It's very very windy. Our little juniper tree fell over and last night my dh had to walk home from CS because there was no bus service (he said) :dizzy:

How fun that you're visiting family!! Have fun!

It was the biggest storm since 1990. Train service in most of the Randstad was suspended. The train part of Amsterdam Centraal was evacuated due to the roof blowing off. The road between Utrecht and Amsterdam, the busiest in the country, was closed. It was pretty crazy. My brother and his wife were flying out that day, but obviously didn't make it out. They got stuck at the airport, but KLM was kind enough to give them a hotel and dinner and breakfast. I was surprised. Ian couldn't go pick them up because it was so windy and they were telling people not to leave their houses under any circumstances. Anyway, I wouldn't let him drive out there and that was the only way to get back to our house.

Long story short, it was very exciting! You should check out the footage on-line from the NOS.

There were trains int he entire country. Noti n Germany, either. Very heavy. One of the worst storms I ever recall in this country. If we had wooden houses there with southern US building codes, it would have looked like Florida after Andrew.

Our neighbor's and our patio roofs were rattling hard in the wind and the sound it made was kind of scary. But they didn't pop off, thank goodness. Well I guess it's just as well that we were sick and had a pajama day that day.

Well at least two loads of laundry got dried quick out on the patio. :wink

2 yr old DD had an routine ear check in the afternoon of the storm so I put her in the didymos, on my front and facing me, and caught the bus. A few streets were blocked due to some debris on the road, so the bus took a bit longer. She stayed in the didymos for the entire trip, appointment, and back, and a few people including the doctor were surprised that I was carrying such a "big" toddler. I'd much prefer her to be attached to me than have a stroller blow away, I commented. The buses were just packed with university students trying to go home before the storm became worse and it was nice that DD could just snuggle. I did have to stop and take cover and hold on to something a couple of times during the strong wind gusts. People were very quick to offer help when they saw a child attached to me.
Now I hear it might snow tomorrow. I hope so!

you guys, I must be in la la land...I did not even know there WAS a storm. My husband said he heard about it at work, but I didn't notice it. I need to start watching the local news!
and I am glad everyone's ok!

I think you must have been sampling too much of the local merchandise! :lol
