I thought it would be fun to play a little game to get to know one another better. This one's fun!
This game is called Truth and Lies. You will post four pieces of information about yourself. 3 are truths and 1 is a lie. The others must guess which of the statements are true and which one is a lie. It's a great way to get to know one another and have a bit of fun at the same time. Your statements can be mundane, outrageous or anything in between. I'll start:
1. I was a stunt double in a Disney movie.
2. I have been a professional knitter.
3. I am a car seat technician.
4. I like playing chess.
So now, guess which is the lie?:lol
Once you've guessed, post your own statements.

3. I'm vice president of an exotic bird advocacy group

s_s - I'm voting for #2... I can see enjoying knitting as a hobby... but once you become a professional, is it even fun anymore??
Becky - My vote is #3, I'm figuring you must be president ;)
DCTexan - Well, if the Texas and Atlanta are true in your name and signature, I'm voting for #4... no way you got lost in any snow storms in those areas!
OK, here are mine:
1> I've been to every continent in the world except Antarctica.
2> I was once in a Kikkoman Soy Sauce Commercial.
3> Half of my family is adopted from Ethiopia.
4> I regularly give money to the GOP.
S-S: #4

S_s, I think #1 is your lie,
dc texan, i'm going to say #3 - 21 drinks? I'm :dizzy: just thinking about it!
Mindy, I'm voting for #4

Here's mine:
#1 I've lived in Wisconsin. Twice.
#2 My brother is getting married in China. Tomorrow.
#3 I've never gotten a speeding ticket.
#4 I don't like chocolate.

dctexan: Definitely #4!
Mindi22: Number 3? (and what is GOP? :shy )
Sabo: Number 3?
jeaninevp922: Number 3?
To answer your question, Sabo, I think we can give answers after a few people have guessed.
My lie was #4: I can't stand chess in reality!
I was actually a stunt double in a Disney movie, though it's less impressive than it sounds. I was a good field hockey player in my high school days, and I was filmed doing stick work for a local movie, and they made it look like it was the "real" actresses. I was also actually in the movie as a field hockey player in the final game. The movie is called "Mr. Headmistress".
It's with Harland Williams and Katey Sagal (Peg Bundy from Married With Children).
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0145915/
Knowing what I know about Disney today, however, I would not do it again (be in a movie or work for them). I also worked at McDonald's for 3 years! My, how people change!
My lie was #4: I can't stand chess in reality!
I was right!!

This is so much fun!
Becky - I almost didn't guess for you because I was so sure :) I figured you'd have told me about your PhD.
Mindi - #4 is your lie?
Jeaninevp922 - #2?
For me, those of you who guessed #3 were correct. I had A LOT to drink on my 21st b-day but not 21 drinks (although I have seen people do it, no idea how though...maybe they were better at boot and rally? Once I booted, it was over).
#1). I was 17 and driving down I-95 at about 90 mph (speed limit 55) just north of the NC boarder when I passed a cop (he was on the right shoulder). Lights came on and he whipped out into traffic. Fortunately there were a ton of trucks in the right lanes (I was in the far left lane) and I *think* he must have had trouble getting his speed up because I hit the gas (110 mph! The fastest I have EVER driven before or after) and watched him turn off his lights and just pull back over to the side of the road. I guess he figured it wasn't worth it. I exited at the next exit and took back roads the rest of the way! That incident scared the crap out of me and I rarely speed, even to this day.
#2). I DID hang up on President Bush - but it was Bush Senior and it was a total accident. I was working as an intern in Sen. Christopher Dodd's office (I was 16) and they had me answering phones. Not a big deal, you answer the phone and either take a message if it is a voter or transfer the call. Well Bush calls and asks to speak to "Chris" (i.e. Sen. Dodd) so I get ready to transfer him over. Unfortunately I think I was a little nervous or something because I totally dropped the call. Whoops. They took me off the phones after that :o
#4). Not only are Atlanta and Texas true, but the DC part is true too :) I grew up just outside of DC and I did indeed get lost in a snow storm. I was about 9 and it was snowing really really hard. My sister and I went out to play and went down to the creek to slide on the ice. Well the ice wasn't 100% solid so we ended up falling through in a couple of places (it wasn't THAT deep, but enough to soak our boots and the bottoms of our snowpants). Instead of following the creek back to our house we decided to go up to the street and find our way. Unfortunately it was snowing so hard we had NO IDEA where we were. We wandered around for a bit when FINALLY a car slowed down (I guess the driver was very concerned about seeing two children wandering around in a blizzard) and asked if she could help us. I asked if she knew where our street was and fortunately we were almost there! We pretty much ran home. Sadly, I am not even really sure my parents knew we were gone. Of course after I told my mom what we had done (we were crying because we had been scared and cold) she was soooo mad at me. Didn't really seem fair if she hadn't noticed we were gone. :irked:
Anyway those are my stories. I love reading everyone elses :)

No one else wants to play?
Ok, well I'll give you ladies a hint.
My brother did get married in China. And, yup, it was yesterday. Talk about good timing - who's actually going to believe that?
We were invited to go, but the idea of sitting on a plane for 13 hours with a 20 month old was not at all appealing. (Especially after a 5 or 6 hour car ride to get to the airport.) I do have a little guilt about it, but I'm trying to get over it. My parents did go, however, and I can't wait to hear about it! And I'm hoping that when the kids are older, my new SIL will go with us. (She'll be moving here when her visa gets approved, but all her friends and family are there.)

Ok, yes, #4 was my lie. Although I was a registered republican at one point in my life, I am no longer (proud libertarian here), and I wouldn't consider sending any money to the republican party, even if I did have extra lying around!
All the rest are true, and I actually had a hard time coming up with a lie that didn't make those really obviously true. The Kikkoman commercial was when I was in my early teens, and I was an extra in a hot tub. Was pretty fun. I have indeed been to every continent, (although not mainland Asia, just to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea), and one of my goals is to take an Antarctica cruise someday so I can check that off my list! I have four adopted siblings from Ethiopia, all of whom are older than me, and for part of my life I was the youngest of 2 kids, and then suddenly I became the youngest of six kids. Fun, though, and I can't say enough good things about having a big family. Which, is, of course, one of the many reasons I'm psyched about a new addition!
This was fun!

sanguine_speed: You were right!!
1. I have 9 bros- and sis-in-laws: My dh has 2 bio sibs, one of whom is married and 6 adoptive sibs.
2. I once stalked my local sports reporter: I thought he was adorable and he mentioned that he was doing a charity game one night, so my college roommate and I made a huge poster and went to the game. I think he was a little freaked out, but he did introduce himself and the the softest hands I've ever felt, weird.
3. My wedding anniversary is April Fool's Day: Nope, but it was my parents' anniversary.
4. I once spent a romantic night in a bat-cave: My dh and I went to Belize for our honeymoon. We spent a few days in the jungle, where we rappelled into a 300 foot sinkhole, hiked into an underground cave, and spent a candlelit night in the cave. DH and I decided to have dinner about the same time the bats decided to go outside for dinner, so we saw them flying by. They were very polite hosts and kept their distance.

Fun fun!
Here are mine:
1. I once danced with the Prince of Spain in a club in Madrid.
2. My Father was in Conan the Barbarian.
3. I've been arrested on more than 2 occasions.
4. I've slept with a priest.
And my guesses:
naturegirl - #3 I pole vaulted in college
jinetemx - #4 I studied archaelogy at Mayan pyramids in Central America
I hope I didn't miss anyone that hasn't already fessed up!
Btw Emily - I lived in DC for 9 years! It's where I call home in the States since I still have friends there.

Natalia - Very good answers, I am having a hard time with you. I guess #3 (I suspect you;ve only been arrested once or twice :wink ). BTW I still consider DC "home" too even though I haven't lived there in over 12 years.

I'm gonna vote for #4, but only because I hope that there are a few priests left out there that mean their vows... also, I probably have a dirty mind and I'm sure if this is true it means slept with in the literal sense.... right???? :)

I must say, you all live much more interesting, exotic lives than I! I am envious.
I guess it's time for me to fess up. #3 is the fake out. I did not pole vault in college however my hubby did and still does. He did vault with a girl but she was "unofficially" vauliting for a year or two before girls were "allowed" :rolleyes. She is now an olympic pole vaulter!
I did skinny dip in Hungary :shy
We have two "wedding" dates and the inlaws still don't know about the 1st! And my dh loves that if he misses the 1st (real) one he always has a back up.
I also never road a commercial air plane until I was 20. I lived in a small town in Manitoba and it was half the distance to drive to the airport to go anywhere so we just drove the whole way. Plus I was the youngest of 4 and to get two adults and 4 kids on a plane...:dizzy:

Wow, I had no idea girl weren't allowed to pole vault! Wow. Glad they changed THAT.
DH and I discussed having 2 weddings (a real and a fake) because in the state were we got married, you either get married with a religious officiant or you go to City Hall. DH and I knew exactly where and how we wanted to get married and it wasn't with a religious officiant and it certainly wasn't in City Hall. So we were planning on getting legally married at City Hall and then having our wedding ceramony with a friend "officiating". Fortunately we discovered that our friend could get ordained online and be able to legally marry us so we ended up with only one wedding.
Okay Natalia - when are YOU fessing up? I wanna hear your stories :)

Okay I confess to slightly misleading you ladies.....
1. I once danced with the Prince of Spain in a club in Madrid.
In fact my lie is #1. I've never danced with the Prince of Spain! Although one time when we were out and about in Madrid we found out he was in the bar next door so we tried to get in to check him out but the body guards wouldn't let us in no matter how much we begged! This was when I was 20 soo... long time ago.
2. My Father was in Conan the Barbarian.
My Dad was 6'6" - super tall especially in Spain. Some people from the movie Conan saw my Dad in Madrid and immediately came up to him to ask him to be an extra in the film since they were filming in Spain. I went to see that movie as a kid just to see my Dad and then I didn't even recognize him since they put hair on him! IRL he was totally bald.
3. I've been arrested on more than 2 occasions.
Yep - I have been arrested more than 2 times, actually 3, for parading without a permit but no charges were ever filed. I was really active in Unions when I lived in DC. Basically when we were demonstrating and the cops got sick of us we'd be hauled into the back of a police truck and taken to the station where we'd be held for a few hours. I was pretty young, I thought it was great fun, we'd sing union songs and feel really justified. I'm still 100% pro-union!
4. I've slept with a priest.
Yes.... but this is where I've done the misleading. Mindi22 was on the right track. I did share a bed one night with a priest and we slept, just sleeping nothing else, one night together and only because it was the only option available. He was a really cool young guy totally dedicated to his calling. The kind of clergy you never hear about, the ones that have a vocation and are trying to make the world a better place. I loved talking to him especially as I'm a lapsed Catholic and have a very cynical view on the Catholic church. He was inspiring.
What about you, jinetemx?

#1 is my lie! Wish it weren't!
I have been paid to perform poetry regularly, my father and I drove race cars (he drove sprinters, I drove stock cars, and I am (okay, was, I let my certification lapse) an ASE mechanic which I normally keep as a closely guarded secret so people don't ask me to fix their cars :lol and I did study archeology at the Mayan ruins of Copan, Honduras, probably the most beautiful place on earth!
Nice to get you know you all better!
