I only have one tattoo that was done on a whim in college (of course LOL!) it's kinda awkard when I think about it though cause the tattoo guy had a thing for me and we were partying and I got reallly drunk and had a one night stand with him. He didn't get the one night part and started stalking me. So while I love the tat, the memory of it isn't so good. On the other hand, it reminds me of my totally awesome roommate who got one done the same time as me :) I've wanted another tat for awhile now but dh doesn't like tattoos. I'll get it done someday though, I'm addicted to them now.

Hi! I have 3 Tats and I think 14 peircings..... if you count my ears. I have a tribal across my chest a flame on my lower back and a black widow on my wrist. I want more tats, who else is with me? The only problem is that my Husband doesn't like Tattoos! :irked:

I'm DYING for more ink, but I'm now I'm pregnant again, so it'll have to wait :( MY husband doesn't mind them, and he wants more himself (he only has 1) but he doesn't think I should get more. WHATEVER ;)

Theres a couple reasons. I love the outdoors, although I don't get much chance to be in it, and all my good memories of childhood involve playing in huge piles of leaves. My DW and I are also wiccan, and I love the idea of being a walking talking greenman.

Piercedboy-- I think that is pretty neat (hehehe I said neat)

I had a back piece planned but now I'm rethinking what I want.

Oh, and it happened. A little boy told my son that his mommy looked weird. T was kinda like. No, THAT is my mom! and he pointed at me. He was confused cause the moomy he knows isn't weird looking! :D

Hi mamas,

I am currently 7 weeks pregnant with baby #1 and trying to figure out 1) whether I should remove my naval piercing and 2) if so, when?

For people who have dealt with this in the past, if you remove the naval piercing can you put it back in afterwards, or do you need to get it re-pierced? I've had this one for over 10 years. TIA for your help.

For what it is worth, I removed mine because I heard it stretched worse if you didn't. It was kind of getting akward around 6 months too. I don't know if that information is right though, its just personal experience and what I heard. I ended up with a small stretch mark where the piercing was, and I didn't have any others so that was a bit strange.

What I'm wondering is ..
I'm breastfeeding a 6 month old and my husband and I would like to get tattoos. Is there a rule against this when breastfeeding? Risks?
Thanks ladies!

if you are wearing internally threaded jewelry (you cannot see the threading when looking at the post as opposed to externally threaded jewelry which means the threads or "bumps" are visable) then you need to get a longer post (upsize) and there should be no problem. many women beleive they have to take it out but really it just needs to grow to fit your beautiful growing belly. if it is still uncomfortable then you can take it out. after having it for 10 years it is highly likely that you will NOT need to be repierced, but just have it tapered back in. hope that helps!

ah the question....i think the general consensus around here and from tattooist is that there is no medical/biological reason to not get tattooed. the risks are the same if you were not breastfeeding--contracting hep or some other bloodborne ewey from using tools that are unproperly sterilized (ask to see the autoclave...). as far as the ink goes it is considered safe and does not pass into your milk.
i asked this question myself a few years back. for me getting tattoo is a draining and exciting event physically. your adrenaline gets going and then you are ravenous afterward....i just didn't want to share that energy with my nursling until she could eat enough solids and i would not have to nurse her until i calmed down. of course my session was about four hours and if i had been getting a little tattoo that took little time then it might have been different. my .02!

i started getting tattooed again 5 mo pp. it hasn't been a problem. you might want to check on the ingredients in the ink though, to make sure you aren't putting any heavy metals into your body.
my feelings are:
breastfeeding is a normal state for an adult woman's body to be in for many years and you don't need to be extra careful because of it.

I have 2 tatts and going to get 2 more tonight. I have my ears pierced, nose, navel and tongue. I have only 2 holes in my ears but used to have 6 in my left and 4 in my right.

Now, I am wanting to stretch the holes in my ear lobes. Can anyone tell me how I would go about doing this??

I was pierced when I was 4yrs old so that's 28yrs ago. I do have a reputable piercing store to go to but would some ideas before I go in.

This is easily accomplished by very slow stretching. I would recommend going into an APP aproved piercing shop and just asking questions. Any reputable piercer will be willing to share some advice. If you want to go in already having a good idea of what is involved, I'd recommend http://www.bmezine.com. Try checking in the encyclopedia, it lists common stretching methods as well as dangers.

I saw the post asking about getting tat. while BF'ing and I wondered if its the same thing with getting pierced? I went to get my nose done a couple weeks ago (BF'ing a 15 month old) and the guy said he wouldn't do it. He acted like I could just come back in a couple months when I was "done" - I was like "No, its gonnna be like 10 years if I wait till I'm done BFing!" (okay, maybe not QUITE that long!)

Any other mamas get pierced while BF'ing? What's the deal with it anyway?

Only one tattoo so far though I want more (dh has only one also and is DYING for more. But besides the price and being in debt...he wants a black victorian style chest peice and most tattoo artists do traditionals...anyone know a good victorian style tattoo artist in CA or even AZ?). DH and I both used to have center lip rings at different times but have removed them for work. Other than that I just have my ears done.

I just had the neatest experience yesterday I wanted to share with you guys :)

I was at Target, returning something, and an old woman (over 60 at minimum) was at the register next to me. She turned around and complimented me on my star tattoos! :) At first she said "your tattoos..." and then was interupted by another employee doing something or other, bringing her a product or something, and I thought 'oooh boy, is she going to say something rude?'.

But then when she was finished she turned back around and said "Your tattoos! They are so nice, and really complimentary. I like them a lot!".

Wow! I've never gotten compliments for my work from an older person before! And MOST comments from people who aren't tattooed (ok she COULD have hidden tattoos, but I mean people who don't have visible work or don't look like the "type" yk?) is more along the lines of "didn't that HURT?!" (esp about my big Orion piece) and not really about the beauty of my work (which is why I get them, I think they are beautiful).

I hear you! I have had so many negative comments thrown my way for being a heavily tattood female, that when a positive one comes along i automatically go "HUH?"! ;)

It's so awesome when it comes from someone unexpected. :thumb

Another tattooed mama here!

I have 2 tats now: a red butterfly on my back hip (essentially the top of my butt) and purple celtic knot around it.

They were both symbolic and cathartic. My friend who was with me for the butterfly was murdered and going through the 2nd as a symbol of life was really empowering to do on my own.

I have 2 ear holes, but don't wear earrings all the time-no good reason.

I had my navel pierced for about 6 years, but took it out a little while ago because I was tired of it. I don't know if I could get a ring back in or not. But I am ok with that.

I really wanted a flaming eternity symbol on the back of my neck for a long time, still kind of do, but I had to decide about whether I was willing to be known as "that tattooed social worker" so I decided to wait. But I still have it on my computer ready to go, so maybe when I quit to be a SAHM, eh?!

And hubby is psuedo-needlephobic, but wants to get a tattoo in my honor on my 30th bday (his first wife died at age 29.) I said yes, but I get another too then!

Great to find this tribe!

oh, no! What happened? I would call the tattoo artist and see what they can do. I've noticed that every artist is different as far as washing, lotion, neosporin, so I won't offer advice that way.

Hello, all. I'm new here; this is my first post, but I thought this was as good a thread as any to start with! No babies or pregnancy yet, but hopefully will be TTC at some point in the next two years.

As far as tattoo care, the consensus among my heavily-tattooed friends is to go with the method recommended by my artist: clean with antibacterial soap every 3-5 hours, apply a washcloth as hot as you can stand for fifteen seconds, then a thin layer of A+D for the first five days. Both of my tattoos have stayed looking great using this method, and I've had minimal flaking and itching.

I have nipple piercings (OK, confession time - I didn't read all 91 pages of this thread). Can anyone give me any information on whether or not I'll need to remove these for pregnancy and breastfeeding?

And the tattoos:
One, "seraphim" transcribed in Elvish on my back. This only took about an hour and a half and didn't hurt much at all.
http://flickr.com/photos/jeniac/261469904/

Two, a Yoshitaka Amano painting on my right thigh, still in progress; I'll be getting the first of the shading done on Thursday. Boy, howdy, did the outline hurt or what? By the end I kept muttering to myself under my breath, "own the pain, own the pain"....

Here's mine...I designed it on summer solstice and had it tattooed on my 30th birthday.
The top rune means 'the home within' and represents my hubby, the side two mean 'fertility or new beginings' and represent my kids, and the bottom rune means 'total awakening or 180 degree turn around' and the two of them represent the twins I miscarried. The sword in the middle is me....with my infinate energy. :)

I'm glad to hear at least one person say I can leave my piercings in. I really love them, and they mean a lot to me (I got them as a physical manifestation of my strength at a difficult time in my life). I'd hate to lose them.

I got some more work done on my leg piece last night. I am in love with it. The photo is really of poor quality (I took it myself, and the light bulb had burnt out, so it's all A&D flashy and distorted looking) but I am dying to share it. It's going to be amazing when it's done (I think it's amazing now, but I probably had better think that, right?).

hi :wave

Just dropping in. I have one teeny tiny tattoo on my right ankle. It's A Leo sign stylized to look somewhat like a music note. I wanted to get a tattoo and couldn't decide what, the only thing that had any sort of meaning to me is my Zodiac sign (Leo). My g-ma and I also have the same bday so it's meaningful in that way as well.

I only have one pic and I don't love it (the picture not the tattoo), but just for fun here. (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14/diagonalchristian/PROM2061.jpg)

I'm really wanting to get another one sometime soon, probably bigger and bolder, but I have no idea what or where.

Here's links to pics of my newest work of art:love . I got it done about 8 weeks ago and now it's just finally totally healed. The photos are from right after it was done, so the blue of the wind is lots lighter now. The cherry blossom symbolism is heavy for me, especcially with the wind blowing the blossoms... and each flower represents someone I love, from my daughter(1st blossom on calf) to my beloved companion of 11 years, my German Shepherd, Eli!

my leg (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/zoedogberry/detail?.dir=37f6re2&.dnm=8b8bre2.jpg&.src=ph)

THe second photo in the album is just a(blurry) close up, and the third is my DH's newest piece, a poppy blossom, which has several very strong meanings for us, and is his nickname.

Lots of lovely work here!

I never thought that I would ever want a tattoo, and then I met my husband, who is a tattoo artist. He has around 30 tattoos, and has had just about everything pierced.

The weekend that we got pregnant (not trying to, not at all) he started a tattoo on me. I was kind of a wuss, so he just did the outline and was going to finish the rest in a few weeks. Then we found out I was pregnant, so of course, it had to wait. Now he wont touch it until we are done breastfeeding either. He doesnt want to take the chance.

you won't be able to find a good piercer who will pierce you during a pregnancy. your immune system is compromised, not the best time to ask it to heal a piercing.

Hi all. I visited a tattoo shop. I am gonna do it. The artist that I had found from the internet was the one at the shop so it worked out great. He is really excited to do it. It will cost a whopping $2,000 (not including tip) and be at least 4 sittings. :yikes: The first sitting will be as long as I can handle sitting there (or as close to 8 hours as I can stand) It will be on the 23rd
We are by no means rich so the price about made me fall over. But this is something I have been wanting to do for years.
The artist said that we pay at each session. So that will break it up. It is a present from dh. I told him I would pay the tip if he paid for the tat. So I better get saving up. I only work 7 hours a week. :o
So who would I do the tipping? Tip when I pay after each sitting or wait till the end and tip all at once. And 20-25% is typical for tipping?

Hope you all don't mind me joing your tribe. I am not into piercings just the tattooing

tofumama

I posted to your other thread :)
I tip after each sitting. I have never done 20-25%, I have a flat tip I always give, and I give it no matter how long I sit.

8 hours is a LONG time. I have a very high pain threshhold, and the longets I have been able to sit so far is almost 6 hrs. I would maybe consider starting with less hours and see how you do. Also that area will be incredibly sore for a few days, and the longer you sit the worse it will be.

Do you have other tattoos?

candipooh

Do you have other tattoos?

Just one small one on my ankle. The lady that did it was recovering from getting breast implants and was moving very slow. She decided to only charge me $55 for it. I expected to pay a lot more so I tipped her almost 100% It is classic pooh bear. I have a pictureif you want to see it :shy

I have been reading up on tipping and it is staggering on how different people's opinion is. The basic jist on what I am reading is that tipping your artist is not required. Some wont even except it. Most though will be really happy with any tip. Even non money tips they seem to enjoy.

I really won't be able to drop $500 on a tip so I am not sure yet what I will do. I WILL tip.

Some gals brought in cookies or baked goods for all of the tattoo shop. I thought that sounded fun. But I will wait till my 4th or 5th session when I get a feel for the guys at the shop.

Oh...and the artist is very good looking and is obsessed with Lord of the Rings :drool He has "the eye" on his neck and the words from "the one ring" on his arm. . Very cool. http://www.piratecitytattoo.com/door/ Here is the web page to the shop. The artist is named David. I told him that I really didn't want a black outline with the color filled in. He has started to do some flower tats (look for the lilly and the lotus flower in his galery) where he does the outline in the color of the flower. That is excatly what I wanted. He really added to my idea. He would ask me questions and seemed pleased when I left a lot up to him as the artist.

I am excited and nervous at the same time. That is a LOT of money. I let my dh know that it is okay if he doesn't get me any more gifts for 10 years. :lol

I am not really nervous about the pain part. I guess I should give it more thought. Ever since having children I look at pain a different way. :wink Except in labor you get breaks inbetween contractions.

I am sure as it gets closer I will have a lot more questions.

I have 2 tattoos. I have a celtic style butterfly on my upper back that takes up most of my upper back, and a fresh 2 day old one on my left wrist of a cutesy ladybug with my oldest daughter's name underneath it. It was my Christmas present from her and she wrote her name. I love it!!!

I plan on getting a few more and doing some more shading with my butterfly on my back in a little bit.

I can't see TAO yet so I am not sure what type of tattoo you are getting, and where, candipooh.

I am in the midst of getting quite a large piece on my right thigh; I am pretty sure I've posted the most recent images here but maybe not. Here it is:
http://flickr.com/photos/jeniac/311472257/

Anyway, before this I only had a smallish piece between my upper shoulder blades. That really didn't hurt much at all, and I thought, "How bad could it be?"

Answer: ha ha ha! I haven't had any children yet, so I can't compare the different types of pain. Getting the outline done for this piece, particularly the parts behind my knee, was really quite painful. But there were breaks! So far it's been three sessions, and tomorrow will be the fourth (with one more to go). The outline took about four hours.

Eight hours is a long, long, long time to sit. You may be different, but based on my experience and that of my friends, you will burn through all of your endorphins and crash, and when you've still got hours to make it through... yipes. I know after the four hours of outlining, I went home and melted into the bed like a puddle. Some of the best sleep I've ever had, but I was still a little burnt out the next day. So I would say, don't push yourself too hard.

I hope that made some sense. It's late and I've had a terrible day.

I'll be sure to post pictures of the colorwork I'm having done tomorrow as soon as I can!

binkin, your tattoo looks great! Thanks for posting the picture.

I am getting flowers on my back. Ten all together. One to represent me, one to represent each of my daughters and the rest to represent my sisters, one sister-in-law, and my mom. I let them each pick a flower. The orchid, which is me, will be on my lower neck and the rest will be down my back. Flowers, leaves, vines, etc.

The flowers are
orchid
sunflower
purple sage
pink rose bud
peach rose
orange blossom
daisy
pansy
lotus
bluebell

You know what is funny. I planned my first tattoo when I was about 22 years old. I didn't get it till a few years later when I had met my now dh and he paid for it for a Christmas present. At the time (right before I had it done) he had warned me that they are addicting and I **WILL** want more. I was pretty adamant that I would never want another one. That I will just get this one and then be done with tattoos. I now have four more besides the back one planned. I just love the way they look. I don't seem like the type that would be inked. (but really what is "the type"?!?) So I always wonder if people wonder why I am staring at their tattoos. If they catch me galking at them I usually say something like "I love your tattoo" or the like.

I am sure I am going to be pretty chatty for the next few weeks. I am SOOOO excited!!

Send more pictures. I really would love to see your tats. Here is my one and only....(for now, lol)

I used to have a lot more piercings...but due to "grown up" life, the only one I have left is my tragus.

I find it exceptionally funny that it showed up in all my wedding pics!

So I went to the tattoo shop last night to see what the artist drew up. It WAY above an beyond what I had pictured. It is breathtaking.

It is going to be about 5 inches accross and instead of running stright up and down it will go from right sholder to left hip.

I did notice that he only put one rose in the picture. I wanted two. One partly open to represent my middle daughter (her fav flower) and one fully open to represent my mom.(dds pink, mom's peach) I didn't say anything because I didn't want to mess up the beautiful flow of the picture. But after sleeping on it I decided to call him. I don't want him to have to re-draw the entire thing and I don't want it to flow differently BUT I will feel bad if my mother is not included. I will call him when the shop opens up in a few hours.

I am so excited about this tat. It is almost all I think about. :lol :o

And my dh, who has been wanting another one for a long time is really getting the itch. I bet as soon as we are done paying off this one that he will get his 'big one'

I did get a little nervous when the reality hit. It is so weid that my back will NEVER look the same. This tattoo will ALWAYS be there from now until forever. Feels more permanint than marriage :lol

Awesome to see so many other pierced/tattooed mommies here! I am still a tattooed mommy, but no longer pierced (other than my ears which I never put rings in). In the past I had my lip twice, tragus, left "funbag" lol, nose, and tongue. Tattoos: star on left breast and a jolly roger on my right hip.

I want to get something to represent DS but I haven't figured anything out yet. Any ideas?

I finally had my first tattoo done a bit over a wek ago, since I am TTC and wouldn't have it done during my luteal phase. I've wanted it since about 2002. I was talking to a friend on Instant Messenger about tats and I said that I didn't like the amateurish ones that fade over the years but I did like nice, professionally done ones "although I would never get one myself" and when I asked him what design he was thinking about and he told me, I immediatelym typed in. "Ooooh! I want one too!"

It's the symbol from the old fallout shelter signs I grew up with as a cold war baby.

It took me four years to decide where on my body I wanted it. Originally me and my friend were going to have them match, but the friendship ended awhile back and I still wanted the tat. I had it done on my chest, but up high enough that I don't think it will get messed up by stretch marks.

I'm pretty tame as far as the piercings, just my nostril, one in my ear cartiledge, five in my left lobe and three in my right, but back in the '70s among my circle of friends that was considered "a lot".

My dd has her nostril, her lip, and her belly button done. She's getting her first tattoo on her eighteenth birthday because minors can't have it done in this state. I kind of want my belly button done, but not until after the baby has been conceived and born.

Hey, mamas! Nope it's not me...I am a big chicken when it comes to needles, but I have a friend who is getting her first tattoo tomorrow afternoon and she wonders if she needs to be careful what she wears, will it hurt or be sensitive in that area for awhile and would clothing rubbing on it hurt?

She's getting a cross done in the middle of her upper back, about 4 inches long and 3 inches across. She said maybe a sports bra and a low cut tank would be good to wear? She doesn't know and neither do I, but I told her I could ask you all and somebody would know what would be best to do or whether or not she even needed to be careful what she wears at all.

He said it would only take about an hour, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any replies!

tinybutterfly: I have a tattoo between my shoulderblades, took maybe an hour and a half and is... um... I am not sure. 6" wide and 1.5" tall? Something like that (I'm terrible at estimating sizes!).

At any rate, it was my first piece and when it was done a dressing was applied to wear until I got home, so I wouldn't worry too much about rubbing at that stage.

I've so far had five tattooing sessions and after each one the healing process feels basically like a pretty horrible brushburn for the first couple of days and then hurts progressively less. I have a reasonably high pain tolerance, but I would say it probably requires less special accomodation than you'd think. I remember being concerned about wearing x y and z after getting tattooed and while it was healing and it's turned out not to be that big a deal.

Best of luck to your friend, and hey - if you get the ink on your back, you can't SEE the needle! :lol :wink

binkin, thanks for replying! She is really excited. I called her and told her what you said.

I have been thinking...I had two unmedicated labors ( well, first one was MOSTLY unmedicated, there was a wee bit of stadol at 3 cm. cuz I stalled then no more, second labor was completely unmedicated) and how much worse could it be than that?

Who knows, maybe someday I'll get brave!

I am going to go with her tomorrow...I'll live vicariously through her, until I can find the nerve!

P.S. I'd LOVE one on my lower back! I used to want a tiny blue butterfly, but now think I'd like a more abstract kind of design, curvy and curly, maybe just black ink. Simple and elegant.

hey tb. when i got tattooed it did hurt to have clothing rub against it. it bothered me even on my arms and legs. i think if your friend is sensitive to such things like clothing and fabric i would wear something that covers it loosely or not at all.
good luck to her.

Thanks, maya. I'll tell her that, too. She is wearing a sweatsuit kind of thing with a low cut tee underneath, so she can take the jacket off or leave it on afterwards she said.

I never thought about people with sensitivity issues...my older son used to have to have all of the tags cut off his shirts. They just bugged him really badly. He's okay about them now, but when he was little, it was a big deal.

tofumama
12-18-2006, 04:54 PM
I second ian'smommaya...I am working on a half sleeve now and I am wearing the softest things I can find because anything with a seam is no good.

Also, pain is relative. I had 3 drug free births and I wouldn't even compare it to that kind of pain. Not that it was more or less...just different. Plus, you are choosing to have this pain as opposed to say...dental work, which one may have to have. Somehow choosing to have the pain makes it easier to handle. I actually prefer to watch the tat being done as it helps me to deal with pain. My tattoos are fairly large so sitting for an hour seems like heaven to me!!! :lol

I introduced myself waaaaaay back about 50 or so pages, so I should update :lol
I have a nose ring, tongue ring, multiple earings (5 each ear) plus some I no longer wear.
For tats:
-as a 'necklace' I have a flower vine with a butterfly on one side and a dragonfly on the other (like over my collarbones) to represent dh and I- this was my 'wedding' tattoo
- a tribal sun on my upper abdomen (which survived 3 pg!)
-another tribal sun on my left thigh
-on my outer left calf I have a tattoo for my oldest ds which is an angel/goddess holding a baby boy under a night sky
-my inner left calf is my tat for my daughter which is a fairy mother holding a fairy baby girl perched on a mushroom at sunrise with some trees and water in the background
-my left foot has the Kangi symbols 'friend', 'family', and 'forever' which I got with my brother before he left for Iraq (he has the same one)
-my right inner calf is a sun/moon ying-yang type of thing
-outer right calf is a tat for my youngest which is a fairy holding a baby boy, sort of sitting in a field, with butterflies around her head- 2 older tats were incorporated into this tattoo also which was cool
-my left arm has a green-man leaf which is going to be turned into a sleeve with all different leaves (maybe in the spring)
-my right arm is currently in the works -it will be a half sleeve of flowers with 3 fairies to represent each one of my kids (one fairy is already there, I got it a looooong time ago)
- both wrists have flower braceletts

Phew, I think that's it :D

You don't want rubbing, especially from bra straps, underwires ect. Personal experience here. Regular stuff like just a shirt or soft fabric against it shouldn't be a problem, it's anything snug, elastic ect.

binkin
12-19-2006, 09:30 AM
Ibuprofen does thin the blood (you are not supposed to take it with anti-clotting meds for this reason), as does naproxen sodium and aspirin. Acetaminophin was the only painkiller I was allowed to take while on (intentional) blod thinners post-surgery. I would not recommend Advil, Aleve, aspirin, etc. I don't know enough to recommend Tylenol or other pain relievers. I would be more inclined to ask a pharmacist their opinion on this; I don't think any of the painkillers would cause severe enough bleeding to be a problem, but most of them ARE bloodthinners and will increase bleeding and possibly affect the healing and final appearance of the tattoo. However, I am not an expert in the field.

I will say that the tattoo on my back really didn't hurt much at all, and an hour isn't so long. I would advise your friend to relax and breathe through the pain, but the tattoo artist will likely be better at talking her through this than I would (they're used to it!) Just so you know I'm not saying "OH, it doesn't HURT THAT BAD", the one on my thigh does in fact hurt quite a lot in some spots when I'm getting it worked on.

Ooooooh.... I'm joining!

I have three tats, two are self-done. And I have my nose pierced, two holes in each ear, 1 set of which is stretched just a bit.

For some reason I can't find a photo of the tat on my back that wasn't done by me, but I have all these pics:
Right inner ankle, first tattoo I ever did myself. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/suomisidhe/322646347/in/set-72157594224439631/) I'm not exactly happy with it and it's still evolving...
Left inner ankle, self done. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/suomisidhe/214993754/in/set-72157594224439631/)
Nose piercing. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/suomisidhe/278693462/)
Ear. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lotusstone/258360487/in/set-72157594308779125/) Sometimes I don't have anything in the second holes.

I have several more tat plans. I never have enough money or time without kids to get them done, though. (Soon, soon...) And I'm hoping to get my nipples pierced, which I've been planning ever since I stopped nrsing ds about..oh...3 years ago. :lol

I started tattooing last summer and I love it.

the advil won't help, except maybe psychosomatically. i smoked 2 j's and took a few xanax before my last one (i know, i know- i was like 20 then) and it still hurt just the same as the previous. i think the best thing would be a little meditation or self hypnosis, similar to what's used for birthing. it could help her refocus elsewhere and sort of "rise above" the pain.

So I spent about 5 hours under the needle. It went well. Painful but nothing I couldn't handle. :) It is interesing how different the pain is in different spots on the back. He got all of the outline done. 19 colors in all. He is outlining in all in color.

The artist kept saying "don't show it to many people because the inbetween stage doesn't look good" But I still think it looks great :) So I will share the picture. But don't tell, :lol

Advil does not have blood thinning properties, although aspirin does. My dh happens to take rx blood thinners and his cardiologist has approved advil for him and there is no warning label on his rx for a blood thinning side effect. Xanax doesn't relieve pain, it's an anti-anxiety med, so no suprise there that it the pain was the same.

My second Tattoo was done about 3 years ago and it is on my upper left arm and is a celtic knot which ends in 3 scottish thistles...the knotwork is green and the thistles are purple.

I wouldn't worry about the tattoos. I know so many people (myself included!) that have had tats in that area and they looked fine afterwards. Here's mine:

Before:

After:
This is only 2 months post partum, it just needs to be touched up because the stretching and then going back to normal grayed the lines a bit, and I have two little stretch marks in it. Excuse the stretchmarks lol, having babies does that to ya sometimes! Those long lines going across are from my shorts lol.
The part closest to my belly stretched a little, but it doesn't look bad at all. That picture was taken a week or so ago, I've been working out since then and everytime my stomach gets slimmer, I can see the tat go back to normal.

I hope i can jump in here!

I am nursing a four month old right now, so it will probably be a while, but i have long been contemplating getting a tattoo. The reason i have been dragging my feet is because i want something that really speaks to me and i really like.

So, i was looking and i felt really inspired by this necklace that an MDC momma made: http://www.greenleesforest.com/blessedwomb.htm I love the pendant on that. It is so beautiful. But how do i translate that into a tattoo? Do i take it to a tattoo artist and would they be able to draw if for me? Would they think i was completely weird for wanting a tatoo of that? Meh, i suppose that doesn't really matter.

Thanks in advance!

You should just be able to take it to them and them recreate it :)

That is like one of the tattoos that I am going to get. (later... because I have a few I want first) I knew I wanted a baby curled up like that but I wasn't sure which picture. The place I started to work at a few months ago (pregnancy shop) sells some necklaces and earrings with a pendent like the one you linked to and i said "tad. thats it!". So...we will have very similar tats.

I'll join!

I have 6 tattoos. I have a tribal sun on my right thight, a custom design on my lower back, hello kitty on the left side of my abdomen, a tribal kitty on the right side of my abdomen, the pisces sign in amethyst on the back of my right ankle and a toe ring.

I only have my ears pierced, but my favorite is my conch. I love it! I had my belly button and nose pierced years ago...but decided they weren't me anymore so they're gone.

hi ladies! I have three tattoos, one between my shoulderblades, one on my right ankle, and this one, (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b34/misti72/DSCN0040.jpg) on my lower back. It's a Celtic Tree of Life; the branches and roots of the tree are an intricate Celtic knot, and every branch connects with every root.

The pic was taken the day I had it done, so sorry about the ointment glare :D This is the first "real" art I've had done, the other two were done in high school, on nights I'd rather not think about :o Anyway, I had it done in August of '05; it's still not finished, I sat in that chair for 6 hours, and I haven't had the nerve to go back and finish it.

After it's done, though, I would like to get something to represent my boys, and the miscarriage I just experienced, but without names or dates, just something pretty and meaningful to me. I am drawing a blank, though.....does anyone have any good ideas?

I love the tree. It is so pretty! I love anything celtic!

You could do what I am doing and go with flowers. Ask them what flower they like best or use the flower that is for their month of birth. With your baby that you loss you could go with the month he/she was due (:hugs) A braclet on anklet of flowers would be pretty. And it would leave plenty of space to add more later if you have any more. :wink

If flowers are too girlish for you then think of something more "for boys" (whatever that means, :lol) A train? The different cars are the different children. Or ballons. You know how a clown or a person selling ballons hold a bunch of different size/shape. Depending on your personality that might be a fun tattoo. (but seeing you celtic knot tree then I am guessing balllons are not your style?? )

Or...have you seen those necklaces that have madalions that are almost stick figures of a little boy or girl, the middle of which is a birth stone of the month the boy/girl was born. That might translate well into a tattoo.

These ideas might be silly but I am tossing them out there to get your ideas going ;) I am at work and I am going to be brain storming on some ideas for you. I will come back later and type some more. I love thinking about what would be good tattoos. Fun stuff.

My hubby has a dream catcher on his upper arm. As of right now it has two feathers. He wants to add a third and put our three daughters' names by them. One feather for each daughter.

I'm a lightly tattooed and pierced mama. I have a heart on one breast, a snake on the other and a badly done and ill-advised reaper on my thigh (friends should never let friends tattoo drunk). I have 5 holes in my ears and my tongue pierced. I also have a question and thought this might be a good place to ask it.

I've always been allergic to silver in my ears, but ever since I was pregnant the first time back in 2000 I've been unable to wear any earrings. Within just a few minutes my ears start to itch and burn, and after a couple of hours they start to get nasty and weepy. Why? And does anyone know of anyway to fix this? I miss all my pretty earrings!

you can develop a nickle allergy at any time, try wearing organic jewelry or titanium or glass.

That being said, I've had good luck with titanium jewelry. My ears used to get all icky and sore with cheaper earrings.

Hi, I have my lobes pierced as well as a cartilage piercing, bellybutton that's looking kinda sad after three pregnancies (and has gotten oddly tight in the past few months) and my tongue. I'm seriously thinking of taking out my tongue and belly rings since they were in large part rebellion in the first place and I'm just not there anymore. I really want to get my nose done soon, so maybe that would be a good trade off. Take out the tongue and belly rings and get my nose done....... I've also been trying to find/design my first tattoo and finalize the placement. I want to put it somewhere that won't sag and look funny when I'm 50. :lol

what size are your ears? it is very common to have allergic reactions to jewelry....you just have to step up to a better material

any thing that they sell at the mall or Claires will be crap. implant-grade surgical stainless steel is a safe bet--good "basic, everyday" earrings are bead rings made from this with opal or tigers-eye balls. organic materials include: stone, wood, bone, horn, and nut and can start at about 14 but typically are for a larger hole (like 4 gauge).

you can find a reputable shop near you at www.safepiercing.com or my dh owns Nomad, a 14-year-old piercing studio (the oldest running shop in the US!) and ships to anywhere--www.nomadpiercingstudio.com--just call and tell him what size you are wearing. if your ears are irritated now you should go straight to glass, as anything porous is not good for healing. and i second that acrylic is not good.

"friends should never let friends tattoo drunk" sounds like a bumper sticker:)

good luck to you

Most standard earrings make my ears itch. Piercing quality stuff is usually better but my ears were never totally happy till i stretched them out and put in horn spirals. They didn't even like the black acrylic crescents I had in before the spirals. The only problem is i can't find much small guaged organic jewelry.

I am done with phase two of my tattoo. It is going to take way more than 4 (total) sittings. It will take at least 4 more.

Click on the above link to see the pictures. He finished the orchid and the bluebells, and did all of the pansy except the white.

I was under the needle for about 4 1/2 hours. Yep...I think that is my limit. For the first 2 hours it wasn't that bad AT ALL but the last hour was very hard.

So far I am loveing the orchid best (which is good because that is the flower that represents me ;) )

I saw a picture that was of a tattoo of a tiny line of flowers along a woman's spine. I loved it and thought that was what I wanted. But it bothered me that it had no semimetal meaning for me. It was just pretty. I wanted it to have more meaning. My sister gave me the idea of picking flowers to represent my daughters (I have three daughters and no sons) I loved the idea. My girls loved the idea and each picked a flower. Skyler my oldest LOVES sunflowers. It fits her too, she is all about being wild. My middle daughter loves roses and loves pink. Totally princess. So a pink rose fit her. My Youngest whose name is Sage is too young to care which flower as long as it is purple. I typed in "Purple Sage flower" into Google photo and bam! wouldn't you know....purple Sage is a beautiful flower. I then decided to ask my sisters to add a flower that they themselves picked that best represents them. I have 4 sisters. I also asked my sister-in-law/friend to pick a flower. The three bluebells (that she picked) are for my three sister's-in-law. I wanted the flower representing ME at the top. I had a hard time picking between lotus and orchid. I liked the meaning of the lotus but the look of the orchid. Then my youngest sister picked lotus flower, I felt comfortable picking an orchid for myself. It actually spoke to me more that the lotus anyway. I picked the red/white orchid because red, to me, signifies blood. blood to me means life/birth and re-birth. I felt it fit with my obsession of birth. The orchid also reminds me of the birth canal. :) The re-birth part spoke to me because I am getting this tattoo to celebrate a new phase of life for me. I am done having children and my youngest is now weaned.

So there it is...the meaning of the tattoo. As the ideas grew so did the tattoo. When I presented the idea to the artist he drew up his interpataion of it and showed it to me. I fell in love with it. It was even better than I had imagined.

Oh...I forgot to add that I picked a peach rose for my mother. That is her fav flower. I didn't ask her about it because she hates tattoos. I will show her after it is all done, LOL. So my daughter is the smaller rose bud and my mother the open rose.

Woo Hoo!! Reading the previous posts before I posted made me go searching for some stainless steel ear rings & I got some on Ebay for $16. :banana

Anyway, I only have 1 tat that I got about 5 yrs ago. It was something I had wanted for a long time, but I don't really dig it so much anymore :shrug oh well! It's a anklet of purple daisies. I think maybe it is just to dark or wasn't done so well, but it looks funky to me now, almost like the color has bled too much & it's almost sort of blurry now.

I have always wanted my nose pierced but DH doesn't like the idea. Though I think he is comeing around slowly. I had my navel pierced but it never healed & I was told by more than 1 piercer that it was due to the shape of my belly button & it would never be allowed to heal properly. I also have my ears pierced, but I rarely wear earing as even gold tends to bug me. Can't wait for my SS earings to come now!!

Lately I've been feeling like I've lost my own idenity in becoming a mom so now I am searching to recover myself. This has brought me back to tattoo & piercing. Although I'm nursing a 3 month old so it will probably be awhile be I get something done. Plus I need to decide what I'd want done, but I guess this is the place for that :wink

wow Candice that tat is lookin great! I reallt like the Orchid and I can't wait to see the Lotus blossom finished.

I also want a huge backpiece that would represent my daughters and someother really meaningful things in my life. I want a large travelling Buddha (because I've felt a strong conection to the Buddha since I was a kid and I'm a traveler) walking through a field of stargazer lilys (my daughter Lily is named after stagazer Lilies, they're my favorite flowers) that would wrap around to my front side and end up with a large lily sitting just inside each hip bone. Behind the Buddha would be the Aurora Borealis (my younger Dd is named after that) which would basically cover my shouldblades, and the Cascade Mountains (because I LOVE oregon and mountains/ nature) would be off in the distance behind the Buddha. But of course, i'm now where near ready to start working on it, it would prolly cost a small fortune. LOL

I also want 1/2 sleeves on each arm. On one side I want a Pcific Northwest forest with Redwood trees running up from my elbows to over my shoulders and little mushrooms, fearies, owls, etc. One the otherside I want a japanese woodblock style wave coming up over my shoulder with an underwater scene of whales and seaturtles, octopuses etc from my elbow up to the wave. These ones are meaningful too, but just in that i LOVE the forests and the ocean.

And (yeah theres more) i also want a naked art deco style lady with old skool flash style butterfly wings on my chest. it would sit pretty low so i would have to have on something very low cut to see it (this would work for me b/c i have no cleavage lol). I would also have some surface piercings done to accent the wings.

so, hey... question? Any of you Mamas members on AIM or BMEzine.com? I just joined and would like to have some more friends, you can PM me or just find me there, I'm treefairee. :jammin

i believe i already put my stats on here, but why not repeat it after 95 pages?

one tat--a naturalistic style lady bug on my left hip (inside the bone)

4 piercings, all facial--two in the nose (right nostril and septum), one in each ear.

i had my nipples pierced, but the migrated. i want to do them again, but i think i'm going to wait until after breastfeeding (i haven't even ttced yet).

in the mean time, i'm also considering a vertical clitoral hood piercing. i think it would be fab. any thoughts on this and natural birth? i know that some people remove it during birth, that those who have a 14 guage piercing (on their nipples, navel, or clit hood) will use the flexible plastic ones (http://www.pregnancypiercings.com/catalog.php), but i don't care for that guage--i like heavier overall. but, it might be the right one for the hood, i haven't gone for my consultation yet.

thoughts? also, any opinions on nipple piercings and breast feeding?

Okay...so my tattoo is healing and they are scabbing. The outline had almost no scabing and healed very fast. The flowers that were filled in on Sunday are really scabbing. Especially the pansy (it has layers of ink so that might be part of it) I have read that you do not pick at the scabs and that doing so will take some ink out of the tat.

So what happens to the scab? Some parts are falling off and yes, they are colored. HELP! I don't want the color to fade.

With the outline I used "Tattoo goo" but they were out on Sunday and told me to use A&D ointment.

How many times of day should I use it? The shop said 4 times a day. That seems fine for the first day or two but it has been 4 days.

It sucks because I can't put the goo on myself. I have to have dd do it and she is only 7. Dh does it when he is home.

i 'gooed' twice a day as long as the scabs, etc, stayed moist. if they're drying out, add more goo. :)

and i didn't get any color fade. it's kinda faded now (being 12 years old), but i don't want to get it reinked yet. :) i don't know why. one of those weird intuitive things. :)

Oh yeah, piercings... I heard a story the other day, my friend had gone to a piercing shop with some other friends and was telling me about it, about a couple where the woman had just gotten her clit pierced and her male partner was getting a PA and for some reason my immediate thought was "What if they caught on each other during sex play??" I know it's very silly and I have lots of friends with genital piercings, but that had never occurred to me before! (I wonder if it's ever happened??)

Personally, I don't have any genital piercings but I think the clitoral hood with a barbell is kinda sexy. I would most certainly take it out during birth, though, just to avoid unnecessary pain and trauma.

there is absolutley no reason to remove a clit hood piercing during delivery. the stretching (and possible tearing) is below the vaginal opeing--the perineum. vertical hoods are above the vag opeing so basic atatomy says, okay to go. have given birth twice with mine in. if a dr. told you to take it out it would be b/c they don't know anything about them (and need to take a refresher course in anatomy and childbirth!). maybe in the case of an extremely violent medically managed birth i am sure women have tore above but that would be HIGHLY unlikely.

hope that helps!

i have a horizontal hood. my first birth i was advised to take it out, so right before pusing dh did and it easily went back in a few days later. it had been fully healed for over a year before i gave birth. my second birth we forgot the special pliers that opens captives so i had to leave it in. i had no problems with it.

i had both my nipples pierced and, like yours, they migrated. i had only had them for about 6 months before i got pregnant so i took them out. i figured they would shift much more with the nursing suction. i didn't know that you [I]can[I] breastfeed with them in (or by taking them out each time you nurse). i might have left the fully healed one in if i did know. i haven't had a problem breastfeeding 2 children. well, the holes sometimes leak (yes, even 3 1/2 years after taking them out).

Nancy,

You would need to check the age limit in the tattoo shop. With ours b/c they are under strict rules with health canada, they legally can't do piercings on children til they are 16, and 14 with a parent there. It's something to look into.

scroll down for info on piercing guns (http://safepiercing.org/FAQ.html). i would never let my child get pierced with one. also, if you use titanium jewelry you won't have as much chance of developing a nickel allergy.

also APP shops will carry a higher quality stainless steel (medical grade)--nickel is gross is made for hubcaps and guns, not good to be worn in the body. but it is cheap so it is prevalent. the APP site (www.safepiercing.com) is great for that info and can help find a shop near you.

hope you have a great experience!

i wanted to get a snowflake tattoo on the back of my neck a long time ago. But i wanted it in White and light blue (like a real snow flake) and the dude at the shop i went to told me it would fade so fast it wouldn't even be worth getting. :(

But i think a solid black snowflake would be cool... kinda tribal. Some good spots for this would be (IMO): inner wrist, back of neck, or top of foot. I'm sre theres lots of other good spots, but thays what comes immedialtely too my mind.

....thanks Canidpooh! :)

Snowflake....blue and white fade fast?? Hum...I have a lot of white in mine (I mean I WILL when it is done) and quite a bit of blue too. I hope it doesn't fade fast.

I have a star on each ankle bone, greek writing on the back of my neck, flowers on my low back, and a swallow on each shoulder blade. I had all these tattoos by the time I was 19.

It's funny now because I'm very preppy I guess you could say and for work wear suits and nice clothes and then when they see me at the Xmas party or company picnic they are all so surprised that I even have one let alone 5.

No good tattoo place will do it while your prego beacuse of the chance of infection. It's best to wait until after the baby is born. :)

That's a bummer , i really wanted to get mine finished...and a new one.:(

i've never heard of someone getting an infection because of a tattoo, all mine where fine....how often does that happen?

onyxravnos
01-22-2007, 05:47 PM
It's not very common if you go to a good place and take care of your tats but it does happen and any infection in your blood goes straight to baby and can cause complications which is why places won’t do it. They won’t pierce you either for the same reasons.

As soon as ds is born I’m going out and having a ‘more unnatural holes in my head party’ to celebrate.

Hi yah everyone. I went back for sitting number three. I thought I was gonna die. It was very painful at about hour number three. And by 4 1/2 hours I had to have him stop. I felt like such a wimp. I am a litle nervous to go back.

Anyway...here is the picture (http://new.photos.yahoo.com/album?c=candipooh&aid=576460762387638609&pid=&wtok=Ng9tC8Dahk4QKuI7k7iY8g--&ts=1170193179&.src=ph). I had dh put ointment on it right before I took it so there is a little shine to it but you get the idea.

My tatts are :: Lilo & Stitch on my left arm, the kanji for snake on my upper left arm, a Neopet on my lower left arm, and a moon and 3 stars on my left wrist.
On my right arm is the kanji for dragon, Simba from the lion king, and a heart inbetween two wings

Right now I have my left eyebrow pierced, and four earrings in each ear :)

Hi all. I had another sitting. Wanna see? :)

link (http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/Modules/ViewMorePics/Pages/ViewMorePics.aspx?%3ffuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=98769045)

It is the last picture on myspace. Still a LONG way to go. The swirls alone will take two sitting. It might take another two sitting just toget all the white done. (almost all the flowers will have some white)

But on a good note...I finished paying it off. So the rest of the sittings will be tip money only.

another pierced and tattood momma here....
I just got my first tattoo (http://flickr.com/photos/scarletbegonia/382897557/in/set-72157594523091053/) about two weeks ago....(explaination in the pic)
I had my eyebrow done at 18 and it got infected and had it redone along with my labret a couple months ago....
I took the eyebrow ring out cause the old hole was leaking blood and pus (they were connected).... after I took a shower I went to bed and forgot to put the bar back in and the next am I couldn't get it back in....
So I am just left with my labret.... which I LOVE....
I also have sensitive ears... and REALLLLLYY want to stretch them... I think that is next on my list... but we'll see !!!

hi there! i've been lingering but this is my first post here. i have two tattoos (and two new ones in mind) and no piercings other than my ears. i have pierced my eyebrow, nose and belly button (all done myself with a needle) but let them all close up. i'm considering getting my nose done again but i'm wondering: the problem with my nose piercing is that when i put a ring in it is too much sideways, like parallel to my face, so that you just see this big O it looks silly. so, if i get it done professionally how likely am i to like it? or could it also be at a funny angle when they do it? anyone have professional piercings they thought weren't done right?

subbing and joining you all.I have one tattoo,a celtic type sun on the middle of my upper back.I have my ears double pierced, cartilage pierced and tregus pierced. My nose has also been pierced for about 5 yrs now.I am going this Saturday with my DH to get another tattoo(my Valentines gift:loveeyes: )and really need some input here.
I am getting a tat behind my ear.I would like to have a significent piece done, something symbolic of being a mama,or symbolizing my children/family etc.I am a pretty earthy gal,not necessarily simple and definitely not prudish....think more hippie. So,I think I will want color, but I don't like bright colors for tats,so I would want muted.I was originally thinking of something like a sun and moon(husband and myself)and stars for my kids(We have 6 children)The problem is I really don't like stars!
If you all can help me think of something,I would appreciate it.I really like celtic,Hebrew, henna type tats....if that helps.I also would like it to be a trailey looking tat,so I could certainly incorporate flowers(minimal, though)or viney type things into it,to tie it together,I just don't want it to look like I have stamps behind my ear!!Also, our youngest three are adopted, two of which have Down Syndrome if there is anything you can think of to incorporate signifying adoption, that would be cool, too.

Thanks, guys.I've got two days to figure this out!

I'm really thinking more and more about what I want to get for my next pieces. I want to get my low back piece touched up but just remember how much it hurt and how LONG it took to heal, so I've been putting it off. I told DH he couldn't let me get anymore until that one is fixed. Luckily I've got a while to think about it as I'm pg.

Anyone have any experience about tats hurting more during AF? I talked to my Dh's artist about this and he said it's not true but I swear whenever I've had pieces done during AF they were excrutiating.

Love the coverup mama nomad!

Quick question.... how do I take out my nose piercing.
I'm having an MRI in a few days, and apparently I need to remove all metal jewelry. I don't know how to get my nose ring out!!:o It's the kind that's sort of like a bent fish hook (don't know the name). I tried pulling out and rotating down but that didn't seem to help and just hurt.

And then of course, any tips on getting the ring back in? I could stop by my piercer, but I will be gone for 3-4 hours as it is, and I don't really want to leave the kiddos with my mom for too long, yk?

Hmm, I'm probably too late ....but how about a vine with simple flowers? Two vines twined together for you and your Dh, and flowers for each of your children. To symbolize your adopted children they could have stems that are wooven in, instead of stemming from the main vines.

Okay,so I went a got my new tattoo.I know I posted my plea for ideas a little late....but it worked out!I went ahead with the idea of the sun and moon for DH and myself, then the six trailing stars for each of our six kids. The idea that I had of adding a touch of color to the center of each star signifying their birthstones worked out well too.People in the tattoo place seemed shocked that I wasn't bothered by the discomfort, they said behind the ear and on the neck is usually pretty ouchie,I didn't think it hurt at all. That said, though,I do have a pretty high pain tolerence!
All in all,I 'm really pleased with how it turned out, just thought I'd share it with you all:)

Checking in with you ladies to shout from the rooftops that I have my first session for my half sleeve and chest plate on April 12th and I am more than excited....It is going to be BEAUTIFUL! Here's the jist and then I am certain I can attempt to update with photos for each session but it will be Mums and Sweetpeas representing the birth months of my three children (2 in Nov and one in April) and then three birds representing obviously my children. But the detail and color and all that should be AMAZING-the artist is so excited to be doing this piece and so I know he is taking extra care in the drawing and I gave him creative freedom inside my idea so he should feel great about it....

I have an armband (thank you 1994! :( :lol ) and then a sacred heart on my back that we have already tossed ideas around on how to cover....my right arm will be another half sleeve and chestplate of lilies representing the month my dh and I marries (may) and then my back I have no idea-obviously this will be years in the making.....

I currently also have a monroe (6 years in dec) and my nose pierced...I have seriously been considering stretching my ears but my dh is quite conservative (who woulda thunk it?) and so I dont wanna send him over the edge.....

:lol

Those ideas sound great Nicole. My dh and I are both "suits" so it's really surprising to many people that I have 8 tattoos and he has 5.

My tattoos are looking a little weird lately(almost like they're back in the healing phase), but my artist has assured me it's the hormones giving my skin an awkward tint to it.

For my next piece I'm thinking the side of my thigh. I always told myself I wouldn't tattoo my legs, but I'm running out of places and the upper thigh won't show at all besides a bathing suit. I want to get my left side done sinch I have my right but I've been advised to wait a bit until the skin gets back to normal after I've had this baby.

Talking about tattoos just makes me so excited!

Oh honey I would NEVER take someone else's design. I have lots of ink and ALL of it is custom work--I would be pissed if someone took any of my work, too.

But, that is literally where I'm planning to get mine (to match my flame job on the other arm), and similar to what I had in mind.

So, they will be similar, but I would never copy or use the same design. PROMISE!

I got my first tattoo almost 7 years ago. I've wanted another once since then and have known what I want for the past 5 years but I haven't got around to doing it yet.

I had my nose pierced today and finally decided to get my act together for my next tattoo. It will be the newborn footprints (not exact detail of course) of my sons, on my back. I may eventually turn that into a whole back piece and have them "walking" through a garden.

Hi! I'm sure this question has been asked 100 times. I'm too lazy to read through the whole thread - sorry. :o

What's the best way to find a tattoo parlor? I want a good, clean, ethical sort of place that does good work. My dh has decided to take off his wedding ring and I want to get him a tattooed one for a gift, and a matching one for me. (He took it off for work - too dangerous.) I also want to get a really rockin' sun on my shoulder. There are tons of parlors, but I really don't want to get screwed, so any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you so much!

PS - I love all the pics of your body art - it's awesome!

look at porfolios, ask for recommendations, and look at tattoos you like online. when you're looking at portfolios make sure there are a few HEALED pics in there. you want clean outlines (not shakey or faded) and color that isn't spotty or faded looking.

hey everyone! i thought i'd pop in and say hi. no new mods recently since i just had a baby in january but i'm planning on finishing my half-sleeve and possibly indulging in a septum piercing very soon! also, any ideas for adding onto my dove on my back? i thought maybe some larger olive branches and filigree would look nice. i don't have a good photo of it but it's basically just an outline of a dove holding an olive branch. you can sort of see the size and placement here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v42/breaking_reason/243b1f90.jpg

Anyone have sleeves? I've been contemplating getting 1/4-1/2 sleeves done. I already have matching tattoos at the top of my shoulder that are black spirals and I want to continue the general theme matching on both arms. We moved a few months ago and I don't know any artists here though. I'm wondering what general ballpark of pricing it is for sleeves.

i have both my arms mostly completely tattooed. a full sleeve takes around 15-25 hours so that would be roughly $1500-2500 plus tips. you'll pay per session though.

I would like to join the tribe. I have two tattoos and my ears pierced three times of which I rarely wear earrings.:o My tattoos are a moon on my left outter ankle and an cow howling at the moon on my abdomen which looks terrible after two children.:lol I had my tongue pierce for about three years until I lost the barb in the trash at the dentists office.:( I will probably get it done again sometime. I do have at least three tattoos that I want done (a sun to go with the moon on my ankle, a goddess symbol and a fairy yet to be picked), but have to save the $$$$. I also am planning on getting my nose pieced this year. Does anyone have any word of wisdom on placement and healing?

This thread is forever long, but I will check out some of the photos. Yeah for tattoos and piercings.
BB,
Cheryl

i have 3 tattoos and sadly the only piercings I have left are in my ears (3 holes on each side) I had my bellybutton, nose and labret at one point. The bellybutton got ripped out, which left me a nice little scar. :lol and the labret I took out eventually bc it irritated me too much. The nose I miss dearly, I lost the stud and couldnt replace it in time and it eventually closed up. I plan to get it re-done after this pregnancy.

I also want several more tattoos. Dp is a tattoo artist, so im lucky :p

I pierced my bellybutton myself, and I did it completely wrong. Which is why it eventually ripped out. Hurt like hell and left a scar. I did it with a safety pin *cringe* :shake which I eventually replaced with a standard barbell.

Just make sure you really know what you're doing, and that you disinfect everything you will use. I know a lot of friends who have gotten severely infected nipples from self piercing.

Soon as I can get away I'm going to see my brother (who's also my tattoo artist) to get something like this. (http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l18/zlee1976/startattoos.jpg) Only I don't know about stars. I was thinking I'd like it to go with this (http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l18/zlee1976/Photo245.jpg), on my back. (it needs a touch-up, too.) Any ideas?

I got my 7th tattoo earlier this month. It was my birthday present from DD and DH :) It is 6 cherry blossoms grouped into a triangle, each colored half with one color, and half with a second color as rainbow stripes to the last flower in the triangle. Then I have various swirlies coming off of the triangle. It is on my right outer calf. I wanted a pride tattoo but wanted to design my own.

Now I need to save money for another 3 tattoos I have in the works, plus getting my ankle on my left leg added onto and having some fun with that.

unless it is a sex thing for you guys to enjoy i would not recommend piercing your nipples yourself. you can find a woman to do it if that makes your more comfortable.

i love the pictures! it´s incredible...for some reason, although i love tats and would love to have 20 more, i always feel i have to get them in places where you can´t see them too much ...is that my mother´s voice in my head? i come from a very classical mexican family..maybe that´s it. anyway, i´m getting both mine practically done over (inked in 1994 and 1996) and getting another one. i think i´ll do my leg!

just wante dto say that i absolutelly adore your arms MOTHRAGIRL. beautiful family!

gorgeous!!!! :D

Thanks :D

The sitting went well. I was there for about 5 hours. Here is the new picture (sitting #6 (http://new.photos.yahoo.com/album?c=candipooh&aid=576460762395338251&pid=&wtok=2gH4x4XvalmrCVgGmQFBLw--&ts=1175015834&.src=ph)) It was mostly tuch ups of the flowers. Just about all of them had something done (except the orange blossoms and bluebells) You might not really be able to see the diffrence unless you pull up both pictures (post 1994). The lotus and the daisy look the most different. I just fall in love with it even more after each sitting. And at each sitting I pick a new favorite flower. As of right now my fav is the lotus. :D

The artist said "we are pretty close to being 'almost done'" :lol Hopfully only two more sittings.

And yes...I know my stretch marks are odvious. :o

I'm new to this thread, but it sounds like the tribe for me. I have just one tattoo, but would love more. It's my son's name in Chinese, written by an employee of the Chinese resturant that I frequent. I have a nose, tounge, lebret, industrial ear, and regular ear piercings. I did have my belly button done, but as I gained some weight it started to become uncomfortable. Future tattoo's will also be devoted to any other children that we are blessed with. Dh thinks too many tattoos on a woman is "trashy". I don't agree with him.
