This is specifically for those of you with adopted children but not exclusively.
Do you think now that Monica and Chandler have decided to adopt that the show will make it seem really easy.
How would that make you feel?
Are you happy that TV will be portraying adoption or are you worried they won't do it justice?

After all " Emma" is only seen during sweeps, and with it being the last season, I think it will be POOF here's your baby, And thats not the way its done, some families wait years to have their babies, So like usual they will take a serious matter, and make it simple

I agree that it will be shown as relatively easy rather than realistic. After all, this is a comedy show. I don't watch the show very often, so it won't have any impact on me.
I have mixed feelings about depictions of adoption in the media in general. I'd like for it to be seen as more commonplace, yet the media seldom gets it right and usually focuses on the negative or sensational.

i was thrilled with the decision (i tell my feelings on adoption on another thread in here) at first i was nervous that the couple on friends would go through all the fertility treatments without even considering adopting, and after researching the kids out there i am heartbroken when people pass over that idea. I am even trying to get my MIL to adopt an adolescent now LOL she feels too old and my BIL thinks his parents having another kid is too weird.

why are they wanting to adopt? I must have missed this episode. I think that they will make it look like a joke, just like they did about childcare and breastfeeding. Soaps portray having children better.

monica's uterus is an "inhospitable environment" and chandler's sperm have low motility. so they're adopting. they'll probably get the baby during sweeps next season.

They will probably just prepare to adopt and then find out they are pregnant or something. Wouldn't want to tackle a "real" issue on TV ya know

well i've heard she's pg irl so the either have to write around that or write it in. i suppose if she's pg mostly on the off-season they could write it out so it'll be interesting to see what happens. but in the end i think they'll gloss over the important issues and make light of it all. then again, it's not a drama but a comedy.

oooooh, where did you read she's pregnant IRL? i know she had a miscarriage 2 years ago and she was 37 then, so it would be nice surprise for her to get pregnant. maybe then she'll achieve a healthy weight.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed how they simplified the infertility issue, too. Based on how they covered it, I'd say they'll simplify the adoption issue, if they actually do end up needing to adopt. I'm interested to see, but don't expect to be terribly impressed. ;)

ooooh, perhaps I mis-spoke. I thought I read on the cover of one of those tabloids that she was pg. i tried to do a quick search and couldn't find anything. so either i mis-read or it's a vicious rumor -- sorry! i suppose time will tell
