I do recall someone saying they close fast - as do mouth piercings, but you may want to check with someone who knows for sure.

Dh likes the idea of a lip tat but not that one. So, we're working on a design. I asked for his opinion and he gave it. You know I've been undecisive on where to get this tat.... I'm thinking upper arm like where Starmama's is (not that in depth or large though)

streching holes in my ears as a treat for finishing first test in pyschology.
white bone question marks and the next holes up have tiny tiny rods s.s. with black rubber rings to hold them in.
yeah me......now if only i would call tattooo artist and make an appointment.

Hi, I am a momma to 7 month old dd. Reading the earlier posts, everyone seemed to intro themselves and the body art work. I have 5 small tattoos, each nostril pierced, labret/lip , 3/4 " ears, and had beautiful horzontal nipple piercings, but took them out when dd was about 1 minute old. Look forward to checking back here often!!

its_our_family--like, up on your shoulder? or more like where an arm band would be? What about incorporating it into an arm band design?

Welcome loobop!

I have no downstairs piercings Polka, so I can't offer anything there, but 1.5 years does seem long for a piecing in that area to stay completely open...but again, just speculation :D Good luck!

:throb sorry i have been away... you know how it goes with me... :nut :nut sorry... thats awesome about yer ears!Make sure you wash them and dry them well and if they are buggen you put (verry badly spelled) neosporin or bassatracyn on them.gob it on and twist and move it around so that it gets inside. When you are actually doing the streching with the new peice of jewlry put it on the earing too, it not only helps it as a lub to slide in easier, but if it does get a lil sore it helps that you used it.
The cell number came off my phone...But will you try me tomorrow?

What are yous tretching to? I"m stretching to a 0 here soon. I'm thinking about just staying at 2g since it looks nice in my ears. I'm not sure though.

I'll just place it with the rest of my indecision!

My philosophy says to leave it alone. Make sure when you wash your hair you rinse off your ears really well and try to avoid styling products on them (big problem for this goo head here :LOL) Other than that I'd leave em be.

I'm at a 2 and I've been haing this nasty crusty stuff all around the washer. I think it started out as dry skin that broke open. It is now kinda infected and yelling at me. :( My poor ear :(

Ok, so this is the plan. I'mg etting my I AM tat in hebrew done on my right shoulder. Im' getting the text in a dark purple (near black) and then I'm going to have him design something simple (maybe swirly) for the background. THen I'm going to figure out what I want and see if he'll do a lip tat at the same time.

Thats the plan...I'm going to see about calling him this week and maybe get some ink in the next month :D

Sounds awesome, Megan! I hope the ear heals up soon. Have you tried tea tree oil on it? Or calendula? Both are great for their skin healing properties, and TTO is an unbeatable antiseptic. Calendula is milder, if you have sensitivities.

I am working up the nerve to go back and finish my hummingbird tat. I got it back in Nov. for my 33rd birthday (1st tat), and so far it is the bird hovering over the bell flower, somewhat above the small of my back. To complete it, I have drawn/designed a vine motif in a sort of celtic knot style, with the general outline of a heart, that will rest on the lower back/top of buttocks, and mostly below the original tat(s). I really just need to take the sketch out to the shop and show it to them, see whether it's feasible, and find out how much $$ to start saving up... :thumb

I just had the neatest experience yesterday I wanted to share with you guys :)

I was at Target, returning something, and an old woman (over 60 at minimum) was at the register next to me. She turned around and complimented me on my star tattoos! :) At first she said "your tattoos..." and then was interupted by another employee doing something or other, bringing her a product or something, and I thought 'oooh boy, is she going to say something rude?'.

But then when she was finished she turned back around and said "Your tattoos! They are so nice, and really complimentary. I like them a lot!".

Wow! I've never gotten compliments for my work from an older person before! And MOST comments from people who aren't tattooed (ok she COULD have hidden tattoos, but I mean people who don't have visible work or don't look like the "type" yk?) is more along the lines of "didn't that HURT?!" (esp about my big Orion piece) and not really about the beauty of my work (which is why I get them, I think they are beautiful).

So very cool :D

Megan, that sounds really nice! Can I ask what the meaning behind the words are? Just curious :) Sorry about you ear, could you be reacting to the o rings? I've read about ppl having problems with them. Also TTO, from what I've read, needs to be diluted. Never used it myself...

Yes very rare to have a *compliment* on my work from people with no work (no visible at least). It totally made my day! Now I wonder if she would have still complimented me if I had a tank on, so 7 of my tattoos would be showing! (heck who knows, maybe she would have still loved them! Which would be awesome).

I SO want to make my back/shoulders into one piece! But I don't know how, I just can't come up with any way that I like... I really regret getting 3 little shoulder/back tattoos now. :crying I mean I LOVE my work, but I wish I had gotten them to "fit" my body better. Make the swirly heart bigger, ect. It just looks so "patchwork" like now. I love my big Orion piece and my stars, they were made to fit those parts of me, and I just want my shoulders to do the same...

I'm tattooed and formerly pierced a lot (now just a little). I want to get my septum redone, but am having a hard time finding references for a good place in D.C. Does anyone know of one?

Also, has anyone had the same piercing done 3 times? I've had my tongue done 3 and surprisingly don't have noticeable scar tissue. I'm a little concerned about getting too much scar tissue with my septum, as it will be the third time.

:hola: mahasti, Bella Babe, JesiLynne, and Dragonfly!

Well, I took my design in to the shop and showed it to the artists there. :thumb I'm going back next Monday to see what they've come up with! :D I told them I'm working on building up the nerve to come in and get it finished within the next month or two, and the guy who did my work back in Nov. said he wanted to touch up the original while he was doing the vines. I was a bit surprised at how much he thinks it will cost, though-- $300! :eek So I'm going to have to save up about twice as much as I originally though, unless they'll take payments! :LOL

For those who might be better able to advise me (still a serious newbie to all of this stuff), does that price sound a bit high for a larg-ish vine design? It will be at the small of my back, in color (green, obviously), probably about 3 to 3.5 in. tall by about 6 in. wide. The design *is* somewhat complex, but nothing like a solid Celtic knot design. I know it's hard to get a good visual idea from that, but.... I'd appreciate any input! TIA

Hi! I'm new to MDC altogether, and was very happy to see this thread.

I have my navel & my nose pierced. I did my nose myself when I was 13 (gah) and I've had the navel ring for 10 years. I've got a hole in each ear, but I rarely wear earrings--they always seem to bother me (which is why my daughter, when she decides she wants her ears pierced, will go to a PIERCER, and not some minimum-wage mall clerk wielding a piercing gun).

I have the numbers 11899 tattooed across my left bicep (my daughter's birthday) and my right arm is a full sleeve, shoulder to wrist. It's a sci-fi space scene, with space ships and rockets and smoke, and a giant robot. I have a purple & black moon/stars that's about 6 inches long, 1 inch all across the middle of my back.

I had made the first appointment to get my left arm sleeve started when I found out I was pregnant, so I'm anxious to get that started! I'm excited about that one, it's going to be all old-school traditional/americana...."dirty sailor tattoos". I only go to one artist, and he's been working on the design for that arm for a long time, and we're both dying to get it started. After that, I have a grey & black back piece to do, and we'll see what happens after that.

As for piercings, I love getting pierced, but there's not really any other place I want to get pierced. I have long tossed the idea of surface piercings around (around my collarbone, mostly, or nape of the neck) but I've heard so many rejection horror stories that I've put it off for a while. I'm still considering metal implants under parts of my robot, but again, that whole jewelry rejection thing seems to be a problem, so no plans yet.

Nice to see all these ink loving mamas here!

I'll get some pictures up here somewhere soon.

Hi all, I am looking over my shoulder to make sure DH does not see me on this thred... I am a used to be impaled chick. I never got any tats, but I was/am a peircing fanatic! I had 72 piercings, I think i did them all... I am sure they have come up with soem new things to pierce since I took my last piercings out two years ago...
Anyway, every once in a while I will feel my impalements open up again with my hormonal shifts. Two weeks ago my daith just reopened for some reason or other, so I stuck a ring back in just to feel it again. I missed it and the sensation from wearing it.
I think it is awesome that I am not the only one that daydreams about redoing old preicings.
Thats great!

Hey mamas. I havent been keeping up. Although just thought that I would put this out there. DP is a tattoo artist in Chicago, with it still being winter, the season is SLOW in this part if the country. If you and your friends are dying for some new art on your body, let me know. We would be willing to travel, as the cold is sure getting to us. Plus he would be much cheaper that going to a shop and paying full price. He is very meticiulous about steralization, cleanlieness etc. Just got a new 25 color set from Intenze ink, the same kind Mario Barth usese, and sells. If you can get a "party" together(at least 5 people) you could get a GREAT deal. We are broke and looking for a way to make some extra money and travel.

Hello, new member here...

I have 1 tattoo, which I totally hate now that it is almost 19 years old and I no longer have the "willing to die to make my boyfriend's life better" attitude. It is 8 inches long, on my belly between bellybutton and hip. It is two roses entwined, one red - one blue, as the red rose's thorn is piercing the blue rose and sucking the life blood out of it. It is really poorly done. The thorns are facing the wrong direction. It is just plain ugly. It's funny in some ways to look back on it and say "Hey, yeah that is how I felt about the guy at the time." But really tragic in the way he really did suck my life away from me. And the really funny thing is - the guy never saw the tattoo, and I haven't seen him either. Long story short - Long Distance, over sea relationship started in England while I lived there for 6 months. I came home, got strung along, and along, and along - I was such an idiot...

Lets see, ears pierced (kind of). I have to force earrings in since removing my hoops before my dd was born. Even the two I had stretched to 14 guage.

Nose was pierced during the 90's, during my "club" days. I loved my nose piercing but with the little one, I'd have too many bloody noses.

Nipples were pierced, I can still get a sewing needle through them (I do this every so often to clean out the "junk" that accumulates - what is that stuff anyways?) I took the nipple rings out while I was pregnant with my 2 1/2 year old, nursed her until October and promptly got pregnant once she weaned. My husband wants me to re-pierce once I'm done breastfeeding. My nipples are way too sensitive now. The thought makes me cringe. I know this might not go over too well but the piercing and later stretching of my nipples hurt more than my labor/delivery of Zsanna, which I did naturally.

I would eventually like to pay the thousands of dollars and have my tattoo removed. And then I would love to have my childrens' lives chronicled in some way on my back. Maybe a tree or vine with milestones marked somehow.

Well that's the sum of my body art. It's nice to know I'm not the only tattooed and pierced mom out here...

hi dragonfly---------------

sorry cant recommend anyone in your area but...

some piercings, like my nose, i have had done up to five times. some people are more prone to scarring than pthers. The thick knotty scars, the type that can be very apparent and shiny on african skin, and some other ethnicities too, like my cauc sister, is keloid scarring. you can break it down by massaging/rubbing it. best to do it soon after choosing to remove a piercing, but will help anytime. good to do in preparation for getting the same area repeirced. visiting and discussing any concerns with a PROFESSINAL piercer should help. personally i dont feel comfortable with a piercer who makes me feel like i am wasting his time by having questions and/or concerns. a true professional should take the time to listen and help, not just care how many clients (quick $$) s/he can get in and out the door.

anyways---good luck and have fun!!!

halfdozenscrambled------

does the quote include the touch up of the old work? its a good sign the artist wants to maintain his work/ keep it looking good. should mean he cares.

I understand having concerns about the cost. I am a real researcher when it comes to pricing, but with tattoos it is different to shopping around for a product that is exactly the same but in different stores at diff. prices. the most important thing is if you feel comfortable with the artist, that you feel they understand exactly what you want, and that you are confident that they will deliver. as a tattoo is meant to last a lifetime a little extra money now for an artist that meets these criteria might be worth letting slide, or being happy to part with the cash. maybe s/he bases their quote on time, and you want to hope that they will take their time on an intricate piece. of course there are other aspects too which I haven't mentioned that are of great importance---like hygiene/ health/ safety issues.

it sounds like this isnt the first time you are seeing this artist right? so you are obviously satisfied with their work. you could always show the pic to a couple of other artists and get their quotes, but of course their figures only count if their skills meet your standards.

best of luck----have fun getting new body art!!

Hey darkstar :)

I can feel some scar tissue where my septum was pierced, but it doesn't feel especially knotty. It actually seems like it might still have a very tiny hole in it.

The sad thing is that I know what to look for in a piercer. I used to have a great one in Richmond until she moved out to the Bay area, then found another really good one, then moved away. Now I just don't have the time to really search one out and don't know the sort of people here who would know a good place. (I live in total suburbia right now.)

I'd love to see your DP's work, too (your link asked me to create an account?). Not just for me, but for my best friend. She's in Chicago and heavily tattooed and is always looking for a good artist to collaborate with.

My first tattoo I washed it two times a day and used triple antibiotic ointment for a few days and then used a lotion.
My secind I also washed it a few times a day and used bactitracin ointment for 5 days as alternating Calendula ointment. Then I used bactracin sparingly for a few mores days.

Ok anyways, I was not satisfied at all with the after care of the first. It scabbed and peeled horribly. But it came out just fine.
The Second the healing was alot easier. no scabs and very minimal flaking. I am just not happy with the artists work. ARG.. Not I have found a better artist and am about to have it touched up.

I kept my all work done on my sleeve bandaged for about 4 hours after it was done. After that, NO wrapping in seran wrap or any other wrapping (it totally sucks the ink out and slows healing), and I would wash it lightly three or four times a day, with a light layer of bacitracin, *blotted*, and switched to Lubriderm after about 3 days. For tough parts, like my elbow, armpit, and inner elbow, I would keep very tiny amounts of bacitracin on it for up to a week, but I found that I leaked ink like a mofo if I used it for longer than three days, or didn't blot.
I've never had to have any ink touched up, and have no uneven color anywhere, even in and around my elbow.

Evanston is about 20 minutes north of Chicago. I will get these photos on another site later tonight, or tommorow, as I have been working this weekend. And it is totally wearing me out. As for the transfer, he would transfer just about everything onto your skin, unless it was a portrait.

I would not keep anything wraped in saran wrap for too long either.

Greetings!

Not tryin' to de-rail any trains of thought, but just wanted to stop by and share that I got my nose pierced and it's a pretty big deal, cuz I ALWAYS wanted to do this! :mischief (Maybe a small tat is next? Dunno...)

My dd had her nose pierced back when she was in her mid-teens (she 22 now), but then, let it close up. She was surprised I actually did this, and is now wanting to get hers done again. Her boyfriend told her to tell me- and he hasn't even seen me since I did this- that it looks HOT!!!! :LOL I thought I'd pee my pants laughing!

yay Joyce! Good for you! I bet it looks great!

sahmof2girls--looks cool!

When I got my first tats (11 years+ ago) the recommendation was always to keep it covered for a few hours and then Neosporin while it healed. My last tat which was about a year and a half ago (hmmm, must be time for another :mischief ) they told me absolutely NO Neosporin, Bacitracin, etc. and just lotion like Lubriderm. Had to keep it covered for a few hours, then wash and lotion for a few days. Not sure the exact time frames there, but I do remember that definitely they said nothing but lotion and no saran wrap or anything like that. Actually, this thread is the only place I've ever heard of anybody covering with plastic wrap before--it is interesting the different recommendations for after care of ink.

I was wondering the same thing,I also make alot of healing salves and was thinking of maken tattoo goo salve stuff, and when i was talking to a tattoo artist about it he said that putting Neosporin & Bacitracin the first thing after taken the wrap off and the first wash is done is important, but then to continue to use it after is too healing too quickly. and also it is important to not use aloe, aloe pulls the ink out. it needs to heal slowly on its own ,but it needs to not be too dried out, that is why the lotion.and it is good to wash it as much as possible.dr brauners is the best for it.
so yes lotion but read carefully to make sure no frag. and no aloe. I think they say Lubriderm because it has neither.
Good luck,Blessings and love~

Healing practices are so random! You hear a miollion thigns in a million places.

We did washing in the shower and lotion a few times a day to keep it moist. It would get itchy every few hours and the lotion got rid of that.

[QUOTE=dynamohumm6] For tough parts, like my elbow, armpit, and inner elbow, I would keep very tiny amounts of bacitracin on it for up to a week, but I found that I leaked ink like a mofo if I used it for longer than three days, or didn't blot.

So, I just bought one of those Pregnancy Piercings, it's flexible medical tubing with balls at each end, I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Unfortunately, I can't get the thing into my navel. It's exactly the same size as my barbell, but for whatever reason, I just can't get the damned thing in.

yOU ARE FINE. You have a greater chance for keloids for piercing though because your body produces extra colagen. There is a link here to why its ok, but you'd have to search for it because I lost it :LOL

I got my first tat a few months ago, while still exclusively bf-ing. Somewhere earlier in this tribe thread, there is a link to some info about risks and how they apply to the bf-ing mom. Basically, the risks are negligible, but you probably want to ask a few questions of your artist/shop first, such as what kind of inks they use. Ink ingred. aren't regulated, and you can get some pretty high heavy metal levels in some of them:

Article (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/articles/17281192%3Fsource%3DEvening%2520Standard)

another article (http://megahunter.net/news/atlanews_120604.htm)
(look at the 2nd article on this page)

Purely anecdotal, but baby and I haven't had any problems since getting mine. :)

300 hundred years ago, when I was the MDC member known as Diaper Diva, I was asked to post pictures of my tattoos. I did have them all until our computer crashed, and now, tonight, I took as many as I could. I have one that I can't get to (on my shoulder). You would not believe the crazy positions I was in taking photos of these dern things. The quality stinks because the lighting in the dining room stinks (have the digital hooked up to the PC so can't take it to another room). But here they are...

Ok, so it is way cool to me!

Ok, so all this is bringing bakc so cool memories.

I remember when I was into tattoos there was a whole culture surrounding it. Like Max told me never to get a tattoo from this one guy who screwed people over a lot. He also said never to get a piercing, but I did...from the guy he warmed me about. It was like, war of the tattoo artists. Really wild.

So, a year or so after I started getting tattoos, the famous guy who owned the shop died. His name was Tom Slick. Really nice guy, let max live in the trailer behind the shop. I remember we would have to sneak in the back because it was a commercial lot and no one was supposed to live there. Oh, and then there was Terry. he was freaky at first but I came to really like him. He did my first tattoo. So I kind 'knew' him before I met Max. In fact I don't think max was there when I got my first. Anyway. Terry was a typical looking tattooist( in my mind anyway). He was really skinny, about 5'8" couldn't have weighed more than a buck fifty dripping wet (HA! my dad used to say that) slicked back hair (what's that hairstyle called?) and unbeknownst to me at that time...a full shirt of tattoos! he always wore really nice dress shirts (expensive too). But, Terry was cool... they were all cool. i was so into it I even wanted to start my own shop. Max even said I had talent (remember all these tattoos ended up being free- he only charged me for the first one he did, and of course I paid for the one Terry did). Gosh...

maya--my first was my daughter's birthday, tattooed across my upper left arm. It's like half an armband. Just the numbers 11899 (January 18, 1999). I get asked about it a lot (it sort of looks like a zip code :LOL) but I didn't want it to look like a date.
When my baby boy is born (due in about 10 weeks) I will get his birthdate added on to my daughter's birthdate, so there is a full ring of numbers circling my upper arm.

I have triple-pierced ears, used to have 2 cartilage piercings but took em out when pregnant with ds since they started hurting for the first time ever (and now they've closed up). Same with former navel ring, closed up while out when pregnant with ds. I also have a nose stud and an outer labia ring. I'm quite proud. :D

As for tattoos, I have a tattoo of a baby elephant on my left shoulder/back area, and once I'm done making babies and breastfeeding them, I'd like to get a chain of elephants (like how they walk in the circus) around my ankle.

I also have quite a few tattoos--the most recent was a star at the back of my neck, waaaaay back before I even knew I was pregnant with ds.
I had a quick question about getting a tattoo while still nursing--can I??? My ds is going to be a year old (!!!) in May, and I wanted to get a tat to commemorate that. I KNOW I'll still be nursing him in a year, and someone told me I should wait till he was weaned to get a new tattoo...but I don't think I can wait that long! :LOL
I also want one for my 30th birthday next January...heh.
Anyway, if you all could give me a reason why i should wait, or shouldn't...it'd be great!
Of course, I would go to a TOTALLY reputable and clean, sterile place...that's the only reason I could think of to wait...because of that worry...but if I don't have to worry about that...anyway, help?

anyway, i have posted here, ages ago, but here i am again,

i love piercings and tattoos. I have both sides of my nose pierced, 3/4" lobes, and 4 more holes in each ear, labret/lip pierced, and my navel and nipple piercings came out with pregnancy and birth arriving. Would like to repierce my nipples on day though. Didnt really increase sensation, I just liked the way it looked!!

I have 4 tattoos, but they are all small. I am often thinking about my next skin and ink adventure though, as next time it will be a big one. I like my little ones but they kind of float around, diplaced, yk? Actually, three are okay, but the second one i got, a celtic triskele on my back shoulder, I would have done differently. Its too dark, small and compact. I realise now, 10 years later, an image with tha sort of detail should be done bigger. Also, I think if I started over, I would do them all symmetrical, down the center of my body. Maybe i just feel unbalanced!!lol.
well, have a great day everyone!!

Had my nose and belly button pierced several times over the years. One tat that I pretend is not there. Bad tat, bad scene. I would really like it removed,vs covered, b/c it covers about 1/3 of my breast and some of the ink is pretty thick. Know of anyone in No. CA that can remove/cover it? I need a clean canvas so I can get a tat that looks and feels right, kwim?

I want my brow pierced...

BUT I don't want it done with a 14g (or is it 16?) that they use at the piercing places....

Can I bring in an 18 or 20g (or smaller) and have them use that ring? I'd be able to autoclave it myself, as I work at a doctors office. Or should I just let them do it with the big one then change it when i get home or in a few days?

(I know you're supposed to wait, but both my sisters and my ex-dp changed their various piercings within 1hr-1day of getting pierced...I am extremely careful, and like I said it would be sterilized and I also have sterile latex gloves)

I do not like the way the large rings look, and to be bratty, if I can't have the small delicate hoop that I want, I'd just as soon not get it pierced. I'm not piercing myself again (pierced my left brow once and it BLED...and I didn't have a clamp, so it was crooked--just a mess....I ended up with a HUGE bruise and no piercing!)

Also, I'd like one of those itty bitty noserings (the post ones with the rhinestone that are probably a smaller gauge than a sewing needle....kinda look like the person has a large sparkle on her nose)--same question applies as above, or should I just pierce it myself? And if so--with what?

LOL, I know I'm a PITA...
Sorry if this is rambling, but it's 6: 13am and I;ve been up since 9 yesterday morning! :blush

HELLO ALL!
O.K. so im finally signing in. I have 3 earpiercings, one that i am trying to stretch, an old nose piercing that i put something in every once in a great while, a non functioning belly hole that i did myself yers ago (not very well i might add!) and as for ink i have the outline of flames that look like wings on my back that my best girlfriend did when she got a tattoo kit and stars on my ankle that i did myself in high school with india ink and embroidery needles- they are still amazingly clear and dark even after all those years!
I am DYING to go and get some ink done! I have a couple of ideas, but just need to decide which to get and to suck up the "luxury" expense!!

Does anyone have any advice for stretching earholes? They are only at about a 10 right now....

Advice for stretching.....

Go slow :LOL They say to wait 4 weeks in between strrretches at a smaller sizes. But once you get to around 4g you should wait 6-8 weeks. I'm at a 2 and I have been for about 3 months. I'm waiting till this summer to stretch to a 0g. Why? Because the slower you go the less ilkely you are to develop scar tissue. Plus, if you go too fast it can cause blow outs and other non fun stuff.

Any idea where to buy the kind of earrings that you originally get pierced in your ears? For some reason I am allergic to EVERYTHING but the ones that they pierce my holes with. And I haven't been able to wear earring in any of my holes in a long time, because I can't seem to find them. (other than get another piercing!)
Hypoallergenic ones don't cut it, so the ones they use must be special in some way.

Usually they use 24 carat gold to pierce. So, you may have to buy from a good jeweler! :thumb

The thing is, I did think about maybe needing to buy something expensive. Ya know, cheap stuff might have been the prob? So I bought some 24 carat earrings, and my ears STILL got bright red and "goopy" inside. :bag: They hurt and itched. After an hour max, I can't take it anymore and have to take them out.

So if it isn't hypoallergenic, and it isn't 24 carot, what is it?? LOL Oh, I tried nickle free too... Nope. Very frusterating for me! I want to be able to actually WEAR earrings in my 7 holes ya know? :LOL

I had those exact same problems until I started gauging up. Even if you gauge to something small like 14 or 16g. You can't even tell those are gauged. NOw I can wear anytype of metal in my ears when before i coulnd't wear anything.

That would be my advice. Try just gauging one set of wholes and see what happens.

A purple shroom on my left shoulder and, and a fire faery in between my shoulder blades. I want more and have many ideas for more, but, money is the issue.

I have my ears pierced twice and my tounge done. I love it and never regretted it for a moment. I want to get my nose done, but not crazy with the idea of having a cork shoved up my nose. Is that the way they still do it?

Um, to be honest...my dh just put the first ones in. I think they were 14g. You can by cbrs that small at Claires in the mall. THey hurt for about 2 days and after that the stretches were fairly painless, except for 8g and 4g.

Just found this thread.. As of right now, I have two tattoos and 5/8" earlobes.
Iv'e had many piercings in the past that i've taken out for one reason or another (including 6 that are kinda TMI..)..
I'd like to get a 00 conch and vertical tragus. As for tattos i'm planning a 5" thick solid black band on each upper arm, with red sillouhette thistles on my inner arm. (any artist suggestions for portland?)

its_our_family have you seen bmezine.com? They have lots of photos and written accounts about EVERYTHING..... Should be a good place to get the branding info you need.

I'm getting a tat!!! I'm getting a tat!!! I'm getting a tat!!!

I'm so freakin excited I can't stand it! I went in and checked out the guy's work today. It's awesome. I'm getting the tatoo on my lower back... I have a necklace my sis brought back from Ireland with a triquetra charm that is gorgeous in color. So I'm having him do that in the center of my lower back, with some black swirls/vines/tribal coming from either side (I'll have to scan them so you know what I mean). I've been told the lower back can hurt, though. I have really high pain tolerance (been through a lot), so I think I'll be OK. Just in case though, any suggestions for an alternate location? I want a place where I can show off the tatoo when I want, but hide it easily when I want.

I have a question though... no matter where I have it placed, I have to decide what size/height I want the tat to be. Any suggestions? I'm a tatoo virgin, so I have no clue. I don't want it to be glaringly huge, but I don't want it teeny either.

I'm also toying with the idea of getting my nostril pierced, but I'm gonna do the tatoo first and then decide from there.

fullofgrace<<<<< I have a tat on my lower back and it hurt a little but not alot. Tats are really not that painful(for me at least) I have one on my ankle neck lower back left chest area and right shoulder and the worst one pain wise was my ankle. Good luck and make sure you post pics when you get it done. :)

argh--I'm having computer trouble but I wanted to pop in before it messes up again.... :irked:

Congrats on the job halfdozenscrambled! :thumb

WitchyMama2--I started having similar trouble with my mine after I got pregnant with my first babe (about 11 years ago) and what I found with mine is that I cannot wear earrings with backs no matter what they are made of. I wear small sterling silver hoops in all 12 of my ear piercings (some cartilage) and as long as I leave the hoops in, I have no trouble at all. (I guess those hook type would work too but i don't ever change mine anyway.) Probably gauging up a little bit would help as well though--good luck!

I'm gonna go before I push my luck with the computer...

fullofgrace--I only have one tat on my back. It was fairly painful. Everyone told met hat once it was started the area would go numb and it wouldn't be felt...that was BULL!! I felt every needle prick! My dh said the same thing. He felt every bit of it as well.

Would I change getting my tat?? NO

Will I get another one?? YES! I have 6 more planned. I just need the cash!

I really want my septum done but dh is poo pooing the idea so I doubt I'll get it. BUt I am getting my nostril done. :D And a couple other areas as well. :wink

I think it wsa Starmama who said, Make sure the tat fits the space. Tell your artist you want it to fit. Not big not little. They should be able to make you happy. Plus, if they use transfers they should be able to try size and stick it on. If you don't like it they can change it.

Congrats!!! :thumb Your tat sounds awesome! My hummingbird & flower was my first tat, at the age of 33 this past fall. It's centered on my lower back (well, the flower at least-- the bird is off-center), and the part that hurt the worst was the spine area. Also, for me, the outline hurt more than the color fill. A few outlying areas didn't hurt at all, just felt a bit scratchy.

For something like a triquetra, if you decide against lower back, maybe the back of your shoulder would work. If it's going to be larger than, say, the diameter of a coffee mug, you don't want it to "overpower" the space it's in. Your artist should be able to find a good fit for you with the size/location.

Thanks for the congrats, 13moons! I should be able to finish off the celtic vinework around mine by the end of April, when I get my first paycheck! :love

I ended up getting it on my low back, at the bikini line, so I can hide it when I want and show it off when I want. I went in at 11am and we worked on the design (well I described and gave my triquetra charm as an example, he drew... it was great because I described what I wanted for vines/ribbons and he was able to put it down on paper for me, since I just can't draw! lol), and finally got started at about 11:40am. I was done in less than an hour! It didn't hurt as much as I had worried at ALL! (Of course for me with my high pain threshhold, pain is all relative. I had a damaged tooth last week and had a root canal on Thursday.) A couple places hit me with a tickling sensation even, so I had toruble keeping still for those parts. Near my spine hurt the least, which I didn't expect. It hurt more further away.

All in all, it was a GREAT experience, and it turned out exactly like what had in my head, so I'm happy! :D

I brought my digital camera, and he took a pic for me:

That is so CUTE! I love the colors!!

My sad news...my tat guy Sean, went back to CA!! I have on artist now :(

But one of the guys that worked with him bought the shop. So, I looked at his work and I think I like it better than Seans! Oh, and after looking at my tat I need touch ups. SOme of the ink rejected. Anyway, the guy does custom work and hardly any flash, which is fine cause I ain't a flash fan for the most part.

andrea-- DO you still check this thread?? If so, or if anyone else knows...

Does anyone out there have a good artist in NH or nearby? It seems like all the really good work is done out west or down towards NJ, and I can't reasonably travel that far. I prefer to work with someone really good, and who is more interested in custom than flash, but I haven't found anyone around here. I've heard Juli Moon is good, but her website does not do her work justice if that's true. Any thoughts?

Hello everyone....
I've never posted here before. I'm thinking about getting a tattoo -- I just don't know exactly what I want done. I need some inspiration. I was thinking about doing something that symbolizes my dd's and the baby that I lost b/c of m/c. I like dragons (not the typical Chinese dragons) and thought about getting something like that, but then I also started thinking that I could do something with their zodiac signs (I like astrology), they are both Scorpios; but then I thought what would I do if we have another baby, how would I incorporate his/her sign, esp. if it's different into that. Or should I just go with hearts? I just don't know. I keep going back to idea of a dragon, but just don't know how I'd incorporate dd's and the lost baby into it, KWIM?
I'm lucky as I have a VERY talented younger brother who is an artist and can draw me whatever I ask; I asked him for some inspiration, but he just said he didn't know.
Any ideas?? I know I have to pick something I REALLY like, I just need a little help.
Thanks!
Jessica

I have no helps in the Minneapolis area.

As for incorprating dragons and your children. You could have the dragon have a design in its back that represented each child. I have a shoulderblade tat that is a trinity symbol with my dh and ds1 and ds2's names around it in a circle.

My next one, hopefully in the next week or 2. Will Be I AM in hebrew and little wispies around it. I've had 2 m/c and some day they will be represented by sweetpea blossoms on my breast, or little feet beside my trinity symbol. NOt sure which.

ah the "should I get inked while breastfeeding question"....I went through this and this is what I found out:

I could find zero information that should that is was harmful to baby
(as long as you were going to a professional who had a clean facility) but a quite famous tattoo artist friend of mine who studied with the Japanese masters said that a wise master once told him to never tattoo a breastfeeding woman--not for health reasons but I think because they considered it taboo because woman and child are one during their breastfeeding relationship.
So I inquired my personal artist about it and he said he saw no reason not to tattoo while BF (his wife with a newborn was about to get ink...). So this is what i did with this information:
I won't get tattooed if my baby is exclusively breastfeeding, so I have made it a ritual to get inked when my children turn a year or about 18 months as a special rite of passage for myself as a mother. Also while i am getting inked, i know my hubby can feed the baby something else so I don't have to breast feed during a session. This is becasue I know what getting tattoed does to my body--the adreneline, that whacked-out jittery feeling and pure hunger afterward...I don't want to share that energy with baby. that's what i did.. I hope you can find your own way. And if anyone has anything more scientific that would be great too.
the sad thing is that before my large forearm daughter tribute piece was completed (the black and white outline was laid, and I was going back for color) I got pregnant! (well that's not the sad part..) So I've been waiting to have it done and new baby is 8 months so i've got a few to go. the sad part is that my friend and super talented artist passed away last month, very suddenly at the age of 31 of a heart attack. He left his wife and 18 month old daughter behind and it is soooo hard. They own a shop in Portland Oregon called Optic Nerve Arts which is still operating and if anyone lives in that area they should stop in and check out the fantastic art gallery there and support the business. He was by far the most talented artist/tattoo artist in the area and he is greatly missed. check out his art here:

http://www.ziphoid-process.com/

I feel privaliged to have his artwork, on my arm to look at every day, and in that respect he will live on forever. I am not sure what to do about the piece as I don't feel comfortable letting anyone else finish his work. I'll figure it out.

Anyway sorry this post took a different turn, but that is my experience with the tattoo/BF question. Good luck.

I thought you'd all disappeared when I came to look. I nearly started a new thread but managed to find you all on page 3.

I've been around a teensy bit thead killing in the mindful home management forum. I've got too many small children & too much outdoor work & too many animals to get that much computer time these days - other than working that is. Plus I am still on dialup which is glacially slow with all the banner ads here. But it is winter now so I have more dark time at nights. Just over 1 month to go to the solstice - yay! :D

For my next tattoo I want to plan something more tribal. But more for my tribe. I would kind of feel a bit wierd with some sacred dayak or maori art on me. I found some pictures of this woman they found in Siberia somewhere who was 2,500 yrs old who had tattoos. She was pazyrk (sp?) They looked quite out of it. Then when I was looking for pictish art, I found somewhere how someone said that the picts were rumoured to be scythians/pazyrk initially. So yeah, I am still plotting what to do.

I have a Sacred Heart (of Jesus) on my back and a sort of tribal armband on my right arm....I have a monroe piercing that I have had now for 4 years and everytime I think I am gonna retire it someone tells me its cute and I decide to keep it... :LOL My next endeavor is maybe maybe some stretchin' of the lobes-debating-definetly on my way to a trinity symbol on the back of my neck...also I HATE armbands now (YUCK got mine at 17-who knew?) so I am planning to atleast add a cross with similar stroke above it so it kinda looks all together....I love a small stud in my nose but with my monroe it would be too much to have 2 piercings in one side.I have had my labret, septum, nostril, tongue and lip pierced and have moved on to simpler ways in the last several years.... :LOL

I have 1 tat (in no man's land just above and to the left of my pubic bone. yes I have to shave over it or it becomes invisible:LOL) of a rose with a long, thorned stem. And 5 piercings (if ears count). 1 in my navel and 2 in each ear. I had 6 but was misinformed and took out my tongue ring a couple of months ago (I had it for 4 years, had dd, got thrush followed by infection after antibiotics with dd's labor. Go figure! I thought antibiotics were supposed to help! My dr. told me I had to remove it.) but I think I'm getting it redone. I miss it!

aja_belly, I had my navel ring in for my entire pg, too. Way to hang in there!

So far I just have some piercings. My ears are double pierced plus there is one piercing on the right side of my nose. I've had that for ... 15 years now. I've been wanting a tattoo for years but haven't found sufficient reason to do it. It has to be something important, like a milestone in my life or something. Since I'm pregnant with my first baby, I finally have that milestone. I'm getting a turtle tattoo after the baby is born. Now I just have to find a good artist with a good reputation here in town.

I'll bite. I also used to have my nose pierced, but had to take it out for work related reasons (putting in spacers and taking it out all the time gave me a little bit of an infection.) I would like to have it put back in.

I have 4 tats - one of which is on my right pelvic bone. After I had my daughter, it got messed up with stretch marks. So, I won't be posting a pic of it. :bag:

Here are the 3 pics of my tats:

The ones on my arms I had plans to turn into arm bands with match smoky swirls, but the tat artist I used had moved to NY city, and I haven't found anybody's work that I like well enough yet. I may now change each arm band to have each of my kids names - the Fortune Symbol with the baby if he is a boy - the heart symbol with Emma, but I am not sure yet.

At the end of the summer I'm going to get my nose pierced for the 4th time. I let them all close up for various reasons, but I'm ready again.
I got my tongue pierced 12 years ago, but let it close up a few years ago after I had to get one of my molars crowned because I bit down on the barbell twice.
I had my navel pierced about 15 years ago, and took it out 6 years later after I gained some weight.

Ah, but tattoos. Can't have just one. I have 6 plus one that's covered up.
Here's (http://homepage.mac.com/luckylamb/Parthenia/PhotoAlbum15.html) my pride and joy--work in progress.

Um, MrsMoe-- Can I see a pic of the stretch marked one. I'm interested to see what stretching does to one.

I love the arm piece!! The one I just had done a month or so back is turning into something similar size wise, not deign. I'm glad to see it on someone. You don't see them in that location very often..... I call it an arm shield. You know, like in medieval armor.

wow there are so many of us modded mamas!!!
I currently have only my lobes stretched to 3/4 inch and retired tongue, nostril, septum, nipples, vertical hood, and triangle.
as far as tattoos right now I have two wrist stars and my wedding ring inked. But my husband is about to be licensed as a tattoo artist and will be doing the rest of my work, well him and my good friend who is a tattoo artist. and I have BIG plans for ink.
not much of my skin will be its original color when my project is completed.

Anyone else feel like they are teaching their children about acceptance silently by being visably modded?

Yup, I think so. My kids have been around for all the piercings we have and that tats.

We aren't that heavily done...yet. I stretch to a 0g next week. I keep saying no bigger, well, just one more size.... it just keeps going :LOL

We go next wednesday fo touch up and hopefully some add on. I would love to learn to pierce. I'm thinking about it. I'm thinking of opening a store front that sells unusual things and I want to add body jewelery...not all the shiney cheesey belly button stuff. Real good stuff. Large guage (which you can't really find around here), bone, that kind of thing.

Anyway, i'm rambling....

What a great thread! I'm still new on MDC and just figuring out all the cool places to meet others!

Have just one tat- a locked infinity symbol on lower back, DH has identical on his. I am planning on adding to it, something for my two little ones, but not sure what yet. Anyone know a good artist in Denver area!?!?

naval piercing and usual ears- and kept naval all the way through both pregnancies- had to remember to take it out on the way in for c-section #2 (no jewelry in surgery :blush

oh... I guess I fit into this tribe! :) I have four tattoos, and used to have a nipple piercing, but took it out a few years ago (and I think it would have gotten in the way of nursing, anyway!)....

I have a dolphin on my right hip, a rose on my left breast, a tribal on my left ankle, and another tribal on my lower back... I want another one, too, but I can't decide what to get....

anyway, i have the pics on my blog, here (http://www.xanga.com/nursingmama).

i did borrow the pic from online, i figured i was probably safe since A.) i am not even getting the tattoo for sure and B.) it won't be for commercial use. i just LOVE the pics and wanted to play around designing a tattoo using it.

Hi...I have been :lurk: for a really long time (well, I posted a while ago), but I really love this tribe. :love
And I wanted to share my newest tattoo with you all:
http://pics.livejournal.com/rantfaery/pic/00013af6
http://pics.livejournal.com/rantfaery/pic/000113zz

The lettering above the lotus is Sanskrit, and reads, "mother".
Basically, my ds turned a year in May, and this year has been one of intense transformation for me, amazing, hard, beautiful transformation. :love So, I needed something that would symbolize all of that for me. Becoming a mothr, heading down this path, has been amazing and beautiful, and painful. Tattoos for me are the same. :) I had been planning the tat since about 6 months after the babe was born, and I researched everything before deciding to do it while still nursing (mostly worries about infection/reaction to tattoo ink...all of which wasn't a problem here--I heard more about getting ink while pg, which I am not!). So, all is well on that front.
Some of the meaning:
I found yoga again when I was pregnant, and the lotus symbolizes rebirth, my birth as a mother, my precious son's birth. Sanskrit is beautiful, and many of the yoga poses I do are in this language.
This is a VERY simplified explanation...but I have no other tattoo on my body that is so meaningful.
Plus, a pregnant woman helped me design the tattoo, and she inked me! It was perfect, as I lay there for two hours, we talked of motherhood, and I got to "impart my wisdom", such as it was, to a soon-to-be new mama.
What an amazing experience.
Thanks so much for letting me share it with you! :D I adore this thread.

p.s. It looks ouchie in the pic because DH took it the day after I got it. It's almost healed now. And ds hasn't really bothered it, though his head lays on it while he nurses. Long sleeves helped with that. :o

I actually planned when I first started getting tattooed to hold off on any areas that might get stretch-marked until AFTER I was done childbearing. Then, I figure any stubborn scars from stretching can be covered over w/ a cool tattoo...if I can get myself to sit still. I've avoided sensitive spots because, well, it hurts.

I have 7 tattoos: a raven and an owl on my back, an eagle with an American flag on my right shoulder (got it Summer '01 while on liberty in Saipan. I was patriotic before it was popular!), a butterfly with a tiger face in the wings on my right calf (also Saipan, a different trip. Wish I could go back there, I'd like to have him do some non-flash, he does good work--by he I mean the island's only resident tattoo and airbrush artist--he does airbrush on cars for the locals, tattoos mostly tourists), a spider on my right ankle, a rose with the words "Daddy's Girl" on my left ankle, and a valknot on my left breast, high enough up that it's not much affected by the lovely changes bf'ing has made to my breasts.

its_our_family-- my first tat was my husband's name on my left pelvic bone area (like where a bikini would cover it). It has stretch marks through it and in general it is stretched out now that I don't have a nice flat, pre-childbearing tummy anymore :LOL . I have never posted pics of my tats but we are borrowing our friend's digital camera right now and I'll see if I can get a decent pic of that one. (And the others.) It's not a fancy design or anything, just dh's name, but at least it might give some idea of the kind of damage stretch marks do to a tattoo. It's not pretty but I don't really worry about it since my dh is the only one who will see it anyway and he knows what it is, ya know? :wink

I'm going to tell him how I feel about this tat. I don't like it. I like the idea but it isn't finished and I think he pulled my skin too tight and it looks like a colored scar instead of a tattoo.

Anyone have this experience?

I had both my nipples pierced, one for several more years the the other. Took them both out during my pregnancy.
I can nurse fine, never had a problem...but sometime around ds's 9th month he started preferring the right breast over the left, until about 11 months, and since then he ONLY nurses on the right. :shrug I'm a little lopsided. :LOL
The left nipple always leaked more, and it still leaks, even though ds never nurses there...the left was the one I had pierced the longest.
Now, I am pretty sure the leakage is something to do with the piercing, but I think ds's preference is just HIM. :wink Both boobs made as much milk in the beginning, both got engorged, etc...so yeah.
Nothing really BAD happened because of the piercings, IMO.

I got my first tattoo today! I have waited soooo long to do this and am really happy. It does have special meaning behind it (long story) and did alot of research into what I wanted. What I finally decided on was two lion paw prints on the inside of my right ankle on an angle to each other done in shades of sepia and gold. The final size is about 2 inches by 4 inches. I have had such a rush of adrenaline all day and am already thinking of what I want next! :D

My eyebrow ring is surfacing (rejecting) a little and is laying flat now. Do you think that a ring with a smaller circumference would stand up a little more?

"Wearing jewelry of inappropriate design or dimensions often results in migration or rejection. A ring which is too small in diameter will constrict the piercing and cause the entrances of the piercing to migrate to relieve pressure and conform to the curvature of the ring." Piercing FAQ
So...a ring with a smaller circumference will make it stand up more, yes... but, if it is rejecting now, the smaller ring will cause it to reject even further...

Looking now at your pics in your sig, your ring does look a bit too big. You could try a smaller ring, but when doing that also try a smaller guage to try and take some of the weight off. If its currently rejecting you really have nothing to lose.
Also, I wanted to add that you really dont have enough of a "brow" to pierce...
This is why most brows reject, most people just dont have enough skin there or enough of a brow ridge to pierce properly, but shops do it anyways because thats what the customer wants and it pays the bills.
I actually do not know of anyone who has had a brow for any peroid of time, (long-term) they either wont heal, get hit on everything, or reject. Its really not a good place for a piercing, but its trendy, so, hey..... :LOL

I do work in the industry so you can take my advice or leave it, :nut but I do know what Im talking about!

Yea, I did know that many brow piercings eventually reject. I was under the impression that it was a fairly traditional spot though. For the record, I got it done at a well respected shop, by the owner, who has many years of experience. I trust that he did it in good faith.

Thanks for looking at the pics I’m going to change to a smaller ring soon and I’ll let you all know how it looks.

I've considered a brow piercing but I'm concerned about rejection too.

I really like it and, even though it hurt and took a while to heal and is rejecting, it was worth it. Although, I may change my mind when I see how badly it scars.

Oh girl, eyebrow piercings can either be a blessing or a damnation. I had my right eyebrow done first, which of course never healed. I finally took it out when I got tired of not being able to sleep on that side of my face.

The left eyebrow was done about 6 months later with hopes of healing, and although it almost did...me and my husband were a bit too rough all the time, and the last straw was when the back of his head caught it as we were messing around with my car trying to change the brakes.

The second time I had the right one done, it had healed up pretty damned nice, but then I noticed that it would have some redness/swelling every couple of weeks, so I went back to the shop where I got it done and sure enough it was being rejected. I told them to go ahead and take it out right then and there, as much as I loved having it done.

Now, since I'm a sucker for facial piercings, I had always loved the ones on this girl that was in one of my classes in high school. She had both sides of her bottom lip done. Of course, I will admit it took me 5 years to get the guts to have them done, especially since I had thought the pain from one would make me run and scream. The opposite happened though. I was like oh...now my face is numb from the pain. So I got my lip piercings and even though I look funny just wearing really short barbells in them, I love them. Make sure you get someone reputable for it though, because my mistake was having someone who was really good at other piercings...but mine are tilted in the wrong direction, so they sit funny on my teeth.

I also have my tongue done though, and since that was my first piercing...it's definately my favorite. (And no, with anyone who isn't whiney, it doesn't make them talk funny)

As for tattoos, I have one on my inner left ankle that is just a black cat cover-up for something I had done when I was 16 (bad idea). Only cost me $50 and healed up nicely. Hasn't really faded that I can tell either.

The other one is on my back, but it's like a boney winged type thing with a heart in the middle...sort of a morbid tribute to love I suppose. Cost me $150 and about an hour out of my day...plus not being able to roll over onto my back for fear of screwing it up. I've loved it the most because it's RIGHT at my waistline and I just barely have to pull the waistband of my pants down if anyone wants to see it. Of course it's meant more for husband's viewing pleasure than my own, and often times I forget it's even there.

All in all...I'm just waiting for money to get more.

I have a question for ya'll. I'm thinking about getting about getting another tat (not the original reason I came here, but whatever ;) ) and would like to hear your opinion.

I would like to get a triple moon down with maybe a lotus or something within the full moon. But I would like to get it on my very upper back, just below my neck, kwim? I was thinking, should I have it going legnth wise (like crescent, then ful, then crescent) or just horizontal?

And as for the reason why I was pointed over hear was, I am thinking about getting my eyebrow pierced. I already have my nose done (had a couple others but took them out) and I'm not sure if it would look too much on me. Dh doesn't want me to do it, but too bad, LOL. I told him it's up to me!

Hey there. I'm new to the tribe. I am currently tat/piercing-less, but had a nipple piercing for a few years that I loved. Sadly, it got pulled har (not out) and the tissue damage was healing, so I removed the ring. I later learned that the ring diameter was a bit too small for the size of my nipple and that may have contributed to the delayed healing both initially and after then injury.

I have been thinking about getting a horizontal hood piercing, Mamas. DH really wants me to and I'm inclined, but nervous.

Here's my concern and I'd like your opinion about whether it's a valid concern or not.

When men are circumcised as adults, they often report a great increase in sensitivity. However, if you talk to them down the road and they are at all in touch with themselves, they report that the increase was temporary, followed by a slow decline due to being overstimulated.

I am concerned that all of the reports by women of increased pleasure are only reports after a short time (even a few years later is relatively short) and that nobody is reporting (or maybe not in tune with themselves enough to notice the slow decrease over the years.)

So, in your infinite MDC wisdom, please tell me if I should delve deeper into the topic or if I'm being paranoid. I guess that becoming an intactivist has made me genital-nerves sensitive. :)

Jaclyn,
Hyper-sensitivity, nerve damage and desensitization have all been reported.
Who really knows how common they are, as you mentioned, a lot of women are out of touch with their bodies but a lot of times also, these problems can be resolved by changing the type, guage or size of the jewelry, or simply removing it.
I certainly believe that this type of piercing has potential for long-term dammage. But that is a decision that is up to the individual to weigh.

past VNE, you might want to use the search this thread option at the top of the replies page in this thread. This topic has been discussed before regarding that piercing location by some who have it.

Sorry I can't remember who or which page.

Arduinna, I actually have...before I posted. I found lots of "I have a xx piercing, a xx tat, a tat here and there and a hood piercing, too." and I found a few "I'm thinking about adding a hood piercing." but I didn't find any discussion on longterm effects or possible damage from it.

Thanks for the tip!

I have had no breastfeeding problems with my (now gone) left nipple piercing. It leaked a lot more initially, but is now equal. It is a bit more sensitive when Jett nurses, sometimes a bit painful...but not bad at all.

I squirt in a few more directions on that side! ;)

hi,
ananga here, i'm a sahm mama to our two boys, nava 25 m/o & nitya 2 m/o. i love my ink and would like more but dh would like me to ease up on the tats and holes.

i've got twoi pieces on each arm, two on the upper back, one lower back and one across the chest. i now only have my lobes stretched to 00 gauge and my left nostril pierced, but i used to have my septum both tragus, and upper cartilage in both ears pierced, as well. not to mention both my nipples (but now i nurse) and my tongue stretched to a 0g.

peace,

Hey mamas,

I have posted here a few times.

I have decided to get a new tattoo. i am going to try to cover over a tattoo i have on my arm. its 2 hearts one with dd's name and one with her dads name. its not the names that i dont like its the whole tattoo. it wasnt shaded very well and the guy kinda messed up on coloring the name bands.

So i was thinking of doing our 3 zodiac signs over that spot. My questions are, does a cover up hurt more than a reg tattoo? anyone have any good links for pictures of zodiac signs?

I was thinking of doing the scorpio scorpion and the cancer crab next to eachother with the picses fish surrounding it. i am cancer dd's father is scorpiio and she is piecies (sp) so it would be her that brings or keeps us together.

well any ideas or links would be great.

TIA

Has anyone come across a good pic of a phoenix? I think I've finally decided on my next tattoo design (which has gone from being my next tattoo to my next three--I can't help myself!), but I'm hunting for a good, not creepy, phoenix. Also, I know there's symbolism to the Lotus that some of you have mentioned--can someone tell me the common symbolism? It's a beautiful flower to have tattooed.

Thank you!

Well, as I neither have a lotus flower tattooed nor have I ever looked up the symbolism behind it, I am probably not the right person to answer....but I will anyway. :LOL As I understand it, it has to do with the fact that the lotus grows in swamps and mud banks, so not the best of conditions for something so beautiful to sprout from. And it is a symbol of rebirth...here's a quote:
"It closes in the evening and falls to the water; in the morning it opens and is lifted above the surface. Its behaviour emulates that of the sun. Because of this rising and setting, it is also a symbol of death and rebirth."

HTH! :hippie

My hubby is getting a whole back tat of a pheonix coming out of flames. He had to have it drawn up though because we couldn't find a good pic either...and who doesn't want a custom back tat!

hi all, i posted a couple times in here before but then disappeared... i just got my right nostril pierced (yay) and also have stretched my first (of three on each ear) lobe holes to a 10. i had a navel piercing but i took it out when i got pregnant and now the hole is really small :crap anybody have some tips for working it back up to size? a 22g still fits right through, but all the 12-14g stuff i have is too big. maybe just some hoops, from like 22-12g? ugh that seems arduous. i have a small tat on my back and got a new one on my left calf this april :love i have another one planned for my breastplate, under the collarbones, slated for late september :love
anywhoooo.... i've been doing a lot of research on nipple piercing lately. actually in victorian times, women pierced their nipples to help enlarge them and the breast and to make nursing easier. to enlarge a breast would be great, since my daughter prefers the left and it is waay bigger
she is 11 months old and we still nurse several times a day, and i don't foresee that changing anytime soon.
my question is, has anyone gotten a nipple pierced while they are still lactating? i know she wouldn't be able to nurse off of it for a while, at least 6 months right? and i'd have to gently express milk by hand, and be vigilant for mastitis...
is this crazy? can this work? i'd really like to get at least one pierced, and i don't plan on ever stopping lactating (we want another in 2-4 years and i'm sure our first will still be bfing), so i know i have to work it around that.
so yeah, help!

thanks so much, in advance!

that's cute... especially without the scorpion as you later mentioned, so just a crab surrounded by two fish... i have a tat of two fish on my left calf, here's a link: http://www.petabit.net/gallery/newtattoo/DSCF1924
it was adapted from this picture: http://www.petabit.net/gallery/newtattoo/fish
the space between them could be enlarged so a crab fits in, or you could even just use two of the top or bottom fish for a more uniform look... new tattoos are so fun :D

you know, i would definitely say horizontal, as this is the traditional direction of the triple moon, but also because it will enhance/accentuate/elongate your shoulder line. i think a lotus in the full moon is a beautiful idea, or a faerie perhaps? here are some pictures: http://www.petabit.net/gallery/tatttooideas
also.... check out http://www.luckyfishart.com
amazing celtic tattoo designs, there's a great triple moon called "priestess moonlight" i think it's in lower back? also "moon ribbon" and "moon maiden". her art is just so awesome....

You could do what I did, and just force it through. It hurt at first, but as long as I didn't wear tight clothes around it, it stopped hurting after a few days. Now its back to its old size.

Hi,
I had pireced nipples and it made nursing my first excriciating even w/o the jewelry in.

I'd seriously not recommend you pierce during your breastfeeding years. The piercing will result in quite a lot of discomfort, to say the least. Most likely you would end up weaning, as you'll be so tender. Healing will take some time, could take a year even. The piercing could become injured once you do resume breastfeeding. And the healed piercing could result in scar tissue which may result in lots of duct plugging and pain. You already know the risk of mastitis.

Don't have apic, but thought I'd say that I have avery cool phoenix on my back, moreso at the bottom of neck/top of spine. It's only about 4 inches, though. I do :love it!
