pregnant the first time I did, and the second time I got pregnant right away, and same with this one. Now I'm trying to prepare myself for a potential loss, because we've just never had any trouble conceiving or sticking a baby.

:) twins are double the blessing..... try not to worry! :)

One of my biggest fears (aside from ill health) about this pregnancy is that it's twins! We are not prepared for twins. We do not want a fourth young child right now. We would have to buy a different car. I would be very tired, and I would probably not be able to continue in school PT as I plan to with a singleton. Nevermind the increased likelihood of complications or C-section or bedrest.

I wish the people who really wanted twins could be assigned them or something :lol .

I had a very early + test (8 or 9dpo) and my symptoms are much more severe than they were with either previous pregnancy, so it's got me a little on edge. I will be opting for an u/s at 11 weeks this time as part of our prenatal screening program in part to confirm the number of babies.
