I'm anxious to talk to others who are expecting in October! I got a BFP on January 22nd, with an EDD of October 3. Since there's no DDC for us yet, and I'm not 100% sure I want to stick with September (who knows when the baby will be born, though!), I thought I'd start the thread. :D

Here's my info:

Name: Heather
Relationship status: married to DH for 7.5 years - he's excited!!
Children/Pregnancies: This is #3 - I have 2 DSs so far
Due date: Oct 3
Birth plans: We will home birth again with our wonderful midwife!
Other: not sure what else to put :D

Look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi and congratulations Heather.

I got a faint BFP on Sat & Sun (Jan. 20-21), which puts my due date at around Oct. 2. I am expectantly hopeful...I had 2 miscarriages last year. So, I may drop out at any time.

Name: ASusan
Relationship status: married to DH for 1.5 years (together for 11+)
Children/Pregnancies: This is #3 - I have 2 MC so far
Due date: Oct 2
Birth plans: Wish I could have a home birth, or a birth center, but it will be in a hospital. I am high-risk (with lupus and kidney anatomical anomolies), and DH loves modern medicine.
Prenatals & supplements: Prometrium; Perfect Prenatal & Kroger brand; B-complex; B6; fish oil

me too!!!! i just got my 2nd BFP this morning, so i'm starting to believe it...EDD around Oct 5-6

anyway, i've been married since August to Chris, we have a 1yo DS, Adam, and so far my birthplans are NOT to give birth in the same hospital as last time, and NOT to use a DR (there's only one m/w in my area, and i'm praying i can snatch her up!)

Congrats, mamas! :D I just got another BFP, this time on a CVS test rather than the internet cheapies I'd been using. Guess it wasn't a fluke! :D My 4yo is SO thrilled! Now we need to get the grandparents over here to tell them. And I think I need a nap while the kids are napping! :zzz

Hi all, Congrats on your BFP's!! My due date is September 30th, but I will definately be hanging out in the October thread as it is a distinct possibility that I will deliver in October.

Due Oct 7th... though I might stick with the Sept DDC, since I've never gone longer than 38.5 weeks, and that would still put me in Sept.

Hi! My name is Heather. I am due Oct. 6. This is technically my 6th preg. I have a 3 yr old dd and a 5 yr old ds and have had 3 m/c in the last 2 years. I plan to birth at the hospital with my mw completely unmedicated just as before. :wink I will probably jump between the 2 ddc because I usually have my dc a week or 2 early. I look forward to getting to know youall.

HeatherB - Thanks for starting this. I saw your posts over in nursing ttc and now I think I get to join you here. (I'm so excited and hoping it's really true) I got a faint line this morning (13DPO) which puts me due on Oct 5th.

Me: this is number 2 for me. My son will be 2 on Monday. I'm hoping for a homebirth this time, after a successful natural hospital birth the first time.

Anyone know how/when we get a due date club?

HeatherB

So glad to see you here, Dinah! :D I have no idea about how/when DDCs are created. I joined my last DDC closer to the births.

I was just looking at this site and the descriptions (detailed, scientific) of baby's development...

Thought it might be interesting to some of the other mamas here, too! :D

wow -- those images are very realistic. It was neat to follow along with my chart and see when things were probably happening.

Just an fyi to anyone who may have m/c'd at home and seen the baby -- it might be hard to look at some of the images. Or it might be reassuring to know that what you saw was normal. Just a bit of a warning. For me, it was a bit of both.

HeatherB
01-26-2007, 12:37 PM
Brisen, thanks for the warning. As one who has NOT experienced a miscarriage past 14dpo, it never occurred to me. I'm sorry if it was disturbing for you. :(

:hug and :sticky for you!!

Brisen

Thanks for the hugs. I was already pretty sure it was going to be that detailed, and that it would be sad to see but also helpful in reassuring me that things were normal. I just didn't want anyone to get caught off-guard.

so anyone else feeling queasy? with DS i barely had a toouch of nausea, but with this one, i actually started feeling ill a day or two before i even suspected i was pg...blech...

anyone hoping for a boy or a girl? i'm sorta secretly hoping for a girl, but another boy would be easy and we'd be able to stay in our little 2 bedroom house a little longer (once we're done co-sleeping, i can't see a boy and a girl wanting to share rooms, but who knows?!)

Hi - here's my update.

I had wanted to just not do anything - no dr visit, no intervention - and just wait to see if this one would stick. And I was OK with that decision, until I realized in the middle of the night, that if I had done that before, I would have gone at least 2 months with my "blighted ovum," not knowing that nothing was growing. Because, I still had tons of pregnancy symptoms - hunger, nausea, sore breasts... - long after we knew the pg wasn't viable. So...

I went in for a beta HCG yesterday. 749. I know that you can't tell anything from one test alone, but it is right in the average of where it should be for 5.5 weeks. (wishing it were higher, but trying to remain positive) I'm getting another blood draw on Monday, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it keeps rising.

Here's a link that has info re. the relationship bt week in pg and level of beta HCG:

http://www.birth.com.au/class.asp?class=6620&page=8

I did have some pretty bad cramping last night, which was similar to the cramping I had during my previous miscarriages. However, it has subsided today, and I'll just try to stay positive. (Maybe it was that steak I ate at dinner!! I can hope!)

I also finally told DH last night - I figured he might see the slight bruising on my arm where the blood draw was. I told him that I just wasn't as excited about this pg, having had 2 mc. The other 2 times, I could barely think about anything else all day. It was just like Christmas morning when you were a small child. I was bursting with excitement. This time, my attitude is more like, "Well, hope it'll stick this time. Maybe I should keep a couple of pads in my desk just in case..."

Sorry if I'm a little down. I'm really OK with this. Just not bursting-at-the-seams excited.

I am feeling queasy, in the morning before I've eaten especially. Not enough that I feel awful, but enough to make me eat, & then it goes away.

My name is Heather. I have an EDD of 10/04/07. This is my third child. I have a 13 month old, and a daughter who is 3 on Sunday. We are super excited about this. I have been married for 5 years to my DH. I am a SAHM. Not sure how I am going to manage 3, but I am really excited.

I just got the PREGNANT result on my HPT today. AF was due today, and I had already gotten 2 negatives on HPTs earlier this week. My husband said he knew earlier because I have been glowing.

Well, it seems as if I'm going to be here.

I just got my BFP at 10dpo yesterday and another with a digital today.

I'm so shocked this worked this month. I was completely convinced I was NOT pregnant. DH thought differently and made me test. We went through the same thing when I was pregnant with my DS.

So, here I am! I pray I get to stay!

Hi everyone! I just got a BFP today, and I'm so excited! I was charting (with a client's birth somewhere in there, so I missed a few days of temping) and I'd put my EDD around October 11. I can't believe it! I'm like 2 seconds pregnant.

This will be #4 for us... I can't believe we're on 4 already. We have MZ twin boys who just turned 4yo last week, and a girl who will be 2 in March. I'm kinda hoping for another girl -- I like even numbers! Anyway, that will put me with 4 kids under 5yo. Holy crap! But I'm excited. I was at church today and I was feeling a little nervous and the pastor said TWICE during the sermon, "God says 'be fruitful and multiply'" and that made me feel a lot more calm. I'm just FRUITFUL, is all! :lol

I had my boys vaginally in a hospital, and my daughter in a birth center, and I am really looking forward to a wonderful homebirth with an AWESOME midwife who I've worked with, but never had her as my midwife.

So far I'm feeling fine, peeing like 253362623 times a day and feeling tired.

well, i saw my GP today, to tell him i'm pregnant. he was lovely, didn't even need me to POAS for him. i love that he completely trusts my knowledge of my body! he doesn't do obstetrics, unfortunately, so i'm just trying to get in touch with the nearest midwife, although i'm really skeptical about her taking me on...she's over an hour away, and my last labour was only 5 hours, so it might not work out...if not, i met a great dr at the hospital when i was having DS, and she's my 2nd choice. she's completely earth-mama with dreads and everything! lol

so, here i am, waiting for the midwifery clinic to call back! let's hope she calls soon with good news!

so, has anyone started telling people yet? i'm trying so hard to wait at least another week or two, but i just wanna shout it from the rooftops! :p

I went to 42 weeks with DD but was induced. My mom was very late for all 6 kids. Im expecting to be late and Im hoping i can just trust my bady to do what it KNOWS how to do!

:jumpers: Congrats Sera, YumaDoula, MommyCrystal, and everyone else!! :jumpers:

We've been sharing our news slowly, which has been nice. :) I'm at 5wks now (21dpo or so) and with no history of loss, am ready to have it known. My boys are SO excited, too, so they keep wanting to tell, and I hate to have them wait and wait and wait! :D Of course, I'm still quietly terrified of having something happen... but as a midwife told me when I was in a similar state with my 2nd baby, it IS my baby already. Whether or not it makes it to term, it IS a baby and it always will be - so if the worst happens, we'll deal with it, but at least we'll have friends and family who can help us through!

Okay, that sounds a lot more morbid than I intended... Sorry!

How is everyone feeling? I'm tired, hungry, thirsty... I've had a lot of light cramping sort of feelings, but they're subsiding somewhat. Not as noticeable, anyway. I know I probably have another week before morning sickness kicks in! So far I've gained a little weight (2-3lbs), but I generally lose a LOT of weight once I start getting sick, and then continue to stay even or lose the rest of the pregnancy, while baby grows just fine. Best weight loss plan I've found. ;) I'm also going to be doing a 12-week fitness class at the gym, which my midwife approved, so hopefully I'll also be getting into better shape!

that is sooo unfair...i gained almost 50lb with DS, and weigh about the same as i did the day after he was born! ugh...

what is the 12 week fitness class you're doing? is it a pregnancy class, or...?

Well, starting out way OVER weight has some "advantages," I guess! :lol Within a couple of days of DS2's birth, I was 30lbs lighter than when I got pg. BUT, it didn't stay off. :( We're starting again at about the same place.

The class is called "TEAM Weight Loss," and is a 3x/wk for 12wk class at the local gym. It incorporates nutritional counseling/journaling with cardio exercise (treadmill) and some upper-body strength training with hand weights and some stretchy bands, etc. They're really good at having each person go at their own pace, and my midwife says she thinks the benefits (regular exercise!) will outweigh any potential drawbacks. She did say she would want to look at the nutritional info closely, though, as there are so many fad diets and what-not out there. Gotta make sure it's nothing weird!

So my DH and I will be doing it together starting next week!

YumaDoula -- kind of. I'm tired a lot, and also have a hard time sleeping sometimes, but not to the extremes of exhaustion and insomnia. Thank goodness!

I called my mw today. I thought there was a mix up about my appointment on Wed -- it was the same date and time, I realized before I called, as my first appointment with my last pregnancy. They can only do 4 births/month and there is often a waiting list to get a mw, so I was worried that they thought this was still my due-in-late-Aug pgcy and it would be a problem. She was glad I called and I can still have the same mw, but they don't do appointments until 8 weeks. I tried to explain to her that I have a history of early m/c and wanted an early appointment if possible, but no. Could they refer me to someone then, since I don't have a family Dr? No. I guess they have to actually have an appointment to refer you to someone. Then she said "But you have a family Dr you can go to, right?" Er, I know I'm not always clear on the phone (I get very nervous; I think I need a shower after that phone call :o ) but I just said I don't have a family Dr, that's why I wanted to come in early! (No, I didn't actually say all that, I just said "No, I don't.") Anyway, I'm hoping the vitex will make a difference for this preg. And if I do start to spot or miscarry, I will call them and ask to come in for blood work -- that is what they usually do, I've always just said no, I know I've miscarried, and not bothered (except for with my first m/c). So hopefully they will, if we get to that point, be able to refer me to someone. :dizzy: Crazy state-run healthcare!

But :fingersx: hopefully this preg will stick! Go, vitex, go!

stacey -- uhm, a bit more than the recommended amount. :o I'm using capsules; they say to take 3 a day (with meals) for the first month, and then one a day after that -- but they focus mostly on it being for pms. So I started taking 3/day, and got pg before the 30 days were up. Then one day after my pos. test, i was feeling crampy and like my period was about to come on. I took an extra capsule, and the symptoms eased, and I've decided to take 4/day now. That is completely just what my intuition is telling me to do. I was wary of upping it to 4 a day because I was doing it out of worry -- I thought it would set a precedent for just taking more whenever I was worried, and I worry a lot. But I feel like this dosage is right and don't feel the need to increase it. I don't know if that makes much sense; I'm just going by intuition. :shy I take them generally when I first get up (often early to pee and have a snack), then with bfast, lunch, and dinner. I plan on cutting back to 3 caps when I hit 4 months, 2 at 5 months, 1 and six months, and then none for the last trimester. That's just based on the fact that I've heard it's best to wean off fairly slowly, and that it is unnecessary in the last trimester.

Im So tired! and nervous, and happy and excited, and worried, and still in a bit of shock. We were using protection! We have only told a select few. I want DF's parents to know first, but i do feel like its a bit early to say so, but at the tame time i want to scream it in the streets! This is exciting!

Im not nauseaus though, which is weird because my last pg i was sick all day and all night till after 7 months! it was awfull! I am extreemly *ahem**** horney. My drive is through the roof! Unbelievable. Am I the only weird one? My last pg i was so uninterested! This feels so different! Im not used to this!

I'm exhausted, SO thirsty all the time, a bit crampy, but have no morning sickness...yet at least.

I got the call from my Dr. yesterday with the positive result from my blood test...it was not at all a surprise as I'm 5 weeks now...but it really helps DH to have confirmation from the Dr.

I have my first OB appointment next Thursday and can't wait. I hope there is some way I can convince them to do an early ultra sound.

Brisen

You just type it in, using asterisks, numbers, and whatever smilie you want. You have to change it yourself.

I'm thinking of putting one in my sig, now that I'm actually 4 weeks (well, as of Sunday).

ETA: So, for the one in my sig, I did this:
[color= dark orchid]**** : shy 5****10****15****20****25****30****35****40[/ color]

except without the spaces in the color tags and smilie.

this does' feel real yet, will be me and my partners first child so it is all extremely new to us, and we only tried for a month and are both shocked i got pregnant so fast. i took more tests today just to be sure
i guess i'm not just happy and excited but also really scared of this being real.

Hi all,

I had a little spotting yesterday - and they did a blood draw for my second beta. Today, the spotting is brownish (which I think is not a good sign?) and I have to wait until 4pm for the results of the blood test.

I am super-hungry, so I'm headed out for some food. When I get back, I get to call the dr's office for the results of the beta - I'm hoping for a number between 2800-3200. (Which would be in the range of doubling last Thursday's 749 twice, if that makes any sense to you.)

I have my first OB appt on Thursday. I really DON'T want an early ultrasound, but my guess it that if the beta results aren't in line with expectations, that I will have to have one. (Unless, of course, bleeding starts in earnest between now and then.)

Oh, and I think my cervix is open. That's not good, right?

HeatherB
01-30-2007, 02:26 PM
ASusan, I hope your results are good! Please post when you find out. My feeling is that brownish blood is "old" and therefore not as alarming as bright red, "fresh" blood. Does that make sense? I know there are a lot of women who spot (or even have full-blown menses) for parts of their pregnancies with no ill effects. I hope that's the case for you!

Yes, I have to admit - I've been eyeing the online stores. I also can't wait to tell everyone, start interviewing midwifes, etc.

This morning (18DPO) I got my first solid dark line, after a few days of faint lines so I feel more confident now. I may even tell my parents when they come over tomorrow.

I discovered that my favorite store (that being the one that carries clothes I can actually wear!) has started carrying maternity! I told DH that it was a sign that I HAD to have another baby. ;) But I am trying to resist shopping TOO much until I actually need to. :lol The troublesome thing is that I really need some new bras, and I was about to get a bunch, but now I'm not sure if I should wait or go ahead! Hrm... Anyhow, I am eager to get into maternity wear, but it is true that I just bought a bunch of "real" clothes, too! :eyesroll

I discovered that my favorite store (that being the one that carries clothes I can actually wear!) has started carrying maternity!

what store is that?

ugh...does anyone know how or when we get a real DDC?

The store is Lane Bryant (sz 14+).. they started out as a maternity store and are finally adding it back in again!

I have NO clue how the DDC thing works. I find it a bit strange that we have folks coming in with edds towards mid-month and still have no official spot. :( But my first DDCs were on another board that did DDCs EARLY. Mamas would join when they were TTC for that month, then move to the next month, etc. I don't think I've been part of a DDC here this early!

ASusan, congrats on the high numbers!

I have been spotting brownish blood -- I removed my IUD just after af ended, and I believe it is just old tissue. Also, the blood vessels swell during pregnancy, which can lead to bleeding if there's any sort of irritation (yeast infection, sex, etc).

Yes, I keep waking up at like 3 or 4 in the morning wide awake. Oh, and I am exhausted at 8 when the little ones get up and want to get going. My body seems ready to sleep then. :dizzy:

I do this too -- did it through much of my pgcy with M as well. Frustrating sometimes, but mostly I just went to bed at 8 or 9 when the kids did and started my day early. Often I would have a quick nap in the afternoon, though.

Congrats Matt's Mom!!!

How are you guys getting the results of your blood tests so fast? It took my dr's office almost a week to get the results of my blood test back to me! Here's hoping my OB's office will be able to do it quicker.

Well, I've told almost my whole family now...still trying to get in contact with one of my brothers, but the cat's pretty much out of the bag. I'm feeling pretty confident that this baby is going to be sticky.

My dr's office does them on site, if you have the blood draw at their main office. I was getting the draw done at their suburban office, which doesn't deliver the blood to the main office until noon or so...so if you get a draw done in late afternoon, you don't get the results until the NEXT afternoon (after 4pm). I thought THIS was a long time.

IIRC, my old OB with my 1st pg, had to send their blood to the hospital, so the results took 2-3 days. (And had an extra layer of billing associated with it.)

I have been waking in the night to pee, which is NOT unusual for me. What IS unusual is that I have been having problems getting back to sleep. This has been happening for 3 weeks. SOmetimes I wake as early as 2am...and can't get back to sleep until 4-5. Last night, I finally was able to go back to sleep relatively quickly. Here's hoping for the same this time.

And I'm not exhausted. Yet.

The whole purpose of the HCG is to find out if your numbers are doubling (at least) every 24-48 hours, so I think most people have it done, get the results, and have it done again the next day or two.

With my dd (this is SO tmi, you are warned, feel free to skip this paragraph) I was nervous because I was spotting but it was actually... a bleeding hemorhoid. UGH! I did the HCG with my doc, and it was fine. This time, no HCG -- I'm going on faith that things will be okay, and if they're not okay, well, I still have faith.

Yea, I actually slept last night. Thanks for asking. One of the main reasons I had such a bad day yesterday was that I was watching my 3 year-old nephew for the whole morning. We don't know each other well, and his mom and I have very different parenting/life styles. He was very taxing, and he kept yelling at my daughter (and would have pushed her many times if I had not been standing between them:p ), who is very sensitive. It was so hard. I also feel on edge with my emotions. When he left, I sighed with relief and was glad he had not hurt my children. It was especially hard because he doesn't know me and refused to listen, but kept running around the house yelling "I don't have to do anything you say!" and when he wasn't doing this he was glaring at me on the couch. This went on for hours. It was hard for me to be patient with my own children with all of this going on, and lack of sleep, and extra pregnancy emotions.

In answer to your question, "my one-year-old takes a nap, but my three-year-old does not." I do though encourage her to have a little bit of quiet time with a book during this time. This helps a lot, but is too short.:lol My kids are so precious to me, and actually having my nephew as hard as it was, really made me appreciate my children tremendously.:wink

Today looks a lot brighter than yesterday, YEY!

Well my boss/friend was NOT so excited when she read my blog today. I work at the YMCA on the weekends, in membership, and also I work out a lot. She was like, "All that work on getting your body back after having 3 kids and now you're going to quit working out (and working)!" :gloomy:

I told her NO, I'm going to need both the endurance AND THE MONEY, so I am not quitting.

Hers was actually the first negative reaction -- although I always expect it from people when I say I'm pregnant with #4. I'm in a small town and most people have 2 kids, 3 at the most, so when someone breaks that norm everyone seems to freak out. (Luckily, or whatever, my best friend had her 4th last year so maybe she broke them in.) So far everyone has been very excited.

I'm bummed about my boss but then I have to remember that she's in a totally different situation than I am. We have always planned to have more kids, I have always wanted to be a sahm with a large family -- and she and her dh don't have those same plans.

Brisen

Thanks, paisley! :D

Sorry to hear about your boss, YumaDoula. I'm not looking forward to my family's reaction about our fourth -- though I have already told my brother and he is happy for us. But I think about the only family my parents actually know with more than 3 kids is dh's family of 7 kids. Well, and my dad has 5 siblings. But around here as well, the norm is 2 kids, maybe 3 if you have an oops or have 2 boys or 2 girls and want to try for the other sex. My parents have 3, and #3 was not planned. So, yeah, I'm wondering how they will takei it. We haven't told anyone about the miscarriages; they don't know that we are going for another. We live about a 4 or 5 hour drive away and visit maybe every other month. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for them to figure out that I'm pg. I've had people at church who see me weekly say they just found out I'm pg, how far along am I? when I was 6, 7, 8 months.

I was hungry last night -- we were overdue for getting groceries and dh was going to go out on his own, but he got home a bit late from work and then wanted to unwind a bit before heading back out. So I was busy getting food for everyone else, and then keeping my crazy toddler happy and reading bedtime stories and getting the kids ready for bed while dh was out. He came home a bit after the older two were in bed, and M and I put the groceries away while he made multiple trips up and down to bring them all in. M took a bottle of seafood sauce out of the fridge at one point and was carrying it around; she was just about to put it back in when she dropped it. She's a toddler, and not a very tall one, and yet the glass jar broke when she dropped it from maybe 1.5 feet off of the ground. It smelled SO GOOD as I was cleaning it up -- if it hadn't been on the floor and full of broken glass, I think I could have chowed down on plain seafood sauce. :o

Brisen, I was starving last night. I honestly could not believe how hungry I was. I ended up not eating anything because I have been feeling sick a lot, and did not want to get sick.

So, how many children does everyone else have? What ages are your kids?

I have period like cramping still...it was a lot worse at week 4, but every now and then I feel like I'm about to get my period. I'm hearing that it's completely normal...my Dr. told me that sometimes your body gears up for AF even though your pregnant, so you get some of those symptoms.

I'm pretty new to MDC, and just POAS and got a BFP! This was our third month TTC, earlier this week I had a teeny bit of spotting and thought AF was arriving, but the last day or so I just knew...Esp. when I started crying looking at cards today!

So, I'm Andrea, I live in Ontario, I have been married 6.5 years, we have an almost 2.5 year old DS (Liam, as you can guess), he is still nursing, and I'm a little worried about possible pain, and the prospect of tandem nursing, and how we are all going to fit in our bed! (Liam joins us most every night, and we think with this baby we'll just start out co-sleeping right away, learned from experience!)

I look forward to posting with everyone! I don't think I have permission to add more smilies to my sig just yet :)

Oh, I guess I am due around Oct. 11? I was due that day, born Oct. 13! I had a prediction that I would either get pregnant/find out/give birth in Jan. so I guess the first is true. The prediction says girl, we'll see about that. I'll be happy either way. I had a pretty rotten experience with the on-call OB at a hospital with DS, so am planning to go the midwife route this time, probably in a hospital still though. I really want to avoid the epidural this time (again, learned from experience) but that thought scares me too. Anyway, I hear midwives are hard to get in with, so maybe I should go make a phone call...

:) :) :) Happy!!!

:wave Andrea, I'm also in Ontario, in North York. Call the midwives asap; they fill up fast, and women who have had a midwife in the past are given preference, I believe.

I've nursed through all of my pregs (except the first) and for me, my milk dried up at the end of the first trimester. At that point, it was sometimes really annoying and a bit painful to nurse, but it was still better than having to deal with a cranky toddler while I was pg and tired, IMO. Then some colostrum came in near the end of the preg. Having a nursing toddler really helps avoid engorgement once all of the milk comes in, and your nipples are ready as well. We also mixed up and changed around beds and sleeping arrangements several times as the kids grew.

Just called my fam doc, can't see her until next week, and was going to get a referral to my OB in case the midwives can't take me, but do I have to have a referral to midwives do you know??? Or can I just call them myself?

I'm not sure about BC, but in Ontario, you can just call. I don't even have a family doc right now, I just call as soon as I get the positive test and they take my info. But they don't make an appointment earlier than 8 weeks, apparently. But BC might be different.

I'm having some provider difficulties as well.

I am going to have a homebirth. I will make a contingency plan for a hospital birth, but I'm going to have a homebirth.

Problem: There are no hb mw's in our town -- in fact, there aren't any for 3 hours any direction.

Solution: Find one who is willing to travel. However, so far everyone has said no. They've told me to have a hotel birth in their cities but I want a birth in my home. I am on state lines, and I've found one mw who is willing to look into getting certified in this state and if she can she'll help me. I found a provider here in town willing to do my prenatal care even though I'm planning a homebirth -- the CNMs here work with doc offices who prohibit them from working with homebirth patients. :dizzy: I feel like it would be easier to buy 50lbs of an illicit drug than to get a homebirth in this town.

So send me some good thoughts of finding someone willing to help me!

Congrats to all the Oct. mommies, btw!

Brisen, thanks so much for the tips -- I was considering the m/w in North York actually, but I'm kind of in between and there are other m/w that have been recommended to me that have privileges at the hospital closer to home (I'm thinking hospital birth right now). Today I will call. (And thanks for the pep-talk re: nursing while pregnant.)

YumaDoula, I hope you find a m/w and get the birth you want!

Mamablair, as to telling, I don't know either! Last time we waited until 12 weeks, but had (heaven forbid) anything have happened, I know I would have turned to my family for support, so...This time, I thinking I may tell my family earlier. In fact, when we told my mom about DS, we gave her a "grandma" bday card, and we're seeing her for her bday on Sunday so I was thinking I'd do the same thing. DH says it is up to me to whether we should wait or not. I for sure won't tell work until 12 weeks though, unless I pop...

Not until at leat the first trimester is over. We've always done it that way, but especially now after early miscarriages, I just don't want to tell everyone and then have to un-tell. I know some people feel differently about it and like to share with their family and friends, but I'm a very private person and just wouldn't feel comfortable. I've thought about telling my MIL -- she has 7 kids and had 2 m/cs before her youngest, and I know she would be happy for us "despite" the fact that this is #4, and understand how I'm feeling wrt the miscarriages (my mom has 3 kids, only one was planned, and no m/cs... just a different experience from mine). But I also know that she would worry about us a lot, and she has 6 other kids, plus some spouses and grandchildren, to worry about. Still, I might tell her once we actually have another baby safe and in our arms. She pulled something similar on her mom -- they were living overseas when her youngest was born, and her mom was in Alberta. She didn't tell her mom about the pregnancy at all! She said she knew her mom would worry. :p But we visit regularly, maybe once every month or two now that we live a bit closer (to both of our parents), so I'm not sure how long it will remain a secret for. I'm short and somewhat slim, but I don't have an hourglass figure -- I'm built more like a boy, same size from shoulders to bum :o so it might not be so noticeable. I always feel like I look huge, but unless I'm wearing something very form fitting (which I don't like to do), it's hard to tell that it's a pg belly and I'm not just eating too much chocolate.

I have told my brother, though, and a couple of close friends IRL who know how to be discreet.

My DH and I are going away for the weekend just to stay in a hotel leaving in a couple of hours. My 1 and 3 year-olds are going to my dad's. Everybody, have a great weekend!

Liam's Mum, I just wanted to check and make sure you know about the catchement areas (I think I spelled that right). I don't think it mattered when I lived in London, since both mw groups covered the whole city, but here they don't all cover all areas. I'm with Community Midwives of Toronto, which are downtown -- I'm just inside of their area, just south of the 401. I know there is a website that lists them, but I'm on my dh's account and don't have my bookmarks here.

Have fun, momgotspunk!

Oh, OK. Wait, just went to the association web page, and yes, it lists the catchment areas -- hmm, seems like both groups I had in mind do service my area. I'm torn because the group with the office furthest from me delivers in the hospital closest to me, and I've heard good things from a mom who has gone with them. On the other hand, the other group (who I don't have a reco for) has a more convenient office, but we now live a bit further from that hospital (where I delivered last time) -- and I fear that should something go wrong and I have to be handed over to an OB, that I'll end up with the jerk I had last time, defeating the whole purpose of having a m/w!

Decisions, decisions!

Hi ladies!!

I just graduated from the TTC forum and I am Oh So happy about it! I am only 3 1/2 weeks pg so it's still very early (I'm due Oct. 15). I have my first set of beta Hcg tests back and I am so happy to know that we've gotten started on the right foot. My first beta came back at 58 (at 14 DPO) and the second at 16DPO came back at a whopping 284!! Does anyone know if this could mean a multiple pg? If so I'm gonna have my hands full come October!!

:lol

Liam's Mum, that is a tricky decision. One thing I really dislike about the system here is that you can't shop around for midwives. I think technically that you can asked to be switched if you have a problem with your midwife, but I think you just get switched to whoever else is available, if someone is. And you could still end up with that mw at your birth -- to whom you've clearly sent an "I don't like you" message. I mean, ideally they would be professional about it, but they're still people with feelings. I remember being in the waiting area at an appointment once and a woman came in, hoping to interview midwives. The receptionist had to tell her that you basically just get whoever is free. But most of the info that you read online talks about interviewing care providers. So, it's kind of disappointing. I really, really love the mw who I had at CMT last March, and I asked if I could have her again and luckily, she had space for me. I call that office first because she is there, even though their office is inconvenient for me to get to.

I'm not sure what I would do in your shoes. I would probably call the one with the more convenient office, since styles and personalities can really vary midwife to midwife, and you might not get the same ones your friend had. And since you only go to the hospital once, and there is only a slim chance of getting that OB, the easier driving to the appointments would win out for me. Just go ahead and call somewhere, now, though, because they do fill up fast! If the place you call first is full, they usually put you on a waiting list.

Inspired -- welcome and congratulations!

Liam's Mum, just wanted to add, sorry about your experience with that OB. :hug I had a horrible OB with my first -- wonderful family doc for the first six months, and then just went with the first OB who was taking patients. Ugh. Talked about cutting me to get the baby out (yes, in those terms) at every appointment, because I'm short and small. Luckily, since my appointments with him were in the hospital where I delivered, I didn't realize that I needed to call his office to let him know I was in labour. And in any case, I showed up almost ready to push, so they barely got an OB (resident, actually) in there to "catch" the baby anyway. He was a big deciding factor for me with choosing a mw and homebirth.

Thanks again Brisen -- apparently the offices don't open until 10 today :)

Yes, a friend is having that very problem with her midwife, personally they are clashing (though the m/w gets raves from other moms) but she really can't switch and is feeling sad her experience isn't turning out like what she was hoping for.

Oh and to add, my own OB was ok, if rushed, it was the on-call guy I didn't like, pretty much yelled at me to be quiet among other things. So yes, a factor in the m/w decision, I'd like to have a better chance of knowing who will be there (and not get yelled at!)

I've only told immediate family (parents, brothers and sisters) and a few people who NEED to know this for planning purposes.

I was supposed to be in a major international competiton the 2nd week of October and they'll need to find either a replacement, or re-work everything with out me, So I thought they needed to know as soon as possible.

So I have a question for those of you who are still nursing - we are mostly at night, and I wondered if this has any effect on prego symptoms...just a thought I had, since I have been feeling tired but other than that no more symptoms so far - other then the constant need to use the bathroom :lol

We're still nursing at night, too, and it's getting to be more and more uncomfortable for me. My main symptom right now seems to be fatigue. And thirst. And hunger. And fatigue. Did I mention I'm tired? :lol

Both yesterday and today I've woken up feeling like I'm "coming down with something." I need to go find the new zinc I just bought. Other than the exhaustion I feel better later in the day, but I can't tell if that still means I may be getting sick. Thankfully my midwife said that echinacea (but not goldenseal), zinc, and all homeopathics are safe while pg. Glad I've got my cabinet stocked!

hello everyone. :wave
I am for the moment pregnant.

I feel a little scared about the whole thing because of a very recent loss (we got pregnant by surprise before my first post loss AF). I actually have no idea how far along I am, but I think between 4-6 weeks, which would put me into the October DDC. We just found out on monday and it has yet to really sink in. I probably will not post too much on the DDC (when we get one:p ) until a few more weeks have past by, but I wanted to say hi to everyone. I have a doctors appointment on valentines day, so hopefully that will bring good news, heart beats, and first pictures. It seems so very far away.

Sticky sticky caramel vibes to this little pumpkin. :fingersx:

Hi everyone!

I've told like every person I've come into contact with that I'm pregnant. First I'm impatient, and the waiting would drive me nuts. Second I just share everything with everyone. Third the only reason I wouldn't tell is concern about a loss, but I'm fairly young, have never had a loss, and if I did I would tell everyone anyway. So yeah, everyone knows. I feel like this is going to be the longest pregnancy in history. :lol

I work at the YMCA and I work out quite frequently so I told all the instructors. I've been taking it down a notch during my workouts and I wanted them to know I am not just a slacker!

Anyone having any symptoms? I just noticed today that my boobs are GINORMOUSLY HUGE. Like, I took off my bra and they practically burst free. Also, all I want to eat are dairy products. I've eaten so much cheese, yogurt and milk in the last week that dh wants to buy a cow.

Some symptoms..My boobs are huge too...I had to break down and get a new bra because I was pouring out of my old ones. I've upgraded from a 32 DD to a 34 DDD...I'm not looking forward to continued growth in this area. It's hard enough finding bras at my regular size...I can't imagine finding the bigger cup sizes with my smallish band size.

I also think I've got my first small dose of morning sickness. I thought I was going to skip it, but I feel pretty nauseous right now. I'm crampy, gassy, bloated...but I don't really have any true cravings or aversions.

OH, did I mention I'm exhausted, cranky, and unmotivated?

Here, here!! I had a workshop that I *just* entered the order for, from Tuesday! Talk about unmotivated - I typically get those entered right away, as I love doing it! We were at our home group last night for a baby shower for friends, and I barely moved after finding a comfy place to sit. Doesn't help that my regular jeans are getting tight! :o I'm on the lookout for comfier pants now... suddenly those "transition" pants don't seem like such an absurd idea! :lol

I've been nauseous for 2 weeks now. It was my first symptom--I was pretty sure I was preggo before my BFP because this feeling was eerily familiar to my first pg. I'm also super tired and pee all the time. No boob growth here...darn!:lol

Welcome to all the new mamas who have joined us!! I'm so glad this discussion is so active this early on.

I had my first OB consult yesterday. It was basically a little hand-holding session. I didn't expect that anything would come of it, but DH seems to believe that medical professionals should be consulted and/or that they can "do" something this early.

OB is basically very happy with my beta HCG (posted earlier: 749, then 5,127 4 days later), and he didn't see the need to do a third draw. I go back in a month for my first ultrasound (~8-9 weeks). I will be closely monitored due to lupus, but I don't want an ultrasound at this point.

I have very few symptoms: big boobs, likely due to the progesterone I'm taking, and perhaps I was nauseated last night and this am. However, I had a pretty bad day at work yesterday, which resulted in a very emotional evening. (cried myself to sleep - haven't done that in years) So, my upset stomach could have been emotional. Basically, my career is going to h#ll. Another reason we're keeping this under wraps at the moment.

I'll be gone for the weekend and most of next week. I bet by the time I return, there will be a lot more women who have joined us.

Mine is 1 oct and I went exactly 9 days early with both my kidlets so I am probably more of a sept edd but I don't wanna push it. Is there a dictionary online of all these acronyms? I have managed to figure some out but I am not getting all of them.
I (sadly) just weaned my ds (4 y/o) but my boobs hurts so much! I full term bf'd with dd(10 y/o) and always though ds would stop when he was done. I have had a ton of cramping this go round (6th preg) but no signs of miscarriage :thumb Although I was reading about someone else bleeding. I bleed (red and clotty) with ds pregnancy for the first 4 months and still got a healthy baby. My m/w thinks he was a twin, so does he. We are all real excited and planning another homebirth.

My toddler is 2.5 and still nurses regularly. Every now and then, it's sore when she nurses, but my supply hasn't dropped yet, so it's not bad. Although, last night she woke up at about 5 and nursed for an hour. It's not at all unusual for her to wake in the middle of the night to nurse, but usually she just fills up and falls asleep -- doesn't take longer than 15 mins. Even switching to the other breast didn't help. It was especially frustrating because I had woken at three, and stayed in bed until about 15 mins before she woke up, and decided I would get up and get some food because I was starving and obviously not getting back to sleep. I had taken 2 bites of my english muffin when she woke up -- and I was still starving! :o

I had more nausea and heartburn yesterday and this morning. I find that getting up and doing stuff, especially like picking up toys where there is lots of bending down and getting up, makes both worse. And today I have to take D to his swimming lesson; dh usually does it, but he's out at a seminar thing until this afternoon. I'm not looking forward to keeping S and M happy there in the heat and chorine-y smell while I feel like this. :sick

I did 2 POA that were both positive! Yeh!!!!!!! This is going to be our second baby.

Me- Hayley
DH- Jay, married almost 3 years
DD- Nyamae, 16 mo
Due date- Oct. 12 (Nyamae's due date was Oct. 26, born on Sept. 20)
Birth Plan- We are planning a home birth, especially after Nyamae's unplanned hospital birth. We have just moved back to Ohio, so we have some homework to do with regard to finding a midwife.
My concern- Nyamae was early, healthly as can be, but early so I am technically "high risk". I am nervous about finding support for a homebirth and I resent the negative expectations regarding "prematurity".

So, do you do crunches?

I bought a maternity tank top from Motherhood today! I got it on clearance for $15, I thought that was a pretty good deal. I went through the maternity clothes I have from dd and the stuff I got off of freecycle over the summer (getting ready for when we were going to ttc) and I have way more than enough pants (6 pairs of pants, including overalls, 3 pairs of capris, a and a pair of shorts) and a bunch of tops (some that I don't really care for, but that's ok.) Dh and I kind of agreed to buy (new or secondhand) something new more often than we did with dd (we spent a total of $150 on my maternity clothes with her) so that I can feel better (I was really lazy when I was pg with dd, lol.)
ETA: This is the top I got:

My SIL who is due at the end of March has all my maternity clothing so I'll have to make do with yoga pants and t-shirts until then.

I hate to do that when I have a huge wardrobe of maternity clothes waiting for me as soon as my SIL is done with them. I'd rather leave the free mat clothes for someone who really needs them. I'm happy to make do with yoga pants and hubby's t-shirts if I have to. I adore my SIL and every time I see her big belly in one of my t-shirts it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

I was working in an office environment when I was pregnant with my second so those 3 bins of clothes have everything from jeans and t-shirts to business clothes and church dresses.

What I would do in that case is accept a little, and then freecycle it right back out when you get your clothes back. I understand where you're coming from, not wanting to take anything from the needy, but I figure if you ask for them (rather than ask for some that are offered) it's not taking anything from anyone that would need it (because if they needed it, they would ask for it, right?)

I'm sort of afraid of jinxing it, so I'll write really small.

Does anyone have any experience with the BellaBand?

I wonder if it would be worth it?
I remember struggling with pants and skirts when prego with dd.

mrsrwbabe, I JUST heard about this, and good things. I think I'll get one -- hey, I can do that "layered top" look that all the cool kids around me seem to be sporting these days (I am so out of style!) Just looked at this site and am excited it's at a store near me!

glendora, sticky vibes for you!

Welcome all new Oct. mamas!

Hi, everyone.

Hi, glendora. I know what you mean!

Welcome, Jeni! This is #4 for us as well, and my due date is Oct 7th.

Baby Makes 4 -- welcome and :hug and :fingersx: for stickiness!

Hi everyone!

I just got my BFP this morning. My EDD is October 17th!

I still can't believe it. Wow.

This is my 6th pregnancy, I have 2 living children and I am praying that this bean will be our third.

Welcome, Salihah! We have a lot in common too -- I've been bfing for 7 years, over 3 kids, too; I had a m/c in December; and I got pg again before having a period. It's scary, but exciting, isn't it? Do you have any thoughts about what might have caused your m/cs? I'm thinking low progesterone, and I started on vitex after my m/c in December.

For any mamas interested, there is a great 'Pregnancy after Loss -- February' thread going on over in pregnancy & birth loss. Lots of extra understanding and support there. :hug

Liam's Mum, any luck with the midwives?

I've been feeling more nauseous and tired over the weekend. I went to bed with a headache and general yuckiness at 10 last night... woke up at 6:30 feeling yuckier and dehydrated... and after drinking some water, stayed in bed until 8:00! But I felt much better, and luckily my older kids cooperated. My toddler got up when I did, but my older two slept until after 9.

They are supposed to get back to me this week and let me know if I'm "in" :) I went with the group that delivers at the hospital nearest me, thinking if I stay over for whatever reason, we'll be close to home for DS. Now to think (we've got lots of time of course!) who to get to watch him on the big day...

I really like the top! I tried to cut and paste the capris I got, but could not get it to work. They are plus size and an olive green color. I think they are really cute. I probably spent about 150 on my maternity clothes for both of my last 2 pregnancies. I was really lucky with my son, because someone loaned me 2 huge bins full of almost brand new brand name stuff. I felt so lucky. She is due in June, but I hate to ask her again. I will probably go to Freecycle or the like for the rest. :) I love the giving and taking that goes on with being a mom and maternity clothes (and baby clothes and stuff).

Oh, and yes I did give them my phone number. (duck) Although they already had it from when I bought something 3 years ago.

So this looks great...I might try it...but I still don't get how it works...anybody explain? How does it work if you're using it with your pre-preg jeans?

Thanks! :lol

mamablair, I *think* how it works is, you can leave your pants undone, and then you put this tube-top thing around the top of your pants to hide that (and so they stay up).

Hi, I got a BFP today. I am feeling very cautious about this one because I do not feel one iota pregnant and this cycle was weird. But, I think I upset some people on the last thread with my news. I feel awful. So I am switching to this thread and maybe that will be positive thinking on my part. I recognize some of you from the other thread. How are you all doing?

Welcome and congrats!! Don't worry too much about upsetting anyone else - there's nothing you can do about their situation versus yours, and your post was completely appropriate! :)

Glad you're here!!

Thanks Heather, I was pretty upset about it.

I am excited to join you all.

I don't know when I will feel okay about this BFP. Maybe 2 weeks? Did anyone else go through a period of feeling cautious? I had bleeding for 4 weeks with DS, so I didn't relax until 2nd trimester.

Hey chicks!
Like a pp ( previous poster) said, sometimes pregnancy can surprise you.
I am a poas-aholic.. we've been "trying" since June, not preventing before that for a year, and lived in together earlier in life for 5 years using nothing! with no results. So on saturday night, 2 days before AF was due I decided to take a test just to reassure myself that she would be here any minute so carry on with my nightly glass of wine.. imagine my surprise.. O, M, G, is that turning pink?!! I think it is!! (mini-panic attack=heart beating, face flush. etc) The timing was totally off.. I usually chart but quit a couple a months ago cause it was just making me into a scientist and really mad when the temp dropped.. Anyway took a CB digital the next morning and *ting* it said "pregnant" right away!
I live in Atlanta and this will be my third child..(fingers crossed!) I have 2 dd from a previous marriage age 10 and 6. First child with dh.
I only told my sister (other than dh)so far bc she is the only one I would tell about mc.. hopefully that won't happen though.

Ah, thank you.

I haven't had a positive pregnancy test yet :o but I just know I'm pregnant. I took two tests a couple of days ago and the first one showed up as invalid and the second one was a negative. :irked: I think it was just too early. Now DH doesn't want me to waste any more money on hpt until 2 weeks from now. !!! I don't think he believes I'm really pregnant. After all, we just had a baby three months ago. But like I said, I am positive I'm pregnant at this point. I have the nausea, food aversions, sensitive sense of smell, headaches, crampy feelings, more frequent need to pee, and more hungry (craving my usual prego fare-- hamburgers, tomatoes, and anything dairy!) Oh, and SO T-I-R-E-D and lethargic. Yawn . . .

I'm so excited!!! :carrot :banana

Oh, for m/s I love kombucha, especially the gingerade kind. Also eating lots of eggs keeps my energy up and seems to help with the m/s too. I've had 6 eggs today! :o Also lots of raw milk, which I'm craving like crazy, but it tastes different now. :sick

Ugh. :dizzy:

The thing that gets me is when I went looking for a nice holiday nursing top, and the clerk told me they didn't have the demand for nice nursing tops. I just kind of blinked at her, wishing I would have said, "Well if your company stopped selling out their customers to formula companies, MAYBE you'd have a demand for nice nursing tops!"

Yes, I can finally join a DD club. We had been TTC #2 for almost 2 years.

Name: Jenn
Relationship status: married to DH for 5.5 years
Children/Pregnancies: this is #2
Due date: Oct 13
Birth plans: mw, need to call them tomorrow and hope that they're not full already

I had my first BFP test two days before I was due for AF. I just had a feeling, I'm sure some of you know that feeling. My excitement was unbelievable and I told DH right away after I rushed him off of the phone. He kind of knew what I was up to when I tried to sneak into the bathroom. I took some pictures of the positive test and emailed them to two of my friends.

My DD just finished nursing a week before I found out I was pregnant. It was 2 days before her third bday when she last had a sip. My breasts didn't even get full when she stopped. I'm not sure if they feel any different yet. Maybe I'll ask DH to look at them, he'll prob have a better idea if they're fuller :lol .

Last night I had another positive test. :bouncy We haven't told DD yet, but it seems like she already knows because she's been talking about the baby. Have any of your children known before you've told them?

I have just not felt pregnant like one of the other posters said. With my first pregnancy I was very sick all the first trimester, breast sore, and sleepy. Now even though I have a nursing 2yr old I just don't feel pregnant so I took another test tonight and got another BFP :) FYI the dollar store has $1 pregnancy test that can be trusted!

Jennbee, YES. My 3 year-old daughter started talking about her little sister about 6 weeks before we were pregnant. (She only has a little brother, and has NEVER talked about her younger sister.) Then about a week ago we are in the car and she starts babbling, and I am not sure what she is talking about. She is saying, "Baby, Mommy, Mommy, Baby, Mommy's Baby, Baby Mommy, and then in perfect english she says, Mommy, do you have a baby in your tummy?" :dizzy: We had not been talking about it at all, and my husband and I have been especially careful to not say anything about it in front of her. Again, I say, huh?! :dizzy:

We are still holding off a little while longer to confirm her suspicions. :duck: We are also holding off telling any of our family or friends for 6 more weeks. It is killing me. I am six weeks pregnant, and I am due October 3rd. PLEASE LET ME YELL IT FROM THE ROOF TOPS. Okay, I am done now.

Oh, and Jennbee, when is your daughter's third birthday? Mine turned 3 on Jan. 28th. :)

well I'm here. this isnt what I was actually intending... this wasnt planned for me at all.

Name: Sadie
Relationship status: divorced, recently ended a 3 yr relationship and started a new, promising relationship..a month and a half ago:dizzy:
Children/Pregnancies: this will be my 3rd child
Due date: eh, the first week of oct probably
Birth plans: another UBAC. I enjoy being my own midwife.

my boyfriend is in the air force, and hes just been deployed for 6 months, and we still have 5 to go. he doesnt know about this yet. I just cant bring myself to write it to him in an email. Im going to write to him, and ask him to call me, tomorrow. Im not too anxious about his reaction.. I know hes a good man, or I wouldnt be with him. Im just scared about all the details we've never had any reason to discuss, so early in a relationship. and Im scared because Ive never lived alone, etc while pregnant. Im 5 wks but for some reason I dont get a pos on a pee test right away. That happened with my 2nd pg as well. I got a faint line this afternoon so I expect a stronger one in the morning.

so, hi everybody.
