I only have two weeks left so not much I can do about it....
I eat way too much ice cream anyway. I did it with my first pregnancy and now did it again. Ugh!
Maybe that's why I don't allow sugar into my dd's diet. She's had something with sugar in it maybe... 5 times in 2 years.
Any suggestions re how to rid myself of this guilt? I know it's not productive...

sugar addiction is so hard! i ate ice cream all the time when pregnant with dd; it was a good week if i kept it to every other night instead of every night. other than that i ate well, but i think that all that refined sugar definitely added to her weight at birth (she was 10.3#), and made the birth more difficult than it needed to be.
i've gotten pretty motivated this time to cut out refined flour and sugar (the book "nourishing traditions" helped a lot with this). i've found that i can eat sucanat, maple syrup and honey for sweetness and i don't have nearly the MUST HAVE ICE CREAM cravings that i did when i was eating the refined stuff, although i've taken a hiatus from that during the holidays somewhat and am hoping that it won't be too hard to start back on the path. i think that you can do yourself a lot of good even in the last two weeks by cutting out the sugar and getting ready for the work ahead--if it's driving you crazy, then it's not worth your time. on the other hand, who knows, maybe the milk protein is making up for something that your body really needs and isn't otherwise getting!
okay, this isn't a very helpful post. i wish you the best, though! in the end, the ice cream isn't going to do the baby any harm, and if it makes you happy in this, the last phase of pregnancy, then pshaw to guilt.

I had some issues with my appetite literally being gone causing me to lose weight for a few weeks (28-31) so my peri actually "ordered" me onto an ice cream diet - she said it'd be great to have some ice cream every night.
I'm a huge fan of Breyer's ice cream and my favorite is the chocolate/vanilla/strawberry half gallon. I could eat that every day! I'm not really into anything more complicated like Ben and Jerry's, just my Breyer's neapolitan.
I don't eat ice cream normally so I'm giving in now during pregnancy...I eat healthy and work out a lot normally so I know I'll be able to bounce back once I have this little one.....I say just enjoy it while you can!

My midwife says that icecream can be a good source of calcium and fats, which you actually need extra of during preg. As long as you are eating lots of other good nutrious foods I wouldn't sweat it!

i have spurts of ice cream additictions. so i can relate- don't stress but if you're looking for healthier alternatives try these
peel and freeze ripe bananas then put them in a blender with just enough milk to help blend it you don't need to add any sweeteners if you are using ripe bananas
it should be thick enough to eat with a spoon
you may also want to add strawberries/or a bit of chocolate (the hersheys type stuff to make chocalte milk) some protien powder etc or stir in a few nuts, you can be inovative
i make it for ds with just the bananas n milk just add whatever i have but he thinks hes having ice cream for breakfast helps me make it and loves it. i'm sure there are frozen yogurt and frozen pudding options too but this is the simplest
enjoy :)

Thank you so much!
I think its true to take it with stride and to find alternatives.

I'll check this book out.
Also the frozen banana smoothie is a GREAT idea! Tonight I had vanilla yogart with granola instead of ice cream. I think this is the trick for me though - to have replacements.
Thank you all so much!!!! Happy pregnancy and labor to everyone!

dont stress about it this is the one time that a women is allowed to....actually supose to....gain weight!!!
I did the same thing with DD and i didnt want to do it this time but the morning sickness got soo bad that i was dropping weight....my OB asked me what i was keeping down and i told her the only thing that stays down is crappy food i dont want to be eating....and she told me it was either eat some crap and at least maintain my weight (which i have been able to do) or keep losing and end up in the hospital (which is what happened first!)
