I figured it's about time that we start a tattoo and pierce tribal thread. We have had quite a few threads on this topic.
If your tattoo'd or pierced post here!!!
Tattooed, Pierced and present!!
I have 2 tats. Large sun on ankle and Aquarian water bearer smbol on breast. Pierced items, ears and nose.

Tattooed and pierced.
Two tattoos, celtic knot on left ankle, wreath of flowers and pentacle on left shoulder. Have my next tattoo all lined up and ready to go.
Have my ears pierced, and used to have my tongue pierced, though I took that out about two years ago - it was fun while it lasted.
Want to get my nose pierced....if I am not pregnant this month, I think I will go an get it pierced...and possibly my next tattoo...

Three tattoos. One on my ankle of my alma mater, another on the instep of my foot (ouch!) of a Celtic Cross, and another on my upper chest of another Celtic Cross. My DS#2 who is 3 points at them and asks "Ow?" I tell him only a little. !!!!:D

4 tattoos and nose pierced (just got it redone today)
Lisa, LOL your really milking out those ear piercings!!! :D
Erin, go for it!! I love my nostral piercing. I had it done last year, then lost it, and just got it redone.

Yes, yes I am :) Hey not milking them TOO much if I admit that 2/3's of my piercings are ear ones right? :p Yeah I don't really consider the ears "real" piercings (or at least not 'hardcore') especially since I don't have any spiffy cartilidge or tragus or anything like that... well I did have a cartilidge piercing but got a nasty keloid on it, so I pulled that out (and now REALLY want to get that keloid removed). Thats what I got for piercing it with a gun (at least I can say I didn't know it was a bad choice when I did it... at 16 or so).
But wow, when I finally can get all my tattoo work done, man, I'm gonna SO scare my MIL! I have a whole upper back/shoulder piece planned out (and now I'm going to incorporate the Orion constilation :love), and my ankles are eventually going to be anklets... and ah, from the link on my website you can see I've always got a million ideas for new ones!
Course I bet I'd scare the bejezzus out of my MIL NOW if she knew where two of my hidden piercings were! :eek :eek

LOL Lisa, I was just teasin ya :D
ok, upon further inspection I think my nose piercing is a little to far forward. He didn't do it in the exact same spot as my previous. And I was so concerned with finding someone experienced (this guy had lots of it) I didn't really consider the placement. Yeah, he marked it and let me look. But I don't know. I wish it was farther back. And I really don't want to get it redone. So, it's leave it or give up the dream. I tend to be obsessive about some things. I'm afraid if it isn't just the way I want it I will always feel selfconsiece.
ARG, I'm so frustrated. :angry :angry :angry

two tattoos, incorporating 2 halves of the Vajra (tibetan spiritual thunderbolt cross), representing the union of Wisdom and Bliss, on either side of my right ankle - #3 is in the planning stages for my lower back - piercings: 5 ear, 1 nose, one in the belly button all grown over. All in all not so radical I can't go undercover if I have to. But, my dentist informs me, I cannot be buried in an orthodox Jewish cemetery. Good thing I'm Pagan...

Well, I have my nose and ears pierced (don't wear earrings too often though since I keep losing them). I just have a small silver stud in my nose. (My 13-year-old daughter has the exact same thing.)
Tattoos - I guess it depends on how you count them. I have a branch/vine of lilacs on my shoulder/upper arm/back, the Big Dipper on the inside of my forearm (this one was the big ouch). Then on the outside of my right calf, I have one for each of my kids' names, but it's all kind of one piece. A turtle and a bear looking at each other and up at a star and a crescent (Terrapin) moon, and then below it is the world.
I'd like to get more, and I'm sure it will happen, I just don't know what it is yet. I usually don't know what it will be until right before I go, and when I get inspired I run out and have it done. I have a really great tattoo artist now (although I have had three others work on me who were also quite good). Probably what I will do next is get the lilacs extended, I really like that one (it used to be just black leaves, but my new artist colored the leaves and added the lilacs, they are great!)

Count me in! I only have one tattoo(lack of $$ and talented tattoo artists in the area) of Kokopelli. I also have several piercings, but they are slowly diminishing- a few months ago I took out my nipple rings(getting ready for when baby comes),and I had changed my labret from a post to a ring, and the ring actually started to cut my mouth wide open,so I took THAT ONE out too:crying (why deal w/ those kind of problems?)

hey you guys, WOO HOO that their are so many of us.
*after living with my nose piercing a little bit, I've decided the placement is good* I think it was just an adjustment since it wasn't in the same place as my last one exactly.

I am totally boring, one tat, and the standard ears. However, I have plans for any money I get for my birthday. (My family gives cash for birthdays, wahoo!) I am getting a faerie tattoo, probably on my right shoulder. I will probably also go for a pierce.
My friend Sharon is a riot. Her ears have about 8 piercings each, her eybrow, the bridge of her nose, and her belly. She has too many tats to count. Arms, torso, back of her neck and who knows where else. All are tastefully done and done very well. I am going to her artist for my work. He is also really reasonable.

Hi, one tattoo and several piercings here! I have a purple rose tattooed on my left shoulder. My navel, ears. septum, and nipples are pierced (nipple piercings have been removed for bf-not sure if they've closed up for good). I'm happy to see I've got plenty of company around here!

I am the boring one in my family....ears and nose pierced...considering tatoos in future, but kindof like the contrast of my uninked skin against my dh. He has 20 tats, numerous piercings and luscious long hair.
Between us (ages 23 to 6 months) we have 10 kids, of which 8 are pierced in some way and 4 are tatooed.
None are druggies, drunks, or otherwise harmful. Lets here it for defying stereotypes!
We get a lot of looks in our community (very conservative) when we go out as a family.:jaw

I have a tattoo on my right hip and used to have my belly button pierced, but took it out for babies.
Pynki, that's too bad your hubby doesn't like your digs, my hubby loved my belly ring and still loves my tat being on my hip and all. :wink
I've always wanted one more on my lower back, but haven't found the right pattern yet and I'm not an artist at all, so I will have to find someone to design something for me when I think about it seriously again.

Yay, I love this thread. :D
I have one tattoo, on my lower back, of a rose. Red flower, green stem, black and green leaves. It was specially designed for me, and I love it.
I want at least two more, one on my left ankle and one on the left side of my back. But dh hates tattoos so I have to negotiate a little. I'm hoping to get my back done later in the summer.
I have four holes in my ears, used to have one in the cartilidge, but took it out.
I had my belly button pierced, but took it out when I got pg with ds. I have an outie button, so I had a hard time finding someone that would even do it. It's closed, now, and I don't think I'll repierce it. I wish I had an inward one.
Someday, I'm just going to go out and get my lip pierced and not think about the consequences. Dh already hates the tat, so I'll just give him something else to focus on (and hate). :D

Ya know.. I have never had a problem with my belly peircing.. I take the ring out when it starts to bother me.. (You know when i start getting really big, and my innie starts moving to an outie).. So.. Around 24-28 wks.. THen i leave it out until about 2 months pp.. THen i put it back in.. I haven't had any problems at all.. I have 2 belly rings though, so if i lose one i always have the other to put in...
Good to know i'm not the only one who's dh hates the art they like on their bodies...

I have a few piercings... I'm kinda embarrassed about them (I'm so conservative these days, it's rather incongruous, hehe.). I have 9 ear piercings, 1 tragus, bellybutton, and used to have a nose piercing and a ring in a "special place". I took those out though.
Used to like the idea of tattoos, but I never got any, which is good since I'm Jewish.

One tattoo on my ankle, one set of open holes in my ears, one set of closed holes in ars and a former nose ring hole (considering getting it re-done). Also considering another tattoo...
I am pretty well decorated........ 2 tattoos (sleeve to be done this summer) and 7 piercings. I jingle when I shake my head. Any other stretchers out there?

WOOO HOOO nice size tribe we have here!!
for those will nipple piercings~ how long is the healing time?? I'm sorta considering getting one done, but I need to know how long the "off limits" time is. And anyone willing to share the plusses and minuses of rings verses studs?? You can pm me if you rather not post the info. Any other info greatly appreciated.

Four tats. Celtic cross on my left ankle, womyn symbol with a celtic triangle in the center and over it is written AMAZON on my right ankle. I have a Yin-Ylang symbol encircled by a sun with the dots in a pink and black triangles on my left shoulder and on my right is a cresent moon with stardust going from my shoulder down my back. I am looking at getting a couple more.
As far as piercings, I have 6 holes in my left ear and 4 on the other.

I think 2 months was the time my piercer said the nipple was off limits, but I still didn't like having it played with after that for awhile.. it was VERY sensitive for quite awhile there (still is more sensitive than my non pierced one) and it was too much if my Dh was trying to 'play' with it...
Nipples can take a long time to heal from what I've read, but mine went smoothly...
I have a curved barbell in mine now and like it, because I used to bump the ring, or on occasional caught it in my hairbrush as I was brushing my loooong hait (OOOOOUCH!). But for cleaning and healing the ring was nice..

Oooh I liked that idea too until the farting part... :LOL Not that I'd get any tattoo up my spine, after getting my butterfly to the side of the small of my back. OW OW OW is all I can say...
kudos to you brave people with more than one piercing and tattoo
You know piercing freak me out a WHOLE lot more than tattoos. I can go in to get a tattoo now and be calm about it, because I know the pain is low grade, more annoying than anything (with the exception of the butterfly one, which I think the guy REALLY ground in, so that may be part of why it hurt so much). But a piercing, owie a big needle sticking me! I have to work myself up big time before I get a new one...

Lisa, I thought it might be 2 months (seems to be the standard answer I get for all piercings). I was worried too about it being too sensitive for even longer. Part of why I'm considering just getting one done instead of both :-) DH would be really unhappy to not have access to any nipples for that long :-)
THanks for the tip on the hair too, mine is also really long and so that would be something I would need to watch out for. ouch.
thinking thinking. I haven't said anything to dh about the idea, I wonder what he would think??? hmmm might just have to ask....
you are a wealth of info and a bad influence, LOL :love

I only had one done for just that reason! I figured I'd have the other one done when the first healed. I never had it done because of how sensitive it has become...
Yes ouch with the hairbrushes! I had even occasionally caught it while wear a tee shirt and brushing my hair! Yeouch! A padded bra is all that really kept it catch free. But I don't have those problems with the curved barbell. Also the rings can flip up at weird times (in your bra, while sleeping) and kinda 'tweak' you in an uncomfortable way. I was happy to do the healing in a ring though, because if they used a barbell it would have been a longer one to accomidate swelling and cleaning, and a non snug barbell catches and twists just as bad if not worse than a ring. Once I got all healed and got a nice small close fitting barbell I was a happy camper though! :)
Arduinna
05-16-2003, 09:28 PM
I was going to ask about bras. I was wondering how obvious it is through a bra. I do not need a padded one, I have enough of my own padding, lol.
Lisa, thank you so much again for all the help. I really appreciate it.
StarMama
05-16-2003, 09:42 PM
No problem! :) As far as bras I don't need to wear a padded one and I can't see it *mostly*. If I'm wearing something tight or sheer it can occasionally look like I have three little 'dots' for nipples on the one (one the actual nipple, 2 from the beads on the jewlery)... but those are they type of shirts that make me look like I have headlights even when I don't have erect nipples! :D

New to posting here, but thought I'd jump in. I just got my first and secon tattoos!
I have the kanji symbol for woman on my back right shoulder, and a crescent moon with a heart-shaped band hanging off of it on my right ankle.
When dh and I were dating (we just celebrated 7 years of marriage in December) we always said that I was the sun, and he was the moon. So the moon represents him, and the heart my love for him.
I am eventually going to get a sun over the kanji to represent being a wife, and 3 rays shining down from it over the kanji symbol, to represent my three daughters.

Lisa...
I have really been toying with the idea of the nipple rings. (DH is a huge advocate for them :LOL) Can you tell me how bad is it really? You know, the actual piercing part. Also, I have heard that it makes your nipple stay "pokey", is that true? I just had my nose pierced and that did not hurt at all, but I have to think in a place as sensitive as my nipple, it would kill.
StarMama
05-16-2003, 11:56 PM
Honestly, I thought it was going to KILL, because my nipples are so sensitive, but it wasn't bad at all! However, one of my friend's had hers done that same evening, and she's not very sensitive and she was in serious pain from it (course thats proably because they went for it, and the needle got *stuck* mid nipple and they had to jab some more to get it all the way thru, sorry for the :eek :eek factor there). I've read a lot of stories about having nipples done and the pain factor does vary a lot... and I can't quite figure out why... but regardless its *quick* and the healing soreness isn't *too* horrible (I could wear a bra, it was SORE, but not owowowoww sore)... Sorry I can't be more specific of the pain levels... I have my nose done as well, it was more painful than that, but not a whole lot... it was very similar to my tounge piercing (thickness of tissue, the pain level) for *me*...
I do not have erect nipples from the piercing. I did have them more when it was first done, but I've had the piercing now for oh 3 or so years and its not always hard at all. And my nipples get hard EASY too...

how bad is it to get your nostril pierced? I want this eventually but am scared of the pain!!! Is it as bad or worse than the belly button? Or cartilage in the ear?
Nicke
05-18-2003, 08:38 AM
I have not had my cartilage or my belly button done, but I did just have my nostril done a little while ago. I was terrified going in (and I have sat through 2 tattoos). But it was SO easy. It pinched (not pain really) for the split second that she put the needle through. Other than that, it was nothing. :D I am sure it varies though from person to person (tolerance levels) and I would think on the skill of your piercer.

I had my nostril done twice ( let it heal and had it redone) it didn't hurt too much. It did make my eyes water. It's over alot faster than a tattoo, lol.
I talked to dh about the nipple piercing. Not to get permisson, just to see what he thought. He seemed intrigued, but I'm still concerned it will be too sensitive. Thinking about it.....

MUCH *less* worse than cartilage... also not as bad as *my* belly button (which migrated so I took it out) but that may have been because after she pierced it she took 15 minutes to get the jewlery thru! :eek

Yes it did for me... anything even remotely 'pinchy' is a BIG no-no now... and I never liked anything 'rough' before... so it requires very careful touching ect...

This is so me. I HATE needles. Dh is only gungho about me getting a tongue piercing, but I get panicked everytime I think about that. I don't think I could do it. That TV commercial about the kid getting his tongue pierced but thinking smoking is nuts makes me nauseous every time I see it. :eek
I got the cartilege in my ear done when I was sixteen, and that was okay. When I got my navel done, at 19, I told the guy I was worried I was going to laugh when he touched me, just because I'm so ticklish, and he looked at me like I was nuts. And I was nuts, it HURT!
I do have my tattoo half way up my spine, and it did hurt, bad, but I handled that a whole lot better than I did my navel. Ear piercing (normal) I can do fine, but anything else, I freak, right up to the point where I'm having it done.

Just joining in here. I have 6 tattoos and my nose pierced.
I have a wrist band that is a 1/4 moon on my right wrist,
Calla Lilies from my shoulder to about 1/2 way down my right arm,
a butterfly on a flower with my daughter Alyssa's name from my neck line down to my bra line and out over each shoulder blade,
My daughter Lauren's name on a banner held by 2 sparrows across my lower back and wrapping around each side on to my rib cage, this one is from my waist line to a little below my hip bones,
a dragonfly on a flower on my right shin, and
a sun on my left shin.
If I had more $$, I'd definately get more but clothing and feeding my girls comes first :) Luckily our friends own a reputable shop, so we get a big discount. My butterfly with Alyssa's name took 8+ hours but only cost me $120. Can't beat that (unless it's free :)

i don't know why i haven't posted in here before, since i have read this thread several times and looked up everyone's photos.
2 tats and i used to have my navel pierced. took it out about the time we conceived since i wasn't sure how it would do on a pg belly, plus it NEVER healed and it was 4 years old. it was always gooey. yuck.
my first tat is a gecko, with a purple zigzag on his back and he's gold that goes to orange in the feet. he's on my left "bikini" as the consent form states! left hip bone, which by the way kind of hurt when he did that part.
my second is my husband's name, sean, in black on my ring finger. it was done by Notorious Ed himself in Austin. i felt quite privileged. :D
i'm pretty excited, thus the push to post, because we are FINALLY planning a trip back to texas in about 6 weeks and i will get my third tat and sean will get his first. i have a friend who is a tattoo artist, he got his BFA and then apprenticed and is now totally qualified. anyway, i'm getting a lily, because my daughter's name means lily in hebrew. another arty friend of mine drew it for me. i am still deciding on the color scheme, but leaning strongly toward hot pink. i'm almost sure i will put it on my right shoulder blade. my other choices would be right lower back or right calf/ankle area. so, i'm excited to finally be getting it done! i really wanted my friend to be the one to do it, and it has been a LONG wait. we haven't been to texas in over 2 years. :crying

Hi--
Why didn't anybody tell me about this thread? :LOL
Well, let's see, I am not too exciting. But I'm a boomer. Got my first holes at 16. My parents made me wait. Boy, was I mad. 3 yrs later, got a 2nd hole. My friend did it with a needle after icing me down. Didn't help that her little sister stood behind me to hold back my hair, and said Ow Ow Ow the whole time!
Some time later, got 2nd hole in other earlobe. Later, got 3rd hole. Then cartiledge pierce in one ear. Hurt too much and wasn't healed after 3 mos, this was before much info was available and I thought it should've healed by then. So I took it out. tried again later with other ear. Stuck it out and now it's been fine for yrs.
Took out 3rd lobe earrings because it all felt too busy.
Finally, age 42, dh suddenly thought a tattoo would be good. Before this, he was all against it. Ran, not walked to tattoo place and got celtic triangle(triquetra) on right shoulder. I love it!
Kind of want another one, but can't decide. a dragonfly would be nice, but I can't find a good design. Besides, in my latish 40's now, everything is starting to sag and not sure where to put one that won't look like this :jaw in a few yrs!
My kids are getting poked now. Maybe I will live vicariously?

Daryl, my mom is 48 and I just brought her to get a tat. She chose a butterfly to be put on her ankle and then surrounded it with ivy. Then she decided to pierce her ear cartilage. Now she will be going back with me next Sunday for another tat. And she has a third picked out and ready to go! She looks great and loves it! :D

Tattooed, pierced and present as well.
I have 3 tattoos; ankle, calve and upper back and my ears, nose and tongue are pierced (I have had septum and navel as well but that was a while ago and they are now closed).
So what would you all say if your child came up to you and said they wanted a tattoo or piercing? :D

Tie Dye mom, I have a feeling my dd will probably end up inked and poked like her parents. Judging from her love of temp tattoos especially those air brush jobs. I've seen her eyeballing my nose piercing also.
I got my first tat when I was young and don't regret it.

One Tattoo on my ankle. I finally have a some money put aside and will get #2 next week! Yippie, a fairy on my shoulder.
I have two 16 guage holes in my cartlidge on my right side and 3 regular holes on the lobes on each side. I had the Tragus done, it hurt like nobodies business, my hair wound in it and yanked it and I took it out - NEVER to retrun again.

I don't know how I just came across this thread today:)
I've had my ears pierced 3 times on each side. After I did the second set of holes by myself and figured out that I could tolerate pain I got pretty addicted. I pierced my right cartlidge, nose, navel twice, both nipples, eyebrow twice, and labret. (not all at the same time, silly). My tongue was the only thing I had done professionally, and my labret is the only thing I've left in/open (other than the bottom 2 holes on my ears). I have always missed my nose, and will probably put it back in one of these days.
As for tats, it was another thing I went overboard with as a teen. I had a gangster boyfriend who taught me how to use needle and ink, so I put random dots all over my body to see if it worked, and then his initials into the crease between my thigh and pubic area because I had decided he was the only one who would ever see it . . .:rotflmao Luckily I'm creative and figiured out how to transform it into my name, but even the redo looks pretty ghetto. I've got a small tribal dragon on the front of my foot and a backpiece that I've been planning for about 4 years. I want it to be perfect before I have it put on, and am getting close (except financially!)

I only have one tattoo for now (a parrot on my right bicep - ugh) and 2 pericings besides the standard ear. I have my tounge periced and an industrial in my right ear. I hope to have my inner conch, tragus, nose (again - had it and took it out), my..um..."girl parts" and maybe my nipples periced again (had the right one done; took it out to feed babies :)) once I'm not nursing anymore.
I'd like to get another tattoo done, but I'm not sure what or where. I'd like to turn this bird into something more meaningful since I only got this becasue I thought it was neat. Maybe do my whole upper arm onto my back?

i'm thinking very seriously of having my left daith done. i just had a baby, so i guess i'll wait a few months :D

The labret is just below the bottom lip and above the chin. The tragus is a cartilage piercing of the ear.The tragus is a thick layer of protruding cartilage just below the rook. The daith is another cartilage piercing located just above the tragus. For more info you can check out the bme website.

Thats totally awesome! If you're using any kind of salt soak to help heal the nipples I've got a good tip. Putting the water and stuff in a shot glass, leaning over putting your nipples in it, and holding it snug against your chest so it doesn't leak really worked for me!
I want to add the Orion constilation to my tattoo now for our son :) Since I plan on making my shoulder blade pieces a sort of half backpiece with stars and swirlies as 'background' I'm going to have some of the stars make up that constilation... I'm also thinking of having the Aurora Borialis (I'm sure I murdered that word) added to the bottom, like the end boarder of the tattoo would be little mountains with the aurora borialis coming up over it... because if we ever have a little girl her name will be Aurora...

Hmmm, no one mentioned any kind of salt soak Lisa. Can you tell me about it? What kind? What to do?
All the guys said (as far as cleaning) was 2 times a day wash with Dial in the shower, making sure to "work it through the piercing" and then rinse it well and clean it with the antiseptic stuff (like for ear piercings).

I did the salt water soak when i got my belly button pierced.. The piercer told me to do it.. And i had a friend who had hers done then went to florida, and all the salt water made it heal really quick..
ANYWAY!!! What I did was fill a small glass (shot glass high ball glass) with the hottest water i could stand to have on my skin.. Then i put as much salt in in as the water could hold (mixing it up as i put it in) and then i would lean my belly button over the glass, and press the glass up against my belly.. THen walk to the couch and lie down with it on there.. Sort of swirling it around while i was laying down.. ( sort of a horizontal hula???)
My belly healed really fast.. Like about a month, and i didn't have any infections, and it really helped with the pain too...
Anyway...
I'm not Lisa, but that's what I did with a salt soak.. I imagine it's about the same though...

The antiseptic stuff might dry you out... is it bactine or something similar? I had no problems using that for my piercings (but have heard it can also be drying), but using hydrogen peroxide or alchol would be really really drying...
Every piercer gives way different instructions on how to heal piercings, but at least from my research online sea salt soaks are wonderful regardless (and for me they helped soreness too). You take 1/8th of a teaspoon of sea salt (I always used table salt and had no problems, but that isn't recommended by most 'professionals') in a cup of warm water. Of course you wouldn't need a CUP to soak a nipple piercing :) But thats the right amounts, its not supposed to be very salty, just the same solution as saline. I'd just add a tiny dash of salt to my shot glasses :)
I soaked my nipple for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times a day.
If your nipples get dried out (using dial and the antiseptic stuff) you might want to cut back the washings with the dial to once a day... How I was told to use the soap was to cup my hand under my nipple, let the water pool in my hand, and add just a drop of the soap to the water and use that mixture of diluted soap to clean the jewerly/piercing... make sure you get all the soap off of you afterwards though, or you might get all dried out too!
Of course I'm no professional, and I don't want to be telling you to change the aftercare regiment your piercer gave you like I know it all or anything, but that's what I did and it worked really well. I also have used the salt soak on just about all my piercings, and its really nice and soothing (to me at least).
Good luck getting them to heal quick!! :)

No tats, yet. Only current piercings are 6 per ear. Been thinking about re-doing tongue and nose. Dh thinks I should to re-do eyebrow too. Hm...

I'd love to re-do my eyebrow! It didn't hurt at all and I liked how it looked. But, my body rejected it and it actually popped out? The skin got thinner and thinner, then it just popped out :crying I'm thinking that if I get it done with 14K gold maybe my body will take to it better?
As for my nipples, I go back and forth on that one. My boobs hang so low, I wonder if it's worth it at all?
How do you guys find men that like this stuff! My H HATES my piercings and tattoo!! He wouldn't even look at my tattoo for a month. I finally forced him to look at it and he said "yeah, it's a tattoo". As you can see, that dosn't stop me from doing it! Ah well, the kids think it's cool...

How do you guys find men that like this stuff! My DH has the best tattoos. He got them all before turning 18, but made some really great decisions. In fact, it's how I spoke do him for the first time. We met in a class called "The Search for Utopia" and during the break I turned to him and said, "Why the hell do you have the Pixies symbol tattooed on your arm?" He fell in love with me right then because I was only the second person to ever recognize it (plus I was hot ;) ). At our wedding, the best man told that story and said how he knew that I was a catch (or something) when he heard about that.

Jacque, you're not alone. Dh hates my tattoo. And he's not too happy with piercings other than in my ears. When I tell him I'm going to get at least two other tattoos, he rolls his eyes and starts groaning. I figure if I get any more piercings, I'll just do it and he'll have to discover it on his own. :LOL

BUT many more tats in the works-I just can't decide what I want first and what I want where!
and I have 13 piercings. okay, okay 12 are in my ears-some cartlidge-and number 13 in my nose. I have pondered getting the belly button done, but think I might wait until I am slimmer. Then I think that day may never come so I should just do it!:D
oh and my dh, while not a big fan of the nose piercing, would never object and loves tattoos.Let me count his while he sleeps....8 done professionally and an assortment of sh***y little things done by friends in high school. Tattooed and pierced here - only one tattoo (upper middle back) and only one piercing left (tragus). I have this great fantasy of getting all of my piercings redone (used to have nipple, navel, two tongues, center lip and septum) and have another tattoo in the planning stages - a huge, colorful, dragon (probably traditional Japanese if I can find a good artist) to commemorate ds' birth in the year of the dragon.
Well, *sigh*, here goes....
In Jan I got my first industrial and it started healing nicely but then it started it get mildly irritated. I kept doing the sea salt soaks but on the entrance and exit of each hole there were red bumps and immediatly I thought oh god please not keloids so I went into my local body adornment shop and had them looked at and they had me pierce each of the bumps (aka friction cysts) and use a sea salt and aspirin paste on them. I did this for a month or so and it started to look better but then started to become worse because of trauma (mainly me sleeping on my left side). I went in a few more times and they took out the actual jewlery and put in sergical tubing instead to lessen the friction. That helped a bit but the cysts just didn't reduce in size. So on my last visit we decided that because my body just couldn't commit to sleeping on my right side we thought is was best to simply remove the piercing.
The happy ending is that because I can't have the industrial we stretched my lobe piercings to 2 6gs and 2 10gs. I am working toward 2 0gs and 2 10gs. I want to stretch my larger piercings to 0gs with flesh tubes and run rings through them. Aaaand I am starting my sleeve next month with a large lotus flower with the Om symbol rising out of it. I will post pictures as soon as I can.
Oh and next month I go in for a septum. Yayyy
You see..... I have a bod mod goal for my wedding. I want to be all decorated and pretty for my special day.

Keloids are NOT fun. I've got a LARGE one on the back of my left ear from a gunned cartilidge piercing I got when I was 16 (and didn't know that guns are especially bad for cartilidge piercings). It got so large I had to remove the piercing, and it still grew! Its almost the size of the last knuckle on my pinkie to the tip of my finger. Its so irritating and can be itchy and painful. Arg. I need to see if I can get it removed (and if my insurance company will cover it)... I also really loved the cartilidge piercing too and I miss it. *Sigh*

Oh wow, thanks for posting about the friction cyst. I'm sorry it happened. I think that is happening to me. About a week or so ago my nose piercing developed a red bump next to the whole. I thought it was a zit and then I thought it might be a keloid, but I'm not prone to them and it just isn't the same texture as that anyway. I think it's a friction cyst. It started after my jewelry almost came out. So that makes sense. It has gone up and down a few times since then.

Hello...back again.
I am TTC and thought we had a pretty good shot this month (I'm on CD 46 with no AF) but just got the results of my blood test and....it's negative. Such a bummer (long wacky confusing cycles are wearing me down) but on a positive note....
Now I can get pierced!

Told DH that will be my treat to myself this week and he's psyched.
I know I definitely want a nostril piercing. Left side. I've already mapped out the spot :LOL.
One question....
One of my students has an awesome tiny, sweet nose stud. That's what I want...very subtle. But she said she had to start with a hoop and then once that healed...she could switch to a stud. I'm not thrilled about the hoop idea (I work at a Catholic university). What can ya tell me?
Thanks!
~Erin
:love
Erin,
You usually have to start with a larger gauge but can move down to a tiny stud after it heals. I never had to start with a hoop but I did have to start with a 16g stud I believe. And in my experience it is usually better to go to a studio that bends their own nose screws instead of the prefab ones. ......... just my 2 cents.
Nicke
06-09-2003, 12:34 PM
Erin,
I too started with a stud (the corkscrew type post). I think it was larger (16 sounds right). I went back to the piercer a little while after it was done and had them change it (the stone was HUGE) so that I could go to a business conference and not p!ss my father off. :LOL It did get a friction cyst (I thought is was a pimple too Arduinna) and I popped it. Then I called the piercer again (geesh, already on a first name basis with this guy ) and he is having me wash with dial soap and use the cleaner 2 times a day again.

Hey there ladies :)
I have a question.....I have a tattoo just below my collar bone. I noticed sometimes it gets itchy and burn-y feeling...when i touch it it feels like the outline is raised. It is about 7 years old and a black/black tribal type tattoo. Any ideas what is going on with it? Should I be worried? My other tattoos are not like that, but they are not black or in such a sensitive place (ankle, back , butt). Waddaya think? TIA! :D
Oh yeah, and I am so glad I saw the info on nose rings! i am dieing to get one...you think 32 is too old :LOL ? I took out all but 4 of the earrings years ago to look more....well, mainstream.
Dragonfly, I think that is a great idea!
My ankle tat does that sometimes. I don't know why though. And no I don't think 32 is too old for a nose ring. I just did it a couple months ago and I am 32!!!! And I love it!
32 is not too old................. my mom got her first piercing at 40 and just a few months ago she got from her ankle to her knee tattooed. Yeah my mom rocks....... and is way more inked than me (I gotta catch up) ;)

No clue what a friction cyst is, but a keloid is:
A keloid is a scar that doesn't know when to stop. When the skin is injured, cells grow back to fill in the gap. Somehow, they "know" when the scar tissue is even with the contour of the skin, at which point they stop multiplying. When the cells keep on reproducing, the result is a what is called a overgrown (hypertrophic) scar or a keloid.
That is from http://www.medicinenet.com/Keloid/page1.htm
Basically its a big bunch of scar tissue that doesn't know when to stop growing... mine looks the same as my skin, same color, there are even little tiny veins in it (ew!). REALLY gotta get that removed. If for some reason you want to see what one looks like, you can see it in a wedding picture of dh and I: http://www.mattandlisahart.com/Wedding%20Photos/Formals/Matt%20and%20Lisa%20Formals/Princess%20Kiss.jpg Its on the back of my ear...
Anyways I came here tonight to show off a drawing of a tattoo I WILL eventually get that I drew tonight! :)
If you go to: http://www.mattandlisahart.com/tattoos.asp#idea and then look at the second picture you'll see my drawing... the first photo is the tattoo as it is now. I'm really proud of my idea (since its taken me eons to come up with an idea) and want it NOW NOW NOW (I have no patience) but well I guess I'll have plenty of time to let the idea sink in and make sure I still like it...

Wow, you are a great artist. I love all the colors. That ankh drawing is so beautiful. And the idea behind it is as well.
No problem Alison :) And thanks for all the compliments! I love my bright bright colors I use for my art, I think only once has anyone said anything bad about that (gaudy I think was the word). Wellll thppppppp on them! It was on a site that people give feedback on art though, so it wasn't like some meanie posting on my site or something.... eh, everyone has different tastes...
Thanks about the ankh. I drew it EONS ago, so I might touch it up a bit if I ever get it done.... I've got sooo many ideas swimming through my head, who knows what will actually get tattooed on me!

Yeah, the two bright pics of little babies on Lisa's site are my little ones!!!
LOL, funny thing. My 2 year old wants a nose ring...
She woke up this morning and saw it and said "mommy pretty" and then "me earring?"

LOL! That is funny! :) If she was older I'd suggest those fake magnet jewlery to give her a fake little nose ring to play with... I'm thinking a really little one might end up snorting the magnet end thou! :LOL I know I know find stick on jewels!! Ok I'm sure everyone would look at you like you were nuts but it'd be cute!
Can you tell I'm going to be pretty open to my kids having/wanting piercings and such when they are teens or close to it (as long as they *really* know they want it... and of course following the law as far as age reqs)? :D

My dh had something interesting happen to him today. He had a meeting today with some regional "suits" regarding a promotion. When he went in he did what he thought was appropriate for the meeting - wore a tie and removed his 14 gauge earrings. Well after the meeting one of his store managers asked why he wasn't wearing his earrings. I thought that was very cool. They accept him with his shaved head, earrings and all. LOL.
I am raising a future marked woman as well. I have a large chest piece and River keeps telling people that she wants a necklace just like mommy.

I too am going to be really open with my kids expressing themselves. I think I will try to get them to wait on peircings till they reach adulthood, just because they are way more permenant you know? I am still waiting myself just to make sure that I get what I am sure I will be happy with forever.
When I get us some jewels, I will take some pics fpr y'all!

I think you really are nervous! Mipple huh? :LOL Go for it if you want to do it! Just like other piercings the pain is only for a second or two and the tenderness afterwards while annoying sometimes isn't so horrible either (as long as no one is pinching said mipple... errr nipple :D ).
But I understand the nerves. I could never get anything pierced without being super nervous beforehand... good luck!!

You know what I'd never EVER have pierced again if I lost the piercing? My tounge. Oh the piercing itself wasn't that bad, it was the healing that was hell. I have a problem with TMJ and the two weeks of healing were badddddd... It felt like every muscle in my neck and face up to my cheekbones had run a marathon and ached so SO bad.... and my tounge got SO swollen. Oh yes and I talked like a complete idiot for two weeks. It was very amusing to my friends, but not to me... So even though I love the piercing now, I would never ever do it again.
So the nipple piercing and healing? Bah, not a problem! :)

mipple :LOL Arduinna!
The piercer told me no contact (saliva or otherwise) for 3 to 6 months. The whole healing process. It even said on the care sheet "remember, only your bodily fluids are sterile to you". I am such a paranoid freak I won't even let DH breath on them. :p
Okay so the outline and the Om are finished and it freakin rocks! I go in again in two weeks to get the grey shading work done then after that we do color. Yay!

Ok I think 4 highly visible tattoos is the "freak" line here in my town. I went out today in a tank, so my three shoulder tats and my armband showed (ok the ankle ones were visible as well, but they are pretty small and probably not noticed as much).
I had 4 people look at me like I had grown a third eye! Ok I'm just *assuming* its the tattoos. Or perhaps the tattoos on a seven month pregnant woman. I suppose it coulda been my weight but I don't generally get bad looks for that... and 2 of the people were specifically looking at my armband, then my face, then the armband... 1 guy who was staring was driving off as I loaded my car and shouted out "Hey whatcha doing tonight, want a hot sweaty night of...." thats all I caught... it was obviously sarcastic. I'm thinking he was proably more focused on the weight thing... but anyways, just wanted to post about it here, since I KNEW at least a couple of people were giving me looks because of the bodyart...

Some people! Just because they may not want to ink themselves or don't like the idea of them, gives them no right to look down on you (or anyone) for liking it. If they don't like it, they can stuff it!! :soapbox :angry
Whenever I get coments on my tats or piercings from my fam, I just let it go in one ear and out the other. If I didn't I would be awfully worried about going to hell right now (according to Gram's  ). Whatever.

K, I just have to share...
(not about tats or pokes, but hot pink hair on a 13 year old....soooo.....)
A very good friend of mine has a little girl that is almost 13 (dont tell her I calles her little. ) Anyhoo, my friend is a hairdresser and a couple of days ago she dyes just the botton two inches of her dd's hair shocking pink! It is a great color and very cool looking. She told me today that if anyone looked at her for to long when she was out she was going to tell them to "take a picture, it'll last longer." I was ROFLMAF!!! She was so cool, and so ok with herself, I was so proud of her. Just had to share.
BTW< the nose ring is all healed already! My ds has accidently pulled it out twice and it is still fine, so I am excited!
Shell
I have two tatoos... One of Africa from the "Sun's point of view", enclosed inside of it is a tribute to Africans and Native Americans coming together (picture of ankh and native american warrior shield- very detailed inside), that one is on my right shoulder blade.... I recently got that redone... making the details inside africa yellow...it's nice. The other one is on my right shoulder, it's Africa facing the way we normally see it, inside it is a ankh....my symbolism of giving life back to Africa. Less complex compared to the first. After having the second for about 6 or 7 years, I'm leaning towards getting it removed... I also got it at a time when I was really depressed and sometimes it reminds me of that... and sometimes I absolutely love it. so, I'm just not sure what to do about it. I have my ears pierced- 7... 3 on one side and 4 on the other... but I only use two on each side (all the others are a little uncomfortable for me to wear ear rings) and I have my nose pierced.... I always thought that during my first pregnancy I would get another piercing on the same side of my nose...so I would have two nose rings on one side of my nostril as a kinda rites of passage for myself... going into motherhood.... but I never did it... I still think about doing it!

my birthday is in just over a month and all I want is a new tattoo...now I've got to figure out what the tattoo will be!:D
I have several ideas but I would kind of like to incorporate something to represent each of my children into it, which means I have to keep thinking.
hmmm.....
oh and I guess I should decide which body part gets the ink!:D I'm leaning toward the ankle or top of my foot-or something wrapping around my ankle and extended across the top of my foot. I've heard that the foot is not the best place though-hurts a lot (I'm not worried about that) and doesn't wear well-fades quickly or something? What does anyone know about this? I've also heard that some tat places won't even do the foot b/c of this. BTW, I am totally anti-shoes so it will be mostly exposed regardless! Which of course is why I want one there!
:hippie
StarMama
07-01-2003, 02:36 AM
I think the top of the foot is a "bad" spot because a)shoes and b)the top of the foot renews its skin quicker than other areas (from what I've read). Designs supposedly tend to bleed more on the foot. I've wanted a tattoo there as well, and the best advice I've been given is to try to not pick a really super detailed drawing that would look bad if it 'fuzzed' a little....
I've also heard something about the skin on the foot being thicker? And that somehow interferes with the inking sometimes? I'm not 100% sure on that one though...

Thanks for the PSA! :D :LOL
I'm thinking of getting a butterfly of some sort for my next tattoo, probably this fall.
The spots I'm considering are my left shoulder blade or one of the insides of my ankle. I know it will have colors in it, because I love colors.
I know if I do it on my ankle, it will have to be smaller, so maybe it won't be as nice. But I'm starting to worry it will be too big or not look right on my shoulder blades.
Do either of these two spots sound like good spots for a butterfly? I really like the flutterby on Dragon Tales, so I'm considering a design like that. :o It's kind of cartoonish, but really cool.
I really want to get this, but I can't seem to figure out where a good spot is. I hate being so indecisive sometimes.
Anyone got any ideas for a good spot?

yes post photos girls :love
so, I ended up taking my nose piercing out last week. I don't know, I just got tired of having to think about it. Dh and I had to kiss a certain way or it started popping out. Not sure if it was catching on his facial hair or if we just bumped noses in such a way as to make it pop. And it got a little bump behind the jewelry that I thought was a friction cyst but never totally went away. Luckily it's all gone now that I remove the jewelry and it had a few days to heal. It just ended up being more work than it was worth.
so, I'm no longer poked, lolol just inked.

Oh yeah this was so funny but cool! Dh and I went to the pool at our apt and a bunch of little kids (oh 5-9ish) saw his armband, and my shoulder tats and my armband and said in this awed voice "wow, they have *hella* tattoos!" It was cool!
I also remember going into a local headshop (they have a good selection of body piercing jewlery, but I've never had any work done there) and this big buff guy (looked about 18-20) was asking the owner if they used anything to numb the skin before they did the work, he was obviously nervous... I had 5-6 of my tats showing (can't remember if it was pre-armband or not) and the owner said "No we don't numb the skin" and then pointed to me "She obviously could handle it"... Ok yeah that was a little sexist like 'the *girl* could take it' but I thought it was hillarious! I felt so studly! :LOL Of course I took a few minutes to tell the guy it wasn't *that* bad, and explained how it felt as best I could to him, because I remember prior to my first tattoo how freaked out I was too, and having someone, anyone there to tell me it wasn't as horrible as I was imagining it would be would have been wonderful! I remember the lady who did my first tattoo laughing evily when I asked how much it hurt and telling me "You're about to find out!"... Ok so she had a bad "bedside" manner, but her work was topnotch!

Aw thanks! :D I SO want to get my back done, but I'm still not sure how I want to do it... But I guess I've got awhile for that, since its gonna cost lotsa moola (and I'm still up in the air about whether I feel its ok to get a tattoo done while breastfeeding...). I keep saving tattoos that have ideas I like, so I can use them for inspiration... I don't want the tats that are there to blend in too much, but I want my whole shoulders/back area to look like one cohesive piece... I'll figure it out someday!
Thank you for the compliments!! I will be sure to post after my session on Sunday. I have like 3 hours of shading light coloring on Sunday and 3 more hours at the end of the month. Then I can start on my flower sleeve. I am getting a band of morning glories around my wrist on the inside of which will spell out strength then there will be calla lilies and tiger lilies growing up my arm. There will be butterflies and beetles and bees and ladybugs all over the place... ... just thought I would share again.

Angstmommy, beautiful!! I didn't imagine the om was going to be surrounded by flames, I thought it would be smoke, but it looks really awesome and shows off the om really well! Ouchies I bet your arm is useless! I remember how little I could use my left arm after my armband, and that whole thing took a little less than 2 hours, so I can't imagine how sore you must be! But wow, its sure worth it isn't it? :D I'll be doing my upper shoulders/backpiece like that, lots of sessions, and I'm sure I'll be darn sore when I get to it too (now if I could just finalize the design... oh well not like I can get tattooed while preggers anyways! :LOL). the butterfly does look cool Nicke!
I have a question that the answer is of course going to vary a lot to, but here it is. I went to the tat parlor tonight to run a couple of designs by the tattoo guy to check cost and stuff, He said that an anklet can run $120-$220 depending of course on the design, etc. One particular dseign I showed him was of a band connected spirals (um, that description sucked)--not very simple spirals but not a lot of intricate stuff either. The tat would have to be about an 1.5-2 inches tall inorder to keep all the lines from running into each other and he said it would be about $160.
Now, like i said, I know that is something that is going to very quite a bit depending on tons of factors, but anyone want to comment on how much their anklet (or any tattoo for that matter) cost? It's been several years since I've had one done and I'm just wondering...
(MY sis thought it sounded high so I figured I'd run it by more recently tattooed folks:D )
Thanks!
:hippie
Well, I don't have any on my ankle but my chest was about 250 my back was 250 and my arm is at 300 so far. And I am used to paying per hour so my chest took about 3 hours, my back 2 1/2 and 6 so far on my arm.

I have used the same guy for all of my tats. Eight years ago the rose on my chest cost $35, 6 years ago the Winnie Pooh (with 2 names) cost me $110 and two months ago the butterfly (and I also added my daughters to WP at this time) cost me $300. That one was very expensive for a few different reasons. It took a while, I had him tweek the design for me a bit and (most of all) there is a TON of detail in that tat. I know it is hard to see in the pic, but trust me, there is. :D

Thank you ladies! Like I said, its been a while since I've had any work done, so I really wasn't sure how much was the norm. When I had dh's name done 11 years ago, it cost me $45, then the one on the back of my shoulder (yinyang with two dolphins around it) I got at the same time that my husband and sister each got one and they did ALL 3 for only $200! That was 10 years ago-lol! So it sounds like that is a totally reasonable price for what I want now and this place does good work too. Cool.

13moons, I've found that generally its about $100/hr for work... since we're both in California I thought I'd throw that out for you :) I did have one place that wanted to charge me $300 for my armband (which took a little less than 2 hours) and $600 :eek for my Dh's (which took 2 1/2 hours)... I thought that was highly unreasonable, but it is a really 'pretty' shop, so I guess that's how they get away with charging so much. The shop I've gone to for my last 3 tattoos does a great job (I just was price shopping and seeing what this other place was like since its closer to home), ended up costing $150 for mine and $200 or $250 for Dh's... but they do look and act just like a typical "biker's shop" (but all the equipment is sterile just like it should be).... so I guess some people are willing to pay for the atmosphere! :LOL
Nicke cute tattoos! Too bad the quality is low... looks like you took them with a digital cam? If I try to take pics of my tats with my digital they come out all funky too. I think I try to get too up close to some of my tiny tattoos and it just doesn't work... but I get the idea of your tats and they are pretty! :D

Yup, a digi. You would think when one spends so much money on a d@mn cam, you would get better quality, lol. This is the first time I have ever been disapointed with the pics from it. :( Oh well. I will have to take some with the regular cam and scan them I guess.

Yeah, the guy did say $100/hour but he wouldn't charge anything to draw some stuff on and see what we like best ( I am completely undecided)--I guess some artists want half the money up front before they'll even draw anything.
He also gave me some good insights on the whole tattooing on the foot thing and I wouldn't be quite as hesitant about extending my anklet now. (I had been thinking about doing something vine-y that kinda grew out across the top of my foot.)

I have two holes in each ear. My ears are getting a little funky from getting pierced, closing up , and getting pierced again.
I have a tattoo on the back of my neck. It is three Chinese characters symbolizing friendship, love, and devotion. I got it the day before I got married.
And my wish list is for a celestial/moon/stars one on the small of my back, a Celtic knotwork armband, a blue and purple fireball on my inner forearm- the nonhairy part, maybe a dragon on my back/shoulder area, and the "Don't Tread on Me" snake on my ankle. Since my stretch marks are SO bad on my belly- it looks like one giant, wrinkled stretch mark, I keep joking that I should just get some giant picture on my belly to hide it all. I don't even know if you can tattoo over stretch marks though.
I've also heard that you can get glow in the dark tats but the ink causes cancer. If they can create a non-carcinogenic ink, I would LOVE a glowing tattoo!

wow! I've never heard of glow in the dark ink before!
AS for tattoos on strtch marks...I just asked about that one the other day. I'd heard they would not do stretch marks but the tat guy I talked to said it really depends...on how deep and bid they are mostly but also on the design of the tat. You can't do something with a lot of detail cuz it just won't work.
He had a tattoo in his book that he'd done where a woman wanted work done on a scar that she had. It was basically a straight-ish scar that was slightly wider through the middle-top. He had tattooed a butterfly around it with the scar in the middle where the body is (I know there's a scientific term for that part- sorry  ). It was neat-I'd never seen anything like that before.
oh and funny..I also want a Celtic armband and something celestial..somewhere.Not sure where. But, I'm going for the ankle first. I've decided to do it on Wed the 20th, so that gives me a little over a week to decide exactly what I'm getting!

Besides, I really like having faces to put with your names...

ps: Does anyone else out there have any scarification??
I don't have any scars (aside from my rosebush like maze of stretchmarks) but one of my closest girlfriends is branded.

I don't have any scarification, but I think its really neat, and have pondered it here and there... I may do something someday... I guess it takes more guts because its so much less mainstream. And it looks more painful. I KNOW what its going to feel like getting a tattoo, but I have no idea what kind of pain a brand/cut is you know?

Lisa Lynn, I encourage you to check it out!
Getting it done is intense, but not too painful....
The only downside is the fading. Sigh.

I got new plugs... I am sooo happpy! I have been looking for smaller gauge amber flared plugs and I finially found them. I will have to go from a 6g to a 4g but they are beautiful. I will take pictures as soon as I am brave enough to put them in myself.

Just called the tat guy and I'm getting inked tomorrow!!! It's been so long..I'm so stoked! I hung up the phone and dd#2 (who is 6) was sitting at the table and I said "I'm getting my new tattoo tomorrow!" and she says, "Cool! I wanna tattoo!" She got all sad when I told her you have to be 18 to get a tattoo done. DS, who is 3, says "And I'm gonna have a tattoo when I get big! ...On my arm--right here!" and points to his upper arm. So cute.:D
*sigh* I'll be back after it's done. BTW..I have no idea how to post pictures or I would. Maybe I'll have to figure that out now that I will have something new to show off!:D
I'm finished with my arm piece!!! I will post pictures as soon as I can. Yayyy

Oooh I LOVE the blues! I've never had a tattoo done in more than one stage (unless not liking the original and having it modified a year later counts) so I can't even imagine how *excited* you are to finish it when I get SO excited getting one done in one setting! :LOL Yes yes loooooove the blues!!

Hey, angstmommy,
Very, very cool.
Gee thanks ladies............ I am so very very pleased with this tattoo. After the wedding I am starting on my right arm sleeve it should take about a year to complete. I will be keeping a photo diary of the process so you can all see how it is going.

well, I don't know exactly what you are looking for, but my favorite is Pat Fish's site. She has a lot of great Celtic and some tribal and other stuff, but she is the "Queen of Celtic" and her site shows it. You can also by her designs with line drawings and color ideas and everything that you can print and take to your artist.
www.luckyfish.com
Oh, and I met her this weekend at the Highland Games in Ben Lomond and got to show her my recent anklet which was one of her designs-very cool!
Of course, if you're looking for something else, I've had a lot of luck just doing a yahoo search for _______ tattoo (whatever I was looking for).
Happy hunting!
:hippie
BME has a lot of pictures of really wonderful tattoos that you can get ideas from but the site is about all body modifications so it can me a bit graphic. It is one of the best if not the best tattooing and body modification sites I have ever seen.

hello to all !!
i am new to mothering.com, and have spent the last couple of days poking around. not preggers yet, but hoping to start TTC soon, and am VERY excited about it.
& was most especially excited to find this tribe!
here's my question (and if this has already been discussed, my apologies - is there a way to search?)
i have a navel ring that i would like to keep post-baby. i read in Hip Mama from Ariel Gore that you can put a length of fishing thread (the filament stuff) through the hole to keep it open. has anyone done this? do you do it yourself?
i got the piercing ages ago & am nowhere near where i originally went.
thanks so much!!! - worldwideweber
:wave PS to angstmommy - what's BME?

Too cute! I love anything celestial :D I'm really itching for a new tattoo too... thinking of stars on the backs of my calves, or to finish up my ankle work (will probably do that before the stars to make sure the two would 'go' together).

I am surprised I haven't posted on this yet.
I have 11 tattoos, although I count them as 13(one of them took three 1 hour sessions).
I have(from top to bottom)
a small butterfly on my right shoulder blade
butterfly with a tiger face about my right breast
purple gecko on my right side
bracelet of blue roses on my right wrist
four leaf clover on my left wrist
daisy with one pedal falling on my left hip
daisy on my lower back
large hummingbird/honeysuckle scene on my right thigh
goldfish above my left knee(outer)
metallic butterfly on my left ankle
green and purple butterfly on my left ankle
flaming red/orange/yellow butterfly on my right ankle
I have two holes in each ear
I USED to have my belly button pierced, and even though I liked it, it didn't heal fast enough for me and I took it out after a few months :(
Tmorrow I'll have DH take pics and I'll post em :)

ooh yeah I would love to see pics of all those! They sound awesome!
I want an oroborus but I am not sure where. Maybe on the inside of my wrist.
I also still want one on the back of my neck, I think those are so sexy! Maybe a scripty OM symbol or something...
oh well, I knew once I started I wouldn't be able to stop...

Last night Dh took pictures, but our digital needs new batteries, so I'll get some today. After going through this thread and seeing all the cool tattoos, I am really wanting another, and I said I was finished!
I'd love to get Kailey's name tattooed about one of the butterflies, or the goldfish.

Hi Ladies...
I have been itching to get my nostril pierced...left side I think...for years now. Can you pierced divas give me some insight into prices, ring or screw?
...And then there is my burning question:
I tend to get a pretty snotty nose (I don't know how to say it more, ahem, demurely, so forgive me?) come winter...and am wondering if getting my nostril pierced is a bad idea; I mean could such cause infection in a newly pierced nostril?
Just trying to be smart about it and figured this was the place to ask.
Thanks for your input!...Joyce in the mts.

Hi, Joyce.
Since studios vary so much in their piercing fees, as well as the percentage of "mark-up" they put on their jewelry, I would hate to hazard any cost ranges.
(If there's not an APP member studio in your area, I would call around and see who has the right answer to all of your questions ab
