View Full Version : Urgh. SIL "My new OB doesn't think VBAC is any safer than repeats"

WTF???????

How can I show her evidence to the contrary?

When I had my VBAC, my OB had me sign a consent form. It showed the statistics on risks to mothers/babies in VBAC VS Repeat Section. It was blatantly obvious which was safer.

Where can I find factual information for her? She told me this weekend that her new OB said it was up to her and that repeat sections are just as safe as VBAC and that he would support her decision but that her chances of needing another section were higher than if she'd never had one. (Her last baby presented breech and she had a scheduled cesarean). :angry

I'm VERY opinionated and tend to be abrasive when I feel passionately about something, so I think if I could find good, factual, scientific-based information for her it would stick best.

If this is the same SIL you posted on the other board about, chances are she won't WANT a VBAC (just being judgemental, sorry)

But good for you for wanting to help. I have no info handy tho.

Check your library for Henci Goer's The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth or any of her other birth related books. Great stats all over the place.

Well, I looked, and they don't have it!! Someone stole the copy! <grr> (even on interlibrary loan).

Oh well. Maybe I'll just suck it up and buy it for her when she gets pregnant.
